Hi,
I was wonderng how everyone manages jet lag?

I have found that Melatonin works for me. Also, I have no problem sleeping on planes. The time difference from Cali. to Dublin then France/Spain is huge!! And, I don't want to miss anything - however, I am no longer a "spring chicken" and don't do well w/sleep deprivation. (oh, I fondly remember the late nights & still be up and at work early - or maybe not!!) :rotfl2:
Just wondering if anyone has some tips to ease the lag.

When we traveled to Germany we took benadryl to sleep on the plane and then stayed up till normal bed time for Europe. Amazingly we were tired, but not exhausted. I plan to do the same thing this time. I think DH is gonna take a lunesta when we board in Philly.

The pouches are supposed to be on the way. They may be here as early as tomorrow. I will post when they come and hopefully can add to your lanyard pkg. He told me the cost was .55 each. Sorry I do not know more.

With my allergy meds - benadryl has no affect for me re sleeping. What is "lunesta"?
Oh I do agree - going immediately to current time is essential.
What's important is that we're ready to enjoy every minute of our adventure - right?????

Hi everyone

We are off to Disney tomorrow a.m. - likely very early.... - Dh wants to drive 16 hours the first day. The kids just want to GET THERE. and I want to read my book - the only time I ever have to read seems to be when we are on Vacation.

So I will check back in when I return around July 30, 2007. If you are doing any dinners, brunches, tea's or meets that I am not already signed up for , count me inn.

6 weeks to go .... yippee

I travel overseas, for some period of time, 10 out of 12 months a year. The way I learned to 'Get Over It,' knowing that eastbound is hardest, is to have my meal on the plane when they serve it (1-2 hours after takeoff) and sleep as much as possible. Flight attendants bring around a breaksfast in the morning (usually an hour before landing) and you can wake up then to get yourself moving. Still groggy, resist the urge to sleep once on the ground. Walk around, window shop, pepople watch ... something. Ensure you stay awake until a regular bedtime hour (2000 or 2100) at the local time. THEN go to sleep. You will wake up in the morning REFRESHED and on-time.

I am STILL trying to convince my family that this works. I went with a friend to Rome in May and, dubious as she was at my advice, she did it and we had a FANTASTIC long weekend without jet lag!

What works for me is to as soon as I get on the plane set my watch to whatever time it is in the timezone I'm travelling to, and then try and stick as closely as I can to whateverr I should be doing in that timezone. Sleep when you should be sleeping, eat when you should be eating etc, and keep that up. Don't give in to the temptation to just get to your hotel and crash. Stay up until it's the right time to go to bed and then crash!

Thanks - I put that on my "reminders" list.

POUCH UPDATE

They arrived today. If you want pouches, please add .55 for each pouch to your order. I think I can send them for no additional cost in shipping. They are pretty light.

If you want to PM me, I will prepackage them with your lanyards.:thumbsup2

This is usually what I do as well. If I am really exhausted I will take a short nap in the afternoon after I arrive but will force myself to get up for dinner. If i don't nap, sometimes i go to bed as early as 1800 or 1900 hrs and will sleep to early morning. Our flight gets into barcelona around noon so I figure that by the time we get check in and get settled in our room it will be 2:30 or 3. We can do a rest and force ourselves to early dinner. Then we will go to bed early as we have an early excursion.

I am not sailing with you, but I have a friend who will be.

I am doing the research for her, but will try to get her to join your thread. There is so much info here it will take me days to read it all...but it is great info.

This will be her 17 Disney Cruise, but this time without her husband. He passed away earlier this year. This was one of their dream trips so she is going to do it in his honor.

I am making door signs for her and I already made her "hats" to put on the Mickey Ears for her cabin number. She is on Deck 2.

Off to read some more.

Hello Michelle - you can tell your friend that she is more than welcome to join us if she wants. I am one of those ladies traveling alone and w/o a spouse. I convinced a fellow DISser to join me and so we are winging it alone but with friends. Tell her she's a brave woman - and good for her! What an awesome testimony to her love for her spouse. Anyway, if she feels like it - we are pretty mellow - so if she would like to speak with me or my travel buddy - she can pm me if she'd like.

Hi Bev, so far nothing has been planned. our mini meet might just be at the gate before the flight.

ellen

There's going to be quite a few of us at this gate waiting for that Aer Lingus Friday 17th flight to Barcelona via Dublin.
I think it may be a good idea to wear our lanyards or something so at least we can recognize each other. It'll be a bit embarassing to figure out on the ship that you'd sat next to a fellow Diser for almost half a day without knowing

I have some more tips especially for those needing to travel light overseas for the Med cruise.
Child's soft toy can double as a pillow or neck cushion. Most airline personel won't have the heart to count this as an extra piece of carry on especially when your kid is holding it dressed up in their arms. If necessary it can be squeezed into a backpack.
Comfortable flip flops can be worn at the beach, standard daywear, spa, public showers and at the end of the night for those tired feet after wearing heels for dinner.
Flannel Lounge wear can be used for the gym, and as a coverall for swim suits for the beach, pool, spa.
Wear your warm sweater or wrap it around your waist while boarding the plane, it will also double as a pillow or blanket for the flight and leave more room in your luggage for something else.
Pack some gum or mints for fresh breath in the morning, since we can't take any mouthwash or toothpaste in carryons - Yes they will confiscate it (in Dublin) unless you have a direct flight from the US to BCN.

I didn't know that, lucky for us our flight is direct to BCN from Atlanta.

The Listerine dissovable breath strips are not liquid or paste! And they work great.

Thanks for all the tips - I cannot find my old check list so I'm starting from scratch & relying on my memory! LOL
