I need help with DS's birthday party. I never know what to get for the goody bags (on a budget). He's turning 9 and the party will be sports themed. We're expecting around 10 boys. Thoughts / ideas?? Thanks in advance!

I would figure out how much you want to spend and divide that up and find a ball or some other outdoor toy instead of a bag of stuff. I always prefer something useful over a bag of stuff.

For my son's last birthday I was trying to figure out something other than the "junk" we get (and give) at parties. I thought about not doing anything, but I think the kids expect something. I wound up buying full size Hershey bars and making wrappers with my sons name and thank you for celebrating my birthday with me. I don't remember the exact name of the website but just google make your own candy bar wrapper and there are a bunch of sites with templates. They came out really cute and it was really cheap. The kids seemed to like them too.

In the past, I've done water bottles, flashlights and a metal cash box (that one went over really big because they all said they could lock stuff away from little sisters). I've also done those big, styrofoam gliders.

Water bottles filled with candies.

We purchased those nylon backpacks and put sports stuff inthem. Water bottle, koozies with sports prints. I don't remember what else. DH and I wore referee shirts as part of the theme.

Have fun with the party, it is a gool theme.

How about...

mini sports ball and some candy

baseball or other sports cards pack, or team set pack and some candy

mini pennants (for local college and pro team) and some candy

Happy Birthday to your DS!

Walmart has full size kites for $1, I just saw them yesterday and thought those would be great for a 'favor' in place of a goody bag.

We try to find a book in the theme of the party. For example one year was a pirate party so we found beginner chapter books about pirates. I like it because it's a useful item, not too much clutter for anyone and if you search sales and book close outs it's not expensive.:)

:thumbsup2 great idea, I totally agree, one "item" versus a bunch of "stuff"

This is exactly what I think is best. and others have suggested water bottles which goes right with your theme. Tie a little note to it with "thanks for celebrating with me" (or something more clever that fits the theme) and you're set!

When one of the ds went to a baseball themed party the mom gave out boxes of cracker jacks, big league chew and a baseball themed pencill etc.

What a timely post! My DS (7) is having his party this weekend and I wasn't sure what to put in the goody bags. These are some great ideas! Now, if everyone would only RSVP I would know how much to buy.......

The big hits at my son's party this year were whoopee cushions and waterguns. Boys will be boys! LOL

Where did you get the metal cash boxes from? Thanks!
