Forgotten about this thread as well. I'm off this weekend to Lake Yale Conference Center for FLorida Baptist Conference of the Deaf. Sixteen are going from our church and there will be about 100-150 total including kids, spouses and interpreters. It is always a great weekend but this one will be special as we are honoring our missionary to the deaf in Florida who recently retired.

Hey just checking in here. Have grown up in church my whole life, but chose him as my savior five years ago in confirmation. Fairly active in my church youth and gone on a couple of mission trips, one of them being Roswell.

While we were there, we were given some quite time and I flipped through the Bible. I came across Timothy and it stated that even he, who persecuted the Christians, was saved by God's love and grace. While we were out just praying for people, one man was really receptive. He realized to go to heaven, he needed to be saved. One guy in our group was very into and started talking. I also stated to him that verse that I had found, and he prayed with us. It was a really moving moment at that time, and felt God work through us. I think it helped a lot in my faith meeting that guy!

Hello everyone!

We've been up to pretty much the same routine, except my husband was able to coordinate his work and school schedules so that he can join me in our church's choir. He used to be a vocal performance major, and he is loving the opportunity to sing again. Plus, I love having him there with me.

I've also started a new job, which is only OK so far. I'm looking into other opportunities, but also trying to stay positive while I'm still at this job.

Saxoon, mission trips really are wonderful, uplifting experiences. In high school my church youth group went to the Bahamas. The section where people live is nothing like the tourist areas--there is a lot of poverty. So many people had such a hunger for the Lord and came to know Him. What a blessing!

Good morning everyone

Since we are a border city, we take a few trips to Mexico. On one of them back in November, we went to a children's home and helped tar their roof and later that night we went to go see the Skeleton Key. The next day, we went into the dump (literally) and gave out beans and rice to whomever wanted any. We stopped in their church, maybe 30 by 20 or something like that. We started singing with them, giving money to their church. There was a lot of hugging and crying, me being one of them. I am not one of those guys that crys a whole lot, but this brought me to tears because they were so happy to see us. Even through those conditions, they did not shun God, and that was so powerful. I still tear up whenever I talk about it. Greatest moment of my life!

How funny you should mention that--we have had very similar experiences.

On that trip to the Bahamas we were separated into groups that went to different area churches to assists them with their Vacation Bible School programs. So many kids showed up--it was amazing! On Sunday morning each group attended their "home" church's worship service. There was a sign on the wall that showed the previous week's attendance and total tithe received. It said $87 was received the previous week, and it wasn't because these people weren't faithful givers. When the pastor announced that it was offering time that Sunday, the church members erupted in applause. They showed me what it means to be a joyful giver, and I asked the Lord to give me the same joy and convinction when tithing. I am happy to say that God blessed me with true happiness when I tithe, and it's a settled issue as far as I'm concerned. If those who have nothing can give joyfully, then I, who am blessed beyond words, can give joyfully too. I think this is what Jesus meant when He said that the last shall be first and the first shall be last--those people set such a wonderful example.

Very well stated!!! When I was in the Marine Corps and station onboard the Theodore Roosevelt we stopped in the Bahamas and a group of us (both Navy & Marine Christian) spent a day helping repair a church roof and landscaping. The people of the church were so blessed...it is a memory that I will charish forever!

Stuff like that leaves lasting impressions on you, and you know you have made an impact in their life. I am so glad I have found this thread. It is a pleasant change from a lot of stuff.

We were blessed with a great youth leader who was a friend of mine before. He has taken our old youth group of just playing games, to going out and doing good. Cleaning up graffiti, helping a battered women's shelter, etc. We still have fun, but there is more point to youth now.

It is great to see what people are doing to share the Lord. The seeds you have planted will grow beyond your wildest expectations. It is great to show our youth in a positive way! The media rarely covers the good they do; but makes sure that any misdeed is well publicized.

Had a very interesting sermon today... the timing of it is what was so interesting. We've been going thru the book of Romans, and today we were on Romans 11, which talks about Israel's future. This sermon series has been wonderful!

Are ya'll in a series, and what is the subject matter?

I am sure many of you have heard the Israeli counter-attack against Lebanon. It is kind of scary because wasn't there a prophecy that stated that Israel would be attacked from the North. That would be a starting point for the end times.

I will note that I am taking this with a grain of salt, as Israel has been attacked on all sides since the wheel, but it is interesting to note.

We are also in a series on Praising God. 2nd Chronicles:20 was our text for for the last 2 weeks. The signs of Christ's return as preached in Revelations are getting stronger! I'm glad my tickets paid for and my bags are packed.
