BOULDER RIDGE VILLAS & COPPER CREEK VILLAS & CABINS: Wilderness Lodge DVC Expansion Thread

Unless you want Copper Creek and the ability to books 11 months out I would seriously consider the secondary market. While prices are high right now, $80-$90's a point, it will still be better then The mid 100's price from Disney.
We are very interested in Copper Creek and we always plan our trips over a year out so the 11 month window is perfect for us. Plus I'd like to get in on an entire term of a contract rather than buying in halfway thru like it would be going resale. I just wonder when they may have a model room open to show on the DVC tour. Don't really want to tour the Poly in February when we don't want to buy there.

Yes, if you want full term contract, the wait will likely be worth the wait. . .though a very costly one. As for the tour, we had no interest in PVB, either, but we did want to see how they looked, and we got three FPs each (good on any ride at any time) just for strolling through the bungalow. ;)

Does anyone have any thoughts on what size rooms they are converting to in the Lodge? I stayed at the Poly before they converted the building to DVC and personally the new room configuration seems silly to me. Why would I want only one bed and one pull out, but two bathrooms? We are only a family of three but I would not like having to pull out a couch every night. I am guessing they will add some grand villas because the VWL only go up to a two bedroom unit? I wonder if it will be an all new design in some configuration? I have always felt the WL was a hidden gem in the Deluxe category.... and now it seems Disney has figured this out too.

Nothing official yet, but if I had to guess I would bet the hotel portion will be a mix of studio, 1, and 2 bedrooms. The cabins will be the "grand villas".

I would also bet that studios will have the typical one bed with pull out couch. The only studios in the DVC system that have 2 real beds are at OKW.

I would guess the studios will also have the murphy bed. In the refurbs, they've given them to BCV and BWV. WLV already has them. Poly has them. VGF has them.

I think BLT won't get them (nowhere to put them, those are tiny studios), and AKV aren't getting them in this refurb but hard to predict the future. AKV Value and Club won't ever get them, but hard to say about Kidani. Saratoga also has "where to put them" issues.

Sorry if these questions have been answered before but:

Are portions of the main Wilderness Lodge building being turned into DVC or is the CCVC a completely new building?
Are the Wilderness Lodge rooms get a rehab?

The south wing rooms are closed and expected to be converted to DVC. No-on knows 100% but it is very likely.

Thank you for posting the link to the news about the renaming of VWL, @mrsap! Here is also the announcement from the DIS:

To help enhance the storytelling at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, the Disney Vacation Villas will receive a new name. Gone are the old days of The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Now, this DVC property shall be known as Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, according to the DVC Member website. Walt Disney Imagineers believe the name change will help to give the resort a more “distinctive identity” and add to the story of the entire community. The name change will also help tie into the re-imagined and soon to be renamed Hidden Springs Pool, as well as the upcoming Copper Creek Villas & Cabins, which are currently being constructed.

DH and I just decided to switch from POR to WL. He has missed WL so much. I know it's not going to be the place we remember from past trips but I think in some ways we will like it having fewer guests around. I figure it's only 3 nights, we can bare it for 3 nights. DH is happy

I think you'll still find it a very lovely resort despite some minor construction inconveniences. The overall feel of the Lodge/Villas remains mostly intact: the music, the main lobby, the fireplaces, the lanterns, the boats, the restaurants. If you wind up lake side, the view is quite excellent, albeit with major construction going on.

No problem! Happy to help! I'm lurking hoping to get some better news, but until then, our friends we do Disney with refuse to stay at WL during the construction- so it will be our first time staying AKL CL. I'll miss it so much, but hopefully we'll be back there next November!! Enjoy your trips!

@WDWKOOK first of all thanks for providing this central location for all the news about the new development. I just wanted to let you know that you have the name slightly wrong in the new title: It is CC Villas & Cabins, not the other way around. :goodvibes

Not that this requires a response.... we haven't been home to our beloved VWL (and will always be VWL to us) since 10/15. We are headed home.... hopefully May 2017. We are hoping that a good majority of the work will be done. My husband, pessimist that he is already wants to bail on DVC. Me, we are retiring in 2019, I don't want to make a decision until 2020, at the very least. NH is heaven on earth for us. We may never want to leave. However, God willing, I will have Grandbabies that need some WDW from their Granny and Grandad. Just sayin'

Thank you for your post, @Flossbolna!

There's conflicting information out on the good ol' interwebs as to the actual name. I defaulted to the name I found used the most at the time I posted the news, but that certainly doesn't mean I don't need to change it. The news blurb that I posted on Sunday is from the DIS and they are calling it Copper Creek Cabins and Villas. But, I actually think that's probably incorrect as I look again at the sources that are using Villas and Cabins. I can't find any official documents with the new names on them. If anyone knows of any, please post about them. All recent permitting still calls it "Wilderness Rehab."

I'm going to wait until I get some comments here on the matter and then I'm most likely going to change it to Villas and Cabins. Thanks again for bringing this up.

These are some of the sources and what they are calling it:

wdwmagic.com - Copper Creek Villas and Cabins

Orlando Sentinel - Copper Creek Villas and Cabins

thedisneyblog.com - Copper Creek Villas and Cabins

dvcnews.com - Copper Creek Cabins and Villas

wdwinfo.com - Copper Creek Cabins and Villas

wdwnt.com - Copper Creek Cabins and Villas

VWL Facebook group changed their name to - Copper Creek Cabins and Villas

Welcome home! It's always a good thing when DHs are happy and as you said, it's a short trip. The transportation should be good no matter what, and that's one advantage over POR.

Well, at least you're staying at a resort designed by the same architect and WL will be there for another vacation. And, while there are fewer amenities available at WL and ongoing construction, there are also fewer guests, which has its own advantages. Just something to keep in mind.

The work is supposed to be completed around April 2017 so that's looking good for your plans. And, congratulations on your upcoming retirement! That holds great possibilities of even more trips to WDW;)

Actually, the blurb you posted called it villas & cabins:

(I added the new emphasis.) That's why I posted about it. :goodvibes

And looking at the link now, it still says villas & cabins: http://www.wdwinfo.com/news-stories/walt-disney-world-news/wilderness-lodge-dvc-receives-new-name/

Also, dvcnews.com has it as villas & cabins now as well: http://www.dvcnews.com/index.php/re...ss-lodge-dvc-confirmed-existing-units-renamed
They even reference a press release, however, the press release seems not to be available to the general public. I was not able to find it.

wdwnt.com seems to not have posted anything since they originally posted on April 29 that the name will be CCC&V. They did not post anything at the end of last week, when that press release made its round.

So, in my opinion the case is quite clear: wdwnt.com put it out as a rumour, but got the villa and cabin part mixed up. Now there was an official statement by Disney and all the other sites picked that up.

On the DVC website they released information about the renaming of VWL at the same time, but don't mention the name of the new resort: https://dvcmember.disney.go.com/post/name-enhancement-enriches-storytelling-25629

Thanks. I was wondering if the cabins would be similar to the bungalows or a completely different design. I would guess somewhat different as they aren't over the water. As a family of just 3, a hotel room still appeals to us over a studio. I was hoping to do a big family trip in late 2017 to the WL. Now I wonder if holding off a year and trying to stay DVC would be a better idea. As of right now I figure it will be really popular, so we may just do the 2017 as planned. My sister turns 40 a few years after that, we could return for her bday.

In other news, a friend from high school is a designer/architect for a firm that has done restaurants at WDW and on DCL. He stayed at the WL in early spring, just as ground was breaking. I wonder if he is working on the new restaurant. :scratchin

I think there is a lot of grumbling about the Bungalows in terms of space. The actual number of physical beds is 2. Plus the pull downs and converting sofa. It is NOT a good fit for groups with more than 4 adults. I would hope that the new Cabins address some of the sleeping arrangement inadequacies form the Bungalow.
