Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

I'm back! Missed all the posts the past week - I'm in a part of Virginia that was hit with the wicked storm last Friday. Lost power until Tuesday evening, and just got phone, internet and cable back yesterday!

Hope everyone is doing okay - off to read the posts I missed!

Great quote, Buffy!

Happy birthday to your DS. :bday: He is a young man to be proud of. :cool2:

My "baby" is turning 13 this week-end. I totally feel your pain on the "knowing everything." I hear "Mom, you grew up in the 60's . . . this is the 21st century" a lot. :rotfl:

I took the day off today. I got a lot done so I can hang out and drink a beer and take a nap this afternoon. :beach:

Awww ... Happy Birthday to your baby. 13 is a big number! Amazing how big they get.

And it sounds like you had the perfect day! :beach:

I have a new appreceation for those who go without insurance. I have insurance but i'm in the process of switching and i don't have an insurance card. I went to the walk in and basically had to pay $50 for them to tell me that they didn't want to do a strep swab because it would have cost me more money and to prescribe me vicodin! Vicodin for a sore throat, I've never heard of such a thing!

So despite going to the walk in I feel no better. My boss told me I can go ahead and try to find someone to work for me tomorrow, but i still don't know anyone at the new job that well and i felt weird calling everyone so i will suck it up. I just wish my job wasn't speaking all day long.

At least the only other symptom I have is a cold sore, or the beginning of one. (Those are the WORST) but I got some Abreva so hopefully that takes care of that.

For now, more rest, and popsicles, cause thats about all i can eat at the moment. Even soup hurts!

Hey Trina, maybe try some of that throat spray that numbs your throat. Hope you got through work ok.

Thanks for sharing that is an interesting article.

I'm going to go ahead and post the QOTD for Saturday now, I intend to sleep in tomorrow!!

Quote of the Day
The reason people give up so fast is because they tend to look at how far they have to go instead of how far they have gotten.

Today is about perspective. If we look at something head on all we see is a big wall, but if we take just a few steps to the side, we can catch a glimpse of the edge, or maybe a brick that is weaker than the others. Some way we can find our way through or around that wall.

Things I couldn't do before.

Run one time around a track without having to stop.
Fit into my shorts without them riding up on me.:crazy2:
Be comfortable in my bathing suit.

Things I will do:

Run a 1/2 marathon at Disney
Run the Pittsburgh Marathon
Ride the Skycoaster at Kennywood.

Thanks everyone for the "get better" wishes.

I finally was feeling 100% yesterday. I got some strength training in, tracked all my meals, stayed within range, and hit my water count.

Today I did strength training, a 11 minute cardio video on Sparkpeople, and a late night swim (100 laps). I tracked all my meals, stayed within range, hit my water count, and am still going strong on keeping all these meds straight. :)

I wound up changing hematologist yesterday (its after midnight). I called the old one and again got a voicemail. I finally got fed up and called Tricare. I explained the situation and told them who I wanted in a new doctor (I had already looked her up, verified that they took my insurance, and gave them all my info.) The lady at Tricare changed everything in the computer and sent them my referral within the hour.

Now, the new office will call me back Monday and set up my apt. All I need is blood work done to determine if I can get off my blood thinners. Then they'll send that info to my RE and she can determine from there what our plan of action is.

****TMI ALERT****

I take my last Provera pill today. This means that I should have a TOM come around on Monday. I'm anxious because that means I'm one step closer to getting this show on the road. However, the last time I had a drug induced cycle I was a bear to live with for 4 days. Luckily, Alan is a patient man and he knows its coming so he can hide away for a few days, LOL.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! I need to get to bed..

Good Luck! :)

I'm sure Alan can deal with a bear for a few days if that means you are one step closer to babyland. It's a pretty even trade off!! ;)

Hello friends!:cool2:

I've missed the past 2weeks with trips and then getting caught up at work and home after trips and life in general! I could feel myself slipping away like I did the last challenge so woke up yesterday and PM'ed my weight to Sue and am trying to get back in the swing of things. So far I am right at where I started the challenge so I guess I'll be happy to not have a gain.

Buffy, Happy Birthday to your son! Is he driving? I would tell the teen me that drinking and partying are not the most important things in life! Have fun but schoolwork comes first. You will really regret not doing your best when you have the chance.

I am so encouraged by you all! I am literally walking my tail off at 30 miles a week! Thinking the scale will just drop...but my hamstrings stay sore, joints are not happy unless I'm walking...I know there is water weight that needs to go with all the soreness..but, I am happy to claim my 60 pound clippie! Started last year at 265...weighed 204 this morning...kind of bummed bc I weighed 203.6 on Sunday and really stayed true to eating plan! Hopefully, one of these weeks I will have a WhoosH week and knock off 4-5 pounds!

WOW!!! That is so awesome! Keep up the great work!

Gah!! My Disney trip is getting closer by the day, and I can't get over it!! We are just 83 days away and it seems like it's flying. I keep seeing all the pictures and updates from other people and other websites, and it gets me so excited. Plus, one of the girls going with us has never been, and the other hasn't been in years- how exciting is that?! :cool1:I can't wait. Plus, I think I'm gonna upgrade my tickets to an annual pass while I'm down there. That way it's no trouble to shoot down for a quick weekend...any excuse to get away!

Exciting!!

If you were on the last BL thread, my oldest got into some prestigious colleges, however, he nor we could afford them without going into a lot of debt. He is going to a great college that is affordable. Four years from now, he will see how he made the right choice.

Very impressive son!

So cool!

I'm going to go ahead and post the QOTD for Saturday now, I intend to sleep in tomorrow!!

Quote of the Day
The reason people give up so fast is because they tend to look at how far they have to go instead of how far they have gotten.

I asked Mike (mykelogan, from the journal forum) to do this when he was having a bit of a struggle and my QOTD is inspired by my Quote of the Day.

List the things that you couldn't do before you started your journey, that you can do now.
Now make a list of short term and long term goals for when you reach the next stage of your wellness.

***********************************

Things I couldn't do before.

Breathe at night laying flat on my back.
Be comfortable laying on my stomach.
Climbing the hill to the kids school from the parking lot without getting winded.
Run for a full minute or more.
Use a regular size bath towel.

Things I will do:

El Camino de Santiago (500 mile walk through Spain) Summer 2013
Run 1/2 marathon (January 2013)
Run full marathon (January 2018)
Ride the Harry Potter ride at Universal
Walk straight through a turnstile at WDW

This QOTD makes me sad since I have gained a lot of my weight back:sad2:

I still have much more stamina than the old me, can rise from a seated position easier, can exercise for at least 45 minutes and feel better in my clothes and just moving around. But, I don't feel as good as I did a few months ago!

Have a great day all and stay cool! We've already had the 2nd story A/C go out and get repaired today! We are just staying inside today and taking it easy. May work on organizing more if we get in the mood;)

Shawnprincess:

Getting back into the same-o same-o after vacation. Caught up on the entire thread I missed finally - did not have time to do it over vacation (I can read it on my phone). It is hot as blazes outside, so a good day to stay inside. I decided to just go back to the beginning of this week.

QOTD
So today, as many of you know, is my oldest DS's 16th birthday. And as many of you may recall from either having teens or being one that well.......they know everything. They have superior knowledge, infinite wisdom, and are invincible. No one knows as much as they do, and we were teenagers back in the stone age. Life is "different" and "harder" then it was way back when we had dinosaurs as pets.
So my QOTD:
Pretend the universe is aligned so you, as a teen, would accept one piece of advice from the adult you. What piece of wisdom would you offer up to the teen you? What advice would you offer to any teen that you know?

Happy birthday to your DS! 16 is such a milestone, my DS turned 16 in April!
I was such a brat as a teenager, I am so glad he is not like me.
This is really hard. I read through some of the answers and there is so much I would love to tell myself. Not anything that would change the life I have now, because I want it to all happen the way it did (with a few exceptions). I guess I would tell the teenage me the same as you did, keep moving, keep healthy, don't let yourself go. Because the minute I got a desk job, that is when it started...
On a lighter note, I would love to give some advice about what stocks to buy...;); that way I could visit Disney anytime I want!

I am so sick! That's why I've been MIA. I dont even care about eating right now my throat is on fire! It's been getting progressively worse each day and I woke up today and can't swallow. I'm spending the day sleeping just took some nyquill so I'm hoping to pass out any minute now.
My doctor is closed for the weekend and I don't have my new insurance card so I can't go to the walk in clinic so sleeping through the pain is the best option

Hope you feel better soon! I take NyQuil constantly when I am sick trying to sleep through it as well. Read what you wrote later - it is crazy they won't give you a strep test, if you have strep you need antibiotics.

The reason people give up so fast is because they tend to look at how far they have to go instead of how far they have gotten.
List the things that you couldn't do before you started your journey, that you can do now.
Now make a list of short term and long term goals for when you reach the next stage of your wellness.

Things I couldn't do:
Feel comfortable in my own skin.
Find nice-looking clothes that fit me.
Take a nice walk without getting winded.
Go without knee pain.

Things I will do/am doing:
Feel good about the way I look.
Generally feel health; less tired and more energy.
Shop for clothes in the "regular" section.
Actually enjoy nice, long walks and feel good afterwards.
Less knee pain than before, since I am not carrying as much weight.
Lots of my stomach problems solved.

I'm back! Missed all the posts the past week - I'm in a part of Virginia that was hit with the wicked storm last Friday. Lost power until Tuesday evening, and just got phone, internet and cable back yesterday! Hope everyone is doing okay - off to read the posts I missed!

We missed the storm - sort of. I heard about it when I was at the reunion in Iowa. Tried to call home (to see if our answering machine worked) and circuts were messed up. Texted a friend and she was OK, didn't lose power, so I was hopeful and able to relax. Even pulled up a map on my DS's iPad that seemed to indicate we had power on Sunday. So relaxed on the way home, and even got ahold of our answering machine during our two-day trip back.
Got home, we had power, but the clocks were off, and opening our freezer, saw melted popsicle juice. We emptied the freezer and most of the refrigerator, took advantage of the opportunity to do a through cleaning while DH ran and a picked up milk and a few other neccessities that we had lost. The grocery store had only just had it's power restored that day, but luckily had some of the stuff we needed. Judging from the DVR, we lost our power with the storm, and it only came back hours before we got home. Not fun. But we were one of the lucky ones, never really had to go without air conditioning in this horrible heat.

Hi from vacation - no WI for me here, but I think I'm still steady! Partly b/c we only had 2 days on the Dream. :( DH only had 1 - he became I'll overnight on the first night of the cruise and had to be airlifted off to Nassau on our first CC day. DDs and I joined him in Nassau the next day when the ship got there. Disney was great, and DH's company was a lifesaver, too. We were so disappointed not to get our cruise, but other things are obviously so much more important. Today we fly back to Orlando to jump-start our vacation at AKL/WDW. DH is doing miles better, and we won't let this deter us from taking another Disney cruise!
The thing I'm personally so proud of (okay, 2 things) is how I held it together for DDs (had my meltdowns on my own!) and how I didn't, for once, turn to stress eating. I actually didn't have much of an appetite, so I was able to make good, healthy choices just about all the way through this.
Besides Disney and DH's company, I have to give a huge shout-out to the DIS folks, podcasters and cruisers alike. We had an amazing support system in this group, and I'll never forget those kindnesses, big and small. We are truly blessed.
XO from the Bahamas airport,
Liz

I am glad your DH is OK, and you are able to enjoy the rest of your vacation. When it was talked about on the podcast, never realized it was your family. He did say he had recovered and you were going on to WDW. That is scary, falling ill on vacation and having to go to unfamiliar surroundings far from home. Hope the rest of your vacation was wonderful.
********************************************************
No lyme disease, did not find that out until we had got back, I think the symptoms were probably due to stress trying to get everything done. DH actually had to go to the office the day we were scheduled to leave, so I could have had an extra day at work if I had known. We did not leave until the following day, and drove to Iowa in one day. Haven't done that for awhile and did not enjoy the straight through.

The wedding was nice. I couldn't find a dress I liked (I was looking for a long, casual one since it was a casual affair). Ended up wearing an old dress from 1999 when my mom married and I was her maid-of-honor. It was very comfortable, and it was not until I had come back that I realized how loose it was and that is was hanging on me! I had forgotten that when I wore it I was quite a bit larger and it was tight on me then. That made me feel better!

Then we drove to Wisconsin, next day Illinois, back to Wisconsin the following day, then back to Iowa to pick up MIL, then up to Nebraska for the reunion. We returned to Iowa that evening and then drove two days back. And then we had the frig fiasco I mentioned, and I had to go to work the next day.

Still have work I brought home that it would probably be best if I did, but the heat is kind of sapping any kind of motivation out of me, even though I am back OP. Went shopping yesterday for all the items I need, just too busy beforehand. It was kind of hard to be OP during the trip, with so much moving around and eating at weird hours. We were on the road more than relaxing with family. Joking that I am glad to get back to work to relax. But I was already on the laptop on the way home working on some spreadsheets to get a headstart and not fall too far behind.

Will need to get my weight in, and starting on the new HH, and sent my measurements into Janis. They weren't good, but noticed my ankles were also swollen, probably from a combination of the travel and heat. I am not good with heat, will be so glad when that front comes through, it is supposed to cool down to the 80's. Never thought I would be glad to see the 80's!

Hope everyone is doing well and OP!

Carol

Nope, not driving yet. He can't get a permit until 16 and he missed the driving training cut off by 2 weeks, had to be 16 by mid June. So we will probably get his permit soon and then he will take driver training in the fall.

I won't drive with him though. Since the car accident I can't even drive with DH, I would be a basket case with DS at the wheel!!
But we do talk about signs, road hazards, etc.

Sorry my QOTD made you sad, but you aren't back at square one. You still have a lot of positives, remember perspective!

I couldn't go shopping and feel comfortable, I couldn't run, I couldn't walk too far, I couldn't fit into a size 12 shorts. But now I can do all those things and soon I'll be able to do more!

My long term goals are to run a half marathon and get down another 29 pounds to reach goal. My short term goals at to make my 10% goal by July 21st- only a few more pounds to go!!

OK things I can do now. Well I have lost 35 lbs so far in last year, which I think is totally awesome, and I now get to buy clothes a size smaller. I got up courage to take lil princess swimming, first time in years I was in public in bathing suit. It was at nighttime, but I was out there. I havve a little more confidence now. As for goals, I want to get to onederland by end of year. I would like to go swimming in public during daytime LOL I want to be able to get a totally cute halloween costume so that lil princess and I can go to the MNSSHP in matching type outfits. Really long term, I don't want to ever become diabetic which I am at risk for since it runs on family.

So I am not so far behind, only one day late on QOTD :thumbsup2 I can't wait for later half of this month, I have a 4 day weekend and a five day weekend to look forward to. Also lil princess turns 3 on last day of the month. She finally picked out a Disney Fairies party theme since there is no Jake and Neverland Pirates stuff out there. I love havin a girly girl who also likes pirate stuff.

I'm back!

Cruise was amazing! Especially the food! Absolutely loved our server and assistant server! Too much to do on the cruise so we will have to go again! LOL!
I gained about 7 pounds over the 12 days we were away but with the 13 massages I am giving this week that should come off quickly as long as I can control what I'm eating! I've given 5 since I've gotten back.

Had a good but stressful week at Disney. The day we got off the ship I had 4 text messages from my sister about my dad. While driving to WDW I got another saying my mom was calling 911 as he was in a lot of pain. Apparently when he fell at my house the day before we left he broke a bone in his lower back. He had been to the ER while visiting my brother too. He is now in a rehab facility trying to walk again and do daily things. He has been having some memory issues as well. He was very confused the other night and called us twice asking where his car was and his clothes. I saw him a few hours on Friday afternoon after work. I had to work yesterday so my mother went down. My brother came down from VT to see him. Today my mom and Ashleigh are visiting him after church. Ash brought Yahtzee and another game to play with him. They are working on his fine and gross motor and playing games helps him. He is doing PT and OT and we were there during the sessions on Friday and participated in the OT session. He is also working with a speech therapist who specializes in Parkinson's patients. She is wonderful as are the PT and OT. I will go down tomorrow with Izzie for a bit. We don't want to overwhelm him with too many people. He tires easily. My mom and I are going to alternate days the beginning of the week as I have 5 clients each on Tuesday and Thursday and then 3 on Friday. I've taken next weekend off as we were supposed to do family things.

Not leaving the house today! I woke up with a headache and sore throat but am feeling better now. I'm watching Wimbledon and catching up on things. I may not even get dressed as I am physically and emotionally drained!

Having taco salad for supper today. It's just Brian, me and Izzie today so we will have something light for lunch.

Downloaded our photos from the trip last night and there were over 1800 plus some videos. I need to sort through them and delete bad ones and put them on our digital frame!

Time for some more water now! Izzie finally got up about a half hour ago so I think we will have some snuggle time too. She doesn't get much alone time with us so we're going to play some Wii later. She wants to do tennis since we are watching Wimbledon! It's getting her in the mood!

TTFN :tigger:

I'm glad the cruise was so good Tracey! Sorry to hear about your dad but it sounds like he's doing ok and is getting the help he needs.

So today is Sunday. Our lazy day.

QOTD

Do you have a lazy day at your house? If so what do you do or not do? If you don't, why not? Do you want one? Do you work out on your lazy day? Or do you take a rest day?

**************

Sunday's are usually our lazy day's unless DH is headed out of town, then the flurry of activity is focused on getting him out the door.
We don't have a lazy Sunday every weekend, even though I would love it. It really depends on how many things get done during the week.
As for exercise, I should rest on Sunday's but sometimes I squeeze in a workout if Saturday was so busy I didn't get one in.

:upsidedow It is so hard when you are on vacation. I am leaving this Saturday and I'm torn between eating what I want ... or controlling myself. I pretty much know I will be doing the ... eat what I want. I am going to try and exercise everyday if possible. But I know that won't make up for it all.

Love your quote ... again! :thumbsup2

A weekend day is our lazy day ... if we have one. When I am off during the summer, I find we have lazy days. However, when school is in, I am working, and the boys are here there and everywhere, there really are no lazy days. My weekends get filled with all the things I don't get done during the week.

I am also one of those people who has to be busy. It truly is a family trait on my mom's side of the family. I am lazy when I am reading a book that I just can't put down. That is when I "slug" the most. (We call our lazy day ... slugging around. :) )

Still sick. I started the antibiotic despite having not had the strep test because it was just getting worse but so far not feeling better. I've only taken 2 doses so far though. At this point my symptoms are sore throat, slight stomach ache (after I started antibiotic), headache, cancor sores, itchy ears, and what I think are cold sores in the corners of my mouth but I'm not sure if that's exactly what it is. Plus it's that TOM. Ugh!

I've pretty much stayed in bed for days. Tomorrow I'm off but I do have school and then tuesday it's back to work so hopefully I start to feel better by then. I hate being sick and my mom is of course mad at me that I haven't been at work. This from the woman who calls out all the time.

Sorry don't mean to complain. Just wanted to let everyone know I'm still alive.

So today is Sunday. Our lazy day.

QOTD

Do you have a lazy day at your house? If so what do you do or not do? If you don't, why not? Do you want one? Do you work out on your lazy day? Or do you take a rest day?

Sunday is definitely my rest day! I don't do much on my rest day besides a brunch sometimes, haha. Except for today- this afternoon was the first practice of the new kickball team I just joined! Turns out, I'm not half bad :) our first game is this Tuesday and it'll be a double header. If I get a team picture I'll be sure to post it :-)

My butt was whooped yesterday! I did a six-mile run for the ToT last night before sundown, and finished in 1:15! I was pretty excited for my time, I think its right on cue with where I'm supposed to be.

I have lazy days whenever I want one, unless I am working. Lazy days though kinda make me feel guilty, I feel better if I have accomplished something, even if it is just simple stuff.

I tend to exercise more on the weekends because I have more time. However, I do allow myself to sleep as late as possible on the weekends. I slept until about 10:30 this morning. Yesterday, I was up by 7, but I went to bed before 5 PM on Friday night. I was exhausted. I had had 2 massive vertigo episodes between 9 PM on Thursday night and 7 AM on Friday morning. It was not a good 12 hours. But, I am fine now and that's the important part. My med check doctor has been handling the vertigo and he asked that I call my ENT. His office should be calling me back tomorrow or Tuesday. He usually does surgery on Monday, so I'm expecting Tuesday and am fine with that. Hoping for a vertigo-free week!

Have a great week everyone!

Sorry that I have been MIA all week. I just had to switch branches for work and there is no time to jump on the boards there. I will be on vacation this week, but as soon as I get back I will get back to reading on posting. Hope that everyone had a great holiday this week as well as a great weigh in!!!
