Boardwalk owners thoughts on SSR

I enjoyed the report as it is nice to have different perspectives. I think the convenient parking will work well for us when we stay in January. and Outdoor corridors is fine for me. I want as much fresh air as possible on vacation. :earsgirl:

I didn't consider your review as a slam. I do think it is funny that folks don't know about bell services at SSR and OKW.

I didn't think there was slamming either - just a story of an experience that had its ups and downs.

And for the record - the "sucks big time" - I took this to mean the act of carrying everything up to the room - not the resort itself. I mean - look at the paragraph itself - she is talking about the 16 trips up and down - not about SSR in it's entirety. I could say all those trips up and down "suck big time" also, without meaning a slam on the resort at all. Clearly the OP stated later in the post that she found out that Bell Services was available to carry luggage.

It's tough for me to think that a writer can't tell a story without getting an immediate negative post. The fact is - all resorts will have positive and negative experiences posted here. And there are positive and negative ways to respond. Jumping in and being defensive is one way to deal with them. Passing by and moving onto another post is another. And simply posting, "Sorry you didn't have a great experience, I love SSR as do many others" is a third.

Here endeth the lesson. (Sorry, I just watched the Untouchables this weekend - imagine that said with a Scottish brogue and by Sean Connery, OK?. :teeth: :teeth: )

Oh, and JMHO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to clarify, did it take 6 of you 16 trips or was there 6 people carrying 2 and a half trips. If it was the former, good heavens what was left at your home?

PS. For the record. I have no stake in SSR. I don't own there. I just feel bad for those who like it a lot and recently bought points and then they find this forum and read what seems like a disproportionate number of negative opinions. Just like I felt bad for the BCV owners when BCV was the target -- fortunately that seems to be over with. So I stuck my neck out.

I guess I disagree with everyone else here about the report. :guilty:

Thanks you zurgswife for saying that you enjoyed SSR. I'm glad no one was offended by your post. :earsboy: I"m not sure what I meant by "where it's coming from." I think I was referring to your taking sides in the fray.

Zurgswife - I took no offense in your post. I get the impression that it is more the case that you like the hotel feel as opposed to the condo feel. I'd like to get a little better perspective, though. Have you stayed at OKW and what did you think of that?

One More Try - I felt it, but I guess I am over trying to defend and trying to explain to people that most of what tends to "go wrong" are misunderstandings about how the different resorts work. The same basic services (bell services, etc) are available at ALL the WDW resorts but it does seem like SSR is not doing a good job of showing that.

Zurgs wife - what is a "Sharps Jar"

I'm still laughing at the "crap" decription... so do you take more "crap" when you drive? (I KNOW I do... the "I've got room theory!) Don't do OKW, they don't even have elevators (but I love it there!)

I don't know why folks get upset when someone doesn't like someplace.... I figure that if someone doesn't like someplace I do, it just makes it more likely I will get what I want!

I really liked SSR, but do agree on the pool issue. It's going to get crowded. However, as a single female I can be really content at the quite pool.

Maybe I am niave, but what's the deal with all the competition?
I would rather be at any of the resorts than be at work. :earsboy:

I didn't think the OP was slamming SSR, but the response was so defensive! :earseek:

I am new here, so maybe I missed some really nasty stuff. Can't we all just get along? :lovestruc

Peace!

Jim

You're not naive, but you're just not jaded like some of us. ;)
And as Martha would say -- and that's a good thing!

I agree....particularily those that read these boards on a regular basis. :confused3

OneMoreTry......my initial feeling was the same as yours (and I'm sure there are others that just simply choose not to post here). Maybe not quite "slamming" but I just knew what the TR would be like when I saw the screen name of the OP. Nothing against them at all, but just had a strong feeling certain things would be said. Let's just say, I think when someone REALLY loves their "home" resort (and ain't nothin' wrong with that !), that it can be pretty difficult to give a real objective view point. Zurgswife's TR went pretty much exactly like I thought it would before I even clicked on the thread. As they said, they're a pretty die-hard BWV fan and nothing is gonna change that so you have to read that into a TR from them. I'm a pretty hard-core OKW fan, so on the flip side, not sure I'm that good at giving a real glowing account of BWV either. ;) :flower:

Zurgswife - thanks for your trip report, I enjoyed hearing your perspective on SSR. I did find the info about bell services & the availability of carts interesting. When we checked into SSR in March we were met by Bell Services at our vehicle just as we have been at OKW, Poly, & CR. The only resort we have had trouble finding a bellman was at WL - so I'm sure it's just a timing thing & can happen to anyone at anytime.

My dh & I (he's a big do-it-yourselfer) have noticed at several of our recent (non-Disney) hotel stays that carts are not being made available to guests for their own use in some hotels. In both Vegas & Dallas we were specifically told we could not use them. When we drive we are huge overpackers & have lugged our own "crap" (can't think of a better description!) out of shear embarrassment at the vast array to be shlepped. At OKW this month we noticed that all of the extra carts were chained up, I would guess to eliminate their usage by anyone but bell services.

Carts not-withstanding, we love OKW & SSR. We have yet to stay at any of the other DVC resorts, but like has been pointed out before, different strokes for different folks. We prefer the roomy resort feel of SSR & OKW to the hotel feel of the other resorts. Just a preference - no blenders could be a huge problem though! Calls for a good recipe for bourbon slush - no blender required!

All kitchens in OKW have blenders. They should have just had Mousekeeping run over there and borrow one! ;)

According to dvcmember.com, all SSR 1Bs and 2Bs have a blender. With six people in the room, I'm assuming zurgswife booked a 2B... :confused3

Not sure if the blender for that unit would have been hidden in a cubby somewhere, recently broken or otherwise misplaced. But that should explain why they don't keep dozens on hand waiting for guest request.

There wasn't a blender hidden in any cubby. But if it wasn't you'd think with 5 phone calls the would have mentioned to look for it. And no we weren't in a studio but thanks for incinuating. I wasn't trying to slam SSR...just giving my thoughts...I've taken enought bashing...I'm going home...you all don't play nice at all.

Don't let them get to you! They are just jealous that you got to go to Disney while they stayed home.

Its not funny people don't know about Bell Services at OKW and SSR, its a shame. Its also a shame that the paths aren't well marked at SSR (if that is, indeed, true). Amenities that can't be used because access to them is difficult (no signs, no information) need to be fixed. Why didn't the CM say at check in "will you need help with your bags?" The "availability" of bell services at SSR has been noted to be a problem by several posters and is probably something DVC should be fixing.

Not everyone reads every thread, and if this was a last minute trip and Zurgswife never intended to stay at SSR, she probably wasn't paying attention when the points about asking for Bell Services help have been made in the past.

No insinuation or bashing was intended. You didn't state the room size in the original post, so I was merely guessing based upon the size of the party listed.

Initially I assumed that a blender was not standard equipment, particularly based upon your comment that you've had to request it at other resorts. After reading Diane's reply, I went to check the list on the member website. Sure enough, a blender should have been included. Is this an ongoing problem with blenders being pilfered and/or otherwise missing from DVC rooms?

No, it absolutely doesn't excuse the fact that it took 5 phone calls. I never implied otherwise. I was simply attempting to address your insinuation that the resort should have a pile of blenders sitting around waiting for people to call. Assuming the rooms are stocked correctly from the start and guests are not breaking or stealing them, blenders should be present in 1B or larger.

I wasn't trying to slam SSR...just giving my thoughts...I've taken enought bashing...I'm going home...you all don't play nice at all.

Well, I'm not sure where you see bashing in my post. I was just trying to be helpful. From my POV, you're the one that didn't play very nice. :(

Sorry for trying to help.

and this, Ladies and Gentlefellows, is exactly how people's feelings get hurt. It is almost ALWAYS unintentional here. What one sees as bashing, the other sees as correcting a wrong or a simple comment that gets taken out of context.

Zurg's wife - Tjkraz might go toe to toe with someone that was being truly negative but I didn't get that from his post either. You feel attacked but even I (who got that "defensive" feeling when I read) said that I felt like you were just saying SSR wasn't for you. I hope maybe you come back and read all this in a different light at some point.

*pushing the tone button hard on her computer* ok everyone - do a tone check please :) we seem to be experiencing technical difficulties!
