My guide told me that the walkway between CR and BLT will have a special keycard access that allows ONLY DVC members through. That means that regular resort guests will not be allowed to use any of the amenities at BLT--pool, observation lounge, etc. I thought that was interesting--anybody else hear that?

With the size of the resort, it seems to me that door will always be swung open anyway. What's the point of card keying it?

By 'DVC members' I assume your guide meant anyone currently staying in a villa at BLT. There are many folk who rent villas through both Disney as well as owners who aren't members.

Don't quote me on the keycard part. The message was that non-members would not be allowed into BLT one way or another to use the amenities...I got the impression it would be done somehow enroute via the walkway.

yeah that doesnt make any sense. even if the bridge were closed could you just walk over to the pool from the outside? couldnt you still access the tower too from its own outside entrance??

My guide gave us the skinny concerning the lounge. He said it will be open to members owning at BLT and you have to be staying there at that time to use it. So, if you're a DVC member staying at the Boardwalk, you can't make use of the lounge, even if you own at BLT. I guess that's one way to control the use and space. He also said they'll pipe the Wishes music in. The rules may change of course, but that's what he said as of Saturday.

I was also given the impression that pool was for member guests only too, not just the lounge. My guide kept using the word "members" so I was assuming she meant members staying on the property and guests renting or using points and staying at BLT as well.

THis would be interesting and wonder if you'll be allowed to take a guest or two with you. They will have to find someway to control the crowd and usage (or abuses).

At SAB you need a wristband to use the pool. At other Disney locations (HHI beach house pool comes to mind), you enter through a locked gate using your room key.

I find it interesting that non DVCers from other boards are speculating that they will be able to use the new BLT pool and lounge if they are guests at Contemporary resort. The thinking is that if you are staying at a particular resort and these things are amentities to that resort-then these ammentities are open to all guests. Did I say that right?

It made me wonder if this is part of the thinking with naming the building BLT as opposed to Villas at Contempary Resort. It differenciates the DVC portion.

The rules may or may not be set up to allow CR guests to use (not use) the BLT amenities. But, in practice, many of them will---if they have a reason to. Given Disney's notoriously spotty ability to enforce such rules, it almost doesn't matter what the "rules say."

I suspect that's why the CR's pool area is slated for a significant upgrade. Make the amenities more equal to one another, and remove most of the reason for anyone in CR to go to BLT. Likewise the pools at Ft. Wilderness---removing much of the incentive for folks there to walk over to WL/VWL.

And I'm sure people will find ways around and manage to get in.....then we'll start a new thread complaining about those people! :rotfl:

I would think could let guests staying in the regular Tower building or Garden Wings use the bridge since they are staying there, because what if they want to look around and etc.

As for the Bay Lake Tower pool a DVC Cast Member at the Contemporary told me it would be just like the villas pool in the DVC section at the Wilderness Lodge where both set of guests can use it, because it's an amenity of the Resort itself. So that includes guests staying at the Contemporary in both sections and Bay Lake Tower.

Our guide stated that there would be key access to the walkway for BLT guests, and that the pool would be limited to BLT guests only.

Oh man...now they're taking away lounge hopping privileges too!

We were told that the lobby is at the Contemporary and that Members would check in there.

I thought I saw a drawing of a lobby area. Surely there is a door there to enter from the parking lot or if you walked from MK. You wouldn't have to go all the way up to the bridge to enter. They could put a key reader there too but most hotels who do that leave it unlocked during the day. It isn't Fort Knox ;) . BWV has a key reader on the door by the pool but it's always open.

We were also told by our guide that there would be no pool hopping for CR resort people to BLT. That pool is being specifically built for BLT/DVC people.

As for the walkway, it would be nice if they restricted access. I'm all for using the ammenities strictly at the place you choose to stay....wherever that may be.

Now.....enforcing is a whole 'nother thing!

Dh just got off the phone w/our guide about something on our contract, and I had him ask her about the pool. She took out their legal FAQ and read to him that the pool is strictly for BLT guests and CR guests will not be able to use it.

She said the majority of the DVC people over at the CR aren't regular DVC agents but more like aides, and are unfortunately giving out some incorrect info that doesn't always reflect the legal specs on BLT.

It is important to clarify in the documents because if it's not shared then BLT dues will be paying 100% for its operation.

I think CR has to spruce up/update/re-vamp the main resort pool. It would probably solve a lot of headaches in the end. If there was a great pool on the resort side there would be no reason to go to BLT.
