BL Summer Challenge 2009

Good morning, losers!

A big :welcome: to Julianna07 and another big :welcome: to Princess CKL. Sounds like you have already PM'd your weigh in to LuvBaloo. Your first weighins will be on Friday, 6/19. Peggy Jo lots of room here for you too if you would like to officially join us. :thumbsup2

Saturday QOTD: What is your favorite healthy OP meal to eat out?

I haven't been eating out since starting WW. I know Applebee's has the WW meals and I will try those since I am sure the oriental chicken salad I like is probably a point buster! I did use the pasta cheat sheet on the WW site to calculate a heathly pasta dinner and it worked out well. I just had to keep saying "no bread, please" about a dozen times! :rotfl:

Sunday QOTD: What is your favorite cooking item that you use to cook or make healthy meals. What is a cooking item you are wanting?

My favorite cooking item would be fresh herbs from my herb pot in my backyard. I have chives and basil right now. I hope to add some thyme and sage soon. It is fun to just walk out and chop a little of what you need and you can't beat the fresh flavor. If you would talking about utensils or something, then it would be the crockpot. I love that thing but need to learn some healthier options.

I found some tahini, MelanieC, so will be making your hummus soon. :cutie:

This looks like a very motivating group and I would love to join up. I have been struggling for so long and can't take it anymore. I am a Weight Watcher but struggle daily with tracking and eating within my points. I've been with WW for 2 years and have lost 30 pounds but I have a WAYS to go to my goal weight. For now I am shooting for 10% at a time. I'll PM my current WW weight from Sat (which is my usual weigh in day).

I was reading some past posts about sparkpeople and I also signed up this evening as well. Here's to getting rid of the next 10%!

I like sparkpeople, too, and I have to do things in small goals or it is just too overwhelming. I just passed a lot of my initial goals, 1st 5 and 10 pounds, five percent, double digits to final goal, and am so close to 15 pounds and 10%, that I should be there in no time. It really helps to have smaller, realistic goals.

Pamela, nice job on the dress. I am sure that you will look beautiful!

Kathy, sounds like graduation was fun and your Mom enjoyed herself. I am glad that you are remembering to take care of Kathy while you take care of everyone else!

Sounds like we could all use a little heading in the right direction and forgiving ourselves for our mistakes. Here is a quote from Sparkpeople that might be helpful to some of us now:

Remembering the good times and learning from the bad.Memory can be used for good or for evil. If you use your past as a source of learning, it's worth remembering. If, however, all you do is mull over your mistakes and punish yourself for your failures, it's a waste of time. Rehashing failure can paralyze you in mortal fear of making another mistake, which, of course, just makes the feeling worse and practically guarantees future letdowns. The key to making meaningful changes is to pay more attention to the future than to the past. Have you ever noticed that the best athletes also have the shortest and most selective memories? Instead of dwelling on a missed shot or a flawed dive, they concentrate on making corrections and getting the next one right. It's as if the failed attempt never happened. It's forgotten and they don't fear trying again. If you mess up, even in an epic, life-altering way, work hard to leave it behind and concentrate on the possibilities yet to come. Tomorrow is much brighter when it's not smeared with a fixation on yesterday.

So for those of us who strayed from our good heathy habits this week, forgive yourself, learn from your mistake, and spend that energy looking forward instead of kicking yourself for being human.

Have a great, OP day!

Great quote, Lisa! I saved that one.
Welcome to our newest "newbies!" :cheer2:
It's a stressful day at work, but I'm determined to be on plan and try and relax. I've been doing better lately with not getting overly stressed out about work - or at least letting things go once the work day is done.

Have a great, fit day, everyone!

Friday QOTD: What is your favorite Fruit & favorite veggie?

So, are tomatoes a fruit or a vegetable? :lmao: I'll call it my favorite veggie, along with zuchinni. My favorite fruit - hard to pick one - they all end in 'berry' though!

I am thrilled to say I had a good weight loss this week after a really hard week last week. Down 4.1 pounds from last Friday to this Saturday (couldn't weigh yesterday - long story.)

I had set a mini goal for myself to lose 30 pounds by the time we went to Disney. So far, I've lost 27.5! I need to lose 2.5 by Friday to meet my goal - it's possible!

Wow that's a great lose and so very close to your goal. I know you can reach that goal by friday.

I too am losing weight and thought I'd pop on to check you guys out. I see my lovely sis is here - HEY SIS!!!! And I'm having a little "trouble" getting and staying back on plan... I've got 3 months to sail and DO NOT want to stabilize here... ARGHHH.

So, I'm going to catch up on the thread and see if I get motivated...

and just cuz - my favorite fruit is banana's but I love all of them! Veggie - hmm that's hard - I'd have to say romaine - because I really love salads - but asparagus, green beans (french cut) are really high up there and I am probably one of the few who DOES like brussel sprouts! ? you ask?

Hi Peggy, nice to see you here.

Saturday QOTD: OP Meal Out?
Chili's Guiltless Grill Carne Asada Steak. really good, comes with steamed veggies and I also had a cup of black beans. If I recall off the top of my head the steak is 7 points plus 1 point for the black beans.

Sunday QOTD: Fave kitchen gadget?
Can't say as I really have one.

Sounds like we could all use a little heading in the right direction and forgiving ourselves for our mistakes. Here is a quote from Sparkpeople that might be helpful to some of us now:

Have a great, OP day!

Thanks for sharing, I really needed this one today. We spent the weekend in Monterey and I did not eat OP. We have a favorite Pizza place there, Gianni's, and we ate there 3 times over the weekend. Yes we really love it that much. (we can't find pizza this good at home) But the weekend was awesome. We spent sat at the aquarium and spent sunday with DIS friends who came down from San Jose to spend the day together. And today is a new day, the weekend is over and I'm back on program. And it is a nice feeling to put the weekend behind me, not feel any guilt about it and be positivily motivated.

Monday QOTD:

Are you in tune with how your body reacts to foods? Do you listen to your body for cue's it gives you?

I was listening to Jillian Michael's podcast's this weekend (making up for the weeks I haven't listened) and she was talking about people not being in tune with how their bodies feel when they eat certain foods.

This got me to thinking that I really don't pay attention. You hear all the time about people being allergic to certain things like dairy, gluten, etc. I've always thought - those things don't apply to me...........but there are times when I come back from lunch out and my stomach is bloated, swollen, etc. and I really have no idea why.

I really think I want to pay better attention to how my body responds to certain foods.

Morning all. Hope everyone is having a great op day! I am on WW and have been staying exactly on my target points every day so I decided to break it up and have a high point day yesterday. My dh and I went to the new Sonic in town as neither of us has ever been to one and he really wanted to go. I purposefully ordered a lot of food and had my high point day. I used 17 of my weekly points but it was such a large unhealthy meal and I had a hard time sleeping last night because I just didn't feel good, ya know? Anyway, I hope the plan to shake it up works because I would really like to see some bigger losses!

Have a great one!

Sarah

Good Thursday afternoon. I am running short on time today but will post the resuults from COW 2 tomorrow. I have to get showered and got to NAtional Honor Society Induction at my school tonight.

But I did want to list the new COW for the up soming week.

Sometime this weekend please pm your COW 3 points to me.

Did I miss the COW 2 results?

Thanks,
Sarah

Monday QOTD:

Are you in tune with how your body reacts to foods? Do you listen to your body for cue's it gives you?

I think I am in some respects. Like yesterday I had a huge meal and right now my stomach is feeling icky and bloated. I also could tell last night because my ring was/is tighter on my finger so I know there is some salt/water retention. And my gums get sore when I eat walnuts. Besides that, I need to learn to listen to my body's signals of hunger and full.

Thanks for sharing that quote. That's very helpful!
I have been writing down my food for the last week, but was busy so never got it entered in WW. Today I threw out all my little notes with the food on it. And am just starting fresh.

Unfortunately, I decided to help myself to some Girl Guide cookies this morning and ate 13points worth of cookies, which isn't the best thing to do. So today will use up some of my flex points. I have now written on the box of cookies what the points value is so I will stop at 2 cookies, instead of 8.

Monday QOTD: Are you in tune with how your body reacts to foods? Do you listen to your body for cue's it gives you?

I am working on this. I sometimes am enjoying what I'm eating, so I eat until I'm way past being full. Or munching while I'm bored, and not even hungry. I'm getting much better at just stopping.

Monday QOTD:

Are you in tune with how your body reacts to foods? Do you listen to your body for cue's it gives you?

Funny you ask this. I have noticed that I definitely feel an uncomfortable degree of "fullness" after certain meals, even if I didn't eat an unusual amount. I never thought about the fact that it could be WHAT I was eating as opposed to HOW MUCH. Definitely fats bother my stomach much more than they used to. I had a half of a small fries from Wendy's on Friday night. I haven't eaten fries in many months. The rest of my food that evening was very low fat (plain chicken, plain veggies, fat free frozen yogurt) and while I certainly eat my fair share, I felt disportionately bloated that evening and the next morning. I think it was the fat in the fries.

I learned the HARD WAY last T. giving that I definitely need to watch my fats and my portions. I overate lots of unusual, fattening foods (of course) and felt MISERABLE for almost a week! It seemed like it took that long for all of that food to fully work its way out of my system. In the meantime I felt bloated, overly full, gassy, and bloated. Enough to teach me to NEVER eat like that again!

Thanks for asking..............P

Please bear with me -- I figured I'd better try to learn to multiquote before my coaching week in July...so some of you are the lucky posts! :lmao:

That is so interesting! I feel nauseous when I eat artichokes. I have no idea why, I just stopped eating them as they seem to be the only trigger. :confused3

I'm with you -- I had pizza and then felt gassy like there was no tomorrow. It just went on and on. I also seem to be carb-sensitive. If I eat a bunch of carbs, I start to be ridiculously hungry -- then jittery if I don't eat. It's just best to avoid :thumbsup2

Ok, just three days until we leave for our Universal vacay. I keep going back and forth on how to handle our arrival lunch in Orlando. A part of me wanted to hit the Old Country Buffet, but that seems like getting things off to a hefty start :lmao:. We ate at Denny's last year, and that wasn't a winner either. I need something that says 1) I'm on vacation 2) I still eat like there will be food tomorrow. I'm thinking maybe Steak & Shake? Open to ideas -- anything on I-Drive!

Sunday QOTD: What is your favorite cooking item that you use to cook or make healthy meals. What is a cooking item you are wanting?

I love to use A Crockpot to fix healthy foods like marrinated chicken. wish i had something to cook Rotisire Chicken in

Hello!

Since there are so many of us on WW and online, I was wondering if anyone was on the new WW beta community? I am corinnak over there as well. It's gotten pretty nice over there lately with blogs and status updates and all.

On to the QOTD - I only missed about 10,000 of them! I have been loving reading everyone else's this week, though.

Saturday QOTD: What is the biggest obstacle to your weight loss and how will you address it?

The hardest thing is when things change - travel, guests, the kids are out of school, the kids are in camp etc. Just about any change in routine has the potential to throw off my food or exercise plan. I am doing pretty well at this point in thinking ahead about the changes and getting a plan B or C in my head before I'm in the situation, but it is still always hard.

Sunday QOTD: If you could have any role at WDW, what would it be?

Some of you may know of my interest in the technical aspects of theater. I would love to run the light board for one of the shows - Fantasmic, B&TB, Lion King, AI.

MONDAY QOTD: What is your favorite "bad food"? Do you stay away from it all together or do you find a way to work it in?

Chocolate Ice Cream is my Kryptonite. It is safer not to keep it in the house, or if it is in the house, in the freezer downstairs. Otherwise, I have been known to grab a clean spoonful out of the carton throughout the day. :scared1: I do have it sometimes, out in the world - usually soft serve, usually twisted with vanilla. I just plan for it. And I have had a McDonald's vanilla soft serve cone about once a week with my kids all during my weight loss. It seems to work for now.

Tuesday QOTD: What is your favorite non Disney vacation?

We just had a great trip to Virginia. Would have loved a few more days at Skyland on Skyline Drive for hiking and exploring. D.C. was also great and we would love more time there as well! But I would have to say that Massachusetts is my favorite non-Disney trip. I've still got friends out there, so that is fun, and there are so many things to do in Boston and surrounding area that we could be happy and busy there for weeks.

Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite "activity"?

Ha ha - I love the way "activity" is in quotes. In spite of my continued "Athena" phisique and the fact that I am not built for speed, I do love running a lot. It's good for my body, mind and soul.

Friday QOTD: What is your favorite Fruit & favorite veggie?

Favorite fruit is currently Nectarines - I think this varies depending on the time of year! The Nectarines are SO good right now.

Saturday QOTD: OP Meal Out?
I'm a vegetarian, so it's sometimes a challenge to get an OP vegetarian meal. My favorites include:

#1 Tucci Bennuch: Whole grain pasta with roasted vegetable sauce
Runners Up:
Subway: Gardenburger Sub, no cheese or onions, with spicy mustard & apples
Panera: You Pick 2 with Greek Salad, dressing on the side and vegetable or black bean soup.
Olive Garden: Minestrone Soup, Salad (dressing on the side)and half a breadstick
Burger King: Veggie Burger, no cheese, no mayo with apples on the side

In general, it works well to split an entree with DH and each get our own small salad when there are less than optimal options.

Sunday QOTD: Fave kitchen gadget?

Oh man, I love so many of them. I'll second the George Foreman Grill - I felt dumb buying one as a vegetarian, but it has been great. Cooks great gardenburgers and veggie dogs but also makes wonderful grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids, and is wonderful for portobello mushrooms and asparagus as well!

Runner up to my little seed grinder (it is a commandeered small coffee grinder, never used for coffee) - it's been seeing a lot of action grinding delicious flax seeds for me lately!

Monday QOTD: Are you in tune with how your body reacts to foods? Do you listen to your body for cue's it gives you?

I am also working on this. I have definitely noticed which foods slow down the works and which speed things along recently. As well as which foods cause a little indigestion. I am getting better at listening for the cue to "Stop eating already, you crazy lady!!!"

:welcome: sdchickie! Please be sure and PM your starting weight to our weightkeeper, LuvBaloo. Your first weigh in will be Friday, June 19th. You may want to check out the sticky at the top of the WISH boards for important info about our challenge. Also, p. 1, post 12 has info to get to the COW (Challenge of the Week) a fun way to build healthy habits. Oh, yeah, grab a clippie, too. What is your Halloween costume?

:welcome: TiggersPal! Thanks for checking us out and we hope that you decide to stay. A friend of Jackie's is a friend of ours. ;) You are one of the few people I've met who like brussel sprouts -- DH calls them Barbie doll cabbage. Sounds like you and Jackie are both working hard to get ready for your upcoming cruise. Good luck! And did you get your Palo reservations?

Have a great day losers!
We both got lucky and got all our requests...but don't tell anyone on our thread, some people are very upset they didn't... shhhhh. I love the "Barbie's cabbage" title - your DH is funny!

:welcome: to our Newbies who have PM'd me already!

Julianna07 and sdchickie!

And :welcome: to TiggersPal (aka Jackie's sister) who popped in to check us out!
Thanks - I have to catch up on what you guys do here and what the requirements are - I haven't had time and I'm leaving for NC on Thursday but I'm going to check it out now! Good luck everyone on a good week!
Are you guys twins? You look like the same person in your avatars.

Have a wonderful day everyone!:)
No we aren't but my other sis Di and Jackie are always told that! Jackie is older - I guess I'm not aging very well.... sniff sniff but then again Jackie did say that photo of her was 7 years old - so maybe I don't need to dive into a sea of despiration quite yet... :rotfl2::thumbsup2

Maria! I can't believe it's here so soon!!!

Mind you, I haven't been there, but if I were choosing a place for lunch, I'd go to Sweet Tomatoes.

"At Sweet Tomatoes, for one great low price, you can have fresh salads, soups, pastas, muffins and desserts. As much or as little as you like. Sweet Tomatoes. Eat Well. Live Better.

* Hours of operation: Sun - Thu: 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Fri & Sat: 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m
* Type: Buffet
* Dining Option: Lunch, Dinner, Take Out, Restaurant Self Standing
* Dress code information: Casual
* Parking information: Free
* Handicap Accessibility"

I've got a funny story for you regarding a Ponderosa (cause there's one of those on I-Drive as well, and I don't need much of an excuse to drag this one out). It was back in high school and we were finishing up at the Ponderosa salad bar. I went up to get a little dessert and considered the chocolate mousse and the pink mousse but ultimately went with some yellow mousse. I sat down at the table and took a big bite of the yellow mousse - except it wasn't mousse at all. It was whipped margarine.

Did I miss the COW 2 results? Thanks,
Sarah

Nope, donac, was having computer problems over the week-end and it is the end of the school year so it is a busy time for her. I am sure she will get them posted for us when she can. I'll be looking for your name on the list! :hippie:

Isn't it amazing what we learn when we stop and listen to our bodies? I ate more than my fair share last night -- pot roast in the crock pot -- and when I was done I was like, why did you do that to yourself? :confused3 That is why I like WW because it helps you to pick healthier things and you just feel better when you were done. That mind/body connection was very haywire but it is getting better -- can you hear me now?!? :rotfl:

Please bear with me -- I figured I'd better try to learn to multiquote before my coaching week in July...so some of you are the lucky posts! :lmao:

Have a great time on your vacation! And it looks like you got the multi-quote thing down -- must have been those great instructions full of TMI you received . . . :rolleyes1

I am getting better at listening for the cue to "Stop eating already, you crazy lady!!!"

:rotfl:

Thanks for the tip on WW beta site. I will check it out. My name on WW is 1313harbor -- pixie dust for anyone who can tell me what is at that address . . . pirate:

Have a great, OP day losers!

Jackie and Peggy Jo I'm glad that you got your Palo reservations. :cool1:

Peggy Jo, I hope that you decide to join us. This is a nice group of people all doing what you guys are doing -- getting healthy for Disney and for themselves! :goodvibes

Fries do it to me too, but I think for me it's the OIL they use... I've even had a "reaction" to fast food places because they don't clean and change their oil up. Iodine reaction... $1,200 in the emergency room later...

As for the QOTD - I have to admit I don't ALWAYS listen, there are times when I'm emotionally eating and I feel full but not "SATISFIED" so the binging continues... however lately I've had so many stomach issues, bloating, gas, pain - that I know there is something else going on - which I'm having to go thru serious of things to check out. However, I am really starting to think it's tied to hormones and my ovaries / etc. Seriously it's totally cyclical (sp?) and one week out of the month I feel like crap. My cycle is pretty much stopped at this point so it's hard to tell - gotta get to the gyno... I know TMI!!!

I lost 2.6 last week! It was such a nice boost after maintaining for forever.

Monday QOTD: I try to. I am currently having some severe abdominal issues that I've posted about elsewhere. I can never tell if it is directly related to food or something else (undergo an endoscopy/colonoscopy next week). The frustrating part is the same thing one day will be fine but the next day will be terrible. I've only been able to figure out one or two things that are definitely off limits.

Monday QOTD: Are you in tune with how your body reacts to foods? Do you listen to your body for cue's it gives you?

I've been trying to listen. "The little voice" talks very softly when I am eating things "IT" wants. "Good Julia, eat your veggies and fruit" Though it screams at me if it's food that it not so good for me " YEAH JULIA YOU WANT THAT DONUT GO GET IT! EAT IT ALL! EAT IT!!!" Then I have to fight it down saying no I don't need it or want it or give in and get it. Temptation is hard to overcome in the early stages especially when you are not equipped with healthy snacks. I have learned to keep healthier snacks on hand at ALL times. I don't like when my "little voice" yells at me.

I did really badly this week. I started out all motivated, like I can do this and I’m gonna eat right and exercise, blah blah blah, but it never really materialised.

I gained a pound which is really annoying and even though I was motivated to get it right this week, it seem to be going the same way as the last one. I need to get back on track. This is about the point I usually give up and get back to my old bad habits. I need to decide now that it is time I take control.

I now weigh 202 pounds. I haven’t even hit my silver 7 yet. I need to get down to 199 to get that. Then, to hit my 5% goal, I need to get down to 196.

I wish I knew how to transfer the motivation in my head to my body but nothing seem to work for me at the moment.

Last night, my hubby and I ate a really nice, filling, healthy dinner, but then 2 hours later, we pigged out on crisps (chips), chocolate and all manner of things. I looked over at the table of shame and got onto my Wii Active, but no doubt I will gain again this week.

I am going on an activity weekend so maybe that will motivate me to be healthier.

Hang in there. Try to take it one day, one hour and one minute at a time. You can do this :)

Good morning everyone. Hope you all had a great on program weekend. I did not. I had a nice weekend, just not on track. Went totally out of control and into bad habits at my nephew's graduation party. It was a very emotional day, with my mom realizing this would most likely be her only grandchild that she sees graduate, but she went to the graduation, and some old friends came to the party, and she had a wonderful day, full of love and laughter, and it was beautiful. Today is a new day, and I am deciding right now, that i need to make time for myself, and really concentrate on taking care of me too. I love this thread and the support and inspiration I get here, so I'm going to concentrate on coming on here more often, and also I'm going to start journalling again today. I know if I'm eating healthy, and on track, that will help me deal with the stress of life. I'm up 2.2 this morning, and if I can stick within my points, I can see most of that gone by friday.

That is just water weight..........get back on track and it will be gone in no time!

Hi, I'm a kindergarten teacher and I work part time at my local DS. I am going to WDW at the end of July and would like to lose 10lbs by then. My big goal though is to lose a total of 75 lbs before a Disney Cruise June 2010. Can I join your group, please!
Ck

:welcome: Absolutely you can join - :) You can do it !!

I'm 'refocusing' this week. Had too many meals out last week and too many days of not tracking on WW on line. This is how bad habits slip back in. So, I'm signing off and moseying into the kitchen to pack up my lunch and make some breakfast!

.

How did your day go - great job for refocusing :)

I found some tahini, MelanieC, so will be making your hummus soon. :cutie:

Yeah - I can't wait to hear how you like it!!

Great job on not getting overly stressed.

Great positive attitude - way to go :)

Sarah

Having a high point day works for me often. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

I used to write the points on boxes back when I did WW's - it really helps!!

Maria :upsidedow

How exciting - have a great vacation!!!!

OMG that is so funny!!!! I bet you can never look at a thing of whipped margarine the same!!

Way to go on the 2.6 pounds - woo hoo!

I hope the endoscopy/colonoscopy goes well next week. I hope they find out what is wrong!
