It arrived today and the only way it will turn on is if I hold the battery cover down:(
How aggrevating!

Thats wierd- Dumb question but you are sliding it up until it clicks shut right?

Yeah, its closed. I opened and closed it a few times to make sure.
I kept trying to turn it on, figured the batteries maybe had lost their charge so I changed them. Still wouldn't go on. Then I noticed when I tried to slide the cover back off it lit up. So now when I press down the cover and hold it- the flash turns on. Man! Looks like I gotta send it back already! Didn't even get to play:(

Pretty strange- maybe it just does not like your rechargables? Have you tried some regular AA's in it to see what happens?

Actually- I just tried some lithiums. It seems to be staying on better but when I first put them in I had to press on the cover to get it to stay on. I hope this one isn't going to be choosy about the batteries!
So far, tho it is staying on. Hmmm. Now what to do? I'd hate to have a flash thats going to refuse some types of batteries.

I would still send it back. I have used every type of AA in my 600 and my 800 with no problems. Seems like your contacts are not properly aligned. Better to send it back now then have it fail when you really need it.
Where did you get it from?

I agree- send it back. Murphys Law says it will fail at the exact worst possible time.

Please let us know how Beach Camera handles the return and how long it takes.

Thanks!:thumbsup2

I buy a lot from Beach Camera- I returned some stuff to them for a refund a month or so ago and no questions asked.

To be honest I haven't sent it back yet. I'm bad at getting sending things back and also I need it for DD's high school graduation next week and I'm afraid the new one wn't get here in time. I know I really should send it back because with my luck it will fail as soon as the 1 year warranty is up. I did contact beachcamera, they said no problem to return it. The flash has been working fine since, tho. Battery cover slides into place and it powers up no problem, no pressing:confused3

Order a new one- when it gets there return the defective one for a refund.

I have a SB600 and its picky about the batteries that it will accept. I have one set of rechargable that was acting like you said, when I got measured it against some others that did work I noticed that they were just a tad shorter... that may be your problem too.... I've also found that the SB600 like the more powerful rechargables, 2650 mAh work fine but when I used some weaker 1900mAh batteries the flash drained them faster than poop through a goose.

take a look in the battery compartent and see if there are springs down there. See if you can get a pair of tweezers in there and pull it up a little, not to much though. that may help till you get te replacemnt
