Why is this? What do the Kiwis have that Oz doesn't or the other way around.

It's about the relationship Kiwis and Aussies have. For the Kiwis, Australia is a very important trading partner and regional neighbour. We are in the top 3 trading partners for them. For Australians, New Zealand is nice and all that but in the pecking order of importance, NZ doesn't figure highly.

So, NZ tend to want us to treat them the way we would America, China, Japan....but we tend to treat them like a little minnow in a small pond.

Shame really...but that's politics!

Not yet...but then the day is still early :teeth:

It's Sunday morning. With the nana nap I had yesterday and last night's sleep, I'm actually feeling pretty rested.

How's Fran doing?

She's improving, she doesn't hurt quite so much, but I've got to get her not to take so much of the Morphine, all she can do is sleep. However, she says she needs to keep up the Morphine so that she can get to the potty!

:sad1:everyone went away!

I had to take the cleaning lady home, and one of the gals on the WFD thread inspired me to make crescent dogs for dinner, so I went to the most expensive market in town because I wanted frozen creamed spinach (only place that sells it), not the kind I have to make. Almost $30 for my dinner and dessert! :scared1: And it's freakin hot dogs! However all they had were the Angus beef Ball Parks.

I have some dogs and buns sitting and waiting. DS likes them, I really don't. It's a quick thing to cook on the grill though. I'm just hoping it doesn't snow first.

I'm getting ready to disappear again for a while. Going to take a nice bath and a nap.

The infusion didn't go so good this morning. I had to call the nurse to come over and get it going. Hopefully I won't have that problem tonight.

Is this serious or a joke?

You know Queenie....it's only Sydney and nothing else for her in Australia. ;)

Tasmania is DEFINITELY part of Australia for me. In fact, it's as old as or even older than Sydney. It's where the harden convicts went.

 Enjoy your rest.

I might not catch you later. I'm heading out to Trunk and Treat with the American Women's Association today. And it's doing rain showers outside. It's got about 5 hours to blow over.

Good luck tonight. Enjoy your bath.

Tasmania is also has a geologic connection. It's on the same continent, there is no deep ocean between the two.

Hope it stays dry. Out of curiosity will DS be one of the older kids there?

I've seen more of Australia than most Australians. More of the USA than most Americans too probably.

I am very Australian and very patriotic. Part of that though is mocking each other. Taswegians are different to mainland Australians. People from the northern territory are different to Sydneysiders. That is actual fact. So we pick up on those differences and mock each other.
That is what being Aussie is all about.

Part of what bonded DBF and I is we are very sarcastic. Dry sacasm. It is difficult in the written form. Especially when throwing small barbs.

There's differences between different US states. Legally more than between our Aussie states and territories I believe. But culturally we have different outlooks under an 'Aussie umbrella' of mocking each other.

As for NZ. Australia doesn't need it. They are reliant on us.

I'm curious what you mean with this statement...

It is my impression that the different states that create the United States have more differences.
For example state laws in Washington State vary from those in Florida. Louisiana to Massachusetts.
The use of Death Penalty in some states vs others.

In Australia. There is less variance at least perceived by me.
"Popular" decisions are deployed across the country more 'easily' than it seems it would in the US.

I looked at the forecast for Monday. Looks to be a cold, wet and snowy Halloween night.

You make it sound like Oz isn't free to govern itself.

Mocking? Sarcastic? Us Aussies? No...can't say I've noticed.

Yes...for a geographically large continent, there are surprisingly less differences between Aussie states and territories than what you would find across the US.

Except for Tasmania, where everyone is practically a cousin to each other....and Queensland, where they just in-breed them a little strange there.

Take Queenie and myself...we're both proudly Aussie and very patriotic (But I would imagine no less so that the average American for your home country). And although we live in different states, aside from minor differences, our legal, health, school, political systems are all pretty much run along the same lines.

And Queenie - let's leave NZ alone. There's really no point given that there are no Kiwi's following this thread to start World War 3. You and I are almost in violent agreement here; 'cept that I think its another great country.

I aint taking sides, I havent been to either side. Hmm...maybe a day in the bush hanging with the kangaroos might be great fun. Nothing political from them.:rolleyes1
