I've decided   I'm keeping my thoughts to myself

edited to remove the thoughts of personal attacks out....I was giving my thoughts....I just have thin skin and got my feelings hurt...and the nasty PM's didn't help..

This is an example going beyond the reasons one doesn't like a resort, to slamming a resort.

Okay all those who love to attack other resorts, join the feeding frenzy.

And tjkraz, just sit this one out. It's gonna be OK. We know where this stuff is coming from.

zurgswife, I am sorry that you have deleted your comments. While I will reiterate that I don't feel you slammed SSR, you did use strong language to express your dislike for the resort. Many of the comments posted here used equally strong language to disagree with you. Some of it may have been inappropriate, but you have been here for a long time and had to know that your comments would result in equally strong comments defending the resort. I hope you will reconsider your decision to delete the opening post.

Hmm. Didn't strike me as a slam. The OP doesn't care for this resort and gave reasons why, embedded in a trip report that brought those reasons to life. It was nothing like the "only stupid idiots would stay at the BCV" stuff that went around last year.

Enjoyed your trip report. They definitely need to get at least one more blender for this large resort - hee hee.

How so?? I personally didn't read it that way. I am a BWV owner, and by my choice, I'm checking into SSR this coming Friday for a week, specifically to "check it out".

For that matter OneMoreTry -- have you seen this post? CLICK

Is that also a "slamming"?

As a form of praise for the place, SSR's Goat to DTD is the fastest!! ;)

I enjoyed your report and no, I don't think it was a "slam" either. :confused3

Wowsa, it sure got hot in here fast!

Zurgswife, it's great to see you back and hear your review. I like reading about both the good and bad.... i"m still super excited to try out SSR someday in the future.

Hope you had a great trip!

I got an uneasy feeling just from the title, thinking before I ever signed in "oh boy - - - this is going to get ugly".

I think your report wasn't a slam and I do appreciate you giving your opinions.

I am kinda concerned that several people have had a bad experience because they didn't realize bell services are available (you are not the first one to think they weren't there at all). These kinds of things are part of what I think makes some people be disappointed with SSR.

I also will say again that people that prefer high-service hotels will probably not be happy with this resort or OKW as they have a different style. In some ways, it makes me defensive when I read negatives (and your report was mostly negatives...some that were truly resort operations related, but most that are just preferences) that come across as "no one ought to bother staying there...its the pits". I know that isn't what you mean - simply that SSR is not for you.

So, for people like OneMoreTry, I say just join the "more room for me" club and don't take it personally hun :cheer2:

We found your trip report to be full of good advice relating to your experiences at SSR.
We did not think your report slammed SSR at all. It was your experience and your opinions.
Can't understand why some DVC members get so defensive if any one posts their experiences/opinions about a DVC resort that is less than glowing. Why do you care? As long as you are happy that is all that counts. All WDW resorts are unique. Opinions vary from person to person. Some people consider a Mickey rice krispie treat the greatest. My family does not like them at all. It is all what one prefers. We have not found any resort in WDW that we would not stay in as opposd to going to work
Remember the magic.

Boy you read alot more into it.....It has been clear from the beginning that I'm a diehard BWV lover.....just offered my opinons on the things I could think of...sorry you didn't like my review....but it is just that My Humble Opinion. Just like you don't have to agree, I don't have to stay there. And chances are I most probably won't venture from my beloved BWV (well my kids may beat 1 trip to BCV but that's about the only exception)

PS....Could you tell me "where this stuff is coming from" because you lost me there....?????

Thanks for the report, going to SSR in two weeks to check it out for ourselves, also BWV owners and could have gotten ressie there for July but wanted to try SSR.

The key here is try, everyone should really go and then form their own opinions, didn't think you slammed SSR, gave your honest feedback. If if you did slam it, I think people should still try it out for themselves.

Thanks

OK....it took 6 people 16 round trips to lug all our CRAP up to our 2nd floor room. Then we went grocery shopping and that was another 7 trips. I decided this SUCKED BIG TIME!!! I was bothered by this the entire trip. They should have carts or something.....well when I went to check out at 5:30am the CM at the desked asked weather I needed bell services to help with my bags....WHAT!!!!!!!! didn't realize Bell service would help as this option was never offered to me at check in.....So, remember if you have lots of STUFF like my family request help from Bell Services.

I am rolling on this one... didn't you notice the guys in the funky outfits out front LOL! (I can just see all this crap, it sounds like you were moving to Disney, which I know would be good LOL!)

I think they don't have carts because carts would then be used by the kiddos as "go karts" (I have seen it done at some VERY nice hotels..... Was at a four star hotel where the bell services had to knock on mom and dad's room to explain to them that the bell carts were NOT thier brats personal toys. The kids were stealing them while the bellmen were in the hotel room doing the luggage set up and tour!!!!) Then when Junior busts his head open Disney gets sued.

:rotfl2:

OK, I'll try to resist. ;)

Honestly, I didn't see it as a slam either. The most frustrating part, IMO, is the usual amount of mis-information about the resort. Oh, well. :confused3

As far as the carts...I know it would be a liability...but hey...I was sick of lugging stuff up to the room..

Hilton Head and VB resorts have lots of carts and I've yet to see Grand Prix racing with them. Also, people seem to return them to the cart parking space when done. At WDW, I have to unload the car using the stroller.

Fear of lawsuits can't be the reason. Seems to me tripping over baggage while hauling it up stairs is equally a lawsuit waiting to happen. It is probably that at WDW, the carts would not get returned to the 1st floor of the resort so the next guest could use them.

To me, "sucks big time" steps into slam territory. Maybe it's just my sheltered upbringing, though. I'll give you that.

I've read reviews that said the same thing and coveyed the same opinions in a more gracious way. There is hostility in tone of this one. Maybe not intentional, but that's probably what I was infering is a slam.

Well, I'm kinda laughing about this thread (in one of those eye-rollin', oh good grief kind of ways! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZSzeb04242US' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_1_102.gif' alt='Too Funny' border=0></a> But laughin' none the less!)

Well, first of all, I mis-read the title... I thought it meant the OP was soliciting other BWV owners for THEIR views on SSR. Being a BWV owner of occasionally sound mind and Could-stand-to-hit-the-Nordic Track-more-often body who has also had the great fortune to stay at SSR before, I figured what the hey and clicked on it.

Of course, I then discovered it wasn't about getting my opinion -- it was Zurgswife given hers... fair 'nuf, I love a good trip report, so I started readin'. Well, once I got through her commentary on SSR (as made from the perspective of someone who prefers a full-service 1-building in the heart-of-it-all hotel such as BWV), I somehow knew -- this was going to stir the pot, sez I. ANd then I read the posts that followed...

<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZSzeb04242US' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/3/3_8_9.gif' alt='Wow' border=0></a>

I don't think anything of a slam-a-tory nature was intended by the OP; most of us have all been around DIS long enough to also know that the thread could have just as easily been written in the other direction, with BWV folks up in arms. If my DH ever wrote his impressions of BWV, I'm sure it would ruffle the feathers of any BWV-lover who should happen to take it too personally:

"And then I pulled my vehicle up as stealthily as possible, but dash it all -- we were immediately pounced on by the over-eager bellmen. They had luggage carts, and they were hogging them for themselves to CART UP LUGGAGE FOR YOU... can you believe it, they wanted to TAKE OUR STUFF for us (cheeky you-know-whats) to our room. There's an elevator, and I'm a capable person -- despite having luggage for a family of 5 that packs like a family of 10, I'd much rather just haul my crap myself. And they wanted to park my car, too - as if the luggage thing wasn't enough?!? My personal space is being invaded.... Must...break...free....from...CM.... control!! People waiting on me like that make me nervous. Even the lobby feels too stuffy gold-n-glitter for me and my casual shorts-clad self. And I feel guilty as I pass the parking valets, determined to park my own car in the self-parking lot. The internal hallways are noisier here at BWV... and they are so long, the sounds just echoechoechoecho forever...." You get the idea.

Bottom line is the careful use of the words: for those who take it too personally. Frankly, I think of myself as a person and a DVCer, who happens to own at BWV, but likes all the resorts for various reasons. DH is a person, and a DVCer, who happens to prefer the resorts that allow him to carry his own bags and park nearby and "spread out" condo-style. Our kids are kids, DVC spawn, who happen to like ANYTHING in WDW (though each has his/her preferences, ranging from SSR to VWL to BCV to -- well, pretty much all of them are represented!) And likewise, the OP is a person, a DVCer, who happens to prefer the amenities of a full-service consolidated hotel versus a more laid back self-serve sprawling orientation.

Some folks will spot the differences and comment on them to show what they learned by trying something outside their realm of the usual. THey may like it -- they may not -- but it's their opinion. But some folks will always see those differences as a reason to justify their own choices.

Done correctly, we can agree to disagree and enjoy the contrast, viva la DVC diff-er-ence!

Done incorrectly -- well, they shut down your thread, LOL!

I always hate to see it get heated just because someone didn't have a stellar experience, or perhaps simply realized that a particular resort or experience wasn't their cup of tea.... SOmeone else who likes the consolidated "hotel" treatment may read this OP's post and think, Hmmm, I need to be sure to tell the front desk at SSR I want a bellman, whereas someone like my DH may read the post and say, "Oooo Oooo, you hear that, we can go there and no one will try to nab our luggage! And it's so big and sprawling, we can live like we're in a luxury condo, rather than a hotel..." I always get a kick out of seeing who likes what resort, and why. It doesn't change how I feel and neither does it make me feel I have to rush out to vehemently "defend my passion's honor"... it just illuminates me on how others might feel.

JMHO, as always...

Well, my DH would say that valet parking "sucks big time" (wherein I might agree that hauling lots of parcels up the stairs was no real picnic, either). So I sure can't fault the OP for that, haha!

But as I re-read that first post, I think it's perhaps the usage of capitals and reference to those BWV "LONG HALLWAYS" (done in caps) that may be the trigger points for you. We have become accustomed to the "LONG HALLWAYS" mantra in any "slam" threads -- seeing them here may be the very thing that's inferrable (if that's a word) as slammatomic in nature. It might be advisable to let sleeping slams lie and not use, debate or defend them in posts, even if done in jest? (Sometimes the best way to let wounds heal is not to pick at the scabs, lol.)

I didn't see this as a slam either, in fact I thought it was bit funny. If I had taken 16 rounds trips for luggage and then another 7 trips for food, I would have to say that it sucked big time as well. I took that to be the unpacking and packing, not the resort. In fact I've said the same when taking 2 or 3 round trips for luggage. It is good to know that I am not the only one who packs to move in. I can't forget my computer, the video equipment, some DVD, some books to read, ... the list goes on and on.

I can also see where on a hot summer night, the outdoor hallways could be unpleasent but I usually go in the spring and around Xmas. In the spring, those same outdoor hallways you can breathe the fresh air, smell the scent of flowers, and hear the sounds of birds chipping and life emerging. Its refreshing. Different times, different results. My worst trip to Orlando was in July 1995 where the termperatures were in the upper 90s/lower 100s and I wanted to get inside as quick as possible to whatever air conditioning I could. I learn, I never go to Orlando in July!

Thanks for the report.
