Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter

It was fun. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting though. We ended up standing on a platform in the water with about 15 other people. A dolphin would then come and interact with us one at a time. There was no swimming involved at all. I am sure they have a package to do that though. At the end of the (what seemed to be) 20 minute encounter, we each took a picture with the dolphin kissing our cheek. For an additional fee, the photo is yours. It is not much and of course I had to buy it. The rest of the time we spent on the beach, which was beautiful and the water was nice and warm (this was Oct. 2001). They served a bar-b-que style lunch, which was pretty good. I really enjoyed the excursion, being able to interact with the dolphins was an amazing feeling and the little island it is on is absolutley beautiful with plenty of hammoks haging between trees. Because I have already done it, next time I will skip the dolphin part and just do the blue lagoon beach excursion. I think it was worth the money though. How many times in your life do youhave the chace to hug and kiss a dolphin? Hope this helps!!

I posted this reply before. My wife and I did the Dolphin swim and that was really worth every penny. My DD and the DD of the other couple going with us on our Wonder cruise in June already have a SWIM booked. In the swim you swim with the dolphins , interact a lot and get the ride of your life with a foot push. Well worth every penny. My DW is going along with them as an observer for a small fee; can't remember how much. You can not arrange this through Disney you have to do this on your own. Go to www.dolphinencounters.com for all the info. Watch out they fill up fast!:earsboy:

This is just my 2 cents, but I didn't think the encounter was worth the $$$$.

First of all, my kids were right in the middle of the counselor led treasure hunt on Castaway Cay when we were called away to go to the encounter. They were disappointed to have to leave the treasure hunt!

Then, like someone said -- you stand on the platform and the dolphins kind of swim by and you can pet them, etc. For our family of 5 (at the time) it cost quite a bit.

This time we will definitely skip it.

BTW, we did the encounter when we were on the Big Red Boat in 1995. Maybe its better today, but it sounds the same from reading the description that was posted above.

Thanks all to the comments. They have been very helpful. Seems that, for the price, it may not be worth the money to do the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter. We're from Baltimore and have a super aquarium here. As a matter of fact, my son was able to get in the water (at his birthday party at the aquarium) and feed, kiss, teach tricks to the dolphin at the Baltimore Aquarium. Since it was his 6th birtday (and we paid a fortune to have his party at the aquarium), he was the guest of honor... It was great. Sounds like the same sort of thing, but I have a family of 6 and I haven't been convinced the Blue Lagoon is the way to go. I have tried to book the Dolphin Swim at Nassau (not Disney), but unfortunately, I was notified today that they are currently at a standstill, waiting for lab test results to come back and the vets to give the ok to resume operations. Let's wish those dolphins luck! And thanks again for all the replies.
