Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

You guys!!!! I had a total eating victory today!

My best friend and I walked 3 miles this morning and then decided to eat sushi at lunch. Well, it was all you can eat :scared1:, but I counted the calories and kept well within my lunch goal and STOPPED when full. Seriously?!?!? I think my stomach was in shock from not being stuffed. I did it and then had sugar free chocolate jello for dessert instead of a MicD's vanilla cone. baby steps!

Wanted to share with all my challengers. WE can totally do this thing!

WHOOO!!!! :banana::dance3::woohoo::cheer2: That is AWESOME!!!

Running does mess around with your weight in the short term, Kaiti, so just keep swimming. :fish:

Thanks Lisa :) I just need to make sure I don't let the next number I see on the scale upset me if it's moved in the direction I don't want it to!

Let's continue our journeys to the Happiest Place on Earth. :smickey:

fastpass-400.jpg

We DISboards planning types know understanding the ins and outs of FASTPASS is a great way to help you get the most out of a trip to Disney and take in lots of attractions while other people are stuck waiting in line.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a FASTPASS to help you with your weight loss?

What if I told you there was something that you could do to help you lose TWICE as much weight than you would otherwise?!? Would you be interested? Would you be willing to try it? Well, you can! And all you have to do is keep a food diary! :thumbsup2

A 2008 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine found that dieters who tracked their food intake in a "food diary" lost twice as much weight as those who didn't track their food. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/07/080708080738.htm

It is incredibly easy to underestimate the number of calories that you consume and overestimate the number of calories you burn when exercising. It is a real eye opener when you first start tracking. :scared1:

Here is a link to an article on sparkpeople.com about how important keeping track of your food can be on this journey to good health. http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=394

Which brings me to the QOTD.

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

Have a great evening all! ::MickeyMo

AB.SO.LUTELY. Tracking is so important for me, because I always forget what I do. And when I track, I find out what doesn't work, but most importantly I find what DOES work.

Quote of the day

Eat for the body you want, not the body you have

Nicely put, Buffy :)

JacksLilWench -- I hope you enjoy setting goals for yourself. :cool1: I decided that every 10 pounds I was going to reward myself (NOT food related). I'm a little over a pound away from losing 30 pounds since May 2010. I still haven't decided what I want yet. I'm leaning toward getting Bob Harper's new book but can't make up my mind. I've also rewarded myself in the past with pedicures, clothes, or DVDs. Have fun with it and don't feel bad if over time you want to change them. I've changed mine up quite a few times. I get bored with them occasionally. :lmao:

Very cool! :woohoo: My present to myself when I reach goal is the Dooney and Bourke white Minnie Mouse bow purse. I can't wait to get it and carry it around everywhere! My DM promised my sister and I she would take us to WDW when we all reached goal...which might be a while.

My sister likes to come up with excuses as to why she hasn't lost as much as she could have lost by now, even though she's also on WW. It really ticks me off that she will use any reason as an excuse. Last month, she went through a 4 week nurse aide training program and at the meeting she went to (her first one in four weeks, mind you) she told everyone she hadn't been coming OR sticking to plan because she was "too tired" to follow it :sad2: And everyone celebrated that she didn't gain. It's like she doesn't get it. But worst case scenario, I'll just go with my DBF :upsidedow

*****************
The WW 5K went great! I have no idea how my time was because it wasn't chipped at all, and I didn't bring my phone with my GPS in it, but I had a great time participating and cheering everybody on. Here is a picture of my mom and me getting our certificates!
WW5K.jpg

I can't wait to get registered for another 5k. I just have to wait for my new check card to come in...I lost mine last week and haven't gotten my new one yet. I feel so lost without it! But I must say, it IS keeping me from stopping and getting junk food from the bakery near DBF's house, so maybe it's not all bad

Hee hee ha ha hee hee hoo hoo.
Boy are we in luck!
We're visiting a laughing place. Yuk, yuk, yuk, yuk, yuk.
Oh, everybody's got a laughing place, a laughing place to go-o-o.
Take a frown, turn it upside down and you'll find yours we know-ow-ow.

Splash-Mountain-poster-web.jpg

A visit to the Happiest Place on Earth would not be same without a little humor. :teeth: And what better place to exercise your sense of humor than with a little trip to your laughing place?

It's Motivational Monday and who better to give us all some motivation than a group of people who know how to have fun -- kids!

Here is an excerpt from a sparkpeople article called 11 Things Children Can Teach You About Weight Loss

You can live every day with more focus, and every week with more motivation.

Here’s what every child knows that you may have forgotten. See if you can apply some of these lessons to your daily program:

Everything can be a game. Why slog through the same workout routines in boredom, when you can add a little fun? Make up rules, shoot for personal records, regain your competitive spirit.

Don’t walk when you can run. Every day is full of opportunities to increase your fitness. This rule is closely related to "don’t drive when you can walk."

If you don’t like it, don’t eat it. Once you hit your goal weight, chances are your eating habits won’t stick around long if you hated what you were eating. Healthy eating involves balance and moderation.

Laughter feels good. Kids seem to inherently know that laughter can ease blood pressure, help your brain function, give you energy, and help you reach your goals. Smiling and enjoying yourself can be serious help.

Playtime is important. We get so caught up in work, chores and a host of "have-to's" that we forget to take time for ourselves. Not only does relaxing and regrouping make life worthwhile, it has real health benefits. Most of all, it will help you stay consistent and motivated.

The world should be full of color—especially on your dinner plate! Splash it with as many colors as possible, paint it like a rainbow with food. It’s more fun to look at and chances are you’ll be eating a healthy, balanced meal.

It’s always more fun with friends around. Children tend to gravitate toward other children. It gives them spirit and makes them want to play all day. Working out with other people is almost like having your own little playgroup.

Adventures are found outside, not inside. Every kid knows that the good stuff is in the great outdoors—fresh air, wide open spaces, limitless possibilities. You can’t find those things cooped up in a tiny, stale gym. Open the door and start a new adventure every day.

It’s important to use your imagination. You can be Captain Fantastic or Stupendous Woman any time you want. Give yourself permission to believe in your own super powers and let your mind take you wherever it wants to go.

Anything is possible. No fear, no self-doubts, no negative self talk, no self-criticism, no worries, no destructive anxieties or thoughts of failure. To a child, he/she can do anything. And do you know what? They’re right.

You have your whole life ahead of you. Here’s your chance to do it right.

QOTD Monday, June 4, 2012: Which of these motivational ideas can you use on Motivational Monday? Or do you have one of your own? Just make sure it comes from your laughing place!:lmao:

I will be back in the morning to give you my answer and catch up on replies -- we're off to a great start! :goodvibes

QOTD--I needed this one today:
Anything is possible. No fear, no self-doubts, no negative self talk, no self-criticism, no worries, no destructive anxieties or thoughts of failure. To a child, he/she can do anything. And do you know what? They’re right.

This is what I need to remind myself of. Sometimes hourly, sometimes daily, sometimes every minute. Thanks for the reminder Lisa.

QOTD Monday, June 4, 2012: Which of these motivational ideas can you use on Motivational Monday?

This one is easy for me to answer: If you don’t like it, don’t eat it.

I am finally coming around to realize that I don't want to waste my points/calories on something that I don't like. Obviously, there are exceptions to this. I've been trying to come up with new recipes so I don't get bored and sometimes I make something that I don't love - but don't want to waste the $$ that I spent on ingredients.

Recently, I found this graphic on a blog that I follow and have a copy of it taped to my fridge:

I am trying to make it my new mantra. :thumbsup2

QOTD Monday, June 4, 2012: Which of these motivational ideas can you use on Motivational Monday? Or do you have one of your own? Just make sure it comes from your laughing place!

Everything can be a game.

I every now and again get bored with my workout routine. So at least once a month I change things up to make it more interesting and to keep me motivated and staying focused. I used to only swim laps in my pool. Now, I've discovered (with a little thought) that I can add other exercises like squats, step ups, arm circles, treading water, etc. Yeah, it may not seem like a lot but it is! 126 laps in my pool equals half a mile. It roughly takes me half an hour to do that. Once that's completed then I do 50 squats, 20 arm circles (counter clockwise & clockwise), and 50 step ups, and 5 minutes of treading water. Usually by the end of it I'm exhausted, :)

I also have changed up my treadmill workouts and increase my incline and have done walking/jogging intervals. I don't do it that often but its a great way to get my heart rate up and sweat my booty off. :)

If you don’t like it, don’t eat it. Once you hit your goal weight, chances are your eating habits won’t stick around long if you hated what you were eating. Healthy eating involves balance and moderation.

I love food. Like most people, food is tied with so many of my memories and family traditions. My challenge is to modify those foods to keep the traditions alive but balanced with a healthy diet.

Anything is possible. No fear, no self-doubts, no negative self talk, no self-criticism, no worries, no destructive anxieties or thoughts of failure. To a child, he/she can do anything. And do you know what? They’re right.

Indeed! :thumbsup2

Well I am officially signed up for the Wounded Warrior Project 8K in September!
It is mandatory to raise at least $99 but my goal is $400. If anyone is interested you can donate

Good Monday morning everyone.

Have had a pretty quiet weekend since we got home from the wedding.

I spent time on Saturday and got our airplane tickets and theme park tickets (before the prices went up) for our trip.:banana: The trip feels real now. When I told dh that we would be getting in at 6:30 at night his reaction was "Then we could hit a park". Did I marry a crazy man? We told him that we would wait until the next morning and I could almost see a pout starting.

It is supposed to rain most of the week. I have to go to a barbque tonight for our Boy Scout district. I would not be going but I am getting the District Award of Merit for all my years as popcorn kernel.

Yesterday our town was showing off their new fire truck. So dh and I walked over to the event. It was mostly a loud band and a lot of drinking going on. The truck was in a spot where the other trucks could not spray it so we didn't know what was going to happen for 5 hours.

Off to get dressed for school.

Have a happy and healthy day.

QOTD Monday, June 4, 2012: Which of these motivational ideas can you use on Motivational Monday? Or do you have one of your own? Just make sure it comes from your laughing place!

Everything can be a game.

I think I will use that one. Actually this challenge is sort of like a game, who gets to be biggest loser. So I will also try to find fun ways to lose. Swimming is fun, I had forgotten that. I haven't swam in years, was too embarrassed. Since I lost the 30 lbs I go swimming. OK it isn't in broad daylight, around tons of people, but I do go out to pool with my lil princess and we splash around. Maybe, hopefully, by end of challenge I will be up to daylight swimming LOL. ooooh maybe even bold enough to go to Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon :scared1:

Hey friends I have been MIA while on vacation. Today is our last day at Disney and tomorrow is universal before heading home! I have been indulging but definitely ready to get back on track! Talk to you all soon!!

Boy do I need this one today.....up until now it seems that my quote for the day has been When it rains, it pours. Isn't it amazing how a lot of "stuff" (work, home, life in general) can all pile up or fall on you at the same time and it just makes getting through the next hour let alone the day seem nearly impossible. And since it is not from my laughing place, I am tossing it out right now.

Managing to find the few momement to check here as already begun to wipe some of those rain clouds out of my proverbial sky. I just put on the finale song from the stage musical Mary Poppins. It is called Anything Can Happen. I recommend you have a listen on youtube if you are not familiar with it. Inspirational reminder to chase your dreams because they are right there ready to be caught, just waiting. And that is the way I need to look at my day today and push past the superficial. These lyrics really ring true to me:
If you reach for the stars
All you get are the stars
But we've found a whole new spin
If you reach for the heavens
You get the stars thrown in

Anything can happen if you let it
Life is out there waiting so go and get it
Grab it by the collar, seize it by the scruff
Once you've started living life you just can't get enough

Anything can happen, it's official
You can choose the super or the superficial
Sally forth the way we're steering
Obstacles start disappearing

So thanks my BL Challenge friends for being my inspiration and motivation.

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

YES, YES, YES! Tracking is a huge part of being successful in my weight loss success - it's way to easy for me to lose track of how much creamer I put in my coffee if I don't measure it out! I also like looking back on my food journal on weeks that I've had "good" loses (any loss is good, but you know what I mean!) so I can re-create it.

I do that too!

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

I'm going to say yes and it depends on the person. I think the older you are the more important the food part is vs the exercise part.
For me, it is a resounding yes!! Pamela taught me that it's the hidden calories that end up biting you in the butt, like the dollop of milk in your tea x 3 in a day. I never realized just how many calories there were in salad dressing, mayo, ketchup, sugar. ETC.

And don't apologize for it not being weight related. Emotions, feelings, joy, sadness, it's all related. How many of us are emotional eaters?!? Quite a few! I know when Pamela's husband was hurt, she was here a lot to get through the feelings and emotions. When Nancy had her baby, when my DH was traveling so much. We are here to support each other day in and day out. With the good and the bad!

Didn't realize that I talked SO MUCH!! :rotfl:

Well, funny you mention this. DH and I talked this morning and I said "I think I will do the 1/2 and we'll aim for the 25th anniversary of the full and our anniversary". He came back into the room and said "why can't we do both". I'm like "both what?, the 1/2 and the full?" He said "Both the 20th and the 25th" I was like  and

So, now I'm not sure what the heck we are doing!!
I have until June 15 to decide because that is when I want to pay for the race.

You've got a few days to decide.... but personally I say GO FOR IT!!!

Quote of the day

Eat for the body you want, not the body you have

In going along with the theme of the QOTD, I am going with this quote.
Pamela taught me (she teaches me a lot of stuff!!) that we will never be able to eat like a skinny person, we will always have to eat like we are fat. She did say it more eloquently than I did though! LOL
But it's true. We won't get to the end of the journey and then eat and be like we were before. This is a lifestyle change, a forever change. It's something we will have to maintain and work at for the rest of our lives. Sounds daunting, but it's worth it if it gives us 20 -30 more years on this earth to be with family, friends and to make a difference in the world.

Wow.... I do talk a LOT!

QOTD Saturday: I took the quiz and it says I am Prepared for Success!! Which is great because I feel more prepared than ever before.

QOTD Sunday: I have to say that, yes, logging your food is VERY important. I think that is one of my failure areas because I am so bad at it! I really enjoyed WW the 3 or 4 times I've signed up, but I don't succeed because I always forget to log. I always say I'm going to do better, and I try different programs, even paper and pen, but I haven't found a way to steadily do it yet.

In the last challenge I decided Fridays would be my splurge day, because my family loves pizza Fridays. But then I spent the rest of the week trying to make up for it, so my progress was slow. This past Friday we did have pizza Friday, but I got a thin crust vegie pizza and only ate two!! It was good and I felt good. Baby steps
Lynda

I agree with the baby steps.... especially for foods like pizza! Could you make your own pizza for yourself at home and eat it while the family has take-out pizza? That is a solution I've used around here. In fact, we rarely get take-out pizza at all any more.... maybe just a few times a year. The family is okay with my healthier homemade pizza these days. Whole wheat thin crust with plenty of lowfat cheese for DS, some veggies and lowfat cheese for DD, and LOTS of veggies and a bit of lowfat cheese for me. Low carb crust and regular cheese for DH. It really is quick and easy with premade crusts and jarred or frozen sauce. I can eat 4 slices of this pizza for LESS calories than just two slices of pizza from our local place. I'm definitely a volume eater, so this is ideal for me.

super quick - i'm popping in to say that i'm doing the challenge. i will send my weight to sue on friday. just started a new job and my DIS time has been severely cut back. like, to zero

have a great rest of your weekend

YIKES! Two little boys AND a new job! You are going to be busy! Best of luck with the new job!

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

Yup a definitely for me as well, but the journal is not an end all be all sadly. For example, yesterday was dh's family reunion. They are West Virginia folk with West Virginia cooking. I did the best that I could (for the most part, the butterscotch pie called me twice!1) and logged every bite, but the app says I was under my goal for the day. I really doubt that given the amount of fat and butter and god knows what else they use when they cook. I was up .4 this morning, so I think that my instincts were spot on.

First of all.... DON'T EVEN tell me about the butterscotch pie.... it sounds delish! And second.... good job with the instincts. I find that folks routinely underestimate the calories that are in things..... especially desserts. I try to estimate HIGH, just to CMA.

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?

I'm in the yes, definitely! camp. I find that tracking is just as important for maintaining as it was for losing for me. I feel like it's a measure of accountability that I don't have otherwise - I would definitely slip and here and there until I'm out of control. This weekend has been a bit slippy for me on tracking, and I'm so conscious of it, trying to make sure I go back and note all those extra nibbles. Must stop grazing!

I have a pasta sauce on the stove made from all sorts of leftover things - that'll be dinner tonight with a mishmash of pasta remnants. (Can you tell I'm starting to clear the pantry before we go on vacation?) The sauce has half a pound of 93% ground beef, half a bag of pearl onions (which should peel off as the sauce simmers all afternoon), most of a box of frozen chopped broccoli (thawed and squeezed dry a big), half a bottle of pasta sauce, a can of crushed tomatoes, and some seasonings. It's starting to smell really good in here!

I haven't made a good batch of "leftover casserole" in a while! I usually do like you do before a vacation..... as much to empty the pantry and fridge as to save a few last dollars for the trip!

We're waiting on a Craigslist buyer for the dresser that was in DD7's room - we redid her room a bit yesterday to keep it from being such a tight squeeze. I'm so glad to have people lining up for this behemoth of a dresser right away! The cash from that will offset the cost of her new, smaller dresser and nightstand.

I'm hoping to do another C25K workout tonight. I've been getting back into it hardcore since the toe mended, and it feels great! I love going out at 8pm, as we still have light until almost 9 - just need a spritz of bug spray...

Off to track that Firehouse Subs sandwich I had for lunch...

XO
Liz

Hope the outdoor run went well.

Hi everyone! I just decided to join - and even if I am a few days late, at least I manage to join in week 1!

I need to lose several pounds as all my clothes don't fit that well any more and if I spend more money on new clothes it has to be because the old ones are too wide, not too tight as it would be the case right now!

I hope all of us will have a successful summer!

Welcome aboard!!

Happy Sunday all!

Also, the big eye opener for me was how FEW calories I burned exercising. I weigh just below 200 pounds. How many calories do you think I burned running my half marathon, 13.1 miles, last week-end? 2000? 3000? 4000? Nope, 1567. An amount of calories that could easily be consumed in a trip through the drive through at McDonald's if I had regular soda.

It can be really depressing how QUICKLY we can eat back our exercise calories!

Pamela, hope the swim meet is drier today! :fish: Good luck to your DD!

Only marginally drier. Weather.com was totally WRONG! THey had predicted clearing skies and a decent afternoon. Instead it was still dark and rainy and windy and cold. But DD was done a bit quicker than the previous day and I got smarter and spent more of the day in the car staying warm. Her swims weren't great, but it was a tough weekend for the kids trying to stay warm running around in wet swimsuits and wet hair!

Hope that everyone is enjoying their Sunday. Making sure we have clean laundry for the rest of the week. :laundy:

The laundry never ends, does it?? Hope you got it all caught up quickly and can take a break from the washer this week!

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2936354

I started a new BL run/walker thread if anyone would like to join us.

THANKS!!

The 20th anniversary race for the marathon is in 2013. I want to run it but I don't know if I can keep up the pace. They also have a 1/2 marathon the same weekend. So my thought was to do the 1/2 in 2013 and the full in 2018 (the 25th anniversary) But DH seems to think we can do both fulls, one in 2013 and one in 2018.
I just want to do something spectacular for our 20th wedding anniversary and I thought it would be cool to have medals with the 20 on it. Oh and I'm turning 40 in 2013 as well so I had all these grand ideas!!

IT would be a terrific way to commemorate both your anniversary and your birthday. Can't wait to hear what you decide.

Hi everyone! I'm a long-time DIS lurker who just started a WISH Journal two weeks ago. I didn't manage to sit down and read this thread through -- and now we're 20 pages in! Wow!

So, quickly... because I have a lot of catching up to do!

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.
My name is Sunny, and I am a runner. A slow runner, but a runner. I live in Seattle with my DH and two freakishly adorable cats. We're registered for the Goofy Challenge in 2013, so I'd like to drop a lot of this extra weight before then. I mean, 39.3 miles is hard enough without carrying an extra 40 pounds!!!

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.

I have a plan for my long-term goals -- this challenge I see as a great chance to kick things off. My overall goal is to lose 39.3 pounds before January -- even though I think that may be too ambitious and I don't want to set myself up for failure. That said, these first two weeks have gone rather absurdly well...

I started drinking plenty of water in January of this year, so I make sure and get at least three liters a day. Sometimes I think it helps me get my steps in -- having to go to the bathroom all the time! I should try to take my multivitamin every day -- not sure why that has always been a challenge for me! So I'm going to work on keeping up my water intake and remembering to take my vitamins!

I've been using the MyFitnessPal app for 12 days now and am really impressed so far. It has really made me think about what I eat. I also try to journal before I actually eat -- helps me make better choices. I plan to keep journaling every day and staying within my calorie target.

I have been running regularly/irregularly -- one long run a week, and that's it. But I have also been going to Zumba and yoga these past two weeks, and tomorrow I start boot camp (yikes). So I plan to exercise more -- and get more shorter runs in during the week.

I also plan to participate in this challenge! As long as I don't let myself get days and days behind again, I should be okay!!

QOTD Saturday, June 2, 2012: Are you prepared to reach your goals?

I am! I feel excited and yet also calm -- I know what I need to do to lose weight, I just haven't done it for a while. I also know that unexpected things will pop up from time to time... and that there will be good days and bad days, but the key is to just keep moving forward. I also think that y'all will be a great additional support system, so thanks in advance!

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?

For me, yes definitely! What?!? A Red Vine is 35 calories? Well, maybe I'll have one, rather than a whole box. Just being aware of what I'm putting in my mouth really helps. And as my friend Dre pointed out, discovering that there are 300 calories in a bag of Doritos means she didn't really need them, after all.

I know that journaling helped me lose weight a decade ago with WW -- so it's always the first thing I turn to when I decide to try and lose weight. Stop journaling = gain weight. I suspect that one could become disciplined and not need to journal... but I also suspect I'm not that person!

Finally -- having just done a lot of laundry -- I figured that the laundry detergent on the HH challenge was because we would all have extra sweaty exercise clothes to wash!

Good luck everyone, and I am looking forward to getting to know you all better!

Welcome!!!

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.
I'm Alice - I live in the suburbs of Seattle. Married with 3 older kids (22, 20 & 19) who live at home and we are all Disney Dorks! :rotfl: I love traveling, camping, reading and my silly cats. I am lucky to have a somewhat flexible work schedule.

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.
Log, log, log my food! It is my biggest downfall!! I have no problem hitting the gym 4-5 days a week + getting in walks, runs, etc. but wow - I have a problem with negligent eating. My goal is to lose 15 pounds, reduce my bodyfat by 25% and gain control of my sweet tooth. I plan to continue to develop as a runner.

QOTD Saturday, June 2, 2012: Are you prepared to reach your goals?
I want to keep adding to my "toolbox" everyday! As of right now I've joined this BL Challenge and the June Exercise Challenge, both of which give great support here on the DIS. :goodvibes I've signed on for another BLC at my gym. I work with a trainer and our team there supports each other during bootcamps, workouts and weigh-ins. My biggest challenge is always with myself.

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss? YES!...see above. I have a love/hate relationship with cheese, carbs and chocolate... :headache:

Thanks so much to everyone here on the WISH boards - I wish success for all of you! :thumbsup2

Glad you're here with us!

Had a great day, only 1 point over yesterday and OP today. Went over DS's class schedule for next year - budget cuts tooks away a couple of his classes :headache:, and he had trouble deciding what else he wanted to do. He ended up with two science courses (Physics and AP Chemistry) and a semester each of Pyschology and Philosophy. He will be busy!

He has final exams this week, and will be trying to catch the transit of Venus Tuesday afternoon...luckily the exams for the next day are his two easy classes, since he will be watching it from about 6 to sunset. I need to drive him since there is no clear view of the western horizon nearby. Hauled my old telescope out, but could not get it working properly. Will need to work on that so he can use it during summer break.

Have a great day everyone :goodvibes!

Your DS sounds like my busy DD. She took AP Chem this year and had to really work hard!

The venus watching sounds like fun. Makes me wish I hadn't ditched my telescope about 10 years ago.... but we never used it.

Got a quick 20 minute mile in today. I actually maxed out at 7.8 miles and hour for a minute or so. Trail was muddy and the grass in the field was wet and tall so we bagged out at a mile instead of the 1.7. It started to rain too. But I felt good, legs didn't cramp, and we ran probably 3/4 of the way. I actually could have done more but DS11's knee started to act up.

I wish I could hit the treadmill but DH still hasn't helped me get the crap off and take it off the blocks. I will unbury it myself tomorrow then pester the hell out of him until he brings it back down. Rain for the next 4 days, so I need it!

I'm going to go bathe everyone and then head to bed. We need to be on a 5am schedule in 3 weeks so I have got to start preparing for it.

Night all!! And good morning to Christopher and luvpoohandcompany (LP&C)

Good for you for getting out there in this weather! My TM is calling and calling, but I'm trying to ignore it!;)

Evening all! Haven't had any time to post lately except short little ones on the podcast cruise thread! We leave in 3 weeks!!!!!!

Hi! I'm Tracey and I've lost track of the number of BL Challenges I've done. It has really helped me stay within 10 pounds of where I want to be! I've been a weight keeper and finished 2nd in one of the challenges.

I'm a wife, Mom, massage therapist. school and church volunteer, chauffeur, maid, cook, and former teacher. We love everything Disney, movies, and all sorts of music and games!

We are going on PCC3.0 in 3 weeks and then spending a week at Disney after so I'm running around like a crazy person getting all the final touches done. I'm making shirts for Pirate Night on the cruise for the day we visit WWoHP.

This week is going to be totally crazy! DD7 is having minor plastic surgery in the morning to repair an issue on her left ear lobe that she has had since birth. We have to leave here before 7 and the surgery is at 9:45. We have her DSi to keep her occupied and I bought her the new Brave book that we will read while waiting. DD12 is in a play this week so on top of school work she will be having 2 dress rehearsals. This is also her last week of soccer. We had our game rained out yesterday so we will play one on Saturday which she will miss due to the play and then play another on Sunday. End of school year activities are getting going at DD7s school so I will be there 2 times this week during the day and then again one night plus I have to work Thursday night and miss Ash's opening night. I'll be there the other 2 performances. I have to make goodies for intermission and something for the cast party on Saturday.

Probably won't have time to work out this week but with my schedule I won't have much time to eat either. Possibly can squeeze some time in tomorrow afternoon if Izzie is doing ok and then I actually think I am home all day on Wednesday so not as bad as I thought. I did ok this weekend and am drinking a lot of water. Did all of my crunches tonight.

Sorry that I'm babbling but I'm feeling totally overwhelmed and excited about the coming weeks with my family. We've had a rough year and a half with my mom being sick with cancer so we really need this vacation! Mom is doing well and they are here visiting us until after we get back from WDW!

I think we're heading to bed soon so I'll try and post tomorrow afternoon!

TTFN :tigger:

Busy days for you, as usual Tracey. Glad to hear that your Mom is doing well enough to come for a visit.

Umm...... you are absolutely ADORABLE!! Good for you with the 5k.

QOTD Monday, June 4, 2012: Which of these motivational ideas can you use on Motivational Monday? Or do you have one of your own? Just make sure it comes from your laughing place!:lmao:

Another SUPER DUPER QOTD! And another adorable graphic!

I'm going with......

Anything is possible. No fear, no self-doubts, no negative self talk, no self-criticism, no worries, no destructive anxieties or thoughts of failure.

If you had told me in any time from about 1998 through about 2007 that I would hit 130-135 and STAY THERE for years, I would have called you a LIAR! I always figured I would be LUCKY to get back to about 160-170 and consider myself HAPPY to be there. But honest to God..... if I can hit the 130's and STAY THERE, then ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! :thumbsup2 And if I MADE IT HERE, then I know I can STAY HERE!!

We ALL need the reminder.

Love that. You could extend it to say "Don't use your BODY as a trash can". I am STUNNED on a DAILY basis by the CRAP that people put in their bodies and feed to their kids. Honestly, even some folks here have surprised me with their bad choices. People need to remember it isn't ALL about calories and/or carbs. A calorie isn't JUST a calorie. Sure, you can stay OP and count every calorie and have most of your calories come in the form of Little Debbies and Coke and technically still be OP.... but you are poisoning yourself slowly.

Great job changing up the workouts!

Hey friends I have been MIA while on vacation. Today is our last day at Disney and tomorrow is universal before heading home! I have been indulging but definitely ready to get back on track! Talk to you all soon!!

Hope the trip has been terrific!

Happy Monday morning friends! Does DisRadio really think that we are so desperate for Disney music that we need Country Bear Jamboree in Japanese at 9 am!!??:confused3

Well.... after a cold wet weekend, we are onto a cold wet Monday. The weather report for this week isn't great, but looks like it may clear up in time for DS's 8th grade semi-formal on Friday night. Guess it's time to get him a shirt and pants for this occasion!

I'm scheduled to work for the gym teacher Tuesday and Thursday this week and I was looking forward to getting paid to get some exercise by taking the kids outside for walks and hikes, but with the weather report as it is, I think we will be doing stations inside..... boring!

I've already made one bed (mine), emptied the dishwasher, thrown in a load of towels, and carried two clean loads up stairs, so I at least have my housework underway. I still need to hit the TM, strip the kids beds and wash their sheets and remake the beds. DD and I have chiropractic appointments this evening, followed by a quick workout at the Y for her, then Rainbow Girls. She can get a ride home from Rainbow, so I will be able to drop her off and head out and be home myself by about 7pm. I will throw something in the crockpot this morning for dinner. Meal plans for this week didn't get done yet, so that is why tonight is still up in the air.

Tomorrow afternoon is dentist visits for the kids and I, then DD to swim for a shorter than usual workout, as she has a big research paper due Wed. Thursday night is academic awards night at the High school and DD got an invite :woohoo: so we will be up there for that.... and then, as I mentioned, DS's 8th grade semi-formal on Friday night. Saturday is fairly free, but Sunday is Rainbow Girls installation, which will eat up most of the afternoon for DD and myself.

Well, with all of that on my schedule for this week, I suppose I need to get moving!

Quick question to everyone..........

How would you all feel about me posting a weekly recipe here (and of course, posting it on the recipe thread as well)? I wouldn't always be able to post calories and/or Points (or PP) for them. But I have several recipes I've been thinking about sharing and I've seen several people mention needing to change up their routines with maybe some newer things. So I thought a weekly recipe here on the main thread might be helpful. Just wondering.

Btw..... if you are ever having a BRAINLESS Monday morning and trying to get DisRadio on your computer, do NOT.... I repeat DO NOT type in Disradio.com!!!!!! May I just say..... How is that legal?? Scary to think that my kids could stumble upon something like that! Now to go figure out how to get rid of my cookies on the computer!................P

This is mine!!! I'm usually such a debbie downer and self hater! But for some reason I woke up in a stellar mood today so I'm running with it!
You can do anything!! :cool1:

Wow.... I do talk a LOT!

Yeah you do, but it's not just blah blah blah. It is really great, important stuff!! We need you, so don't ever shut up!!!

you're off to great places
today is your day,
your mountain is waiting
so get on your way.

I wanted to post this too. I found it on Pinterest a while ago and had shared before but I think it needs repeating. And while this is focused on girls, I think it's just as important for our boys to know they are awesome too! I bolded the most important part!

Waking Up Full of Awesome:
There was a time when you were five years old, and you woke up full of awesome. You knew you were awesome. You loved yourself. You thought you were beautiful, even with missing teeth and messy hair and mismatched socks inside your grubby sneakers. You loved your body, and the things it could do. You thought you were strong. You knew you were smart. Do you still have it? The awesome. Did someone take it from you? Did you let them? Did you hand it over, because someone told you weren’t beautiful enough, thin enough, smart enough, good enough? Why the hell would you listen to them? Did you consider they might be full of crap? Wouldn’t that be nuts, to tell my little girl below that in another five or ten years she might hate herself because she doesn’t look like a starving and Photoshopped fashion model? Or even more bizarre, that she should be sexy over smart, beautiful over bold? Are you freaking kidding me? Look at her. She is full of awesome. You were, once. Maybe you still are. Maybe you are in the process of getting it back. All I know is that if you aren’t waking up feeling like this about yourself, you are really missing out.--- How do we keep our daughters full of awesome.

Morning everyone! I had a good OP day yesterday with a 40 minute walk so I'm feeling good.

Really looking forward to this afternoon as I have a deep tissue massage for my legs - ahhhhh.

I hope you all have a great day. :)

Actually, you should praise your dog - I work long and hard getting my dogs to respect me enough to take second chair!

I wish I had some advice that I could guarantee would work. I can tell you NOT to scream, NOT to pick up your dog and NOT to run. Other than that, it's a case by case situation and effective action will depend on how intent the strange dog is on harming you or your dog.

I'm not worried (for the most part) that MY dog will be injured - I have Akbash, which will seriously injure or kill another dog if provoked (they're used to guard sheep and other livestock against wolves, bear, mountain lions, etc.) So the first thing i do when approached by a strange dog is put mine behind me! Do NOT pick your dog up - you increase the chance that the strange dog will lunge upwards and increase your chances of being knocked over. I think make myself as BIG as possible, face the stranger and say NO in my deepest She Who Must Be Obeyed voice. No screaming, no nervousness ( I know it's hard). However, I do NOT make eye contact - this is a challenge and for many dogs, hard eye contact will turn a "hey, get out of my territory" situation into an all-out brawl.

I personally do not carry a stick or pepper spray. I'm not coordinated enough for a stick...I'd end up tripping myself and on the ground is not where i want to be in a dog fight! Pepper spray can be tricky to use...if the wind shifts, I (or MY dog) end up with a face full and blinded by pepper spray is not where I want to be in a dog fight! I've known others that have had success turning away a strange dog with an air siren - on of the little hand-held ones. They're piercingly loud and at least the owner will probably come investigate.

If a big Listen to Me Right Now NO doesn't work (and it does 99% of the time), then i will wait until the dog is close enough to kick and i aim for the shoulder. Seriously. I love dogs, I'm involved in breed rescue and I routinely foster dogs. I will also do what it takes to protect myself and my dog from a strange, off-leash dog with a numbskull owner.

By this time, the numbskull has usually hustled over assuring me that their dog is all bark and no bite. Uh huh. I used to gently remind them that mine may not be - that doesn't make much difference to a numbskull that doesn't care enough about his dog to keep them safely on a leash. I then progressed to a tongue-lashing - it made me feel better but doesn't make much difference to a numbskull either.

I call the police now in these situations. Yup, I do. And I insist that they come out, although I admit that I know most of the officers from doing tracking and schutzhund with the K-9's. And I wait around until the officers come. And i ask that the owner be cited. And I appear before the magistrate to make sure that numbskull owners are fined. Numbskulls seem to care about their wallets. YMMV on this approach, depending on the type of area in which you live.

Wish i could be more help. Obedience training isn't real effective with idiots who don't understand that their dog MUST be under their control at ALL times...be it leash control or behind a fence. Voice control only works if the owner is willing to put serious time and effort into training...and numbskulls generally don't qualify.

Thank you so much! This was very helpful! I will admit, I did not take a walk this morning because of fear. It's something I am going to have to overcome. However, I did go to a gym and sign up for a free training session tomorrow. I *hate* being the fattest one when I walk in the door with tons of skinny people.....:sad1: I am glad I have a place here to come and pour it all out!

My motivation for today is ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

Laura, I love this picture!! That's awesome. I have also started telling myself, especially with dessert type foods, that if I don't love it, I'm not going to eat it. It's just not worth it.

I love the "Laughter Feels Good" and "Anything is Possible" quotes :thumbsup2 I love to laugh and it really does feel good! Anything is possible is something I need to remind myself often. I have to remind myself that Yes, I CAN do it!! It's funny that today's question is about kids because just this morning I went for a walk and ran part of the way, and when I wanted to quit running I thought of my son and how he makes it look so easy! I told myself that I made him, gosh darnit, some of that must be in me somewhere!! :rotfl2: hahahaha!!!
