BL Summer Challenge 2009

Happy Friday everybody!:cool1:
Thanks to Melanie for coaching this week and thanks to Jackie for coaching last week :thumbsup2

Friday's QOTD: What are you going to do today to keep yourself on track.

I am going to go out for lunch but we're going to Subway, where I know I can eat reasonably. Tonight I'm going to committ to 30minutes of exercise. Should be easy enough to spend 30minutes stepping watching football.
I had some stomach problems this morning, so I'll be doing my weigh in tomorrow.

Lisa - thanks for keeping the thread organized! Stay focused and you'll have your ribbon back soon.:thumbsup2

pjlla - it sounds like your kids like pizza too! What do you do for a breakfast pizza?:confused3

sahbushka - it sounds like your visit with your dad is going well. Its great that you can get some exercise in by walking together.:goodvibes

disney1990 - I'll mark you down as excused from the weigh in this week, since you've sort of reported in! ;) Have fun at the gym.

Good afternoon all . I am nearly at the end of my Weight-loss goal of 175 pounds. As of this week I weigh 179 pounds. after loosing 181 pounds last week. I hope to reach my goal within 2 weeks. I will be walking tomorrow morning before it rains tomorrow afternoon. Have a great weekend:thumbsup2

Congrats on being so close to your goal!:cheer2: I know you will be there in no time!

Sarah

So what does one need to do to be the coach for a week? I would be happy to take a week.

disney1990, would you like to coach for a couple of days on 8/21 and 8/22? We may need you again later, too, as sometimes real life interferes with our Dis life. :rotfl: Just let me know or PM.

Good job getting to the gym! It's nice when DH joins in. :goodvibes

Have a great evening, losers!

Hey everyone - Today I managed to talk myself out of going to lunch for something bad and ate what I had at work. I went shopping for those shorts I swore I wasn't going to buy- but had to or I'd be going bottomless at Disney, lol since none of my shorts fit.

I bought like 6 or 7 shorts at JC Penny's on my lunch break and then..............shh you don't want to hear this part.........DD17 and I went to the mall but she wanted to stop at Red Robins so I had a hamburger and fries (I know slap my hand) and then at the mall at the bookstore's Starbucks I had a chai frappachino (hey I left off the whip cream) and..........(ok I'm ducking) a red velvet cupcake (and we each had our own) -(I know slapping hands again). I was able to buy another 9 pairs of shortsat another Jc Penny's. I got such a great deal on the shorts. Each pair was $11 or under and I was able to use coupons and even use two coupons on the ones I bought in the evening. The coupons combined for both shopping trips was a savings of $40.00 and all shorts were around $160 total. That is pretty good I think. I also came home and took out all my new shirts I've been stashing away for vation and I only need to buy a few more and maybe get a pair of blue and white flip flops. I think finding shorts that fit and look pretty decent really took the pressure of this trip off me. I think I was worried I couldn't find anything....and thank goodness they are the shorter shorts, two years ago when I went on vacation I coudn't find shorter ones - it seems that year the longer shorts were in and that was all I could find. Being short, it wasn't as flattering for me. It made me look shorter and stockier.

Ok that fiasco is over. Moving on AGAIN......seems to be the story of my life, but the main thing is I don't give up and I keep working at it. I know how to do this and I know when I'm ready I'm always able to lose. I just have to get my mind in the right place again. I have lost over 10 pounds this challenge, so I guess even if I keep gaining and losing the same 3 pounds these days, at least I've been able to keep off the 10 pounds. I still have faith I can maybe I can get close to 159 before we leave.

Tommorrow we have a full day, DD17 has to be at her new job for a training video at 9am, and then at 11am she has a Cheerleading Youth Clinic that the girls are doing for the younger girls. Then DH and I are going to watch the Ugly Truth at the movies. I bought a package of Natural Indiana Popcorn -its a kettle corn and it only has 130 calories and it's great. I'll eat that and a water at the movies. Tomorrow my eating is going to be 100% on track - I can and will do it!

I'm going to do tomorrow's QOTD tonight just in case I don't get on till later.

Saturday's QOTD: What is your favorite salad that you make at home and what is your favorite homemade salad dressings.

One of my favorite salads is:

Lettuce (Spring mix, romaine or spinach), fresh cut strawberries, raw sunflower seeds, feta cheese - you can add chicken too

then add this dressing:
1 tablespoon olive oil, 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar, sea salt -blend with a fork until emulsified.

Other things I like to add to salads (olives, dulse (which is a seaweed), hemp seed, ground flax seeds, avocado, any nut, ginger (I grate it in the dressing or the salad), heart of palms or artichokes, shredded cabbage, shredded or matchstick carrots, shredded or matchstick zuchinni, shredded broccoli or cauliflower, fresh beets shredded or matchsticked, Kale, beet greens, etc.

Ok- enough of this book I'm writing, lol!

Good saturday morning everyone!!

Congrats to all who saw losses yesterday, and hugs to those who gained. We can't give up, just get back on track as soon as you can.
I am going to go back to my ww meeting this morning, and know I have gained back all i had lost since last fall. I am going to try and make some small changes over the next few weeks. Today I am going to start tracking my food, no matter how much or what I eat. Hoping that helps me eat a little better. I've been averaging some exercise about once a week, so realistically, I'm going to push for twice this week, and then 3 times. Baby steps. I remember what Pjlla said when my mom got sick, and that helped me so much to realize what I can control, and I know what I can control, and know if I eat better, and move more, I will feel so much better overall. My tight pants are also a good motivator. :rotfl:

Sounds like this challenge is going to continue, which is great for me. I start my vacation 8/21, and am doing several short trips, so I hope to check in in between. Plus, that gives me 4 weeks to make some changes.

Thank you so much to everyone who has been coaching. This is such a great group- so friendly and supportive, and welcoming to all who have strayed away and returned.

Well, apparently I enjoyed using my flex and activity points a little too yesterday and gained 2 pounds and consequently lost my 15 lb. ribbon. :sad2: So I've already exercised and will eat within my points to keep myself on track. Hopefully by my next weigh in, in two weeks, I will have lost and can regain my ribbon. It's happened to me before and it is pretty good motivation to get it back!
Sorry you had a gain this week, but you have such a positive attitude, you will see that gone in no time.

I am down a bit today (.8). Considering the movie popcorn I had this week, I am grateful! I am setting a personal goal to lose 2 pounds this week. Sometimes when I commit to something out loud, I stick to it better. So 2 pounds it is for me this week!! And I figured out I need to exercise 51 minutes per day, every day until the end of July to reach my July exercise goal. So far so good... I did an extra 20 minutes yesterday to give me a "cushion" and I did 53 minutes this morning.

Tomorrow will be tough (food-wise). It is DH's birthday and the kids and I are planning a "pizza" themed day (he got his big gift on Father's day, so we are just having a fun day). Breakfast pizza, out to lunch for pizza, homemade pizza for dinner, and homemade pizza "cookie" birthday cake!! (In case you didn't guess, he LOVES pizza!) I need to save every possible point for tomorrow!!

I hope you are all BIG LOSERS today!.........................P
congrats on your loss. That pizza day does sound like a challenge, but you are doing so awesome, you can handle it. Maybe add a salad pizza in the mix.

If you don't want to go to Martha's Vineyard try Nantucket. I biked it many years ago.
Thanks for the suggestion. I did check out some hotels in nantucket, but was a little shocked at the prices, nothing less than 350 a night. If we don't do martha's vineyard, may stay on the cape, and go to nantucket for the day.
Congrats on getting your cast off, and on having a trip planned with hubby.

.

I am so ready for our vacation next week. We have a place on Lake Okoboji in Iowa -- an ancestor of my husband's bought it in 1893 for $350. It is a funky, old place, fillled with castoffs from the farmhouse. Part of the house is still original, it has the wavy glass and all. It will be a big family week and the kids (an adults) have a great time.
.
Sounds like an awesome time, Lisa. How nice to have that home from your husbands family way back. It sounds so unique and I'm sure the kids have a blast. Have a wonderful vacation!!

Hi all -- I wish I could say that I have been having a good week, but I think I have crashed and burned. I find myself crying and eating. After being unemployed now for 6 months and having my daughter (my exercise partner) go out of town, everything seems to be weighing me down. I can't seem to get to the gym and everything I see, seems to make it into my mouth -- even if I have just gotten up from the table from dinner, I am looking for something to eat again. In addition, I just got a letter in the mail yesterday about a job I interviewed for with the Federal Government, and I didn't get it. I have been waiting to hear back on this job since February and I had such high hopes of getting it. I have never been unemployed for more than a week or so and I never expected that 6 months down the road I would be unable to find a job. I even offered to volunteer at the food bank and was turned down -- I just wanted to be able to do something that felt worthwhile. With no job, I have no money to do anything and I am just sitting at home feeling sorry for myself and eating. I am just so sad and don't know how to break out of this. I am going to go out in a bit and fax (yet another) resume. All vacation plans for 2009 have been canceled. I still have hope of getting a job so that I can take my granddaughters away in January. I don't expect anybody to have a miracle cure for what I am going through, but I just wanted to share it.
.
I am so sorry for all you are going through. :grouphug: It must be so tough, and depressing, but as pjlla said, you have control over some things, and maybe trying to make some baby steps, a little exercise, or say, no snacking at night, and you will start to feel better. I loved the quote in your siggie-
"Life is a Journey – remember to appreciate everyday -- be happy for this moment...this moment is your life" It really shows you have a positive and up beat attitude, and I'm sure it's hard right now to see the good things, but hang in there. I'm sending you prayers and good thoughts.

Have you ever dropped a dish while unloading the dishwasher causing it to shatter on the floor? Most people have. But what most people haven't done is continue to break the rest of the set of dishes just because that one plate slipped out of your hand. That would be absurd! So why would you use one small lapse in your weight-loss plan as an excuse to throw all your goals away?

Today is the last day of the week, and I have lots of little treats, but managed to stay within my points (I have used up activity points, but I figure that's what they are for). I really feel like going out to A&W for lunch, but I won't because I don't need it. This time, I want to lose weight more than I want the burger and fries.:thumbsup2
(typing it out makes sure I won't change my mind in the next hour before lunch)
Love that quote. I think I've broken a few "dishes" the past few weeks, but I think I'm ready to stop and get back on track. Nice thought about the burger and fries. I feel that way right now too, and I hope that will continue for more than an hour.

Saturday's QOTD: What is your favorite salad that you make at home and what is your favorite homemade salad dressings? I haven't made it in a while, but I used to make spinach salad, with dried cranberries, feta cheese, and walnuts, with a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. (from a jar)

Melanie, your salad sounds great. Thanks for coaching this week.

Have a great day everyone!!:)

I am going to go out for lunch but we're going to Subway, where I know I can eat reasonably. Tonight I'm going to committ to 30minutes of exercise. Should be easy enough to spend 30minutes stepping watching football.
I had some stomach problems this morning, so I'll be doing my weigh in tomorrow.

pjlla - it sounds like your kids like pizza too! What do you do for a breakfast pizza?:confused3

Hope your stomach is better. What kind of football are you watching this time of year? Does Canada have summer football?

For the breakfast pizza I top a crust with scrambled eggs, crumbled cooked bacon or sausage, and cheese. Usually I use a premade crust and soy sausage, but today I went all out! I used one of those Pillsbury crescent roll-type crusts and real bacon! I was going to make myself a tiny "light" pizza with scrambled egg whites on a half a Sandwich thin, but the real pizza looked SO good! I had one slice and it was delicious. I am counting it for 5 points.

We told DH for lunch we would take him anywhere with "pizza" in the name of the restaurant (Pizza Hut, Uno's Pizzeria, etc). Wherever we go, I plan on ordering a SALAD!! Dinner is going to be homemade pizza with a new easy crust recipe I got on allrecipes.com and there is a DOUBLE dessert. The kids wanted to make DH a cookie/candy pizza, but DH had requested my apple crisp. So I am letting the kids make the candy pizza and I am also making him an apple crisp pizza on a thin pizza crust. Not sure how it will turn out, as it is a total experiment. I made DH a cute card that looks like a pizza (thank goodness for my scrapbooking supplies).

Off to work on the other pizzas and to get in today's workout!!.............P

Thanks to everybody for all the support. I had a good day yesterday and today and going good as well. My eating is back under control and I have been back to the gym. I just let everything get to me at one time and it overwhelmed me. Again, thanks bunches!!

Saturday's QOTD: What is your favorite salad that you make at home and what is your favorite homemade salad dressings.

My favorite salad is Caesar salad with chicken. I like to use the low cal or fat free Caesar, because I know the "real" stuff has too many calories. I really don't have a favorite homemade dressing. But, I do like the red wine vinegar & olive oil dressing that you can buy.

disney1990, would you like to coach for a couple of days on 8/21 and 8/22? We may need you again later, too, as sometimes real life interferes with our Dis life. :rotfl: Just let me know or PM.

Good job getting to the gym! It's nice when DH joins in. :goodvibes

Have a great evening, losers!

I can definitely coach on 8/21 & 8/22; just tell me what I need to do and I'm there!

Saturday QOTD: My favorite salad at home is spinach salad with a little low fat shredded cheese, McCormick Salad Toppings, and fat free Western dressing. I made one before lunch today, and ended up going back for seconds! I don't make any homemade dressing. After eating nothing but CS at WDW for 3 days, I'm totally craving fruits and veggies!

I went to WW this morning and was up 3.4# thanks to vacation and my TOM. I'm going to do my best to stay OP this week and hopefully most of it will be gone next week.

Popping in before I go have a nap!
I did my weigh in this morning and it was a gain of 0.9lbs. I'm going to listen to pjlla and make sure not to eat all my activity points this week. We went to the farmer's market this morning, and got stocked up on some fresh veggies and bread. Then for lunch the kids and I had raw cauliflower & carrots with some fresh bread. I had 6points worth of bread and it was delicious: cinnamon walnut, cheddar & bacon, and rosemary garlic.

Pjlla - up here we have CFL instead of NFL and our season runs from July to November. Its very similar to NFL (its not arena ball) but there's differences. Bigger field, 3 downs instead of 4, 12 guys on the field instead of 11, no fair catch rule and a 20 second play clock instead of 40 or 45 in NFL. That's probably more of an answer than you were looking for :lmao:

Yup, it was, but that's okay!! I don't follow any sports (other than my kids' activities), but I was just curious.

I did okay for our "pizza" lunch today. We went to Pizzeria Uno and I ordered the two lobster salad sliders with a side caesar salad instead of fries (salad ordered with dsg on the side). The waitress was great and brought me a totally deconstructed salad (everything on the side) and I was able to just dump the lobster salad from the slider rolls onto the salad greens and then I used the croutons and dsg very sparingly and skipped the cheese. The lobster was VERY LIGHTLY dressed with mayo.... I figured the entire salad was probably 6 points. I drank seltzer with lemon. But they heard me say it was DH's birthday and brought him a cookie sundae birthday dessert (totally wrecking our plan for the cookie pizza for tonight... oh well). I did have a few spoonfuls of the cookie (no ice cream).

I ate reasonably well at the movie.... I controlled my popcorn portion and M&M portion (which I had pre-measured at home), but I kind of blew it with the Twizzlers. But again, I drink a full liter of seltzer with lemon that I brought along, so not terrible.

We may end up skipping the planned homemade pizza for dinner, since everyone is still full from lunch and movie popcorn. That will bring us straight to the cookie pizza "birthday cake" and the apple crisp pizza. But I'm sure I won't do too much damage, as I am not even hungry.

We are heading off to Cape Cod again tomorrow morning to bring DD to spend some more time with her cousin and then DS and I will take off on Monday for Maine for our ahead-of-schedule Mother/Son time. With DD gone, it seemed like a good idea to move our trip up a bit. But the weather report is not promising, so we are not going to camp, but stay in a hotel. Not as much fun (to DS), but we will still have a great time, I'm sure!! We will be doing more restaurant eating, since we are not camping, but I'm reasonably sure that I will be able to stay in control.

Since we are staying in a hotel, I will be able to bring my laptop and will be able to keep up with things around here, so I'll be in touch next week with you all. Keep moving and eating healthy!........................P

Woo hoo - congrat's on being so close to goal! !

I know about the tight pant's motivator - Glad your going back to WW's. That is a great way to get back on track!!! Owning up is always what helps me get back on track. As soon as I own up I can move on :)

Very cool how your working the "pizza's" into your points!!

Thanks to everybody for all the support. I had a good day yesterday and today and going good as well. My eating is back under control and I have been back to the gym. I just let everything get to me at one time and it overwhelmed me. Again, thanks bunches!!

Way to go on the getting the eating back under control and getting back to the gym - woo hoo!

Welcome back - I know when I come back I'm sure I'll be craving fruits and veggies too. 3.4 isn't too bad. Just stay on track and I know at the end of the week it will be gone. I find 3-4 pounds of vacation weight is just water and comes off easily. It's the things past the 4 pounds that I have trouble losing.

Popping in before I go have a nap!

Sounds like you are being thoughtful and really making this work with your program. Your doing great at staying in control.

Sunday's QOTD:
What are 10 things that make you happy?

For me:
1. My family 2. My cats, 3. sleeping with the windows open and having a cool breeze 4. Birds chirping
5. Gardens full of fresh organic produce 6. Cat's purring
7. Trips to Disney 8. Any vacation 9. Camping with my family 10. Hot Air Ballooning

I'm sitting here having a huge bowl of organic strawberries, organic blueberries and organicnectarines with homemade raw organic almondbutter.

I'm happy the dis seems faster this morning. Yesterday it was painfully slow trying to do anything.:headache:

Its been a relaxing weekend for us, but I managed to stay in my points yesterday evening with 2 small daiquiris :cool1:

pjlla - how did your apple crisp pizza turn out?

I didn't get yesterday's question of the day answered, so here it goes.
for salads, I like an asian sesame ginger dressing but I buy that. I like to add some crunchy stuff to my salads (asian noodles, almond slices, dried cranberries or dried pineapple) and cabbage! Yum!

MelanieC - where do you go hot air ballooning?

Sunday's QOTD:
What are 10 things that make you happy?

1-family
2-reading a good book in a bubble bath
3-holding a sleeping baby
4-when my girls want me to sing them lullabies (DD7 wanted it last night, and it so nice to see her name song and Baby Mine among others)
5-any vacation
6-watching a movie and doing cross-stitch
7-the annual camping trip with my parents (and the fact that DH doesn't like it, but does it because its important to me ;) ) and its coming next weekend!
8-coming home from work when DH and the kids have been home and done some cleaning. Its so cool to walk in the door to DD4 and DD7 excited to show me what they've cleaned up. I know it won't always be this way. :lmao:
9-sleeping in on the weekend
10-date nights with DH ;);)

Good morning, losers!

Saturday's QOTD: What is your favorite salad that you make at home and what is your favorite homemade salad dressings.

I was so busy reading all the delicious salad ideas that I forgot to answer the QOTD yesterday!

I love a salad from Mexico the Cookbook that uses romaine lettuce, toasted pine nuts and parmesan cheese with a garlic/mustard dressing. It is delicious but I haven't had it since I started WW so I don't know how much of a point buster it is . . . ;)

Sunday's QOTD:
What are 10 things that make you happy?

For me:
1. My family 2. My pets 3. Hanging out with DH and DS anywhere
4. A Disney trip 5. Planning a Disney trip 6. Taking a boat ride on Lake Coeur d'Alene 7. Hanging out in the hammock at Lake Okoboji 8. Seeing quail with their babies in my backyard (or any of our other local wildlife).
9. Reading a good book 10. Listening to a favorite song.

This was a great question, Melanie!

Shannon, I think fruity cocktails are a good way to get your fruit, earn points for the COW and enjoy yourself! :thumbsup2

Have a great day, losers! :goodvibes

Saturday's QOTD: What is your favorite salad that you make at home and what is your favorite homemade salad dressings.

My favorite Salad is A Taco Salad. My mom uses Dorritos. Shreaded Cheddar Cheese Chop Lettuce Tomotoes and Turkey Ground beef. The dressings we use are French or Ranch Dressing.

My favorite salad is Boston lettuce, dried cranberries, slivered almonds, cucumbers, edamame, and blue cheese dressing. We don't really make dressing at home, we let Paul Newman take care of us.

Maria :upsidedow

MelanieC - where do you go hot air ballooning?

9-sleeping in on the weekend

Why didn't I think of sleeping in - that is one of the best, although none of that here this weekend.

The first time I went hot air ballooning was in Orlando - it was awesome.

I actually sometimes go out with a team here and help set up, chase and put down. We all take turns going up with the pilot, he does it for fun and it's awesome! Unfortunately I haven't gotten to go since DH went to Afghanistan last year - I got so busy and in a rut. I need to work on that - I miss it.
