We talked about our goals and plans but how do we know if they are realistic? Are we ready to reach our goals? Are we READY TO LAUNCH?!? :confused3

Here is a great little quiz on sparkpeople.com to help you figure out the answer to these questions called

Are You Prepared to Reach Your Goals?

Anyone can set a goal, but it takes preparation, planning and motivation to see it through to the end. Are you on the path to success?

Here is a link to the quiz http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/assessment_questions.asp?quizid=52

QOTD Saturday, June 2, 2012: Are you prepared to reach your goals? If you don't want to take the quiz, you can just answer the question or share your thoughts on what it takes to be prepared to reach your goals.

I am on my way to my goals!! I was told I just need to add rewards for myself along the way...I think I can handle that ;)

*************
The WW 5K was this morning, and even though it wasn't timed and I did more activity than I'm giving myself credit for, I counted it for 40 minutes :woohoo: I really am getting into running, especially since I have a pretty sweet playlist! I think one of my rewards will be two songs from iTunes for every pound lost.

After the meeting, DM and I went to weigh in, and unfortunately I was up  However, I barely weighed "up" and it was after I had rehydrated and eaten fruit, so I'm blaming it on that :rolleyes1 I will have a better weigh-in next week, I promise!!

You guys!!!! I had a total eating victory today!

My best friend and I walked 3 miles this morning and then decided to eat sushi at lunch. Well, it was all you can eat :scared1:, but I counted the calories and kept well within my lunch goal and STOPPED when full. Seriously?!?!? I think my stomach was in shock from not being stuffed. I did it and then had sugar free chocolate jello for dessert instead of a MicD's vanilla cone. baby steps!

Wanted to share with all my challengers. WE can totally do this thing!

I am prepared for my goals, according to the quiz. I think the best thing I can do to prepare is to put my meal plans together at the beginning of each week, especially for weekday lunches and make sure I have what I need, so by Thursday, I am not running up to a fast food place to grab something I shouldn't be eating!

Off to a baseball game tonight...fortunately our stadium allows us to take in a liter bottle of water per person and a gallon ziploc with food..so no reason to eat the not so healthy food served at the game!

baby steps works :) one small change a day will eventually add up. Good job on the victory day.

I took the quiz and it says I am prepared....Let's do this thing!!!

I just wanted to say a quick thanks for all the support I received today. Im the past I would have beat myself up and then just blown the rest of the day, but with all the support I was able to put the lunch past me and get a little workout in tonight.

Yay!! Great job not letting it get you down!! :thumbsup2

One step at a time!! Way to go!!

I went out and about with DH and kids this morning, and we had McCalister's for lunch. I did good! :) Love when that happens. We are hunkering down for a pizza night, though. However, thin crust and stopping when I am full should be the name of the game!!! I love that this board of wonderful people will keep me accountable!

QOTD:

I took the quiz and it says "Well on your way"

I think the biggest thing for me will be not letting 1 slip up get me off track and to stay motivated even if the scale doesn't move or moves in the wrong direction one week.

Somehow during the walk, I managed to really hurt my right knee. It now really hurts to walk on it! That definitely puts me in a pickle. I was planning on starting C25K tomorrow! I also have another 3,000 steps to complete today. I am not sure what I am going to do. This is not a good start to getting myself back on track!

I hope your knee is feeling better! Hopefully you'll be able to start in a few days :)

Loved this theming, Lisa! :)

I took the quiz and it says I'm prepared for success!! Whoohoo and I truly feel like it too :) My weight loss plan worked well in the previous challenge, so I'm going to stick with it this challenge as well. I think what it takes for me to be prepared to reach my goals is having a positive attitude. Knowing that I can do this, but also knowing how great this is for my overall health. It also helps to have a plan - to know what you're going to do for supper at home or out with friends. Planning is key for me :)

Happy Saturday, everyone! It's a beautiful day here and I've been enjoying the day with my family. Just about to head back outside to play catch with DD and maybe some reading out in the gazebo. Grilling chicken tonight - gonna be good. :)

QOTD Saturday, June 2, 2012: Are you prepared to reach your goals? If you don't want to take the quiz, you can just answer the question or share your thoughts on what it takes to be prepared to reach your goals.

Well, the quiz said I was headed for success! I feel great and am working hard but I am still scared I will put in a ton of hard work and gain all the weight back. In my heart I know I can do it. I am finding more and more exercise that I actually enjoy doing so that helps. DH and I just started hiking. If I look at it as a hobby not just exercise it will be easier to get out there and get moving. Same thing with the C25K. If I can turn races as a hobby and not just good exercise it will be much easier to get myself out there.

I went out and got fast food last night and I was so happy I did. I had been craving it for a long time and truth is it was not as good as I remember. I think I finally realized most of the cravings are emotional. I was in a good mood last night and feeling great after running. As long as I stay away from junk when I am having a bad day I know I will be fine.

Here are some HH suggestions for today. Are your measuring cups and spoons ready? Buffy had a great idea! Organize the drawer you found them in-it's a good head start for an upcoming mini-challenge.

I keep mine in the dish strainer all the time so they are always right there when I am in the kitchen. I have a full set of spoons and measuring cups, a 2 two cup measuring cup and a really cool adjustable measuring spoon. Plus of course a few random pieces from old sets.

I'm on my way!

You're well on your way to reaching your goals! But you could help yourself get there more easily by implementing a few changes, like enlisting a diverse support group, tracking your progress, and rewarding yourself along the way.

Well I took the quiz and it said I was prepared for success. I however am not so sure. Ever get that feeling that "What if I succeed and nothing changes?" ack I woke up in weird mood  Well here's to success and finding out what happens with it.

The Quote of the day is for you!
if you change nothing, nothing will change

By succeeding, you have changed. Don't sell your self short. You won't be the same person at the end of your journey.

I know it is disappointing, Buffy, but I think that doing the Donald will set you up for success: :donald: Plus some of your friends will be there. ;) And we get to Scream Team for the Marathon folks and drink beer while the others are running. :drinking: Doesn't that sound like fun?

I am disappointed to an extent but I also know (especially after reading MFM) that if I attempted the marathon I would most definitely be setting myself up for failure which I just don't think I could take right now. 26 miles just seems to daunting right now, but I will get there some day.
I need to sign up soon though.
Is anyone else doing the 5K and the 1/2?
You are going to be there right?

You guys!!!! I had a total eating victory today!

Wanted to share with all my challengers. WE can totally do this thing!

WAY TO GO!!!!! The whole not eating until you feel like you're gonna burst thing is so weird but so good!! I've been trying to do that as often as possible and I'm successful 99% of the time. Wait until you wake up the next morning actually hungry!

The quiz says I'm prepared! Woohoo! I think I'm in a good goal mindset after the spring challenge, where I made my major goal. Now I *know* I can do it, because I just did. :)

You are going to be there right?

I'm doing the 1/2! It'll be my first, so there's another major goal... :) I'm also doing the ToT 10-miler in September. Should be a good warm-up for 13.1, right? ;)

XO
Liz

It would be my first 1/2 too Liz! I'm still jealous that you get to do the ToT 10 miler. I want that medal!!!!!

You're doing the Donald not the Princess right?

Evening everyone!

I just finished up half an hour of strength training:

30 crunches
30 dumb bell crunches
30 modified push ups
30 squats (holding 2 pd dumb bells)
Swimming (its a manuever, not actual swimming)
Seated ball twist

Going to do some dancing later for my weekend challenge on Sparkpeople

Dinner was 3 oz shredded chicken with 2 tbsp BBQ sauce and a single serving of cauliflower in cheese. Well, the wonderful TOM cravings kicked in and then I had a peanut butter sandwich on wheat and 2 Star Crunches. Everything is getting tracked on Sparkpeople and so far I'm still within all of my ranges.

I hope everyone has a great evening! I think I'm going to try to head to bed at a decent hour tonight and work on getting into a normal sleep routine. I'm a massive night owl and was up til almost 4am this morning, yeah not good.

Buffy, yes I'm only signed up for the Donald at this point. I'm tempted by the Princess, but it's around DD5's birthday, and I'm not sure I can justify another trip down! Maybe I'll make that a 2014 goal. I also want that coast-to-coast medal...

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

My name is Carol, 53 yrs old, married to DH for 32 years and mother to DS16. I was super skinny as a kid, and did not start gaining weight until I joined the AF and started my desk job. It really exploded after I gave birth, and I lost some with WW, but then my meeting buddy moved away and I did not keep it up, and gained back that and more, reaching my highest weight of 215. At that time I became disgusted with myself lost a large amount of weight on my own, using WW online, I but did not adhere to if after losing 55 pounds. I gained back 25, and at the point I joined my first challenge. It got me down 10 pounds despite some personal tragedies that cropped in the middle of it. I lost almost another 10 with the second challenge this spring, but a vacation at Universal that turned into a cold and then killer allergies totally killed my motivation and turned into a big pity party with lots of comfort foods. Unfortunately, I start this challenge having gained back all I lost in the second challenge :guilty: - no one to blame but myself.

I am approaching this with more determination. Third times a charm:banana:! I have two trips coming up, but will be active and will need to make the best choices I can with food. I am still on WW online since I find it is the easiest way to keep track of what I eat and how much activity. My downfall is exercise, but I sat down today after having done some geocaching and walked 2 1/2 miles in the process. I have Zumba for the Wii and WiiFit Plus, which I will put to good use. I need to get healthier not only by losing weight, but by building strength and endurance and toning through exercise. I have cholesterol issues, so I hope that my counts will be down at my physical in August.

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.

I don't have a set in stone plan...I am quite impressed with the ones I have seen! I will track everyday and keep within my points weekly; I will exercise more and vary my exercise so I don't get bored; I will eat healthier, freshly made foods instead of all the processed junk I tend to eat. I am already really good with water and fairly good with sleep, which are both important aspects as well.

My goals are to lose 15-20 pounds this challenge.
Tone and shape so my jeans are as tight.
Have more energy and feel better, feel less like a 50+ year old.
Have good results at my physical this year!

QOTD Saturday, June 2, 2012: Are you prepared to reach your goals? If you don't want to take the quiz, you can just answer the question or share your thoughts on what it takes to be prepared to reach your goals.

I took the quiz and it said I am Prepared for Success! It was a fun little quiz. A few of the questions I had to think about, such as my support network since I could answer it either way! But I am ready this time!

Introduce yourself - My name is Janis I turn 53 in August. I live a little north of Boston with my DH and DS 15 and our little 2 yo mutt Patches. Janis

Boy, we're close. Last year I was turning 53 in August with a DS15! Don't have the puppy though. We aren't around enough.

Now I am turning 54 in August with a DS16.

******************************************************
So far, so good. I went over my points yesterday, but used my splurge points since Friday is my splurge day. OP today, exercised yesterday and then got in a long walk today. Went geocaching and dragged DS along. My phone died near the end and I was all turned around. DS wanted to go in one direction (which was the right way), but I saw a picnic area with people there and we headed to that instead. Turned out it was a boy scout gathering! They headed us in the right direction :rotfl:. DH thinks it is hilarious that the boy scouts were there to help us get unlost. The phone would have helped, need to keep that sucker charged but I used too much juice looking for the caches. But it is a great way to get out and walk!

So now off to turn in my weight and inches. I have my ticker set to my total pounds lost since I started this journey a few years ago. It lets me know how far I have come and that I can go it! Also going to give coaching a whirl. Am a little timid about it, but hoping I can do a good job! Sent a PM to Janis for August.

This is a great group, glad to see all the familiar names and a few new ones! Summer should be quieter, so after these first couple of weeks, which should be stressful at work (switching to a new account system) it should settle down...

Looking forward to all our success this summer :goodvibes !

Buffy, yes I'm only signed up for the Donald at this point. I'm tempted by the Princess, but it's around DD5's birthday, and I'm not sure I can justify another trip down! Maybe I'll make that a 2014 goal. I also want that coast-to-coast medal...

I actually thought about the princess first but some of the girls here talked me into the Donald because more WISHer's would be there.
I definitely can't do both because we will just be coming back from Disney 2 weeks before Marathon weekend and finances won't allow for it.
But a coast to coast is in my future too!

Hi Lindsay!! Our weight is very close, I started the challenge off at 198.2 and I am also going to Disney in October! We leave in 129 days, so we will be there around the same time.
y:

Awesome! I see your doing MNSSHP what night are you going? We have tickets for the 12th. It will be fun trying to reach our goal together.

QOTD: Goals

I have 3 goals for the Summer Challenge.
1. Lose 12 pounds-almost 1 lb per week
2. Increase exercise to 5 cardio, 3 strength training, and 4 mindfulness-based stress reduction yoga sessions per week
3. Complete C25K

I will be tracking faithfully on myfitnesspal. Feel free to friend me there. I am cclovesdis there too.

I also plan to earn more HH points. I better check to see how much laundry detergent we have. I know we talked about needing to buy it, but that might have been only because it is on sale. We have to buy a certain kind because I'm allergic to the world. Well, not the world, but enough.

A bit about me: I am gluten intolerant and lactose intolerant. I'm allergic to oats and oysters. I have no idea if the test results on oysters are correct or not because I can't stand looking at them, let alone eating one. I get sick to my stomach when I eat peanut butter so I don't eat peanuts. I have hypothyroidism so I can't have a lot of soy or walnuts. I don't really like nuts, so not a big deal, but still something to remember. The allergy test results were also positive for rice, cashews, hazelnuts, and wheat. My gastro changed me from wheat allergy to gluten intolerant and the other 3 proved wrong. I'm also supposedly allergic to latex. You should have seen me at WDW with all the balloons. I was constantly dodging them. :rotfl2:

I can lose 75 pounds and still not be underweight and because I'm small boned and petite, that might be a realistic goal for me. However, I'm focusing on small increments and would like to lose 12 pounds for this challenge. I'd be happy with more, but I refuse to set myself up for failure. In 7 challenges, I've gained in 6 of them. So, I'm making it my goal to really succeed this time. I have got to get healthy. I'm really focusing on increasing my exercise.

You will hear me talk about med checks. I've been on a med or two (or more) that cause weight gain and finding the right med combo has been a long battle. Well, my doctors and I have found it and I'm doing much better. The meds I am taking now do not cause weight gain. Taking a hypothyroidism med should at least make it possible to lose weight. I know that weight loss is work (thanks Buffy!) and I do not expect this med to help me lose weight. I just know that if I don't take it, I am unlikely to lose weight.

Well, that is me in a nutshell. I tend to be chatty. I also have a mom who makes excessive negative comments. I am getting better at ignoring her.

Hope everyone has a great, on plan weekend!

CC

Cc I've missed you. Im glad your meds seem to be working better for you.

You do get a workout everyday! If this was me (I am always running late) ... I could see myself running to work, not by my choice. :lmao:

I love the date of you wedding. Great numbers! I am rooting for your dress to be taken in. :goodvibes

LOL ... I love it! Trying to figure out all the "stuff" on that site. It always takes me a while to figure things out on the computer. Be patient with me.

That is really scary. I hope they caught the person.

*****************************************************

QOTD: I put a short term goal on here and I wanted to add a goal for the end of the challenge. I would like to lose 10 pounds.

I went running tonight with my husband in the rain. It was light and comfortable. I love running in the rain. :goodvibes I usually run while I listen to a book on tape, it makes the time go by. However, I downloaded some new songs and wanted to run to them. My mistakes is that they had a rather fast beat .... which made me run faster ... so I tired out too quickly. My goal is to run longer distances. I can run 2 miles without stopping but I would really like to work up to 3 miles. (Another goal. ;) )

I bought a Groupon to run the Color Me RAD 5K in Pittsburgh in August. My DS who is 12 is running it with me. It should be different.

That race sounds pretty cool. I love running in the rain too

I did a 4 mile race today. It was lots of fun and i was happy with my time. Now im relaxing with my youngest son while my dh and older son are at a football game. I love reading everyones plans to reach there goals. We are all on the right path to get to our happy places.

What a chatty bunch already!!! Day 1 and I was behind 7 pages already!!!

No worries! :goodvibes Don't worry about catching up and just jump in where we are. Thank you so much for hostessing the challenge, Janis!

Yes, I'm prepared to reach my goals. I think not just physically but you have to be perpared mentally too. You can know you should lose weight, you can clear out the cupboards, but in less there is something that truely connects you to your goal it won't happen. I found that something for me! And I hope you've all found your something too.

Very good point! ::yes::

Took the quiz. And it tells me I am prepared for success. I would have to agree.

Yep, I think you are ready to take up where we left off the last challenge for sure! :thumbsup2

I took the quiz and this time, I am prepared! I have my support system in place and am losing weight for myself. The latter is key. I am no longer trying to lose weight because my mother keeps nagging me. I'm doing this for myself and my health.

I know that you are going to have a great challenge, CC! :flower3:

Well I took the quiz and it said I was prepared for success. I however am not so sure. Ever get that feeling that "What if I succeed and nothing changes?" ack I woke up in weird mood. Well here's to success and finding out what happens with it.

Deep breaths, take things one step at a time. :hippie: Becoming healthier can only do great things for us all!

Took the test, and got this for my result:

Congratulations! It sounds like you know a thing or two about goal-setting and that you've taken steps to ensure you'll be successful, supported and highly motivated along the way. Just be sure your motivation stays strong even when the going gets tough.

Sounds like me to a t!

:yay: Another person ready for success!

I love reading all your updates! We're starting off with a bang and I'm ready to keep going!

Sounds like you are off to a strong start and raring to go! :teeth:

Hi Lindsay!! Our weight is very close, I started the challenge off at 198.2 and I am also going to Disney in October! We leave in 129 days, so we will be there around the same time!!

You'd be surprised how many long lost "twins" find one another on these threads! ;)

Prepared for Success!

Congratulations! It sounds like you know a thing or two about goal-setting and that you've taken steps to ensure you'll be successful, supported and highly motivated along the way. Just be sure your motivation stays strong even when the going gets tough.

:cheer2: Yay another person ready for success!

Yes, I am prepared to reach my goal. Will I reach it this challenge? The goal of wanting to hit ONEDERLAND you can bet your booty on it I will!! It'll take more time for me to hit my overall goal but I'm taking it one day, one meal, and one workout at a time.

You can do it, Kristina! :)

I will be back later. I have to check out some websites for some airfare for vacation. I think I need to buy those this weekend.

You know your trip is getting close when you have to buy airline tickets! :cool2:

I am on my way to my goals!! I was told I just need to add rewards for myself along the way...I think I can handle that ;)

Running does mess around with your weight in the short term, Kaiti, so just keep swimming. :fish:

You guys!!!! I had a total eating victory today!

:woohoo: for a total eating victory!

I am prepared for my goals, according to the quiz. I think the best thing I can do to prepare is to put my meal plans together at the beginning of each week, especially for weekday lunches and make sure I have what I need, so by Thursday, I am not running up to a fast food place to grab something I shouldn't be eating!

I think the biggest thing for me will be not letting 1 slip up get me off track and to stay motivated even if the scale doesn't move or moves in the wrong direction one week.

Yes, I will be doing the Donald. At least half of the BL Princess bunch are committed to being there for January Marathon W/E and the other half are all maybes. I bet we will have at least a dozen of us BL folks as well as there are about 100 WISHers at the big meet. I'm really looking forward to it! :cool2:

The quiz says I'm prepared! Woohoo! I think I'm in a good goal mindset after the spring challenge, where I made my major goal. Now I *know* I can do it, because I just did. :)

And speaking of people who will be doing the Donald -- here is our Liz! :donald:

BRB with the QOTD for tomorrow.

Let's continue our journeys to the Happiest Place on Earth. :smickey:

fastpass-400.jpg

We DISboards planning types know understanding the ins and outs of FASTPASS is a great way to help you get the most out of a trip to Disney and take in lots of attractions while other people are stuck waiting in line.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a FASTPASS to help you with your weight loss?

What if I told you there was something that you could do to help you lose TWICE as much weight than you would otherwise?!? Would you be interested? Would you be willing to try it? Well, you can! And all you have to do is keep a food diary! :thumbsup2

A 2008 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine found that dieters who tracked their food intake in a "food diary" lost twice as much weight as those who didn't track their food. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/07/080708080738.htm

It is incredibly easy to underestimate the number of calories that you consume and overestimate the number of calories you burn when exercising. It is a real eye opener when you first start tracking. :scared1:

Here is a link to an article on sparkpeople.com about how important keeping track of your food can be on this journey to good health. http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=394

Which brings me to the QOTD.

QOTD Sunday, June 3, 2012: Do you think tracking food is an important part of weight loss?
* Yes, definitely
* Maybe, it depends on the person
* No, I don't think it's necessary

Have a great evening all! ::MickeyMo

YES, DEFINITELY! I am way more cautious of what I eat when I see my total calories for the day dwindle with each bite.
