Even if that happens, there will still be a huge desire to get beyond that wall. And, as now, there will be people willing and able to pay someone to get them beyond that wall. And since there will have to be holes in the wall for commerce, legal immigration, leisure travel, etc., and there will be guards at those holes, and guards are humans and therefore bribe-able and/or threatenable, people will find a way to get through.

I just don't see a way that the wall, even if implemented in the best way possible (i.e., not with cameras "guarding" most of it), won't be a waste of money.

Hot button for me as we live about 20 mines from the border.
We were driving to a football game today and we drive right by the AZ/Mexico border. There is a wall. You can see it in the distance. It starts then stops. I always laugh at that silly thing because these people are so desperate to come across they just walk further down the wall and then cross over.
But something MUST be done. Until we take a STRONG stance they will continue to cross into the US.
Someone posted beefing up the Border Patrol. Well that's all fine and well except the BP agents aren't allowed to do their jobs. If they defend themselves they get put on suspension. When they capture illegals they are just dropped back off at the border (many times). Around here (and I am sure in many border cities/towns) land is being destroyed. People's lives are being lost. Yet we still turn a blind eye (until election season) away from the problem.
Don't even get me started about the free health care, the lawsuits they win, etc etc.
It has to stop.

They need to start rounding them up and sending them back. Enforce the laws we have. We need to find a way to punish them, not just send them back to try again. I think the Mexican government encourgages them to come here, easier than fixing the problems that forces them to come here looking for work.

The vote on the wall is just Bush trying anything to help the republicans keep control in Washington. I hope people see it for what it is and realize it will never be built, and won't make a difference if they ever do build it.

Flame away!! Quote me all you want, insult me, call me names, and do whatever you want but this is what I think and question I ask when people bring stuff up like this....

When you go out to eat who makes your food?
Who cleans your mess up at the table you eat at restaurant?
Who landscapes your home?
Who builds your new home?
Who paves your streets?
Who will nanny for you while you are at work?
Who cleans your offices?
Who cleans your shopping establishments?
Who cleans your home?
AND who does this for next to nothing or for less than an average american would ever work for? Sometimes working a long hard day and then not getting paid at all?
Oh my is it these "evil" illegal aliens coming over here? YES, it is.

They may use our welfare system and ::gasp:: go to the same school as our children but, honestly I would rather have my tax money go to these people than a crack mama, a meth head or someone who is abusing the system that are here legally.

They come here for a better life obviously their country is not going to get any better with as many crooked politicians there are in their countries.
6.00 an hour may not seem to be alot to most people but, to them that is a fortune compared to the 6 dollars a week that they make where they are from.

Why not keep a better eye on the folks from other countries that seem to be more of a danger to the folks here that come here legally, let their visas expire, get aircraft training and then go kill thousands of americans.

Unfunded mandate. I doubt it will ever be built.

It was funded a few weeks ago by congress - it was part of a Homeland Security budget item. This was the approval to actually use that money for that purpose.

A dig at my intelligence?! Oh I'm devastated really.

No matter how many walls you build, guards you put on them or punishments you hand out desperate people searching for better lives will find a way around it, over it or under it.

The only answer is to stop offering free health care, free educations, legal assistance...Can't blame them...we make it too enticing. If all the above wasn't offered, they probably wouldn't put up with the misearble pay and the back breaking work they do now.

I worked for the county hospital in Riverside, CA. We were there specifically for MIA (medically indigent Adult program). which was there for anyone who couldn't qualify for Medi cal. Meaning Illegal aliens. Oh sure, if you were a citizen you could qualify, but you'd have to verify income, couldn't own property, or have over $5000.00 to your name. But if you were illegal, well no problem...we were not allowed to ask for income verification, not allowed to require a green card. They could own cars, homes, have cash flow and never pay a DIME! I remember having to tell the old retired couples that they had to sell their home before we could provide any assistance, but illegals never had to do a thing.
