Well, I'm kinda laughing about this thread (in one of those eye-rollin', oh good grief kind of ways! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZSzeb04242US' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_1_102.gif' alt='Too Funny' border=0></a> But laughin' none the less!)
Well, first of all, I mis-read the title... I thought it meant the OP was soliciting other BWV owners for THEIR views on SSR. Being a BWV owner of occasionally sound mind and Could-stand-to-hit-the-Nordic Track-more-often body who has also had the great fortune to stay at SSR before, I figured what the hey and clicked on it.
Of course, I then discovered it wasn't about getting my opinion -- it was Zurgswife given hers... fair 'nuf, I love a good trip report, so I started readin'. Well, once I got through her commentary on SSR (as made from the perspective of someone who prefers a full-service 1-building in the heart-of-it-all hotel such as BWV), I somehow knew -- this was going to stir the pot, sez I. ANd then I read the posts that followed...

I don't think anything of a slam-a-tory nature was intended by the OP; most of us have all been around DIS long enough to also know that the thread could have just as easily been written in the other direction, with BWV folks up in arms. If my DH ever wrote his impressions of BWV, I'm sure it would ruffle the feathers of any BWV-lover who should happen to take it too personally:
"And then I pulled my vehicle up as stealthily as possible, but dash it all -- we were immediately pounced on by the over-eager bellmen. They had luggage carts, and they were hogging them for themselves to CART UP LUGGAGE FOR YOU... can you believe it, they wanted to TAKE OUR STUFF for us (cheeky you-know-whats) to our room. There's an elevator, and I'm a capable person -- despite having luggage for a family of 5 that packs like a family of 10, I'd much rather just haul my crap myself. And they wanted to park my car, too - as if the luggage thing wasn't enough?!? My personal space is being invaded.... Must...break...free....from...CM.... control!! People waiting on me like that make me nervous. Even the lobby feels too stuffy gold-n-glitter for me and my casual shorts-clad self. And I feel guilty as I pass the parking valets, determined to park my own car in the self-parking lot. The internal hallways are noisier here at BWV... and they are so long, the sounds just echoechoechoecho forever...." You get the idea.
Bottom line is the careful use of the words: for those who
take it too personally. Frankly, I think of myself as a person and a DVCer, who happens to own at BWV, but likes all the resorts for various reasons. DH is a person, and a DVCer, who happens to prefer the resorts that allow him to carry his own bags and park nearby and "spread out" condo-style. Our kids are kids,
DVC spawn, who happen to like ANYTHING in WDW (though each has his/her preferences, ranging from SSR to VWL to BCV to -- well, pretty much all of them are represented!) And likewise, the OP is a person, a DVCer, who happens to prefer the amenities of a full-service consolidated hotel versus a more laid back self-serve sprawling orientation.
Some folks will spot the differences and comment on them to show what they learned by trying something outside their realm of the usual. THey may like it -- they may not -- but it's their opinion. But some folks will always see those differences as a reason to justify their own choices.
Done correctly, we can agree to disagree and enjoy the contrast, viva la DVC diff-er-ence!

Done incorrectly -- well, they shut down your thread, LOL!

I always hate to see it get heated just because someone didn't have a stellar experience, or perhaps simply realized that a particular resort or experience wasn't their cup of tea.... SOmeone else who likes the consolidated "hotel" treatment may read this OP's post and think, Hmmm, I need to be sure to tell the front desk at SSR I want a bellman, whereas someone like my DH may read the post and say, "Oooo Oooo, you hear that, we can go there and no one will try to nab our luggage! And it's so big and sprawling, we can live like we're in a luxury condo, rather than a hotel..." I always get a kick out of seeing who likes what resort, and why. It doesn't change how I feel and neither does it make me feel I have to rush out to vehemently "defend my passion's honor"... it just illuminates me on how others might feel.
JMHO, as always...
