Bringing your own bedding?

What can i get from sheets? Iit isn't that I am so worried about catching something from them - it is more that it disgusts me when I find something on them. I have traveled the world, and I have seen my share of hairs, period stains, pee stains, etc on hotel sheets. I will not, will not, touch a hotel comforter, period. I have no desire to sleep on bedding like that - add to that I am very picky about my sheet comfort level (I too only sleep on 600 and above count sheets) I would rather bring my own linens. Nothing is worse than coming back to a hotel after a day of moving about, to pull the comforter back to a big old stain in the middle of the sheet.

For those that answered my very basic questions, thank you.

For the rest of you - Thanks for all the other opinions I didn't ask for.

I don't do this (yet!), but I am a hotel snob and I get really queasy thinking about hotel linens. It also seems to get worse as I get older. I don't have room to bring my own linens, but I don't think you're crazy for doing it. Not at all.:sad2:

grlygrl13,

I have hair phobia. Even my own family's hair on the bathroom counter icks me out. Thankfully, either our room & bedding were spotless at our WDW resort, or I was just so deliriously giddy to be there that I didn't notice anything.

And sure there are germs and gross stuff I don't even want to think about all over WDW, but it's like everyday life...home is your "safe" place. When you come home at night you want your bed to be the one place you know is clean and you can sleep comfortably.

I haven't brought my own bedding on a trip, but I think about it every time. Ultimately, I don't think the hassle is worth it (I've already got 3 kids to deal with so I'm busy enough!). I do second bringing sheets that stand out from the resort ones.

And I found the beds VERY comfortable (POFQ). Helps when you're so dog tired every nite! From my understanding, WDW is good about replacing beds often enough and they don't skimp so you probably shouldn't have a problem.

Whatever you decide, have a great trip and sleep well! :goodvibes

For those people who don't understand the sheet thing, let me tell you my story. When DH and I were dating, I lived in Trinidad for three weeks. Let me tell you that some of the stuff I saw in the third world I will never forget, such as no toilet paper in the bathrooms, unclean restaurant tables, dirt and filth in residences. So, because of that, I always travel prepared, even to the finest Disney resorts. I bring my own pillow, chuck the hotel comforter, bring my own blankets, check for bed bugs (always), wipe down everything with Clorox wipes, carry Purrell wipes, personal hygiene wipes and anti-bacterial foam. You can never be too prepared. Trust me on this. Yes, the parks are dirty and it creeps me out. That's why there's Purrell. :)

So what your saying is that you spend the first couple of hours on vacation doing cleaning. I go on vacation to get away from cleaning. And you really can not compare third world contries to Disney.

Why bash the OP because she wants to bring her own linens? There isn't a single one of us that doesn't have our own little quirks. Germs are one of hers. If it adds to the comfort and enjoyment of her vacation of have her own linens, why judge her for that? :confused3

Personally it doesn't bother me, the sheets will definately be clean. Bedspreads, on the other hand, are not cleaned frequently at ANY hotel unless there is something really visible on them. That's common practice. So yes, hotel comforters can be full of someone else's slobber, stains, germs and whatever else you can think that you might find on a bed. I just try not to think about it and we pull our comforters down so we aren't sitting or sleeping directly on them. And yes, any mattress, even the one at home is full of little critters that you can't see. This bugs (pun intended) some people more than others. Nothing wrong with that. If it doesn't freak some of us out, well there's nothing wrong with that either. :)

OP - you shouldn't have any issues with housekeeping, guest linens aren't washed every day (part of Disney's conservation program) - I would just leave a note where mousekeeping can see it that you are using your own linens. Fold up Disney's comforters and maybe store them in the closet area. I wouldn't recommend bringing white linens just to be safe. We've brought our own pillows before (for the comfort factor) and never had a problem. :)

We bring our own fitted sheets each time. I can't speak for any other resorts, but OKW uses flat sheets instead of fitted sheets, which immediately bunch up any time you roll over. They're just not big enough to 'tuck in' properly, so by the time morning comes the bottom sheet is bunched up somewhere in the middle of the bed (dh tosses and turns all night). Also, because we're DVC members, there is limited housekeeping so I have no intention of fixing those horrible flat sheets everytime. It's just easier to bring my own :)

Me too! I hate that they use flat sheets instead of fitted. I can't stand touching the mattress (at home or resort) so I bring my own fitted sheet. My DH is a squirmy sleeper and never keeps those flat sheets on...UGH:scared1:

We bring Everything...blankets, sheets, pillows. But will stop bringing our pillows because I have now read that that is a sure fire way to bring bedbugs back to your house, unless you can wash your pillows. We will now buy cheap pillows on our trip to walmart and trash them when we leave. My mama and I have a phobia about hotel beds.

I wipe everything down with clorox wipes and check for bedbugs everywhere we go. It doesn't take 3 hours, it takes me maybe 10 minutes tops.

I don't bring my own bedding, only because I would feel like I have to throw it out and not bring it home for fear of transporting something back with me.

what I usually do is ask housekeeping for a clean of sheets, and enough pillowcases to double on each pillow, i do this at home too.........put them on the bed to be sure they are clean then I tell them we don't need the sheets changed for the duration of our stay, and I make the beds myself in the am to be sure they don't forget.
they didn't seem to mind one bit, it was one less thing they had to do in our room :)
oh and the comforters come off as soon as we get there and they stay off the beds

In addition to disinfecting wipes, I always bring an aerosol can of Lysol and spray everything down as soon as we step foot in our room (any hotel room...not just Disney!) Also, take the comforters/bedspreads off and throw them in the corner for the duration of our stay (these are not washed after every guest!) My Mom was also fanatic about us keeping shoes on in the room (once found a broken glass under a bed! ) I have brought my own sheets and quilt but considering something else...I know I saw a silk sleeping bag (ie light weight, easy to pack, essentially a barrier between you and the bed?) that was marketed to business people...maybe even saw it in the AirMall catelog...anyone know what I am talking about?!?!? :confused3

Not 'picking on' this poster, merely quoting just one of the several similarly-themed posts... We should all be aware that overuse of anti-bacterial products, instead of eliminating bacteria, germs, etc., tends to cause them to mutate with resistant characteristics: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/eid/vol7no3_supp/levy.htm

I know what you are talking about, but I don't know the name. Howie Mandel is a huge germaphobe and he was talking about it. I think the one he has totally incases you in a sleeping bag type thing.

I worry about germs too, but I'm more concerned about bringing little critters (i.e. bed bugs!) home with me! That's why I never bring my own sheets, but I do wonder if it would be possible to receive a new comforter upon arrival? Does anyone know if housekeeping will accomodate this request?

I have seen the comforters in the plastic bags outside of the room when mousekeeping is cleaning when someone was checking out. But just in case, we do not use them. We roll them down and place them on the floor. We also take of sheets on and off everyday of our stay.

would mouskeeping bring me extra blankets if i ask for them? Do the deluxe resorts use the same sheets as the mod&values? I was thinking of bringing my own fitted sheet not really for the germ issue but because Im tall and every time I go to hotels the bottom sheet is always off at the bottom of the bed.

They are called Sleep Sheets/Sleep Sacks, and I used mine when hosteling in Ireland and the UK. It's the best way to still utilize the bedding provided, while providing a more sanitary barrier between you and the begging in question.

You can make your own (my sister made mine for me!)
http://www.guideforeurope.com/sleepsheet.html

They can also be purchased in various fabrics, including silk for those who are a little more sensitive. You could easily make them out of sheets of your chosen thread count.

My DH travels 2 times per month, year round and has never, ever caught anything or seen a bed bug and he's stayed in hotels all over the world over the last 30 years. I travel several times a year and same thing, no issue. I think there is too much overreaction to things that will not make you sick. Unless you suck on the sheets, you are not going to catch anything from them. Bed bugs can happen anywhere and are in the mattress so sheets won't make a hill of beans of difference. Also, you are exposed to millions of germs on a daily basis in your normal day to day life, and not any more on vacation, so don't panic. Bed bugs can also travel from beds to anything you travel with, including all of your clothes.

i nly bring my on sheets dbut my reason is very simple.....i have extremely sensitive skin and i will break out after touching soemthing washed in a detergant that i am allergic to so i buy sheets in bulk when they are on sale (cheap sheets...nothing expensive, im not picky) and i bring them when we go to any hotel (we travel like 6 times a yr) adn than i just get rid of them before we leave.....if my skin wasnt so sensitive, i wouldnt do that but im not going to be miserable for th etrip b/c i am allergic to the sheets:lmao:

It may be noted that carrying sheets, blankets and pillows when traveling by air could result in packing more, meaning you bring more suitcases. The more suitcases you bring, the more you will be charged for them. One major airline (American) is currently going to a policy where they charge for all checked luggage.

We are DVC members and I, too, am considering bringing a fitted sheet for our next trip. I do have a couple questions tho' that maybe someone can help me with. 1) Are the blankets cleaned for every guest? 2) What do I look for when checking for bed bugs? and 3) Would putting my sheet in a zip-lock bag to transport home protect my other items from bed bugs? Hope these questions don't seem too silly but I really would like to know. Thanks much and I'm all ears. :listen:
