Happy Sunday all!
Hi
Carol!

Nice to see you! Good luck with the accounting system change.
I'm another one in the 50's age group. I really have been so much happier and more content since I hit this decade even though I don't feel a day over 35!
I did a 4 mile race today. It was lots of fun and i was happy with my time. Now im relaxing with my youngest son while my dh and older son are at a football game. I love reading everyones plans to reach there goals. We are all on the right path to get to our happy places.
Congrats on your GREAT race yesterday,
Lindsay.

You are so speedy!
Buffy, I believe that
Lindsay is a maybe for the WDW Marathon W/E this year.
QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary
I know for me personally when I am diligently tracking I do much, much better than I do if I'm sort of tracking.
Also, the big eye opener for me was how FEW calories I burned exercising. I weigh just below 200 pounds. How many calories do you think I burned running my half marathon, 13.1 miles, last week-end? 2000? 3000? 4000? Nope, 1567.

An amount of calories that could easily be consumed in a trip through the drive through at McDonald's if I had regular soda.
YES, DEFINITELY! I am way more cautious of what I eat when I see my total calories for the day dwindle with each bite.
Absolutely!

It's much easier to stop trouble in it's tracks than to try and make up for it later for sure.
Another fun thing to do with tracking is to figure out what you have to do to work off that indulgence before you eat it. Often a couple of hours of walking doesn't sound like a good trade for a cookie or two.
I've noticed that when I don't track food I tend to go off plan. I've gotten better with it over time. I was at Disney for a week in May and actually lost weight and didn't track a bite I ate. I feel "off" when I don't track what I'm eating. I've gotten so used to doing it its just become second nature.
You know you are on the path to success when tracking is now second nature!
I think that tracking food is definitely important to a weight loss journey. I know that when I have been my most successful it is when I would write down every bite of food, every minute of exercise, and every glass of water. I start out well with tracking, but then after a few weeks I slowly fall of the wagon. I think the easiest thing is to try and remember what motivated me to lose weight in the first place.
If you can even track on most days you will be ahead!
I got the same result from the quiz. That is my biggest problem too. I get this all or nothing attitude. I know that about myself, and I still let it beat me.
Maybe try making your all or nothing into smaller segments, like for that day or even that meal?
I find it helps not only in the accountability on a daily basis but also provides a record to which I can refer when I hit the rough times when the scale does not move. It helps me ensure that I don't eat too many calories but also helps make sure I eat enough that my metabolism does not shut down on me.
Very good point about making sure that you are eating
enough calories, too, so that your body doesn't go into starvation mode.
luvpoohandcompany, I'm very sorry for your loss and your tough day.

This one is a tough one for me to answer. I want to say all three I can see it definitely healping as having what you eat right there is black and white is a bit of a reality check. You can also use it to see trends and maybe how to overcome the issues. The maybe answer because some people just aren't geared to learning that way. And the no because people still lose weight and don't track.
I am kinda on the fence here because I am not sure where I myself fall on this. So I am going to experiment. Going to track my food for a few days and see if it helps any. Told you I was going to take any and all advice during this challenge. Come Friday morning weigh in I will see if it helped.
Be sure and let us know how it works out for you!

It is true that what worked in the past may or may not work now so it is good to be flexible and try different things.
And that was a very nice reply to luvpoohandcompany!
Without a doubt, YES! I love to graze (does anyone else feel like a cow when you use that statement? and keeping a found journal has helped me so much! I the use MyFitnessPal app on my Droid. What does everyone else use?
I use MFP as well on my iPhone. I had a lot of fun scanning my food when I first used it but I can do just as well typing things in now too. I use it on my computer alot as well. I have tried sparkpeople for tracking also.
According to Sparkspeople, I am prepared for success. i do know it's a long, hard row to hoe and I'm ready to do what it takes.
i do think that tracking food is VITAL to success. I know that I, along with countless others, do not have a good grasp on portion sizes and the calories in food. Since i now have to track carbs, I've been unpleasantly surprised numerous times - even when i THINK I've made healthy choices.
Judging from yesterday, I'm going to struggle through June. My son graduates from high school this Friday and the graduation parties have already started. Three open houses yesterday and 2 more today. I've lost track of how many more we've been invited to, but healthy choices seem to be missing from party menus so far. Not a vegetable to be found! while i didn't have any trouble bypassing the cake and cookies, after 6 hours, I needed something that wasn't sausage or nacho cheese!
Those kind of outings are tough. Eating ahead of time doesn't help much when you are gone for 6 hours. Is there some portable snack you could bring or volunteer to bring the fruit and veggie tray?

Not to mention graduation is an emotional time, too.
Pamela, hope the swim meet is drier today!

Good luck to your DD!
YES, YES, YES! Tracking is a huge part of being successful in my weight loss success - it's way to easy for me to lose track of how much creamer I put in my coffee if I don't measure it out! I also like looking back on my food journal on weeks that I've had "good" loses (any loss is good, but you know what I mean!) so I can re-create it.
Just like
Pamela mentioned it is nice to be able to look back and learn from your past successes!
I hope this isn't off topic, and if so, I will change it to a PM. But, it does have to do with exercise and the challenge since this is my main form of working out.
So sorry about the bad experience with the dog. Can you cross to the other side of the street or not go down that particular street when you walk? I know that the dog owner should be responsible but unfortunately they are not always.
Buffy, my only advise is don't ask what you should do about marathon week-end on the marathon week-end thread because they will talk you into doing Goofy!
Lynda, great job on turning your splurge into a success!
super quick - i'm popping in to say that i'm doing the challenge. i will send my weight to sue on friday. just started a new job and my DIS time has been severely cut back. like, to zero
Hi
Nancy!

Nice to see you!

Hang in there with the new job!
Buffy, Nancy is doing the full marathon in January.
How do you multi-quote in a post?
At the bottom right hand corner of post are a few boxes -- click the one with the + sign for each quote you want to multi-quote. You can make them shorter or highlight what you are referring to -- just be sure the quote starts with the info about the quote and ends with /QUOTE (in brackets). It's fun once you get the hang of it.
Hope that everyone is enjoying their Sunday. Making sure we have clean laundry for the rest of the week.
