BL challenge ~ BLUE TEAM ~ wk1

By thinking of these things in advance, you will be ready the next time you want to reach for food.

This is a GREAT idea!!! I'm to tired to do it now (and would be in bed if I wasn't so addicted to the DIS) but tomorrow I'm going to try to think of when/why I eat and come up with some alternative strategies.

1) Start carrying a water bottle around and drink throughout the day- 6 to 8 glasses is ideal Haven't found a bottle I like yet for permanent use, but I do keep bottled water in the fridge (can't stand the taste of our tap water) so I'll continue with that until I find a suitable bottle.
2) Give yourself an extra hour in the grocery store. Spend the time looking at labels and serving sizes on your common food choices and find healthier items to replace them I already read labels and compare foods religiously, even more so now that I have strict carb limit.
3) Buy a pedometer. They range from $5-$20 usually or currently can be found in Wheaties boxes as the prize. You are supposed to take 10,000 steps a day. Did that today, got one for $4.88 at Wal Mart. I'll start wearing it tomorrow.
4) Locate and/or buy some fitness clothes. You need good shoes when starting a fitness regimen. I already have several different outfits for working out, and some great shoes. My cousin showed me these Adidas shoes that are almost entirely mesh, there's even vents in the soles so they keep my feet really cool!
5) Don’t stress. You have 15 weeks to get the hang of this and get closer to your goal, so don’t go gung-ho and burn yourself out. Great Advice!

1) Start carrying a water bottle around and drink throughout the day- 6 to 8 glasses is ideal Done! I tend to drink the most when I am home so I bought myself a freezer mug so I can have nice and cold water! I bought one for DH for work too!

2) Give yourself an extra hour in the grocery store. Spend the time looking at labels and serving sizes on your common food choices and find healthier items to replace them This is something I am very familar with...sodium is a big downfall for me so I watch all my label carefully!

3) Buy a pedometer. They range from $5-$20 usually or currently can be found in Wheaties boxes as the prize. You are supposed to take 10,000 steps a day. I dug mine out...it was at the back of the closet...will start wearing it today. Plan on walking dd's to school when it's nice out...go exercise for all of us:goodvibes

4) Locate and/or buy some fitness clothes. You need good shoes when starting a fitness regimen. :rotfl: Since I am a stay at home mom this is all I wear...all the time now I just got to start exercising!

5) Don’t stress. You have 15 weeks to get the hang of this and get closer to your goal, so don’t go gung-ho and burn yourself out. Great Advice! That is one thing that I don't do anymore that is why it's been 8 years and I still haven't reached my goal but I have never stopped trying and I am a lot lighter then I was!

Good morning everyone!

1) Start carrying a water bottle around and drink throughout the day- 6 to 8 glasses is ideal

I gave up soda all most completely this year and drink decaf unsweetned ice tea...by the pitcher full!!
2) Give yourself an extra hour in the grocery store. Spend the time looking at labels and serving sizes on your common food choices and find healthier items to replace them

I'll try this next time I go grocery shopping.
3) Buy a pedometer. They range from $5-$20 usually or currently can be found in Wheaties boxes as the prize. You are supposed to take 10,000 steps a day.

My friend gave me one...now I just need to find it!

4) Locate and/or buy some fitness clothes. You need good shoes when starting a fitness regimen.

I have some and will putting them to good use...that is the plan at any rate! :)

5) Don’t stress. You have 15 weeks to get the hang of this and get closer to your goal, so don’t go gung-ho and burn yourself out.
Will try to keep stress at bay and shut off the negative voices in my head...I am so glad I joined this - just knowing you are all out there with me makes a huge difference!!!!

Does it count against it being water if we put a bit of lemon in it? I like water with lots of lemon juice to give it a bit of flavor. Does that still count?

At least I did something right today. Went out to lunch with some folks from the office and instead of ordering the cheeseburger and fries, I got the salad and sandwich combo. I have no idea how many calories were involved but it had to be less, I'm thinking. It was definitely hard to do that -- I'm not really good at telling myself no. But I did it!

As long as there is no sugar in your water fresh lemon will actually help you. Great job on lunch! That's a hard thing to do! A little thing I do when I order lunch like that is ask for mayo and dressing on the side...since they both have a lot of fat and calories...that way I use only what I need.

This would probably help me except I don't have time to actually cook. Usually when I get home I have a big, huge salad with lots of dressing and chicken. The chicken is the Tyson's frozen kind. I guess I could see if they make a nonbreaded kind. Or maybe I could get some boneless, skinless chicken, cut it into little pieces and lay them out in the freezer and once they're frozen get them into a bag. Ugh... lots of work but maybe I could find some time on the weekends, eh?

Little steps, little steps, that's what I have to remember is little steps.

Oh, I'm thinking about Atkins. I tried it once but ended up getting really dizzy and I already am on 2 meds for high blood pressure. What about that blood type theory? I remember hearing something about how the various blood types evolved over time and that man's diet changed over time too and that your blood type can tell you something about what types of foods are best for you to eat. Have y'all heard about any of that? Any validity to it, ya think?

Last question -- What do you do when you're at the computer and you get the munchies!?!? Not hungry -- just ate -- but just want to be chewing on something! Wish they made gum in a saltier flavor!! Can't get up and go walk or anything... I have stuff I need to do. Argghhhh
For the longest time I was using forzen products and not loosing any weight...I talked to my doctor and he said it was because of the sodium in it and to make sure I check the sodium count on everything a serving should be less then 500mg. Atkins works for a lot of people but not me...my body needs carb's to loose weight...just watch my portions...I use the Canadian food guide for portion control...for computer munchies I use bubble gum!!! If that does not work I use Smart POP popcorn...it last a while:rotfl:

Two people today have commented on how I look like I have lost weight. The scale hasn't told me anything different but that made me feel really good. :goodvibes
This happen to me all the time...my wieght on the scales tends to some off in lumps...but I can see a difference in the way I look. Congratualtions!!!

Need to get lunch ready...chicken brocolli and carrotts for me today. Have a great day everyone!

Thanks! Having a specific number like that will help me a lot. Never thought about that. And less sodium would be good for my blood pressure too, huh? Cool!

As for the water... no sweetner at all. Just lemon and water. Lots of lemon, actually. I really do love that. Go figure... I'm wierd anyway

Hi everyone,

Sorry have not got the chance to know everyone yet but I have been reading all about you all and you have fantastic goals and reasons to lose weight so I know we will all get there.

I went to a bootsale this morning (its like a yardsale but everyone takes there cars filled with old stuff to a field hire a pitch set up and sell there stuff) we did not buy anything but we walked for at least 1.5 hours which was great.

I also created an excel spreadsheet with my menu plans for the 2 weeks after my birthday so at least I am getting there.
I will be replacing my chocolate bars with homemade snacks like cookies.

Jamie, glad to see you hear I know you have had a very emotional time and no one can blame you for eating in your situation I am just glad that your daughter is well on her way to getting better.

Will be good to see ya on the cruise.

I replaced my choclate bars with chocolated covered garnola bars that were around 100-125 calories...works really well for me...that way I still get my chocolate...I really like the reese peanut butter one's...they key for me is limiting it one a day...really hard for me to do!

Thanks! Having a specific number like that will help me a lot. Never thought about that. And less sodium would be good for my blood pressure too, huh? Cool!

No Problem...it was driving me crazy! I thought I was eating healthy but wasn't loosing anything then when I started to watch my sodium it made a huge difference. hmm...I love lemon water too...it's been a while maybe I'll make some today...I use to fill a 2 litre jug every morning with water and lemon and drink it durning the day.

Off to swimming with the dd's. Have a great day!

I'm a little late in doing this but my life has been crazy! I'm Vanessa or Nessa whichever you would prefer. I'm a 20 year old full-time college student. I also hold a full-time job as a store manager at Detroit Metro airport. I'm majoring in secondary education, but hope to work for Disney's YES (youth education series) leading educational field trips around the parks.
I've always been super athletic, my cheerleading team in high school was nationally ranked. Since I've graduated I've gained about 25 lbs. I would love to lose them plus 5 more. With school and work though I'm finding it hard to eat right. I don't have a fridge or microwave at work so I'm very limited as to what I can bring.

1) Start carrying a water bottle around and drink throughout the day- 6 to 8 glasses is ideal. I am currently looking for a water bottle to use. I should have it by next weekend.

2) Give yourself an extra hour in the grocery store. Spend the time looking at labels and serving sizes on your common food choices and find healthier items to replace them. I already do... I took a nutrition class last year and since then have been very aware of what's in what I'm eating.

3) Buy a pedometer. They range from $5-$20 usually or currently can be found in Wheaties boxes as the prize. You are supposed to take 10,000 steps a day. I will look for one of these as well.

4) Locate and/or buy some fitness clothes. You need good shoes when starting a fitness regimen. I've already got them. I just bought new shoes last week!

5) Don’t stress. You have 15 weeks to get the hang of this and get closer to your goal, so don’t go gung-ho and burn yourself out. This is the one I'm going to have trouble with. I'm really bad about going all out and not being able to stick with it for more than a few weeks.

Introducing my self. My name is Rebecca I live in Northern Ca...Near Sacramento. I am married to my loving husband Earl jr. I have 5 kids, but my oldest is MUCH older :rotfl: I was 17 when I had her, so she is 25 now and has an almost 2 year old. So we have 4 left at home.. two girls ages 12 and 9 1/2 and identical twin boys who are 7. I am a full time stay at home Mom plus I home school all of my kids. :flower3: One of the best decision I've ever made. ;) We have 2 BRAT cats and 2 toy chihuahua babies. DH and I have also been involved in our church's drama ministry for the past 6 years :lovestruc . We have a pretty good sized church...around 4 thousand and we typically put on 8 small skits a year and 1 medium and 1 very large production a year as well. DH is a computer server/storage specialist. He owns his own business and 95% of his contracts were with the State of California, but as many of you probably know we have been without a State budget since May and because of that so has my DH. :sad2: We have exhausted ALL of our savings, and sense DH owns his own business he can't get unemployment, but we have not given up hope yet.

I have over 100 pounds that I need to loose, but will make my goal to be 10 pound increments. It is very hard for me to do any physical exercise due to 2 major health issues..#1 I have degenerative disk disease and # 2 I was diagnosed 4 years ago with Fibromyalgia. The doctors are also starting to think and will be testing for Lupus and Celiac disease. One good thing has come from DH's contract situation, we have given up 95% of the fast food we used to eat:goodvibes . I have lost 9 pounds just from that. :cheer2:

I checked into my local gym and they offer water aerobics classes 3 times a week...My goal is to go at least 2 times in a week. As for drinking water it is my best friend. I probably drink close to 1 gallon a day.. my stomach gets very upset when I drink soda, but I do make homemade caffeine free iced tea. I bought a pedometer and will try it out..I figure I will make it goal to walk at least 100 additional steps from the day before. Small goals are MUCH more doable for me :rolleyes1

Well, I'm sure I have bored you all to tears :upsidedow so I will end for now and wish you all a great Sunday afternoon. Big Blue :grouphug: hug!!

Jaime, WELCOME! Wow, you certainly have many angels on your side. What an amazing story. Emotional eating can be at times such a comfort, but a big curse as well. The bonus is that you know it, so now you can put into place actions to avoid it. AND you have been successful in the past at losing weight so you have an idea of what it takes. You will be a role model for us, I know it! And to answer your question... My birthday is on Nov 25th. We are going a month early, for me, and just a week after my DS's birthday, so we'll be celebrating both at WDW!

Hypermommy, yeah, lets wait till the 22nd for the mini challenge. Then maybe more people might also have ideas. I too like the idea of minimizing, not eliminating. I will have just 1 serving size bag of chips a day. And way to go on getting back on track! You deserve a pat on the back!:yay:

hobbester, OH, I am soooo jealous of the VIP tourguide. I thought about doing that for our DHS day. But I just couldn't justify the money. I can't wait to hear all about it. I bet it will be just magical!pixiedust: Way to go on dusting off the treadmill! :yay:

uptown_girl44, You are a very busy lady! I love your goals, especially the one about working at Disney!:cool1: where were you a cheerleader? I totally get about going all out and then falling off the wagon, lets do our best to keep it going this time! Babys steps...

Sabrina_Mouse, Eeyores Butterfly, Jaime, Patty1859, uptown_girl44, sounds like you guys are doing great with the prechallenge! Super job!:woohoo:

sftnslky, Sorry to hear about your DH and his contracts. That does stink. But like you said, you've already lost 9# from not eating fast food, that is terrific. I have thought about going to the local rec center and swimming there. I think I may have to do that this winter. Easier on the joints.

I got called in to work today for 5 hours. Great money, but I didn't get any cleaning done... Oh well. And now of course I don't really feel like cleaning.... Just DISing!:goodvibes Food wise I have been ok. I really wanted to go for a long walk, but being on call I can't go to far. I think I will practice my TaeKwonDo form tonight and then call it a day.

Hope everyone else is doing great...

And by the way... GO PACKERS! We won today!

Hi Vanessa:wave2: wow full time job and full time student...I never heard of Disney's YES before...sounds like a wonderful thing to do! Best Wishes with your weight!

Hi Rebecca:wave2: I hope everything works out soon for your DH's business:hug: I wish you all the best with your weight loss and promise you it will become easier to be active as the weight comes off...even with health issues. Water aerobics classes was the only exercise I did at first but because of back problems I could only do deep water aerobics. Was afraid at first because I'm not the best swimmer but with the exercise float belt I was fine.

Hi Princess Vija:wave2: That is so cool that you'll both get to celebrate you Birthday at WDW...we were there that time last year...it was just wonderful especially the lights at Hollywood Studio's!

You are right I know exactly what I need to do that's why I need this board! I have not been gaining lately because I know how to avoid that now but I am having a horrible time of committing to loosing it...it was so easy for me to say I know how to do this I'll just have this "cheese burger" and start tomorrow:sad2: Well now if I go to sway of track I'll feel extremely gulity which is great:goodvibes

Have a great night and morning all!!!

It has been fantastic reading where everyone is at and what their plan is for this challenge. I know all of you are going to be fantastic. I recently posted a little story on another thread because it was something that I found inspirational so I'm going to repeat it here.

A large part of my job is working with Early Childhood students which are children ages 3-6 with special needs. One of the little girls is six years old; she has Down Syndrome and significant delays. Our team has worked so hard to help her progress in her development. This week, I was able to see her take her first unassisted steps. There were lots of cheers and tears as the PT slipped her finger out of Addie's hand and she kept on going (for 40 whole steps her first time out). I won't take the ability to walk for granted again because she had to work so hard to just to get to that point. So I challenge my Blue team to get out there and walk this week, and no matter how far you go, take a moment to think about Addie!

Good luck as Monday comes upon us and keep up the great work.
(I second that Go Packers---how 'bout those 3 interceptions in the 4th quarter)!

Thanks for that inspiration, what a great story to get to read about.

As for the challenge:

1) Start carrying a water bottle around and drink throughout the day- 6 to 8 glasses is ideal - Not a problem...have been getting in more than 8 a day.

2) Give yourself an extra hour in the grocery store. Spend the time looking at labels and serving sizes on your common food choices and find healthier items to replace them - Don't know that I can add a whole hour but will be checking the labels more closely this week plus trying to add more fresh fruits and veggies to the meals this week.

3) Buy a pedometer. They range from $5-$20 usually or currently can be found in Wheaties boxes as the prize. You are supposed to take 10,000 steps a day. - Thought I was set...found one I used a good while ago. Went and purchased a new battery but it still isn't working. Will try to stop by the store and pick up another one this week.

4) Locate and/or buy some fitness clothes. You need good shoes when starting a fitness regimen. - Have them, just need to be using them;) .

5) Don’t stress. You have 15 weeks to get the hang of this and get closer to your goal, so don’t go gung-ho and burn yourself out. - No stressing...just glad to be back on WISH and look forward to seeing the numbers go down.

Going to get the dinner meals planned out this week so I can hit the store tomorrow. Have a great evening everyone!!

Hey Jaime - yes, we'll be on the 10/31 cruise in 2009. Can't wait - this will be our first DCL cruise and I'm looking forward to agreeing that once you go Disney, you'll never do another cruise.

Well, my 2nd day went great. Started with a bowl of Special K, had a turkey hot dog with a whole bunch of salad fixings on top and no bun (bread is a huge issue for me), and a grilled chicken sandwhich with a small fruit bowl for dinner.

Not doing great with the water - I just can't seem to do it. I've tried it plain, with lemon, crystal light, etc. I just can't get it down. Any suggestions????

Hope everyone did great this weekend. I bought a new pair of pants and they are a size smaller - a little tight now but in a few weeks they'll be falling off!!!!

Go Blue Team!

A very inspirational story! Thanks!!!!

As far as watching the game... I was at work so I couldn't see it, but I did hear about it!
Go pack Go!:cheer2:

Also, just a note from me, I won't be able to be on tomorrow, I have TaeKwonDo testing and it will be very late. DD also takes TaeKwonDo, so I will be there watching her test, and then it will be my turn...:scared: I love testing, it gives me a boost of self esteem, especially when I break the board. I LOVE board breaking. I am still hoping to one day break the board on my first try. Maybe tomorrow????:confused3 ::yes::
