This is probably one issue that I vote against what "my party" wants. I am a Democrat, but I also live in Texas.

Like many other border states, it is a huge problem here.

I am not against people coming to this country from Mexico, I just want them to do it legally. Maybe part of the answer is making it easier for them to work here legally, I don't know.

To Spazzy who was talking about who would mow our lawns, buss the tables, etc. I agree with you, but it costs much more to pay for education, food stamps. hospital care etc. that we give to these people.

I really don't know what the answer is, but we need to find one.

Flame away!! Quote me all you want, insult me, call me names, and do whatever you want but this is what I think and question I ask when people bring stuff up like this....

When you go out to eat who makes your food?
Who cleans your mess up at the table you eat at restaurant?
Who landscapes your home?
Who builds your new home?
Who paves your streets?
Who will nanny for you while you are at work?
Who cleans your offices?
Who cleans your shopping establishments?
Who cleans your home?
AND who does this for next to nothing or for less than an average american would ever work for? Sometimes working a long hard day and then not getting paid at all?
Oh my is it these "evil" illegal aliens coming over here? YES, it is.

They may use our welfare system and ::gasp:: go to the same school as our children but, honestly I would rather have my tax money go to these people than a crack mama, a meth head or someone who is abusing the system that are here legally.

They come here for a better life obviously their country is not going to get any better with as many crooked politicians there are in their countries.
6.00 an hour may not seem to be alot to most people but, to them that is a fortune compared to the 6 dollars a week that they make where they are from.

Why not keep a better eye on the folks from other countries that seem to be more of a danger to the folks here that come here legally, let their visas expire, get aircraft training and then go kill thousands of americans.

No flames from me, but I can honestly answer that in my area, none of these things will be performed by illegal aliens. Perhaps it's so in Arizona; and that's understandable, but it's not so all across this great nation and I would personally like to keep in the way it is in our area. Americans fill these jobs in my area.

A dig at my intelligence?! :rotfl: Oh I'm devastated really.

No matter how many walls you build, guards you put on them or punishments you hand out desperate people searching for better lives will find a way around it, over it or under it.

Myst

it's not a dig at your intelligence, it's oversimplification.

a border wall wouldn't totally cease the illegal affront, but it would stem the tide.

as a US citizen, you are subject to deadly force if you wrongfully cross a boundry into
a military base. illegals come and go as they please.

This is a serious question and not sarcasm. If they are here illegally how do they get education, food stamps and hospital care (ok maybe I can see the hospital care because docs take an oath and it doesn't matter who you are)? Wouldn't they get caught and deported? You have to have ID to register for those things correct?

Myst

exactly, immigrate LEGALLY. pass the citizenship test, enroll in society with a valid SS number and DL, and prove you want to assimilate by learning to speak English.

I have been around illegal aliens who openly talked about fake ids, cards, etc.
I wouldn't be suprised if illegals had these IN HAND before they crossed the border, if not, they get them soon after.

You don't have to pass a citizenship test to be here legally. You can be here legally as a landed immigrant. Now if you want extra rights, such as voting priveliges, then you have to become a citizen.

Very much against walls around people. Not only does it stop some from coming in, it prevents others from getting out. Just a bad, bad idea all the way around. Anytime any country starts putting up walls, it leads to no good.

Plus, I'm not all that worried about Mexicans coming into the country to work. Wouldn't give them welfare, but if they want to make some money to support their families, I'm all for it.

That wall will do nothing to stem the flow of illegal drugs.

We'd be able to do more to fight drug smuggling if we'd get the CIA and other agencies to stop smuggling it themselves!!

As for illegal immigrants, well, that wall will post a formidable barrier, for the portions of the border where it exists but what about the areas where it doesn't exist? Are we to militarize our borders and let the terrorists claim yet another victory as we lose more and more of our hard-won freedoms?

As far as schools...they come here pregnant and have the child in US...instant citizen. Their child receives a free public education,a better one than my child due to the bilingual education. They are taught in english and spanish. My child is not taught any spanish unless I can afford private tutoring. So now they have an edge when it comes to jobs later on.

My most recent job was in the birthing center of a local hospital. I can tell you that about 75% were illegals having their child using medi cal or some other assistance program to have that child. They can easily use fake id's to obtain whatever they need. We were never allowed to question their authenticity. They speak absolutely no english. I don't blame them one bit. They are doing whatever they can to provide a better life for themselves and their children. They do indeed work their behinds off usually at very labor intensive jobs. The Mexican government is to blame, but they will never change while the US is more than happy to provide for their poor.

another problem. a knocked-up illegal immigrant finds a way to defeat the border patrol and give birth on US soil. the baby is an automatic US citizen and we won't ship the baby mama home because it endangers the family unit.

it's way out of whack.

Is that right? My gosh, I never knew that. Are you talking all CA schools or southern CA schools?

That is such a farce. My son was asked to transfer out of a Spanish 1 class due to the enrollment being booked by Spanish speaking students. his friend told him later that is was changed to accomodate spanish language learners...students that learn in spanish.

Yes you are right you have to have an "ID". Come to Houston and I can sell you a million of them.

Look at your school system, a lot of the parents are here illegally but their children were born here, so you have how many ESL teachers? They are also able to get the free breakfast/lunch program. The children are also able to get free medical care at the hospitals.

Also, in Texas we have the policy of the police not asking if you are here legally or illegally. Maybe you heard in the news a few weeks ago about an illegall immigrant who shot a killed a Houston police officer.

The city of Houston or the State of Texas does not have enough money to catch and deport the millions here illegally.

Like I said before, I have been someone who supported immigration, but at this point, at least in Houston, it is getting to the point where my children are being affected by the illegal immigrants here.

Yes, but there lies the problem, they have to get the ids and cards to be able to work, so then they take them to get the state assistance. It goes hand in hand.
