Bl 7.1 purple team!!!!!

njmom - glad to hear you are happy with your loss this week. I love your motivation. Do you get your daughters involved in your journey? I have some success involving my daughters by asking them to help me remember to exercise. At 7 and 4 they like being able to remind me to do stuff since normally I'm reminding them to do stuff :lmao: Enjoy your sailing clinic!

:offtopic: I love Martina McBride's song "in my daughter's eyes". For anyone that hasn't heard it, here's the lyrics.

In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be
In my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the
world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me gives me
strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe
In my daughter's eyes

And when she wraps her hand
around my finger
Oh it puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about

It's hangin' on when your heart
has had enough
It's giving more when you feel like giving up
I've seen the light
It's in my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
Though she'll grow and someday leave
Maybe raise a family
When I'm gone I hope you see how happy
she made me
For I'll be there
In my daughter's eyes

I thought I'd throw out a QOTD in case anybody is checking in over the weekend.

Sat QOTD: What do you like to do for a weekend breakfast?

On Sundays, I love to make peanut butter pancakes with some fresh fruit, but I don't do it every weekend. In fact for a long time, I only did it when my parents were coming for the day. I didn't realize that's the only time I did it, until my kids would ask if Gramma and Grumps were coming when they saw me start making pancakes :rotfl:

Hi all! Sorry to be MIA for a few days. I DID take the laptop and the scale with me when we went away Thursday, but I ran out of time Friday morning and didn't get around to posting. The news is BAD...... I gained 3.8 lbs!!

I can't even tell you how frustrated and aggravated that gain is making me feel. ONE WEEK of "real life eating" and I gain almost 4 lbs??!! And I really made a real effort to watch my food and I exercised 6 out of 7 days. I journaled and counted EVERYTHING I ate. I had a small dessert one night and some M&Ms at the movies, but other than that I didn't have anything that I would consider a big "splurge". I KNEW I would probably not lose... and that I might even have a small gain... but I never imagined it would be almost 4 pounds. In fact, I think that I didn't even use my full 35 Flex points.

The last time I had a gain anywhere near that big was the two week holiday over Christmas/New Years.... and I made VERY LITTLE effort to watch my food during that time and I got NO exercise.

It just reminds me AGAIN, what a lifetime of weight maintenance is going to be like. And sometimes I feel like I CAN'T do it! But I try SO hard to remind myself how much happier and healthier I am than I was on January 1, 2008... and January 1, 2003... and I KNOW that I MUST keep going. This week just serves to remind me that I will probably NEVER be the kind of person who can "guestimate" my food or stop tracking my food. It is too easy to overeat and underestimate.

I was feeling very aggravated yesterday and I overate when we went out for dinner, but I KNOW that doing so is certainly not the solution to my problem.

So this morning I am BACK ON TRACK. Ready to re-dedicate myself to this "lifelong journey". I WILL track my food, I WILL exercise every day, I WILL measure/weigh my food portions, I WILL make the right choices to eat healthy. A full week of no BLTNs (bites, licks, tastes, nibbles)... good food choices, lots of whole foods, fruits, veggies, and much fewer bad carbs. One week at a time.... one day at a time..... one meal at a time.

Sorry to ramble on and on.... I just needed to vent my frustration to people who will understand.

On to more fun stuff..... Sat QOTD: What do you like to do for a weekend breakfast?

Well, I tend to make breakfast for the family, but stick to my "usual" for myself. Breakfast for the family is omelets or scrambled eggs or homemade waffles or pancakes or breakfast pizza...... one of these items usually served with fresh fruit or applesauce. Sometimes I get lazy and declare it cereal and bagel day, but not often. We don't eat much cold cereal because it is expensive and not always healthy.

For myself, I usually stick with high fiber instant oatmeal or a 90/100 calorie high fiber english muffin with my peanut butter/tofu spread, fruit, and my "usual" morning drink (GF International coffees French Vanilla Cafe, sugar free, caffeine free). I did make myself some FiberOne Waffles (from the mix) this week and really enjoyed them, but the syrup is really high in calories!

We found out this week that DS's egg allergy has returned, so my usual breakfast line-up will be changing it up a bit.... gotta dig out some new ideas.

Hope everyone is having this same beautiful weather that we are finally enjoying this weekend! I can't wait to get out and get moving in the yard!................P

pjlla - :grouphug: your post is a great vent and I love how you got your frustrations out and got yourself re-dedicated. I wonder how much of your weightgain is from salt since you were eating out more, whereas at Christmas you might have been not watching what you ate, but if it was more homemade stuff, you wouldn't have the huge salt intake, that a few restaurant dinners can do.

Morning all! LuvBaloo, thanks for your kind words and support (again!). I had a good weekend and I am feeling good about being well on track again. I ate well all weekend and hopefully will continue to do so this week. DH is away again, and that usually helps my eating (no big dinners to make, no evening snacking together).

I ALMOST didn't exercise yesterday.... I did 5 minutes on the cardioglide about noon and had a wicked headache, so I bailed out. I still had the headache about 3pm, so I took some Advil and layed down. After dinner I had a nagging guilt about not working out, so I hopped on the treadmill for 30 minutes before Amazing Race came on. It was a short workout, but I went to bed "guilt free"!

My Mom came up with all kinds of great excuses for me about why I had such a large weight gain this week (gotta love Mom for helping me out!).... here they are....

"You exercised SO much, that you gained lots of muscle."

"Moving the scale around so much made it inaccurate."

"It must be your TOM."

"Too much salty food."

Well.... maybe it was all or maybe it was none of those reasons. But I will tell you that seeing that number on the scale Friday morning was a real wake-up call. It put a number in the "tens" place that I swore I would never see there again! I'm going to overcome and have a GREAT week! I hope you all do too! Talk to you all later..............P

Happy Monday everybody!

Here's another QOTD:
What are your 3 favourite vegetables?

Mine are always changing, but right now I liked steamed asparagus, steamed cauliflower (both plain, I don't like sauces on veggies) and corn.
I'm also craving some edamame steamed with rock salt, and I can't find it in the stores  But I'm off to a different town this weekend, and hopefully will be able to get into Costco and find it.

pjlla - that's great that your mom's support makes you smile.

I managed to exercise by swimming on Saturday and going geocaching on Sunday. Geocaching is using GPS satellite technology to go find things other people have hidden. Sometimes referred to as using billions of dollars of satellites to find tupperware in the woods.:lmao: We go as a family, and its great to get out in the fresh air and walk/hike with a "treasure" to be found.

Here's another QOTD:
What are your 3 favourite vegetables?

I like most veggies. I would say that my top three favorite would be asparagus (oven roasted is best), sweet potatoes (in almost any form... baked, roasted, mashed), and broccoli. My next three would probably be spinach, squash (summer and winter), carrots. I'm hard pressed to find a vegetable that I don't like (although beets and turnip comes to mind).

I guess I'm fortunate that I like so many veggies, because it certainly makes healthy, low calorie eating a lot easier!

One of my favorite winter lunches (when I am home by myself) is to make a huge pan of stir-fried veggies with some soy sauce.... cabbage, green peppers, onion, summer squash or zucchini, sometimes eggplant, spinach, broccoli, shredded carrots.... I can eat a whole plateful!!

Thanks for asking.......................P

What do you do to oven roast asparagus? :confused3
I know I like it lightly steamed, or skewered with bacon wrapped around it and cooked on the BBQ (of course the bacon makes it not too healthy)

I rinse it and snap off the bottoms. Then I dry them and put them on a foil-lined jelly roll pan (a cookie sheet with sides so they don't roll off). I spray them with Pam-type spray and put them in a hot oven (400 degrees) for at least 20 minutes (usually more like 30 min). They get really wilted and sort of shriveled looking. The tops dry out and taste sort of nutty. You could cook it less. I'm sure it would be tender in about 10-15 minutes, but I like it with the nutty tops. Add a bit of salt and I am happy!

I enjoy many of my veggies oven roasted or grilled.... but sometimes that involves too much oil.

Not sure what tonight's veggie will be.... grocery supply is low and I probably won't run out anywhere as DD is finishing a big school project that is due tomorrow. I do have a bit of last night's cauliflower left.... maybe I'll have that and let the kids go "veggie-less". They won't complain! Well.... I do have some salad supplies (lettuce, spinach, cucumber). Guess we will make do..................P

Great job on the jumping jacks! Maybe I'll try doing that many tonight.... or NOT! Not to be too personal, but what kind of bra do you wear for that kind of exercise?? When I exercise I wear a regular underwire bra with an exercise bra over it. Unfortunately (or fortunately) they are getting too big and as a result are less snug and supportive than they used to be. I would love to find a "normal" exercise bra I could wear without "doubling up".

You always stay so positive... I'm sure that helps with your great progress!................P

It was a rough 10K race this weekend, I'm afraid. I did finish, but it was tough and I had to significantly change my gameplan based on 84º and no shade, plus hills.

Food is always tougher when traveling and as a guest, but fortunately my hostess is a lovely, health conscious woman and so I don't feel like I'm set way back at all, though I did not journal over the weekend. Back to it tomorrow morning.

I don't think I can pick 3 favorite veggies. I do love them all.

Maybe portobello mushrooms, broccoli and summertime tomatoes?? I don't know. :confused3

I am disappointed to report that I had gained 1.5 this past week. There were just too many quick unhealthy meals and some take out. I do have to say that I did not enjoy the Chinese food as much. I felt blah after eating it.

I have been trying to follow some of the general guidelines of the South Beach diet. What I find is that after cutting back all those bad carbs, when I do have something I shouldn't, I feel terrible afterwards. It just doesn't taste as good either.

So, maybe that is my incentive to stick to my diet. It doesn't taste as good.

Response to a couple of the QOTDs

Healthy Snacks: almonds, yogurt with fresh fruit and nuts (rather than granola), Kashi waffle with peanut butter and sliced bananas, sugar snap peas - uncooked, Skinny Cow mini fudgesicles if I really want something sweet

Weekend Breakfast: Omelet with grilled vegetables and low fat cheese, banana pancakes or blueberry waffles sprinkled with cinnamon/splenda mixture (like cinnamon sugar) rather using syrup.

Biggest Loser: I would take either one. I do not watch it enough to really know their techniques.

Three Favorite Vegetables: avocados, raw sugar snap peas, asparagus

I hope you all have a healthy week and stay positive. I do not have time to respond to each of the notes individually but there are a few of you out there that really seemed to be down this week. :grouphug:

Tomorrow is a new day and a new opportunity.

That is how I look at each day. I can not change what happened yesterday but I am empowered to make a difference today by the choices I make.

Have a great week everyone!!

Ok- just popping in to say that my research and portfolio are officially finished! :cool1: I am going to go crash as I have not slept in over 24 hours. I will post the weights tomorrow so if you have not PMd me you have until then. If it is in the thread I may not see it so make sure that you PMd me.

What are you doing for dinner tonight?

(I have no idea, so I'm hoping to get an idea from somebody's answer ;) )

Corinnak - congrats on finishing your race under tough conditions! :upsidedow

FaithTrustnPixieDust - Isn't it strange how your tastes change when you adjust your diet? By the way, what's a "kashi waffle" And that's a great statement "I can not change what happened yesterday but I am empowered to make a difference today by the choices I make". ::yes::

Eeyores Butterfly - Welcome back! :wave2:
