Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

Well, funny you mention this. DH and I talked this morning and I said "I think I will do the 1/2 and we'll aim for the 25th anniversary of the full and our anniversary". He came back into the room and said "why can't we do both". I'm like "both what?, the 1/2 and the full?" He said "Both the 20th and the 25th" I was like  and

So, now I'm not sure what the heck we are doing!!
I have until June 15 to decide because that is when I want to pay for the race.

I'm not sure I understand. Is the 25th anniversary of the full marathon 2013 and you want to do the 1/2 marathon for 2013? or is it two different years? Either way, good luck making the decision! I change my mind about our trips over and over until the day before we leave, so knowing that I had to make a final decision in two weeks would put me over the edge! :goodvibes

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

Yup a definitely for me as well, but the journal is not an end all be all sadly. For example, yesterday was dh's family reunion. They are West Virginia folk with West Virginia cooking. I did the best that I could (for the most part, the butterscotch pie called me twice! :rolleyes1) and logged every bite, but the app says I was under my goal for the day. I really doubt that given the amount of fat and butter and god knows what else they use when they cook. I was up .4 this morning, so I think that my instincts were spot on.

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?

I'm in the yes, definitely! camp. I find that tracking is just as important for maintaining as it was for losing for me. I feel like it's a measure of accountability that I don't have otherwise - I would definitely slip and here and there until I'm out of control. This weekend has been a bit slippy for me on tracking, and I'm so conscious of it, trying to make sure I go back and note all those extra nibbles. Must stop grazing! :)

I have a pasta sauce on the stove made from all sorts of leftover things - that'll be dinner tonight with a mishmash of pasta remnants. (Can you tell I'm starting to clear the pantry before we go on vacation?) The sauce has half a pound of 93% ground beef, half a bag of pearl onions (which should peel off as the sauce simmers all afternoon), most of a box of frozen chopped broccoli (thawed and squeezed dry a big), half a bottle of pasta sauce, a can of crushed tomatoes, and some seasonings. It's starting to smell really good in here!

We're waiting on a Craigslist buyer for the dresser that was in DD7's room - we redid her room a bit yesterday to keep it from being such a tight squeeze. I'm so glad to have people lining up for this behemoth of a dresser right away! The cash from that will offset the cost of her new, smaller dresser and nightstand.

I'm hoping to do another C25K workout tonight. I've been getting back into it hardcore since the toe mended, and it feels great! I love going out at 8pm, as we still have light until almost 9 - just need a spritz of bug spray...

Off to track that Firehouse Subs sandwich I had for lunch...

XO

Hi everyone! I just decided to join - and even if I am a few days late, at least I manage to join in week 1!

I need to lose several pounds as all my clothes don't fit that well any more and if I spend more money on new clothes it has to be because the old ones are too wide, not too tight as it would be the case right now!

I hope all of us will have a successful summer! :thumbsup2

Happy Sunday all!

Hi Carol! :wave2: Nice to see you! Good luck with the accounting system change.

I'm another one in the 50's age group. I really have been so much happier and more content since I hit this decade even though I don't feel a day over 35! ;)

I did a 4 mile race today. It was lots of fun and i was happy with my time. Now im relaxing with my youngest son while my dh and older son are at a football game. I love reading everyones plans to reach there goals. We are all on the right path to get to our happy places.

Congrats on your GREAT race yesterday, Lindsay. :yay: You are so speedy!

Buffy, I believe that Lindsay is a maybe for the WDW Marathon W/E this year.

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

I know for me personally when I am diligently tracking I do much, much better than I do if I'm sort of tracking.

Also, the big eye opener for me was how FEW calories I burned exercising. I weigh just below 200 pounds. How many calories do you think I burned running my half marathon, 13.1 miles, last week-end? 2000? 3000? 4000? Nope, 1567. :scared1: An amount of calories that could easily be consumed in a trip through the drive through at McDonald's if I had regular soda.

YES, DEFINITELY! I am way more cautious of what I eat when I see my total calories for the day dwindle with each bite.

Absolutely! ::yes:: It's much easier to stop trouble in it's tracks than to try and make up for it later for sure.

Another fun thing to do with tracking is to figure out what you have to do to work off that indulgence before you eat it. Often a couple of hours of walking doesn't sound like a good trade for a cookie or two.

I've noticed that when I don't track food I tend to go off plan. I've gotten better with it over time. I was at Disney for a week in May and actually lost weight and didn't track a bite I ate. I feel "off" when I don't track what I'm eating. I've gotten so used to doing it its just become second nature.

You know you are on the path to success when tracking is now second nature! :goodvibes

I think that tracking food is definitely important to a weight loss journey. I know that when I have been my most successful it is when I would write down every bite of food, every minute of exercise, and every glass of water. I start out well with tracking, but then after a few weeks I slowly fall of the wagon. I think the easiest thing is to try and remember what motivated me to lose weight in the first place.

If you can even track on most days you will be ahead! :flower3:

I got the same result from the quiz. That is my biggest problem too. I get this all or nothing attitude. I know that about myself, and I still let it beat me.

Maybe try making your all or nothing into smaller segments, like for that day or even that meal? :goodvibes

I find it helps not only in the accountability on a daily basis but also provides a record to which I can refer when I hit the rough times when the scale does not move. It helps me ensure that I don't eat too many calories but also helps make sure I eat enough that my metabolism does not shut down on me.

Very good point about making sure that you are eating enough calories, too, so that your body doesn't go into starvation mode. :thumbsup2

luvpoohandcompany, I'm very sorry for your loss and your tough day.

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

This one is a tough one for me to answer. I want to say all three I can see it definitely healping as having what you eat right there is black and white is a bit of a reality check. You can also use it to see trends and maybe how to overcome the issues. The maybe answer because some people just aren't geared to learning that way. And the no because people still lose weight and don't track.

I am kinda on the fence here because I am not sure where I myself fall on this. So I am going to experiment. Going to track my food for a few days and see if it helps any. Told you I was going to take any and all advice during this challenge. Come Friday morning weigh in I will see if it helped.

Be sure and let us know how it works out for you! :goodvibes It is true that what worked in the past may or may not work now so it is good to be flexible and try different things.

And that was a very nice reply to luvpoohandcompany!

Without a doubt, YES! I love to graze (does anyone else feel like a cow when you use that statement? and keeping a found journal has helped me so much! I the use MyFitnessPal app on my Droid. What does everyone else use?

I use MFP as well on my iPhone. I had a lot of fun scanning my food when I first used it but I can do just as well typing things in now too. I use it on my computer alot as well. I have tried sparkpeople for tracking also. :goodvibes

According to Sparkspeople, I am prepared for success. i do know it's a long, hard row to hoe and I'm ready to do what it takes.

i do think that tracking food is VITAL to success. I know that I, along with countless others, do not have a good grasp on portion sizes and the calories in food. Since i now have to track carbs, I've been unpleasantly surprised numerous times - even when i THINK I've made healthy choices.

Judging from yesterday, I'm going to struggle through June. My son graduates from high school this Friday and the graduation parties have already started. Three open houses yesterday and 2 more today. I've lost track of how many more we've been invited to, but healthy choices seem to be missing from party menus so far. Not a vegetable to be found! while i didn't have any trouble bypassing the cake and cookies, after 6 hours, I needed something that wasn't sausage or nacho cheese!

Those kind of outings are tough. Eating ahead of time doesn't help much when you are gone for 6 hours. Is there some portable snack you could bring or volunteer to bring the fruit and veggie tray? :confused3 Not to mention graduation is an emotional time, too.

Pamela, hope the swim meet is drier today! :fish: Good luck to your DD!

YES, YES, YES! Tracking is a huge part of being successful in my weight loss success - it's way to easy for me to lose track of how much creamer I put in my coffee if I don't measure it out! I also like looking back on my food journal on weeks that I've had "good" loses (any loss is good, but you know what I mean!) so I can re-create it.

Just like Pamela mentioned it is nice to be able to look back and learn from your past successes! ::yes::

I hope this isn't off topic, and if so, I will change it to a PM. But, it does have to do with exercise and the challenge since this is my main form of working out.

So sorry about the bad experience with the dog. Can you cross to the other side of the street or not go down that particular street when you walk? I know that the dog owner should be responsible but unfortunately they are not always. :sad2:

Buffy, my only advise is don't ask what you should do about marathon week-end on the marathon week-end thread because they will talk you into doing Goofy! ;)

Lynda, great job on turning your splurge into a success! :goodvibes

super quick - i'm popping in to say that i'm doing the challenge. i will send my weight to sue on friday. just started a new job and my DIS time has been severely cut back. like, to zero

Hi Nancy! :wave2: Nice to see you! :flower3: Hang in there with the new job!

Buffy, Nancy is doing the full marathon in January. :worship:

How do you multi-quote in a post?

At the bottom right hand corner of post are a few boxes -- click the one with the + sign for each quote you want to multi-quote. You can make them shorter or highlight what you are referring to -- just be sure the quote starts with the info about the quote and ends with /QUOTE (in brackets). It's fun once you get the hang of it.

Hope that everyone is enjoying their Sunday. Making sure we have clean laundry for the rest of the week. :laundy:

Buffy, Rose just posted on Facebook that she is doing the full, too. :worship: Lots of company no matter which race you choose! :smickey:

Afternoon everyone!!

Well, that attempt at getting to bed at a decent hour didn't happen. :( I was on the phone with my best friend as she drove back to her house from her mom's. It was really late at night and she wanted someone to keep her company while she drove.

Today is my "OFF" day from exercising. This TOM is getting more intense and well I'm craving seafood like you wouldn't believe. So wanna take a guess where we're having dinner? Yep, RED LOBSTER. I've only ate a peanut butter sandwich and cheese stick so far today. I'm working on finishing up my 1st 32 ounce glass of water. I'm not really worried about going crazy at dinner because I pretty much already have in mind what I want to eat.

I hope everyone is having a great Sunday!

This is soooooo true. I need to print it and put it on my fridge!

How do you multi-quote in a post?

The little +" sign next to the quote word. Click that on every post you want to quote, then hit reply. You can post in between each quote.

:goodvibes

The 20th anniversary race for the marathon is in 2013. I want to run it but I don't know if I can keep up the pace. They also have a 1/2 marathon the same weekend. So my thought was to do the 1/2 in 2013 and the full in 2018 (the 25th anniversary) But DH seems to think we can do both fulls, one in 2013 and one in 2018.
I just want to do something spectacular for our 20th wedding anniversary and I thought it would be cool to have medals with the 20 on it. Oh and I'm turning 40 in 2013 as well so I had all these grand ideas!!

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2936354

I started a new BL run/walker thread if anyone would like to join us.:goodvibes

Sweet! I'm there!

Hi everyone! I'm a long-time DIS lurker who just started a WISH Journal two weeks ago. I didn't manage to sit down and read this thread through -- and now we're 20 pages in! Wow!

So, quickly... because I have a lot of catching up to do!

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.
My name is Sunny, and I am a runner. A slow runner, but a runner. :) I live in Seattle with my DH and two freakishly adorable cats. We're registered for the Goofy Challenge in 2013, so I'd like to drop a lot of this extra weight before then. I mean, 39.3 miles is hard enough without carrying an extra 40 pounds!!!

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.

I have a plan for my long-term goals -- this challenge I see as a great chance to kick things off. My overall goal is to lose 39.3 pounds before January -- even though I think that may be too ambitious and I don't want to set myself up for failure. That said, these first two weeks have gone rather absurdly well...

I started drinking plenty of water in January of this year, so I make sure and get at least three liters a day. Sometimes I think it helps me get my steps in -- having to go to the bathroom all the time! ;) I should try to take my multivitamin every day -- not sure why that has always been a challenge for me! So I'm going to work on keeping up my water intake and remembering to take my vitamins!

I've been using the MyFitnessPal app for 12 days now and am really impressed so far. It has really made me think about what I eat. I also try to journal before I actually eat -- helps me make better choices. I plan to keep journaling every day and staying within my calorie target.

I have been running regularly/irregularly -- one long run a week, and that's it. But I have also been going to Zumba and yoga these past two weeks, and tomorrow I start boot camp (yikes). So I plan to exercise more -- and get more shorter runs in during the week.

I also plan to participate in this challenge! As long as I don't let myself get days and days behind again, I should be okay!!

QOTD Saturday, June 2, 2012: Are you prepared to reach your goals?

I am! I feel excited and yet also calm -- I know what I need to do to lose weight, I just haven't done it for a while. I also know that unexpected things will pop up from time to time... and that there will be good days and bad days, but the key is to just keep moving forward. I also think that y'all will be a great additional support system, so thanks in advance!

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?

For me, yes definitely! What?!? A Red Vine is 35 calories? Well, maybe I'll have one, rather than a whole box. Just being aware of what I'm putting in my mouth really helps. And as my friend Dre pointed out, discovering that there are 300 calories in a bag of Doritos means she didn't really need them, after all.

I know that journaling helped me lose weight a decade ago with WW -- so it's always the first thing I turn to when I decide to try and lose weight. Stop journaling = gain weight. I suspect that one could become disciplined and not need to journal... but I also suspect I'm not that person!

Finally -- having just done a lot of laundry -- I figured that the laundry detergent on the HH challenge was because we would all have extra sweaty exercise clothes to wash!

Good luck everyone, and I am looking forward to getting to know you all better!

LOL Lisa! I have already posted on the WDW Marathon 2013 thread.
They are all actually pretty supportive of what ever I want to do.
I'd love to do the Goofy, someday, but I would surely die if I did it in 2013!! Hell, some day I'm gonna go Dopey (5k, 1/2 and full)!! But I'll save that for the day that I am 100% fit.

What a chatty bunch already!!! Day 1 and I was behind 7 pages already!!!

Introduce yourself - My name is Janis I turn 53 in August. I live a little north of Boston with my DH and DS 15 and our little 2 yo mutt Patches. I work full time nights - and have worked a night shift for the past 25 years. DH and I joke that is why we are still married - we never see each other!!!

This first week is a week of celebrations for us. June 3 - my 33rd anniversary working for the US Govt. June 5 is DS 54th birthday, June 8 is our 27th wedding anniversary. And I hate to say it - but the honeymoon is over. :rotfl: DH and DS are going on a camping trip with Scouts that day for the weekend.

The Plan - keep plugging away. Weigh and Measure, journal a little more closely than I have been. I need to increase my walking - in anticipation of my trip to WDW in August.

During the last challenge we talked about picking an "anchor" something that when we think of that "anchor" it will help to keep us on our path. My wonderful DH remembered mine was a compass. For Mother's day he gave me a wonderful bracelet with a compass on it. I will put a plug in for the company - Alex and Ani. The jewelry is made of all recycled materials and made locally in Rhode Island.

compass.jpg

He is so supportive and loving. I am very lucky. We will be celebrating his birthday on Sunday and he has requested fish. So it is between a local place - Turner's Seafood and Legal Seafood.

I promise to keep up with all of you!!!! :beach:

Janis

Janis ... you have a great husband. I remember on the last thread you mentioning the compass. Beautiful bracelet!

Happy Saturday all! :goodvibes

Way to go running in the rain, Fran! :umbrella:

There are a couple of Galloway apps on Lolo one for the 5K and another for the 10K that let you sync the beat of the music to your pace. It will speed it up or slow it down as the case may be and not enough so you really notice. You can vary it during your workout, too. They are $3.99 each. Plus Galloway is coaching you. I always like to listen to his southern accent.

Hey Lisa, what is Lolo? Is it like the Apple store? I would be very interested in finding music that I can find a beat too ... and I would love someone to "coach" me as I am running. This sounds great.

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

Have a great evening all! ::MickeyMo

I know when I track my food I do SO much better. It makes me really STOP and think about what I eat. I also find on MFP that I keep better track of my water. When I drink all 8 glasses of water, I am hydrated and don't reach for food as much.

Whew finally made it through all the chit-chat:)
I have made a PLAN for this challenge
1. Lose 12 lbs
2. Exercise at least 20 minutes 5xweek
3. Eat 5 portions of fruit and veg daily

I took the quiz and am prepared for sucess:banana:
Dreading today as it is cemetary Sunday here and I dont normally go but it's the 1st since my dad died and my mum needs the support! I find it hard without my dad but it's so much harder for her so I will suck it up, fight the tears and go! Wish me luck. Sorry I know that this isnt weight related other than I am typing this so that I'm not eating junk (thanks Pamela for the advice last challenge):) Cant wait for tomorrow.
Hope you all have a great OP day:)

I am so sorry this is a tough day for you. You are in my thoughts. And, I also agree. It is okay to cry and be sad for your dad. And it is okay for your mom to see that.

Quote of the day

Eat for the body you want, not the body you have

In going along with the theme of the QOTD, I am going with this quote.
Pamela taught me (she teaches me a lot of stuff!!) that we will never be able to eat like a skinny person, we will always have to eat like we are fat. She did say it more eloquently than I did though! LOL
But it's true. We won't get to the end of the journey and then eat and be like we were before. This is a lifestyle change, a forever change. It's something we will have to maintain and work at for the rest of our lives. Sounds daunting, but it's worth it if it gives us 20 -30 more years on this earth to be with family, friends and to make a difference in the world.

I LOVE this quote!!!!! I think I am going to put it on my frig. ... or I should wear it like a badge to remind me all day long! :lmao:

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.
I'm Alice - I live in the suburbs of Seattle. Married with 3 older kids (22, 20 & 19) who live at home and we are all Disney Dorks! :rotfl: I love traveling, camping, reading and my silly cats. I am lucky to have a somewhat flexible work schedule.

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.
Log, log, log my food! It is my biggest downfall!! I have no problem hitting the gym 4-5 days a week + getting in walks, runs, etc. but wow - I have a problem with negligent eating. My goal is to lose 15 pounds, reduce my bodyfat by 25% and gain control of my sweet tooth. I plan to continue to develop as a runner.

QOTD Saturday, June 2, 2012: Are you prepared to reach your goals?
I want to keep adding to my "toolbox" everyday! As of right now I've joined this BL Challenge and the June Exercise Challenge, both of which give great support here on the DIS. :goodvibes I've signed on for another BLC at my gym. I work with a trainer and our team there supports each other during bootcamps, workouts and weigh-ins. My biggest challenge is always with myself.

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss? YES!...see above. I have a love/hate relationship with cheese, carbs and chocolate... :headache:

Thanks so much to everyone here on the WISH boards - I wish success for all of you! :thumbsup2

So good to see you Lindsay! Thanks for the kind words Pamela!

Today was so-so OP. We ate lunch at my grandparents' and we had a pretty large meal. I had lots of salad, but also had sausages. I have a hunch they weren't GF. We can't figure out sausages. One grocery store told me that their brand of sausage is not GF, but why? Filler? I had GF bread and some mushrooms, but grandma cooks with lots of oil. Overall, it could have been much worse. I did not eat any munchies or dessert. Of course, no GF options pretty much prevented that, but I managed to avoid grandma making me some fried eggs.

It was a good day hanging out with one of my cousins. She and I are a lot alike and we enjoy talking nonstop with one another. We spent some time at Wal-Mart and got some lessons in bad parenting. :scared1:

I am going to attempt to track what I've eaten for the day on myfitnesspal. I made my lunch for tomorrow and now need to pick out and iron my clothes. I am due into work earlier than usual and need to be more prepared than usual.

Have a great, OP day tomorrow everyone!

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person

I totally believe journaling is necessary. It is so easy to grab a little bit here or there and forget about it later. I do WW, so I have it open on my desk at work, at home when I am on the computer here or can just grab my phone as I have the app for it. They all sync up, so it keeps me honest, and I know what I have been grazing on all day.

I bought an extra set of measuring cups and spoons, so I always have one set available!!!

My birthday is August 7 - when's yours?? My DS is a Scout - and he is asking for a solar charger that hangs on a back pack to charge his phone. Something you might want to look into!!!!

I have a mish-mash of different cup sets in my cupboard, and lots of spoon sets in my drawer. I took them off their rings and put them all into a small box in there for that purpose.

My b'day is August 9! I have an extended charger that I bought for Disney and some of our other trips, but I just miscalculated. After we found the first cache, I wanted to go find another, but DS wanted to take the long way around, so we were out there longer than I thought we would be. Then I was so turned around I kept it running to find our way out. So we got out of the woods - just not at the right spot! It died just before we stepped out. I only went in with 40%, and had everything running on full for a good much of the time.

Without a doubt, YES! I love to graze (does anyone else feel like a cow when you use that statement?) and keeping a found journal has helped me so much! :wizard: I the use MyFitnessPal app on my Droid. What does everyone else use?

I use WW online, both on my computer and on my phone. It calculates and keeps track of my splurge points and lets me store my favorites - I am a creature of habit! I've used it for a few years now, although not all the time - thus this challenge! When I use it, I lose weight.

Hi! :dogdance: I have question for you...maybe you can help? I walk every morning between 1.5-3 miles with my calm (and obedient) Boston Terrier. Today, while we were about 1 mile from home, a dog came charging at us from the back yard of a house we were passing. He was not on a leash, and obviously was not fenced. He had teeth bared and was growling/barking.

Of course, I screamed and then immediately prayed. The dog stopped but continued to growl, bark and show us his (VERY POINTY!) teeth. What did my dog do? Like a wonderful protective dog, he hid behind my legs. :rotfl: Eventually, the owner came and got the dog and kept saying "he doesn't bite, just barks". I was like, whatever! Put your dog on a leash!

Afterward, I was very shaken and nervous. ( I even fell at one point.) I have just started exercising in the past 3 weeks and walking my neighborhood is the easiest way for me to get my miles in. Do you have any suggestions for safety while walking my dog? Would carrying a stick help? I really have no idea because my dog (and all other dogs I have owned) are so obedient and peaceful. Thanks in advance!

How scary for you! So glad it turned out OK. There are alot of dogs that go crazy in our area when I walk by, not sure what would happen if I had a dog with me. So far they have been behind fences, I haven't had one rush me.

If you raise a stick, an animal might see that as a threat. I would try and avoid that route, try a different one. I am with you though, owners should be in control of their dogs at all times. I had dogs growing up, and mine was always on a leash (except the few times she managed to escape from out yard). And she was very gentle and would never bite.

I LOVE this quote - I will have to use it. It makes perfect sense, and is very true. I have been reminding myself the last few days - you don't need it, it won't help...it is the old motivation I used to have raising its head again, and this quote sums it up perfectly!

In the last challenge I decided Fridays would be my splurge day, because my family loves pizza Fridays. But then I spent the rest of the week trying to make up for it, so my progress was slow. This past Friday we did have pizza Friday, but I got a thin crust vegie pizza and only ate two!! It was good and I felt good. Baby steps
Lynda

Good for you stopping at two! We had pizza Fridays, and I always had thin crust veggie, but have trouble stopping. And then there are the left overs! DH usually picks it up on the way home. If I had a good day with Free Friday Lunch at work, he can pick me up a chinese dish I dissected once to figure out the points (steamed veges with brown sauce). But if it was a "bad" lunch, I eat light that evening. He gets cheese pizza, which I find boring, so I don't mind missing that!

Everyonce in awhile I will join in though. Need to be careful the rest of the week after that!

How do you multi-quote in a post?

Next to Quote is a symbol with "+. Just click that and continue on. When you are on the last one just click Quote or Reply and it will all come up. I delete what I don't need to quote and just keep the stuff I am answering.

That could be water weight - when I eat heavier foods than I am accustomed to, even when inside my point range, I can gain weight the next day. Extra salt can do it too. I have found that really increasing my water intake when eating stuff like that helps. My weight can fluctuate up and down for no particular reason, since I weight myself everyday.

:thumbsup2

:cheer2:Welcome!

Hi Carol! :wave2: Nice to see you! Good luck with the accounting system change.
I'm another one in the 50's age group. I really have been so much happier and more content since I hit this decade even though I don't feel a day over 35! ;)

Thanks! I don't feel 35 anymore, but once I start exercising and losing some more of this wait I should start feeling better! Maybe better than 35, since I was a little overweight before I got pregnant - around where I am now I think.

Hi everyone! I'm a long-time DIS lurker who just started a WISH Journal two weeks ago. I didn't manage to sit down and read this thread through -- and now we're 20 pages in! Wow!

Finally -- having just done a lot of laundry -- I figured that the laundry detergent on the HH challenge was because we would all have extra sweaty exercise clothes to wash!

Good luck everyone, and I am looking forward to getting to know you all better!

You may be right...that would be a good use for the detergent!

:cheer2:Welcome!

Had a great day, only 1 point over yesterday and OP today. Went over DS's class schedule for next year - budget cuts tooks away a couple of his classes :headache:, and he had trouble deciding what else he wanted to do. He ended up with two science courses (Physics and AP Chemistry) and a semester each of Pyschology and Philosophy. He will be busy!

He has final exams this week, and will be trying to catch the transit of Venus Tuesday afternoon...luckily the exams for the next day are his two easy classes, since he will be watching it from about 6 to sunset. I need to drive him since there is no clear view of the western horizon nearby. Hauled my old telescope out, but could not get it working properly. Will need to work on that so he can use it during summer break.

Have a great day everyone :goodvibes!

I hope this isn't off topic, and if so, I will change it to a PM. But, it does have to do with exercise and the challenge since this is my main form of working out.

Actually, you should praise your dog - I work long and hard getting my dogs to respect me enough to take second chair!

I wish I had some advice that I could guarantee would work. I can tell you NOT to scream, NOT to pick up your dog and NOT to run. Other than that, it's a case by case situation and effective action will depend on how intent the strange dog is on harming you or your dog.

I'm not worried (for the most part) that MY dog will be injured - I have Akbash, which will seriously injure or kill another dog if provoked (they're used to guard sheep and other livestock against wolves, bear, mountain lions, etc.) So the first thing i do when approached by a strange dog is put mine behind me! Do NOT pick your dog up - you increase the chance that the strange dog will lunge upwards and increase your chances of being knocked over. I think make myself as BIG as possible, face the stranger and say NO in my deepest She Who Must Be Obeyed voice. No screaming, no nervousness ( I know it's hard). However, I do NOT make eye contact - this is a challenge and for many dogs, hard eye contact will turn a "hey, get out of my territory" situation into an all-out brawl.

I personally do not carry a stick or pepper spray. I'm not coordinated enough for a stick...I'd end up tripping myself and on the ground is not where i want to be in a dog fight! Pepper spray can be tricky to use...if the wind shifts, I (or MY dog) end up with a face full and blinded by pepper spray is not where I want to be in a dog fight! I've known others that have had success turning away a strange dog with an air siren - on of the little hand-held ones. They're piercingly loud and at least the owner will probably come investigate.

If a big Listen to Me Right Now NO doesn't work (and it does 99% of the time), then i will wait until the dog is close enough to kick and i aim for the shoulder. Seriously. I love dogs, I'm involved in breed rescue and I routinely foster dogs. I will also do what it takes to protect myself and my dog from a strange, off-leash dog with a numbskull owner.

By this time, the numbskull has usually hustled over assuring me that their dog is all bark and no bite. Uh huh. I used to gently remind them that mine may not be - that doesn't make much difference to a numbskull that doesn't care enough about his dog to keep them safely on a leash. I then progressed to a tongue-lashing - it made me feel better but doesn't make much difference to a numbskull either.

I call the police now in these situations. Yup, I do. And I insist that they come out, although I admit that I know most of the officers from doing tracking and schutzhund with the K-9's. And I wait around until the officers come. And i ask that the owner be cited. And I appear before the magistrate to make sure that numbskull owners are fined. Numbskulls seem to care about their wallets. YMMV on this approach, depending on the type of area in which you live.

Wish i could be more help. Obedience training isn't real effective with idiots who don't understand that their dog MUST be under their control at ALL times...be it leash control or behind a fence. Voice control only works if the owner is willing to put serious time and effort into training...and numbskulls generally don't qualify.

JacksLilWench -- I hope you enjoy setting goals for yourself. :cool1: I decided that every 10 pounds I was going to reward myself (NOT food related). I'm a little over a pound away from losing 30 pounds since May 2010. I still haven't decided what I want yet. I'm leaning toward getting Bob Harper's new book but can't make up my mind. I've also rewarded myself in the past with pedicures, clothes, or DVDs. Have fun with it and don't feel bad if over time you want to change them. I've changed mine up quite a few times. I get bored with them occasionally. :lmao:

MinandMick: Congrats on the victory on the all you can eat sushi!!

Leslie -- Good luck with the meal planning. I sit down every Sunday and make a meal & fitness plan for the following week. I think that's awesome that the ballpark lets you bring in water and food. I know stadium food can be so expensive (and not that healthy).

Holly324 -- I've began to love thin crust pizza. I think its because I'm eating so much healthier now that I just prefer it over the hand tossed I used to always get from Pizza Hut. :)

BAMB: I love the quote from yesterday. :)

OUGRAD86 -- How funny that you needed help from the boy scouts had to help you find your way. :)

Christopher -- I hope you enjoyed your movie. I can't remember the last movie I saw in theaters... Wait, yes I can "The Muppets" (it came out around Thanksgiving last year)

luvpoohandcompany -- I hope you and your Mom are able to get through an emotional day. Don't feel bad that the topic isn't weight loss related. I've been known to post about missing family members throughout the years on the BLC threads. These wonderful people are awesome givers of support when your feeling down and out. :grouphug:

pjlla -- Sounds like a busy weekend! I hope your able to find some time and catch your breath.

BAMB -- I love the quote for today. Yes, you are right it is a lifestyle change. I can't stand people who ask me "Oh Kristina how is your diet going?" I correct them and say, "I'm not on a diet. I'm not restricting myself from anything. This is going to take a life time to get the weight off and keep it off. This is not a diet, its a lifestyle change, big difference."

Dumbo_Buddy: Howdy! How is your youngest doing? :) I didn't keep up with the thread all that well last challenge. :)

Okay, now that I'm caught up I can update a little. We went to Red Lobster and I did great! I logged everything on Sparkpeople and still have calories left over for dessert later. I'm still working on my water.

Poor Alan is coughing up a lung. I think his allergies are really bothering him. No other plans tonight other then I need to get a meal plan made up for this coming week. I also need to start a to do list for tomorrow. On top of that list I need to call my doctor. Tomorrow is a cardio day and weather permitting I'm going to swim half a mile. Everyone have a great night!

Got a quick 20 minute mile in today. I actually maxed out at 7.8 miles an hour for a minute or so. Trail was muddy and the grass in the field was wet and tall so we bagged out at a mile instead of the 1.7. It started to rain too. But I felt good, legs didn't cramp, and we ran probably 3/4 of the way. I actually could have done more but DS11's knee started to act up.

I wish I could hit the treadmill but DH still hasn't helped me get the crap off and take it off the blocks. I will unbury it myself tomorrow then pester the hell out of him until he brings it back down. Rain for the next 4 days, so I need it!

I'm going to go bathe everyone and then head to bed. We need to be on a 5am schedule in 3 weeks so I have got to start preparing for it.

Night all!! And good morning to Christopher and luvpoohandcompany (LP&C)

Evening all! Haven't had any time to post lately except short little ones on the podcast cruise thread! We leave in 3 weeks!!!!!!

Hi! I'm Tracey and I've lost track of the number of BL Challenges I've done. It has really helped me stay within 10 pounds of where I want to be! I've been a weight keeper and finished 2nd in one of the challenges.

I'm a wife, Mom, massage therapist. school and church volunteer, chauffeur, maid, cook, and former teacher. We love everything Disney, movies, and all sorts of music and games!

We are going on PCC3.0 in 3 weeks and then spending a week at Disney after so I'm running around like a crazy person getting all the final touches done. I'm making shirts for Pirate Night on the cruise for the day we visit WWoHP.

This week is going to be totally crazy! DD7 is having minor plastic surgery in the morning to repair an issue on her left ear lobe that she has had since birth. We have to leave here before 7 and the surgery is at 9:45. We have her DSi to keep her occupied and I bought her the new Brave book that we will read while waiting. DD12 is in a play this week so on top of school work she will be having 2 dress rehearsals. This is also her last week of soccer. We had our game rained out yesterday so we will play one on Saturday which she will miss due to the play and then play another on Sunday. End of school year activities are getting going at DD7s school so I will be there 2 times this week during the day and then again one night plus I have to work Thursday night and miss Ash's opening night. I'll be there the other 2 performances. I have to make goodies for intermission and something for the cast party on Saturday.

Probably won't have time to work out this week but with my schedule I won't have much time to eat either. Possibly can squeeze some time in tomorrow afternoon if Izzie is doing ok and then I actually think I am home all day on Wednesday so not as bad as I thought. I did ok this weekend and am drinking a lot of water. Did all of my crunches tonight.

Sorry that I'm babbling but I'm feeling totally overwhelmed and excited about the coming weeks with my family. We've had a rough year and a half with my mom being sick with cancer so we really need this vacation! Mom is doing well and they are here visiting us until after we get back from WDW!

I think we're heading to bed soon so I'll try and post tomorrow afternoon!

TTFN :tigger:
