Getting back into the same-o same-o after vacation. Caught up on the entire thread I missed finally - did not have time to do it over vacation (I can read it on my phone). It is hot as blazes outside, so a good day to stay inside. I decided to just go back to the beginning of this week.
QOTD
So today, as many of you know, is my oldest DS's 16th birthday. And as many of you may recall from either having teens or being one that well.......they know everything. They have superior knowledge, infinite wisdom, and are invincible. No one knows as much as they do, and we were teenagers back in the stone age. Life is "different" and "harder" then it was way back when we had dinosaurs as pets.
So my QOTD:
Pretend the universe is aligned so you, as a teen, would accept one piece of advice from the adult you. What piece of wisdom would you offer up to the teen you? What advice would you offer to any teen that you know?
Happy birthday to your DS! 16 is such a milestone, my DS turned 16 in April!
I was such a brat as a teenager, I am so glad he is not like me.
This is really hard. I read through some of the answers and there is so much I would love to tell myself. Not anything that would change the life I have now, because I want it to all happen the way it did (with a few exceptions). I guess I would tell the teenage me the same as you did, keep moving, keep healthy, don't let yourself go. Because the minute I got a desk job, that is when it started...
On a lighter note, I would love to give some advice about what stocks to buy...

; that way I could visit Disney anytime I want!
I am so sick! That's why I've been MIA. I dont even care about eating right now my throat is on fire! It's been getting progressively worse each day and I woke up today and can't swallow. I'm spending the day sleeping just took some nyquill so I'm hoping to pass out any minute now.
My doctor is closed for the weekend and I don't have my new insurance card so I can't go to the walk in clinic so sleeping through the pain is the best option
Hope you feel better soon! I take NyQuil constantly when I am sick trying to sleep through it as well. Read what you wrote later - it is crazy they won't give you a strep test, if you have strep you need antibiotics.
The reason people give up so fast is because they tend to look at how far they have to go instead of how far they have gotten.
List the things that you couldn't do before you started your journey, that you can do now.
Now make a list of short term and long term goals for when you reach the next stage of your wellness.
Things I couldn't do:
Feel comfortable in my own skin.
Find nice-looking clothes that fit me.
Take a nice walk without getting winded.
Go without knee pain.
Things I will do/am doing:
Feel good about the way I look.
Generally feel health; less tired and more energy.
Shop for clothes in the "regular" section.
Actually enjoy nice, long walks and feel good afterwards.
Less knee pain than before, since I am not carrying as much weight.
Lots of my stomach problems solved.
I'm back! Missed all the posts the past week - I'm in a part of Virginia that was hit with the wicked storm last Friday. Lost power until Tuesday evening, and just got phone, internet and cable back yesterday! Hope everyone is doing okay - off to read the posts I missed!
We missed the storm - sort of. I heard about it when I was at the reunion in Iowa. Tried to call home (to see if our answering machine worked) and circuts were messed up. Texted a friend and she was OK, didn't lose power, so I was hopeful and able to relax. Even pulled up a map on my DS's iPad that seemed to indicate we had power on Sunday. So relaxed on the way home, and even got ahold of our answering machine during our two-day trip back.
Got home, we had power, but the clocks were off, and opening our freezer, saw melted popsicle juice. We emptied the freezer and most of the refrigerator, took advantage of the opportunity to do a through cleaning while DH ran and a picked up milk and a few other neccessities that we had lost. The grocery store had only just had it's power restored that day, but luckily had some of the stuff we needed. Judging from the DVR, we lost our power with the storm, and it only came back hours before we got home. Not fun. But we were one of the lucky ones, never really had to go without air conditioning in this horrible heat.
Hi from vacation - no WI for me here, but I think I'm still steady! Partly b/c we only had 2 days on the Dream.

DH only had 1 - he became I'll overnight on the first night of the cruise and had to be airlifted off to Nassau on our first CC day. DDs and I joined him in Nassau the next day when the ship got there. Disney was great, and DH's company was a lifesaver, too. We were so disappointed not to get our cruise, but other things are obviously so much more important. Today we fly back to Orlando to jump-start our vacation at AKL/WDW. DH is doing miles better, and we won't let this deter us from taking another
Disney cruise!
The thing I'm personally so proud of (okay, 2 things) is how I held it together for DDs (had my meltdowns on my own!) and how I didn't, for once, turn to stress eating. I actually didn't have much of an appetite, so I was able to make good, healthy choices just about all the way through this.
Besides Disney and DH's company, I have to give a huge shout-out to the DIS folks, podcasters and cruisers alike. We had an amazing support system in this group, and I'll never forget those kindnesses, big and small. We are truly blessed.
XO from the Bahamas airport,
Liz
I am glad your DH is OK, and you are able to enjoy the rest of your vacation. When it was talked about on the podcast, never realized it was your family. He did say he had recovered and you were going on to WDW. That is scary, falling ill on vacation and having to go to unfamiliar surroundings far from home. Hope the rest of your vacation was wonderful.

No lyme disease, did not find that out until we had got back, I think the symptoms were probably due to stress trying to get everything done. DH actually had to go to the office the day we were scheduled to leave, so I could have had an extra day at work if I had known. We did not leave until the following day, and drove to Iowa in one day. Haven't done that for awhile and did not enjoy the straight through.
The wedding was nice. I couldn't find a dress I liked (I was looking for a long, casual one since it was a casual affair). Ended up wearing an old dress from 1999 when my mom married and I was her maid-of-honor. It was very comfortable, and it was not until I had come back that I realized how loose it was and that is was hanging on me! I had forgotten that when I wore it I was quite a bit larger and it was tight on me then. That made me feel better!
Then we drove to Wisconsin, next day Illinois, back to Wisconsin the following day, then back to Iowa to pick up MIL, then up to Nebraska for the reunion. We returned to Iowa that evening and then drove two days back. And then we had the frig fiasco I mentioned, and I had to go to work the next day.
Still have work I brought home that it would probably be best if I did, but the heat is kind of sapping any kind of motivation out of me, even though I am back OP. Went shopping yesterday for all the items I need, just too busy beforehand. It was kind of hard to be OP during the trip, with so much moving around and eating at weird hours. We were on the road more than relaxing with family. Joking that I am glad to get back to work to relax. But I was already on the laptop on the way home working on some spreadsheets to get a headstart and not fall too far behind.
Will need to get my weight in, and starting on the new HH, and sent my measurements into Janis. They weren't good, but noticed my ankles were also swollen, probably from a combination of the travel and heat. I am not good with heat, will be so glad when that front comes through, it is supposed to cool down to the 80's. Never thought I would be glad to see the 80's!
Hope everyone is doing well and OP!
Carol
