Boma - Not all it is cracked up to be...

I agree in the variety, and it isn't like I didn't find anything to eat. I just found what there was to eat very mundane. We had better at Tusker House, which has almost the exact type of food, just not as gourmet.

... I just preferred Tusker House over Boma. Even the prime rib was better at the Tusker House.

That's is GOOD to know about Tusker House. I haven't tried it since it was changed to buffet style. (I really liked it before, so now I have a reason to try it again!) Thanks!:thumbsup2

We love Boma for the service and the energy of the place... and the soups:) My DH is a very picky eater and the night we had dinner there they had prime rib that he enjoyed. He steered clear of all the unusual items I was very adventerous so we both enjoyed ourselves. We had an 8pm ADR and the place was jumping..but we like that vibe:)
Someone said something positive about Tusker House and I would agree. We had lunch there and food wise it was our best meal on our trip. Very fresh and delish..or maybe we were just famished:)

We have a 4:30 reservation next week, and it will also be our first time. I have only heard good things about it. I like to try different things, and different restaurants at Disney, there is so much. Hope we enjoy it and thanks for the reviews.

We'll be trying BOMA for the first time next week. I'll try almost any type of food once. Hoping for the best.

DH and I also were not impressed with Boma and he eats everything. His favorite was Chef Mickeys and mine was 1900 Park Faire. Just wasn't impressed considering all the hype. :confused3

I think it's very easy for things to become overrated on these boards. Not to say that they aren't good and that some people enjoy them very much, but the amount of hype can very easily lead to disappointment. I try to look for places that seem to be consistent in reviews, but also know that anyone can have an off dining experience anywhere.

We have 8:30 breakfast ADRs on 11/18. I knew I couldn't get my picky family to eat there for dinner but I was hoping breakfast would have enough choices to satisfy everyone. As long as there are pastries and waffles or pancakes I think they will be happy.

I was wondering the same thing. I actually made two at 7:30 because my mom and I love breakfast. I'm all about trying new foods but I'm hoping there will be some backups.

We have been to Boma's for dinner twice - having read the menu in advance - we decided to put our DD in the kids club, Simbas for a couple of hours - she had a much better time and they catered to her picky needs. We also went for a late breakfast there this August and DD ate well - it was pretty quiet - much less hectic than the dinners we had experienced before and the service was very good (service was good at dinner as well by the way) - we will no doubt return.

I am always so surprised when people don't like Boma. I am married to "Mr. Meat and Potatoes". He could NOT have a duller palate. I, on the other hand, am Mrs. Foodie. We both LOVE Boma. So much so that it's part of the reason that we're going to stay at AKL again.

We have breakfast planned there 3 days of our 7. If I hadn't already planned our evening ADR's when we found out we were going to get to stay at AKL, we'd be having dinner there as well. We are having dinner at Jiko - it was DH's first request. Maybe African is just the only real non-American taste he's suited for, but he just loves them both. Thrills me, I tell ya'.

I get to go the PFTS for my 50th birthday present, but really, he finds the booth that serves something that looks like steak, locates the Sam Adams, and entertains himself by eating steak and drinking beer all evening, while I wander around trying to get my fill of exotic tastes for the YEAR! :lmao:

yep, what mickeynicki said. We were there in September...packed to the gills our trip too. Long, long lines at every station & kids cutting in line all over. Food all either too hot-spicy, too bland-nothing or too sweet. Didn't seem to be much "just right".
