Barack Obama is not a racist. He is an American of mixed heritage who knows someone who has said some very disturbing things. He doesn't agree with the things that were said.

Did you think that people on here don't know that Obama is half-white?

I think you should send the photos to his pastor instead.

Interesting pictures. I find it amazing that he'd allow his daughters to sit in a congregation with people who go wild listening to the horrible things that man had to say.

Enough already. He doesn't just "know" him. Although, it's perfectly obvious why you want to phrase it that way.

He does not "just know someone" who has said very disturbing things. This man has been Obama's spiritual adviser for TWENTY years.

The photos don't fit your idea so 'enough already', eh? He respects the man, he doesn't agree with him. He said it, I believe him.

I wonder how many of your now screaming for his head had ever considered voting for him anyway.

You know, we have a family friend that we have known since I was 8..There was a long period of time when I lived in Ca and didn't see her...This woman can't stand immigrents .I've heard her and her husband talk about how they would love to stand there with granades while they come over the border...SHe constantly talks about how much she hates RI, the US government and how she believes the country is run by a New World Order out to destroy us all.. I mean she really says crazy stuff..The thing is she is like family.. She has helped my mother many times and she drove me to the hospital 3-4 times a week when Ed was sick..
I totally disagree with about 3/4 of what she says.. I just roll my eyes when she rants and /or change the subject..I can't cut her out of my life..I just disagree with her on almost everything.

BTW, she is retired coast guard and her husband is retired ARMY

Well, Jenny, I guess it really does take all kinds to make a world.

Excuse me, but I posted that I thought they were interesting photos. My comment "enough already" was clearly directed at the comment that Obama merely "knows" Jeremiah Wright. That has to be the euphemism of year.

And no, I had no intention of voting for the man. His views are so far left it makes my head spin. But whether or not I was going to vote for him isn't the point. It's how all those easily swayed people muddling around in the middle see this issue.

I got news for you. This mess is entirely of Obama's making. He could have nipped this in the bud a year ago when he announced. It displays a serious lack of judgement on his part.

She also thinks her house is possessed by Satan and often cleanses it with holy water. She has believed there are ghosts and/or demons their since the 70's... I just don't get the racism issues though. Her son is half Black.

I really think they are the type to move to an armed compound in wyoming or something..
She once warned me to hoard toilet paper because the government (new world order) would be coming after me because I homeschooled.

"Quick, kids, grab the toilet paper. It'll protect us from those government men in the black helicopters landing on the lawn!" ;)

It makes no sense to me nor do I care if Obama denounces the poison that his pastor spews. He has said NOTHING to repudiate the reaction of the congregation. A congregation that CLAPS and CHEERS when this hate filled man says the racist horrible things that he does.

As I watched the clips again, this is what made a great impression on me. BO claims he had zero knowledge of Wright's racist and hate-filled attitude's for al of 20 years. That the church he attends is one that preaches the love of Jesus. (Hallelujah!) That word of these sermons had NEVER trickled down to him UNTIL he began his run for the White House.

Yet on the videos, when the minister begins to spew his hate, I don't hear a congregation gasping in surprise or outrage. I don't see one of them walking out. I don't even hear the silence of polite disagreement. Noooooooo, what I hear is cheers, shouts of agreement , loud applause, some Amens, etc. What I see is clapping, heads nodding in agreement, and plenty of jumping up in a show of support.

This says it all, folks. This tells me, and anyone else with a working brain, that this church's membership's attitude is one with Rev. Wright's. They are in accord. This is a pervasive attitude there. It is an accepted view and mindset. It is how they REALLY feel. These words were not coming as any shock to that group. You could tell. The church was acting as an organism on those occasions and that organism was WITH what Rev. Wright was saying. And guess what? Obama and the Mrs. were part of that organism by choice for years and years. It is beyond naive to believe they are the only two members who would have been outraged by those sermons and would have walked out the door. Nope, they might have been savvy enough not to stand and cheer lest they be caught on tape, but they'd have been with the rest of the bunch in spirit. Use the tiniest bit of common sense and read between the lines of Obama's CYA speech.

"I denounce and repudiate any beliefs or sermons of Rev. Wright which would cause me to lose votes if White people hear them. I would have done so sooner, but sticking my head under the covers was so much more pleasant. My butt is on the line now, however, so believe what I say and not what common sense demands. Thank you for vote, even if you are the evil oppressor of my (well, half of my) people."

No way, no how, no sir. Don't try and tell me that he was thick with these congregants for 20 years....the same congregants who were GIDDY at hearing Wright's hateful "sermons" and cheered so lustily.....and that he had no idea as to the belief system of his fellow church members. Puh-leeze. :rolleyes1 That dog won't hunt, even in Chicago.

And you know, he couldn't just repudiate, renounce/denounce, etc., No, he had to go on and try and rehabilitate his preacher by saying what a well-respected Christian scholar he is. (Among whom? Black racists??? Okay, I'll buy that.) Then he harped on his military service....Marines, I think. Well, Hitler and Stalin were in the military, but I don't think that gives them sainthood. I'll bet we could find plenty of good old American veterans who have turned out to be KKK members. Military service doesn't give you a pass on racism and hate. Nice try, Obama.

Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas.

I've stayed out of this thread, but here is my take on it.

Obama feels love and loyalty to this minister, they are close friends. I have a best friend with whom I disagree on many political issues. We love and respect each other. I am godparent to his child. We're closer than most brothers. He and his family have traveled with me to DVC.

However, I do not attend the same church as my friend, his church tends to be on the Evangelical side, though not as strongly leaning as most in that category. I do not go to my friend for religious, social and moral guidance, though we do have some interesting discussions on the subjects.

On the other hand, a minister, who you have known for 20 years, and whose services you have attended for 20 years is just that. I mean, isn't the purpose of attending a church to receive religious and moral guidance and fellowship from those that share your beliefs?

Do you really think someone would join and attend any church for 20 years, be married by the minister, admire him so much you openly admit to him inspiring books you've written, if you didn't share a great many of those same beliefs? Being friends and respecting someone else's beliefs is very different from being ministered to by someone, and turning to them for spiritual and moral guidance.

Now, Obama claims to have done this for 20 years, and never had knowledge of these kinds of statements? Yet the congregation hardly seemed shocked by the messages being delivered in the videos. It is possible that Obama and his family didn't attend on those Sundays, but I guarantee you, though I rarely attend church (I've met our minister, that's about it) I guarantee if something over the top happened at a service, I (and probably half the county) would know about it by sundown.

Careful now, Those infamamous compounds were in Idaho. Don't be painting us Wyomingites with the same brush;)

Ok -- so she is nutty, has disgusting views about illegal aliens and exorcises demons in her home. Would you have her sprinkle the holy water on your kids? If running for a public office, would you have her serve on your spiritual advisory committee? I'm guessing no. Because her beliefs and practices are in opposition with your own. However, if you kinda buy in to some of what she is saying, you might put her on your advisory committee. That is the point that everyone has been making. For Obama to say he didn't know this man was an anti-american, anti-white, racist bigot, is not believable, even for those with a modicum of common sense.

Obama has previously referred to Wright as the crazy uncle that says crazy things. If you have a crazy uncle, then YOU KNOW HE IS A CRAZY UNCLE AND WHAT MAKES HIM CRAZY. Now Obama says he never knew he was bigoted, anti-American, anti-Jew, Anti-white. He said he would have quit the church had he known. So which is it? Is he the crazy uncle that says crazy things, or is he the caring, devout spiritual advisor that never said anything hateful, bigoted or controversial at any dinner, sermon or meeting you attended??

This stuff is nothing new....what bothers me is that, just like Al Gore, we have lost John Edwards.

The writing is on the wall, but seems that few people read it. They hop on the first YEE HAW wagon that goes by no matter what its destination.

Oh, and thank you to those who voted for Bush the 1st time and were dumb enough to vote for him a second time. When was that 100 zillion dollars ago?
And thank to those of you that put Obama on the President to be pedestal.
