I always ask my best questions here. I have never had a bladder infection before and wondered if anyone out there knows the symptoms? I feel like I have to pee and pain on one side and pain in back of one side. Are these the symptoms? Thanks

A nice resource here.

Symptoms of bladder infections may include:

A burning sensation when urinating; this is the most common sign of a bladder infection.
Frequent urge to urinate.
Passing only small amounts of urine at a time despite the urge to urinate.
Urine that is cloudy or bloody with a strong, foul odor.
Bladder spasm.
In the elderly, lethargy and/or mental confusion; these may be signs of a more serious urinary tract infection.
A fever or chills; this may mean the infection has gone into the kidneys.

When I worked in the ER most symptoms people complained about
Urine frequency
Back pain
Burning w/urination
Fever
Abd pain
Fever
Strong odor
Dark or blood in urine

As someone who has suffered from Kidney Stones several times, you describe exactly how mine begin.
If your symptoms haven't been around too long and assuming it's a tiny stone, you may be able to avoid a full blown attack if you push lots and lots of fluids asap!!

(Of course I have no idea if it's actually a kidney stone for sure.)

Best of luck to you, cuz those suckers hurt:headache:

Try googling and looking at the symptoms.

I have had them before or at least I think I have. Each time it was a weekend and I had no desire to go to urgent care. I drank water, water, water, and the symptoms disappeared by the time Monday rolled around. The symptoms I had were:
frequent urge to "go"
blood in the urine

Kidney stones are a whole different thing altogether with a much more intense pain.

Good timing for this thread. I just did a test and it came up positive. You can buy the screening kits at Walmart. I was looking for the Yeast one and no one even has them anymore. Does anyone have an idea why?

ER nurse here: with one sided back pain and urinary symptoms you could have:
Kidney infection
Kidney stones
Or just a UTI and you could have pulled a muscle or something

I get UTIs quite often (a "side effect" of a medical condition I have) and I have NEVER had a fever with one. Even with the worst of them.

When I have an infection I get:
Burning when going
An urge to go all the time
The feeling that I can't empty my bladder

I also can't drink cranberry juice due to the same medical condition so that is out for me. On top of that, I have multiple issues that can cause the same symptoms so it's nearly impossible to know for sure without going in and having a urine test.

Burning, frequency, small amount of blood are common signs of a UTI. Flank/kidney pain and fever are more common with kidney infections. To the pp, can you take the cranberry tablets? Used to give them to my dog (frequent UTIs because he was diabetic) and they worked wonders.

My symptoms of UTI:

Frequent urge to urinate (and can't always go)
Burning sensation during urination (don't have this one every time)
Lower back pain
Lower abdominal pain

I have NEVER had a fever with a UTI, and I have it about once per year. I thought I had one last week, and my Dr. called in meds for me, but they haven't helped at all. The lower back pain is killing me. I think I might actually have pulled or torn something.

Hello and thanks. I went to doctor and took urine test. Some blood in urine but it was two days after my visitor so they weren't sure. Blood taken and everything was normal. So they figured it was a stone. I drank lots of water and back was better in the morning but bladder still achy. Felt better as day went on just tired now. Thanks again now to drink more water. Lol

Before my hysterectomy, I was very prone to bladder infections, usually in the days following my "friend" coming to visit. The first few times the dr. blamed the blood in the urine to that but, combined with my symptoms, eventually ended up putting me on UTI medication. So, if you don't feel better in a day or two, go back in again!

And I always got flu like symptoms: achy, tired, feverish(with no fever or low grade), back pain, frequent urination, etc.

Terri

I had frequent bladder infections for several years. They finally eased up a couple of years ago. A few times I also had pain in my lower back. The doctor said it was a sign that the infection was spreading to my kidney, and that the antibiotic would take care of it.
