BL challenge ~ BLUE TEAM ~ wk1

Hello Blue Team...I'm a late arriver. I'm TammyNC (Tammy) and have been away from the WISH board for a long time but it is time to come back. I turned 39 last month, married to a wonderful man for 18 years now, 2 children - DD -15 (turns 16 in Dec and will be getting her license...has her permit and doing very well so far) and DS - 14. We just started our 7th year homeschooling both kids. I find one of my biggest challenges is being at home near the kitchen (we school in our family/dining room which is not separated from the kitchen).

I have been to WW a couple of times in the past and lost weight and once was so close to goal, just can't remember what happened. I'm not going back to the meetings rights now, just following what I have learned and applying it to myself. Over the past few weeks, I have started making changes...getting my water in daily and watching and recording what I eat.

I'm glad to be a part of the blue team and will do my best during the challenges and weekly WI. Will post about the current challenge a little later.

Also noticed that my tag needs to be changed...the WISH BL Red Team tag must have been from a long time ago...I honestly don't even remember when that was.

Hello there! My name is Melissa, or moredisneyplease, and I'm 31, DW to a great man, and mommy to a 3 year old boy and 9 month old boy. I never lost the baby weight from #1 and of course the pregnancy from #3 just added more fuel to that fire! I'm determined not to look like I'm still pregnant for my son's 1st birthday on December 13th!!!

Lets work hard together!!

***anyone else in the SoCal area?

Dianatlol, And another DCL cruiser... Hey, maybe I have to start thinking about another cruise, you all have me very interested!:cool2: You were very successful with Atkins, are you thinking of doing that again? And you said you were in the military? What branch? Thank you to you for all of your hard work and sacrifices. I appreciate it all!:flower3:

Yes, I will always do Atkins, Low Carb works very well for me. I feel amillion times better after about a week of getting 100% back on plan. It's hard when you have an 8 year old who has to have homemade cookies, I just love cookie dough.

I was in Regular Army Based in SC... many years ago! LOL

As far as these go......
1) Start carrying a water bottle around and drink throughout the day- 6 to 8 glasses is ideal
I drink about 100oz a day and 1 can of Diet Rite (sweetened with splenda)

2) Give yourself an extra hour in the grocery store. Spend the time looking at labels and serving sizes on your common food choices and find healthier items to replace them
Extra hour of shopping, OK! LOL I am always reading labels, my DD hates that!

3) Buy a pedometer. They range from $5-$20 usually or currently can be found in Wheaties boxes as the prize. You are supposed to take 10,000 steps a day.
Check! Done!

4) Locate and/or buy some fitness clothes. You need good shoes when starting a fitness regimen.
Check! Done! I bike ride and walk a lot with my DD Casey

5) Don’t stress. You have 15 weeks to get the hang of this and get closer to your goal, so don’t go gung-ho and burn yourself out.

Hi
This is my first time joining a weight loss on line.
I did WW a few years back and lost 36 lbs. on it.
Things were going great I knew all the people at the meetings, which I think helped. Hearing what everyone else was going thru was the biggest help to me. It made me feel like I didn't want to let any of them down.

Then they closed our center down. If we wanted the same leader I had to drive 20 minutes to get to her. Everyone kind of split up and went there own ways.

I drove the extra miles and the people meant nothing to me. I had come so far with the group I had that this new group did nothing for me to help me with my last 4 lbs. and then it happened............I quit and started putting the weight back on! :(

I would loose 10lb and then gain it back and this went on for a few years. Then last summer July of 2007, some friends of my decided to join WW, so I joined also.

I took it slow, last time I lost the weight FAST! I decided this time I didn't want to fail. I've been on WW for 1 year this past July and was down 20lbs. I was fine with that, it showed me that I could still enjoy myself, loose some weight and not feel like I was really on a diet at all.

Then we find out that we are going to be relocated. I have lived in the same State my entire life. This was big.

I am living in an apartment, waiting for our home to be finished before we are able to move in. Kids are all in school, active in their after school activies and doing great, which I am so thankfully for.

Then there is me. I'm alone, no friends and no neighborhood to meet people in. I have meet some really nice people thru the kids activies but it hasn't been long enough to call them a friend.

I haven't been to a WW meeting since July. I have gained 4lb. back from the 20 I lost, which I am soooo thankfully for.

I think following what WW teaches about "being in control" when life throws things at you really helped me to keep it in check.

So my plan is to attend a meeting this week and to start walking in the mornings after I take the kids to school. I need to loose another 20 lbs. plus the 4 that I gained back.

My goal is to have the weight off and be a life time memeber before our 25th anniversary cruise next July!

Thanks to anyone who read this entire post. I know it got kind of long! :)

Hi Blue Team!! I'm Christine, a 39 year old mother of 3 and wife for 15 years. I have between 50-61 lbs to lose. I blame popcorn. I LOVE me some popcorn and ice cream, so trying to figure out replacements that actually work. I'm a SAHM to my 3 year old bonus boy at the moment. I belong to a FitZone which I LOVE but my husband is a teacher and tennis coach so have a challenge getting there as often as I need to. I'll figure it out. As to the pre challenges:
1) got a water bottle, which hopefully will help me with my Diet Coke addiction!!
2)hitting the grocery store this morning and I'm happy to spend more time there because I'll be by MYSELF. I have been checking labels more lately for things like soy isolate, HFCS and partially hydrogenated blah, blah, blah for my kids.
3)Got one somewhere.....
4)Go em !
5) This is a good one b/c I really like to see results likety split. I'll try!
Thanks Blue Team!!!

Happy Saturday Biggest Losers!

I am so pleased to see everyone here! You can do this.

I believe in you!

:grouphug:

CSwan1, how romantic that your DH thought of getting married on vacation. That is just way too cool. Sounds like you are doing great with the prechallenge. OOOUUUUCHHH Those caffeine headaches sure hurt!:headache: I stopped drinking caffeine and I know what you are going through. Before you know it the headaches will be gone and your body will be so much healthier. WAY TO GO!:thumbsup2

leamom2princesses, so sorry to hear about your friend's unexpected loss. How nice of you to help them through this difficult time. Disney at Christmas is so magical, wishing you create wonderful memories and find ways to honor him. And congrats on the quitting smoking. The food thing will come and you will be one very healthy lady!:goodvibes

Lifelong_Dreamer, what degree did you originally graduate with? That is so frustrating not finding a job. But you are right, nursing is going to be a wonderful opportunity, just a few years and then you'll have your new degree! The time will fly by when you are in school, try to enjoy the time now, and relax when you can. (By the way, how cool is it that you can DIS at work!)

Hypermommy, Glad another person is in on a mini challenge! Bellybee said she would get started on the 22nd. What do you think? I don't know about the blood type diet. I have heard of it, but not in any great detail. As far as the computer goes??? That is probably one of my worst battlefields. I love to munch while I am on the computer. The best thing that I can do to ward of the munchies is drink my soda and keep the snacks downstairs.

ToodlesRN, Hello to a fellow nurse! Good luck on your surgery coming up, I hope you feel 100% better. I see you are out in Seattle, and your siggie says you have been hooked on DL... sooooo... can I ask you resource questions for DL??? :flower3: We are going next year and I can't wait! And another cruiser.... We have alot of future cruisers on Blue team! Sounds like you have the prechallenge covered!

hobbester, Good luck with your MD check up too, that is a while off yet, but I am sure it is on your mind alot. Hang in there, Disney awaits.

Lifelong_Dreamer
Two people today have commented on how I look like I have lost weight. The scale hasn't told me anything different but that made me feel really good.
That is great!!! The scale might just need time to catch up to the changes you have created. Enjoy the compliments!:woohoo:

jamesnnick, your post made me smile! Especially the part of not needing to run unless chased by a masked man!:rotfl: You have been so succesful already at losing weight. you are on a roll! Wow, you are exercising a bunch, I am going to have to be determined to get that done too.

Eeyores Butterfly, Hi there Co-captain!:wave2: Your life certainly sounds very stressful. That stinks about your dogs, hopefully the bark collars will help. The prediabetes work up will help you get that in control, and with the weight loss, hopefully that won't be an issue any more. Baby steps will get you there!

Briarmom, you are super busy too, a homeschooling mom, and your DH is just deployed? Hugs to you. Sending you thanks for your sacrifices and you DH's sacrifices. All are very much appreciated. I love your idea of the grocery list. DH just went today to the store and he said that if I don't go with him, he can stick to the list and not buy extra junk... oops, I think he was talking about me!:lmao:

Bellybee, that made me smile about the smellies... it makes sense that it would be lotion and things like that. which I think every lady needs.:) You are so right about not enjoying your food when you are an emotional eater. I am with ya there sister! I think it is a great challenge idea. I will post it for everyone to consider if they want the mini challenge. A 7 day cruise and 12 days at Pop century sounds like Heaven! We will be at Pop in 35 days, I can't wait!

4Goofys4Dis, that is great news that you are done with the prednisone, now we can help each other get to our goals and get motivated! I can hardly believe we have another cruiser on our team! I should have kept track, there are alot of cruisers. Happy early 10th anniversary! I am sure it will be very romantic on board! I am not sure how important this is to you... but we celebrated our anniversary onboard the magic too and I requested the dining rotation so that we would be celebrating our anniversary on formal night and so that we would be in the formal dining room. It was so perfect! and very romantic!

TammyNC , welcome back to WISH! WW has a great plan and the beauty of it is that you can do it yourself at home too. Since you were so successful before, you've laid the groundwork for it to be successful again. I know you can do it!

moredisneyplease, ughh, that pregnancy weight can be so frustrating. So glad you joined us and we can be losers together! Not from So Cal, but I might be asking about DL questions....;)

Dianatlol, you've got the prechallenge aced! MMMmmm, I love cookie dough too! So hard to resist!

moet7 , you have had alot of changes. It is tough when you are alone, but before you know it those acquainatances will hopefully become some dear friends, and maybe when you get into your house, you will be lucky with some great neighbors. Sounds like you have a great plan in mind, and we will cheer you on!:yay:

cjackearl, sounds like you have the challenge covered too. What is a FitZone, is that a gym? What kind of popcorn do you eat? is it buttered?popcorn:: That might be a place to change, I always thought popcorn was a good alternative to heavier snacks... maybe I am missing something?:confused3

Now for my update... Guess what????

A 5# Hersheys Candy Bar!:scared1:

Luckily sweets aren't my big downfall otherwise I would be in BIG trouble!

I am on call this weekend, and got called in once already, I am so happy I could respond to everyone already, but not sure what the weekend will hold for me. Food choices have been pretty good so far. Got Subway for lunch (while I was getting my chocolate bar!;) ) instead of McDonalds so that is good. And DH is making a roast chicken for dinner so that should be good. It is raining so I won't be going for a walk today. I think I will try to get a lot of housework done.

I am looking forward to getting going now I have dug out some recipe books and I am just working through them for the ideas. I am going for nice filling foods that give me a good range of nutrients whilst still being yummy.

Next week I will make a batch of wholemeal blueberry muffins for breakfast with a nice glass of OJ as I can grab that on the run then I will think up a whole batch of yummy recipes for lunches.

I think our challenge will be good let me know how it goes.

Welcome to all of our members, especially the few "new" ones. I hope everybody had a great first day on BL. I'll admit that I didn't really start eating right today. I got off at 10 last night and had to be in at 7 this morning- I don't think I got to bed til one am. Tonight I am making a Hastings run to get a book with carbs list for foods since I have to start counting carbs as well as points. I'm going to take a lok through it and start planning out my meals. The main problem is working in a grocery store kitchen. I odn't have a refrigerator to store my own meals (health code violation) so I eat whatever they have there. There are some healthy(er) options, but they're few and far between, and the fried chicken is just so good!

Vija: That sort of stinks about the Hershey's bar. Are you a chocolate lover? You could break off a few serving size pieces for yourself then take the bar into work or a social group- you'll be a big hit!

My first degree was a double major in English Lit and Classical Studies. I followed my passion instead of pursuing a program that would train me for a specific job, big mistake! Luckily it is a mistake that can be corrected.

:headache: You are lucky chocolate is not one of your weaknesses. Any way it can be broken into small pieces and rationed out so as to spread the calories out?

Oh, does that stink that you can't bring your own food!!! That really does stink. I can't even imagine not being able to bring my own food. I think you have one of the bigger challenges on our team with that one. Hang in there and search out those healthy options!

I thought about taking the chocolate bar to work... but I think my DH and my kids would kill me in my sleep if I did that!:lmao:

You are right, it is something that you can change, and I think it is great you are stepping out to do so. Too many people wouldn't take the risk. Pat yourself on the back, you deserve it!

I've got to tell you guys, my DD took a pic of me "biting into" that huge chocolate bar and it looks really funny! We've all had some small pieces with it, I feel sorry for the dog, she must smell overwhelming chocolate smells, and she can't have any!

Hi Everyone! I am late joining...but ready to go:banana:

I was on the WISH boards a lot a while ago...it's about time I came back:goodvibes Everyone was also super friendly and really made this journey easier:goodvibes

Well lets see...I am an emotional eater and have always been! Even as a child...my parent always believed in very large portions of the "comfort" foods. My weight got really bad about eight years ago when after a few years of trying to get pregnant I was told I would probably never have children. With each failed attempt I just got bigger and bigger:sad2: We went to WDW for the first time in 2001 and when I got the pictures back I was shocked! I had no idea I was that big!:sad2: :rolleyes1 That day really changed my life! I am now 74 pounds lighter then I was that day and I have had two beautiful princesses age 4&6 which are my miracles in so many ways:love: We went on a dream cruise last year and I was just shy of meeting my first long time goal...I missed it by 2 pounds...but I have to say I was much happier with our vacation pictures this time:lmao:

Since then I have had a really rough year...our oldest daughter was diagnosed with a rare condition that no one had any idea she had...she has always been so healthy and bright for her age...it wasn't until she started to get extreme headaches that we knew it there something wrong. We found out that shes' had an arachnoid cyst on her brain about the size of an egg since birth and by some extreme rarity it ruptured in May causing fluid and bleeding on her brain...we truly have many angels watching over us because by some miracle all the fluid drain on it's own and her brain is healing itself:goodvibes She will always have her arachnoid cyst on the brian but she should completely be back old self over the next few months with no side effects to her:goodvibes She will just be monitored. Needless to say...healthy eating went out the window and I am now 21 pounds from making my first goal and 30 pounds from achieving my dream weight.

The reason why I wanted to take part in this challenge is since I am an emotional eater it has really helped me over the years talking to people:love: I found once I told all my deepest secrets I couldn't look back I had to go forward which was always the hardest for me!

I wish everyone the best! I can't wait to read about everyones successes:love: I am so ready to loose the rest of my weight!!!

Hi all,

Well, today wasn't my best of days. I started the morning waking up 3 sleeping 13 year olds and a 15 year old (DS13 had a sleepover bday party) and making them breakfast (pancakes and bacon). They got their fill and there was a bit left over. I actually did feel pretty good about myself because I didn't get a huge amount so that was something at least.

Then we went to the local golf & games place and I was really good. But then after that I decided to go to the flea market and was starving so I got a footlong with cheese. Then it was cheese fries. And after that I might as well have the .... because the eating for the day was already shot to heck anyway.

Stop. Breath. Can't change the past. But can start right now being good again. Will behave the rest of the evening.... will behave the rest of the evening.

Princess... so we're not starting the minichallenge until the 22nd? I liked Bellybee's idea of limiting, not eliminating. I can deal with that. I think for the challenge I will limit myself to one cheeseburger a week. That's certainly got to be healthier than the one a day I usually have. LOL However, I should also elminate something and that will be munching in bed while watching tv.

Hey, Dianatlol... were you stationed in Columbia? I grew up there. Are you still in SC?

Hypermommy-I looked up Mousefest's schedule. We will be at the MK on the same day, but I hired a VIP tour guide for that day (always wanted to do this), so I don't know if I will be able to meet anyone. I'll keep a look out on their schedule.

Jaime-I'm so glad that your daughter is okay. Wow, how scary.

I dusted off the treadmill this afternoon. My goal was to start with 20 minutes. As I got close to that, I decided to keep going and do 1 1/2 miles - which took me 24 minutes. I was tried, so I quit. I don't understand how a mile seems so short in a car, but walking it seems like forever. I guess that's why they say exercise is not always supposed to be easy. Have a good evening!

Hi Princess Vija:wave2: Tae Kwon Do looks so neat…looks like great exercise! Good luck with your belt test! I have an elliptical that I haven’t used in a year…I did use it every day last year though…so maybe I should do that again. When is your Birthday? WDW is a great present! For a 30th Birthday/ 10th Anniversary present last year we decided to take a Disney Cruise it was so much fun! Best of luck with your weight loss!

Hi Hypermommy:wave2: We are planning on taking a cruise next November too! It will be a surprise for our children. Our long time friends are booked on the same cruise as you. They went with us last year and she lost a lot of weight before we went. I agree it would be much easier to quit eating all together…but having great friends to help us on the way will help too! Best of luck with your weight loss!

Hi Hobbester:wave2: Have you been to WDW in December before? We went last year…wow it was beautiful! You are going to have a great time and I bet you’ll look great too! Wow a February cruise too…how great! Best of luck with your weight loss!

Goofy Groupie:wave2: I love the user name! I tried WW and many other weight loss plans years ago and everything worked but nothing stayed off…this time has been different but I did it by completely changing my lifestyle and not dieting so it is easier…now all I need to do is loose the rest! I bet you’ll look great by time on your cruise. We are either going on October 31 or November 28…we are leaning on Halloween because we loved Halloween in WDW and because it’s cheaper but we met so many great friends on last years cruise who are cruising again in November.
Hey I just read you’ll be on the Halloween cruise too! Best of luck with your weight loss!

Hi Sabrina :wave2: I can so relate to life happening…and boy the weight loves to sneak up when I’m not looking. Best of luck with your weight loss!

Hi Bethany or WaffleLady or Convert :wave2: We are the same age…our oldest dd started grade one this year…it is so hard having her gone all day! Hmmm…wafflelady??? I should be called pizzalady…. Best of luck with your weight loss!

Hi MelanieC :wave2: Is sure hope your DH gets home on time…you and your family must miss him dearly. You can do it…I am sure you will be a healthy by time you turn 40! Best of luck with your weight loss!

Hi Lessa:wave2: lifelong dreamer….hmmm what a wonderful user name. Wow another cruiser! I love the Wii Fit not to happy on what my Mii looks like though…not to thrill with how big she is! Pizza is my weak point! I love it…I am sure I could eat a whole pizza. I now eat a lot of pita veggie pizzas…I am sure I had one every day for lunch last year…maybe I need to start making them again! Best of luck with your weight loss!

Hi June:wave2: Your right it’s do much fun relaxing by the resort pools with the kids…wow only three weeks until your trip! How nice! Are you going to the Halloween party? It is my favorite we have done in WDW…and I’m not even a big Halloween fan. Best of luck with your weight loss!

Hi Diana:wave2: Wow there are lots of cruisers on our team! That’s great that Atkins works so well for you. I have to eat carbs…or the weight doesn’t go anywhere…I just follow the Canada food guide…always pick healthier options and have pretty much given up all dips and spreads. Best of luck with your weight loss!

Hi Natale:wave2: I got married to my high school sweetheart when I was 19 too. I am a stay at home mom too and do some consulting on the side. I hope you had a great Anniversary! Best of luck with your weight loss!

Hi Donna:wave2: Sounds like you have a wonderful vacation…my girls are 4 & 6 and want to go back to WDW and on a cruise again so much…they ask all the time! Best of luck with your weight loss!

Hi Briarmom :wave2: Okay I would be in so much trouble if I lived in Beligum…yummy chocolate. Wish you all the best in loosing your 15. Best of luck with your weight loss!

Hi Christy:wave2: Wow you do sound super busy! Best of luck with your weight loss!

Hi Lisa :wave2: Thanks for mentioning the challenge this morning on the nanaboard! I was happy when I was told I was on the blue team too! Best of luck with your weight loss!

Okay I thought I try to get familar with everyone but I am only on page 2 and I really need to get to bed...I am very tired. I’ll have to finish tomorrow. Have a great evening everyone!

  WE CAN DO IT!

Princess Vija - Right now I am a program assistant. Basically what I do is make sure the farmers get paid for putting certain "practices" on their farm. Thanks for the welcome back and I will succeed this time.

Jaime- Hello to you too and good luck

Lifelong Dreamer - I just wanted to say that I am really enjoying your trip report as a lurker. Your brothers are too funny.

HELLO EVERYONE ELSE!!!

Pre- Challenge
1) Start carrying a water bottle around and drink throughout the day- 6 to 8 glasses is ideal

The good news is we have a giant water cooler here at home and at the office so I have no reason not to be able to do this.

2) Give yourself an extra hour in the grocery store. Spend the time looking at labels and serving sizes on your common food choices and find healthier items to replace them

This will be hard for me. I hate the grocery store.

3) Buy a pedometer. They range from $5-$20 usually or currently can be found in Wheaties boxes as the prize. You are supposed to take 10,000 steps a day.

Got one now I just need to remember to put it on

4) Locate and/or buy some fitness clothes. You need good shoes when starting a fitness regimen.

Done

5) Don’t stress. You have 15 weeks to get the hang of this and get closer to your goal, so don’t go gung-ho and burn yourself out.

I will not stress. Stressing out will just make it harder.

Hypermommy-I looked up Mousefest's schedule. We will be at the MK on the same day, but I hired a VIP tour guide for that day (always wanted to do this), so I don't know if I will be able to meet anyone. I'll keep a look out on their schedule.

Oooooh, please do a trip report! I'd love to hear how that VIP tour went!

Good job on the treadmill!!!! It's more exercise than you would have done if you hadn't dusted off the treadmill, right?

I found one way not to eat at the computer. I hosted a speed scrap over at Digi Scrap Station tonight and whew!!! I barely had time to breath, much less anything else!! But it was so much fun!!! This will definitely become a standard Saturday night thing for me :cool1:

Great job on the treadmill! Don't feel bad about quitting because you were tired, you reached your goal for the day and then some. It's all about baby steps!

Hey, Dianatlol... were you stationed in Columbia? I grew up there. Are you still in SC?

:cheer2: Congratulations on not overeating breakfast! Remember, this is about a lifestyle change, not a diet. Even in my diabetes ed class/diet consult the dietician stressed over and over that no food is off limits, it's all about learning to make smart choices. I can have the can of soda, but that will be all my carbs for the meal. Instead of beating yourself up for eating it, pat yourself on the back for not overdoing it!

At least your family will help the chocolate bar from being too tempting it sounds like! :rotfl:

Jaime: Somehow your post didn't quote, sorry about that. I completely understand about the emotional eating, that is something that has always been an issue for me. I still remember when I found out my grandfather died, I immediately went to KFC for the fried chicken! It's always hard when a child is sick, and I can't imagine the emotional roller coaster that you must have gone through in your family. The important thing is that you are recognizing that you have that tendency. You can't fix a problem that you don't have. I do WW, and this issue comes up a lot. Something that might help you is making a list of other things you can do when you need comfort. I know mine would be a bubblebath with a good book, burning some candles, curling up with one of my puppies, watching an inspirational movie, etc. By thinking of these things in advance, you will be ready the next time you want to reach for food.
