Borrowing question???

This is the area that always confuses me.

Okay, we are cruising this year on DVC points. We have 220 points with a June use year. I am using year 2000 points and year 2001 points for that. I am also borrowing 193 points from 2002 for the cruise.

We would like to take a short trip in August 2002 next year for our daughters birthday.

My question is: I know I can use the remaining 27 points from 2002 for that. I will also be able to borrow some from 2003 for the August trip right?

Thanks so much!

Melinda:confused:

Don't know what I did, will try again. Wow, we are doing the same exact thing. We are cruising on 7/21 - family of 5 - two rooms). We own 200 points though and will have only 8 points left from the 2002 that we borrowed - we will have to bank these when available in april 2002 - does anyone know when the expiration date for these 8 pts is? (april use year). When 2002 comes around (need to decided soon) not sure if we will borrow from 2003 for 2002 vacation or just wait til 2003 points become available which means I think I will have 208 points for 2003 and I can plan this in 2002. Am I making sense? Don't know if I can wait that long. Well, I know how you feel, tough decision. Good Luck deciding. Anna :(

Those last 8 points are April 2002 points, right? You can use them from April 1, 2002 to March 31, 2003 (their regular use year) or bank them to use April 1, 2003 to March 31, 2004.

Thanks so much Debbie for letting me know when they expire. I have been wondering about that since I am new to all this and did not figure out the math. If I don't want to loose the 8 points, I should plan a WDW in 2002 for 2003 (we have never been able to go anywhere before July and those 8 points would expire in March of 2004) and have 208 points. This is one reason I wish I had a different user year, expiration date and banking option. We tend to vacation towards end of summer. I will need to write down on my calendar (Oct 92) to start calling and making my ressies for 8/03, I know it's far away, but I can plan and wait. Wow! Wishing I had more points. Thanks again Anna
:( Happy for cruise :( for waiting for WDW again.

I always find it a little easier to visualize when you put it into a chart format. For your June use year, your chart would look like this.:
<Table border><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Use</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Start</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>End</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Annual</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 COLSPAN=3><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Banking Deadlines</B></FONT></TD></TR><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Year</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Date</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Date</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Points</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:0%"><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>100%</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:0%"><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>50%</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:0%"><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>25%</B></FONT></TD></TR><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">2000</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">6/1/00</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">5/31/01</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">220</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">11/30/00</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">2/28/01</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">3/31/01</FONT></TD></TR><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">2001</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">6/1/01</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">5/31/02</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">220</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">11/30/01</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">2/28/02</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">3/31/02</FONT></TD></TR><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">2002</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">6/1/02</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">5/31/03</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">220</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">11/30/02</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">2/28/03</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">3/31/03</FONT></TD></TR><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">2003</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">6/1/03</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">5/31/04</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">220</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">11/30/03</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">2/29/04</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">3/31/04</FONT></TD></TR><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">2004</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">6/1/04</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">5/31/05</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">220</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">11/30/04</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">2/28/05</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">3/31/05</FONT></TD></TR></Table>
To use, pick a date you have in mind. In your case, pick August 2002. You see that date is in your 2002 use year. So for that reservation, you can use your 2002 points, bank 2001 points into 2002 and use them, or borrow 2003 points into 2002 and use them.

Note that if you picked May 2003, you would still have the exact same banking and borrowing as the above example as August 2002 and May 2003 are both in the same 2002 use year.

For Anna, with an April use year, your table would look like this:

<Table border><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Use</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Start</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>End</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Annual</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 COLSPAN=3><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Banking Deadlines</B></FONT></TD></TR><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Year</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Date</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Date</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>Points</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:0%"><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>100%</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:0%"><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>50%</B></FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:0%"><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>25%</B></FONT></TD></TR><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">2000</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">4/1/00</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">3/31/01</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">200</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">9/30/00</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">12/31/00</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">1/31/01</FONT></TD></TR><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">2001</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">4/1/01</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">3/31/02</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">200</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">9/30/01</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">12/31/01</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">1/31/02</FONT></TD></TR><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">2002</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">4/1/02</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">3/31/03</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">200</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">9/30/02</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">12/31/02</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">1/31/03</FONT></TD></TR><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">2003</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">4/1/03</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">3/31/04</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">200</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">9/30/03</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">12/31/03</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">1/31/04</FONT></TD></TR><TR ALIGN="center" VALIGN="bottom"><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">2004</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">4/1/04</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">3/31/05</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99><FONT FACE="Arial">200</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">9/30/04</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">12/31/04</FONT></TD><TD BGCOLOR=#FFFF99 STYLE="vnd.ms-excel.numberformat:m/d/yy"><FONT FACE="Arial">1/31/05</FONT></TD></TR></Table>

Hope this helps.

Okay I thought of another question. Let's say it is September 2001 and I want to book a trip for August 2002. I don't have any 2001 points left so I use 2002 points for the trip in August 2002. Now how far ahead can you borrow? I know you can use 2003 points but is that the farthest ahead you can go?

Thanks for all your help!!!

Melinda:)

Yes, you can only borrow points from the upcoming Use Year. (You can also only bank points ahead one year). The most points you could ever use in one year would be 3 years worth by banking one year forward and borrowing from the upcoming year.

Thanks Caskbill! I will print out this chart and keep it with my DVC papers :)
