Bringing Food In?

I am a WDW vet and this will be my first experience at DL. We're hoping to eat one meal at DL a day only and bring the rest of our snacks and meals. I haven't found anything stating the policies on bringing food in being similar to WDW...

can we bring food in?

I don't know if there is a policy or not at DL.

But I have had brougt in food on every trip I have gone and never have had anybody say a word about it.

Yes, you can bring food in. However, you cannot bring in food you are going to put together in the park, as that will get you directed to the picnic area.

Ex: You can bring in a BLT sandwich. However, you cannot bring in a loaf of bread, a bag of cooked bacon, a head of lettuce, and a couple of tomatoes along with mayo, ketchup, and mustard.

Last time we went we took a backpack with snacks and lunches in with us everyday and no one ever said we couldn't. That was a year ago though, so don't know if it changed.

DH and I have had a rough couple months and we're needing some Disney magic to finish the year off well and start the new one in a magical way But money is tight! So pbj & cheeze-its it is!

As noted before, only prepared foods are allowed. Also, no glass containers.

I'm pretty sure there's an official ruling...Hrm. Looks like they've tightened the official rules. Not cool.

Can I bring food into Disneyland Park or Disney's California Adventure Park?

With the exception of food items for Guests with specific dietary restrictions, food or beverage items are not permitted into either of the Disneyland Resort theme parks.

That's so restrictive that I'm gonna go ahead and suggest civil disobedience if they give you trouble. Tell them you're allergic to everything except for the specially prepared food you've brought with you. If they ask for a note from your doctor, cry.

If all else fails, you can rent a locker for the cost of about one CS meal and stash your food there.

Does anybody know if the rule is actually enforced? When I researched WDW last year, people said that had previously been their stance as well, but that it wasn't enforced. They had changed their policy to allow food - so we brought in sandwiches, chips and even canned soda every day there... not sure if we could do the same here for sammies and chips, sure would save some $$...

From what I've read and experienced on our trips, it is not enforced. They mainly are just checking to be sure you don't have any glass containers, and are not bringing in, as said above, an entire loaf of bread, pound of turkey, jar of mayo, etc. If it's just small snacks, sandwiches, drinks in plastic/cans, etc. they are fine with it.

Once, while my dh and kids were holding our spots for the fireworks, I ran out to DTD and grabbed sandwiches from La Brea, and security let me through just fine. We ate them hanging out at the hub before the show started.

Mainly, when we ate snacks we brought in with us, we just made sure that we were not taking up valuable tables at the counter service places during busy times.

I'm curious about that too. When we went last year, we'd often buy a sandwich at Quizno's in the morning and take it into the park with us for lunch. The security folks clearly saw it, but none of them ever said anything other than "have a great day!"

So I wonder if the new wording signals a change of policy, or if they're still not enforcing it.

It's the general policy but it's not really enforced. They won't allow glass, they won't allow fixings for food but you can bring premade sandwiches and snacks. We even stopped once at Subway, grabbed 4 $5 footlongs and had half for lunch and half for dinner one day. We had water bottles that we just refilled in the parks and we had our own chips & cookies for snacks. It was not a problem at all.

I'd bet it will as Jtown noted it appears to be getting tighter.

Cooler restrictions appears tighter now too.

"•Coolers larger than 6-pack sized are not permitted into the theme parks."

I still find it more surprising that you had been able to bring food in. Think of a place that serves food that you can bring your own food into. It's very limited.

I have a local resturant that will allow you to bring food in for your kids.

I think Disney has done a smart move here. They have a rule to stand on if there is an issuse such as whole loaf of bread and fixins. And they "allow" snacks. To me its the best of both worlds. Disney is making money on the parks and loosing some n food. If they allowed no food at all then they loose both food and tickets.

I am in the every 4 year crowd and I stay offsite and only eat 1 meal in the park. And I will say alot of places outside the park are cheaper than the park but are higher than at home.

I actually bring food to every restaurant we go to for my DS who can't eat anything off the menu. None of the servers have ever told me I couldn't, of course, i have a valid reason, but no one has questioned it. I'm sure places are more lenient with kids though.

.. just like dreams said you can bring food in. .but you can’t bring in items to prepare a sandwich .. you will have to do that in the picnic area!

The rule is enforced.. despite what dreams said. I have seen on occasions at the bag check that people with coolers, the small ones that can fit in a locker, have been turned away and or directed to eat it at the picnic area before coming into the esplanade!
