Biggest waste of time?

The only time I've ever felt I "wasted" time on a Disney cruise would have been on my 2015 Fantasy cruise when I decided to check out this mythical Pirate Night Buffet. Wow... It took me at least 20 minutes just to get from one door to the other (it would have been just as long turning around as I would have totally been swimming against the stream) and I couldn't even get close enough to the food to know what there was much less get anything. You would have thought everyone had been starved below deck for days the way they were swarming.

I went back to my cabin and ordered a Mickey Bar and ate it watching the water go by on my verandah. And learned that I'll go to the show and fireworks on Deck 12, then head to my cabin and get a nice Mickey Bar from room service! (And avoid the feeding frenzy!!)

I never understood how people could be that hungry when dinner just ended a couple of hours ago LOL. We go to see the ice sculptures and decorations, but we're always too full to get anything but maybe a dessert.

Have you seen it since they re-vamped it on the Wonder, I thought it was excellent, one of my favs. Toy Story on the other hand is ready to be retired lol.

I thought Toy Story was ready to be retired the first time I saw it (2011). BUT, while I thought the show stunk, I thought the cast that was in the show was great. Loved them in all the other productions, and they did several late night cabaret-style shows in Promenade Lounge on our first Mexican Rivera cruise. Sadly, I had to watch it 2 more times before I could say "never again" to seeing it. The first time we saw it there was a technical glitch that stopped the show for a few minutes while they reset. So, next Wonder cruise, I said, OK, let's go watch it all the way through before I finally decide it's not that great a show. But - NO. Again, technical issues (something different). And this one really grated on my nerves because it left the Sid character onstage for over 6-7 minutes screeching his song, until he finally gave up and left the stage. Finally got to see the show all the way through, no stops on the next cruise.

I liked Buckets & Boards. Much more than I liked JunNk on our recent cruise. Actually, I didn't like JunNk at all.

We just finished our 3rd cruise (Fantasy-Dream-Fantasy). I wanted to do the Art of the Theme Show Tour, but took the ship tour on the first day instead, for newbies. The next day I found the right tour.

The welcome show was a bit disappointing, but since the skit had a moody teenager, and that was a running joke with other entertainers in the ship, we came to understand that our moody 10 year old was not a phenomenon.

I'm another one that doesn't care for the Pirate Night menu--sorry! Next time we will order room service.

We went on our first cruise last summer & thought the fireworks were a huge waste of time. A guy standing near us, commented that the fireworks are usually much better. He wasn't sure if there was a technical difficulty.

Pirate Night. All of it. I've never even seen the buffet. The fireworks were a yawn. The show was bad. Etc.

Pirate night menu for a vegetarian:

The Buccaneer's Sun-Ripened Pineapple - fresh island pineapple with a coconut covered banana and orange glaze


Mr. Smee's Bibb Lettuce Salad - with bibb lettuce, baby greens, chicory, tomatoes, toasted pine nuts and raspberry vinaigrette


Sunken Vegetable Treasure - Black-eyed pea and quinoa croquettes with a mushroom sauce


Tiger Lilie's Savory Pancakes - stuffed with tofu, spinach, and lashed to the deck on a pool of pepper coulis


All are awful. The pineapple would be ok without the sauce.

The rest of the options are not good. I now order Mac and cheese from the kid menu that night.

Dh had a long conversation with them about what the pancakes should be vs what they are.

I thought it was the worst! A show about an awards ceremony that's missing its host and someone steps in (the one time I saw it the actress looked incredibly like Amy Adams and that's awesome for her but it was distracting for me) to talk about how hard it is to host a show (despite the fact that she's not hosting but just talking about it) and then she wins the award for best host? Excuse me? That's the basis for a show???

I've also seen Villains.

Due to my reaction to those shows, my family will not let me see Believe, as even they, super cheesy sentimental guys, thought it was bad. They do not want to be in the room with me for Believe. I trust them. I don't want to be in the room with me for it.

While I wasn't a Musicals person (budget cuts in the 70s and 80s in CA schools meant that our theater was music-free), I am a theater person, so it's weird to dislike their shows. Then again, ask me how I feel about the ridiculous new Jedi training show. Does everything with Disney have to be "young woman stops being an idiot and finds her inner strength"?

So the shows are also on my waste of time list, unless it's a magician or comedian.

This is my opinion only, but the biggest waste of time for us was participating in the fish extender.
No need to debate it - it just wasn't 'our thing'. I can appreciate how others enjoy it.

Biggest waste of time for me was the port shopping seminar.

We wouldn't be taking our 6th and 7th cruises with the mouse next month if we wasted that much time on each sailing. Some activities/events are better than others. Most that you don't like you can walk away from. Those that you paid extra for and were disappointed with you can report to guest services. My continual fascination with the mouse is the imagineering and creativity that goes into the overall experience...and the details. We "waste time" when we fly from Oregon to LA or Orlando to go to a land, world or cruise. Easy fix: we are driving to the Wonder in Vancouver next June to see Alaska. Overall we find more pros than cons and hope Mickey keeps trying new ideas to make us happy and well fed. Can't wait for the new ships to launch!!

The Secret River Cave Excursion. I wrote this in 2014 after our trip. Was it cool yes!! to see the caves for 90 minutes for an 8!!! hour excursion my family said a big NO.

The Secret River- It's a Journey
We just did this last summer and it was fun but it was a JOURNEY!!! We met in the Tube at 8:15 AM but did not get onto the boat ride over until 9 AM. The boat holds about 200 people and everyone going on different excursions to Playa del Carman take the same boat.

It is a 35 minute boat ride and the water is very rough ( be sure to take sea sick meds they pass out barf bags on the boat). Then they gather everyone for the Secret River excursion on the dock and you walk to vans, it takes about 20 minutes to gather everyone for the short walk to the vans. It's very organized.

The van ride over is about 35 minutes. 15 minutes of the ride is down a unpaved very hilly road. (there were tons of butterfly's). You then get ready for the walk in the caves. They give everyone shorty wet suites and booties and a life jacket to wear. If I had to do it again I would not wear the wet suite. I was very hot. Most of the time the water is only knee deep. The two times we got in deep water the wet suite fills up slowly The water was not that cold, it was more painful having the wet suite fill up. I was so hot that half way through I pulled the top half down, yes I was wearing a bathing suite.. I suggest you wear shorts and a t-shirt over your bathing suite the booties and the life jacket. The tour takes about 90 minutes. I'm am very active but had difficulty walking at times. My son got the walking stick but I did not. He gave me his and I really needed it. After the tour they serve a very good lunch.
Then we waited another 30 minutes for the vans to take us back. Another 35 minute ride. When you get back to the dock area you have to wait another hour for the boat to take you back to the Disney ship. There is a beach and a shopping area. We were very tired ( that could have been for the sea sick meds we took for the boat rive over.). It was now 3:30 and we were ready to go back to the ship.

It was a great tour I happy we did it but 8:15 - 5:00 was just a little to long for 90 minutes in the cave.

For me, the all aboard show is the worst, the boy 'Jeremy?' Just grates on me to the point I can't stand it, probably a similar issue some have with one of the charecters in toy story.

We actually really like the pirate menu, the pineapple is one of our favorites next to the strawberry soup you can get onboard.

I can do without the pirate party on the dream class, but really liked the one on the classics how they work the fireworks into the show. Now that we have been on the classics so many times I will admit to now chilling in quiet cove to watch the fireworks.

The horns on the dream class, I know they can play more tunes, but they don't have the genuine sound of the classics. We no longer try to be out on deck when the dream class go through their horn progression.

Jamaica, we had to go into a different port, and the bus ride was interesting, including a stop for a partial tank of gas where we saw some illegal activity going down. The excursion was nice, but sadly don't want to go back there.

That really is about it other than certain acts, but that is so subjective I won't mention any.

I usually go to the welcome aboard show if the variety act is one I'm not familiar with. My issue with the show itself is that part where Dad is struggling with the luggage. It used to be a bunch of prop suitcases. At some point they were replaced with the actual spinner cases they sell in the gift shop. And it now bugs me to no end that dad doesn't just wheel them. Sorry, Goethe. Willful suspension of disbelief only extends so far.
