Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Team Challenge for Losers and Maintainers!!!

Hello everyone! And thank you so much Lisah0711 for your amazing coaching this week. I love the lists and the WOO-HOO Wednesday!

Today is our last day on vacation. Tomorrow mid-day it's "Bye Bye WDW". :( It is always tough going back home.

If any of you are on Facebook and would like to see our pictures from WDW add me (Melinda Marble).

Have a great OP night everyone! We went to Hollywood Studios today. It was great! Enjoying the resort now. I am going on a run around Bonnet Creek in the morning before we get ready to leave.

Melinda

Good evening all! :goodvibes

Been a wild day on the Dis with the crazy mixed up threads as a result of the server upgrade. :crazy:

Please be sure and PM those numbers to Sue and CC tomorrow!

Buffy, there is plenty of time to figure out what you want to do in January. :donald: Good job staying OP!

THANK YOU LISA!!! I absolutely love your questions, thought provoking articles, and killer support!!! You really do make a difference in my motivation and feeling like I can get back on the wagon!

Aww, you are so sweet! Thanks! :flower3:

Hello everyone :) I would have to say the one thing I am doing today is realizing that what I am doing is really good for me.

That is super, Lynda! :goodvibes

Today, I'll take the next step in my running - today's C25K workout has me jogging for 20 minutes.

That is wonderful, Liz! :cool2:

Kristina, glad you are having a relaxing day.

Susan, glad you are feeling better. :flower3:

I feel a bit like a slacker...but it's because I've been working like a dog lately! It's all good, I need the money to put down on my upcoming trip to WDW for the ToT 10mi, which I haven't stopped my training for! So you're right, I'm so not a slacker :flower3:

Nope, not at all! Way to stick with the training! :thumbsup2

One thing I am going to do today is relaxation. I don't have time to go to the gym today, but I am going to try to do some stretching and deep breathing. I have been overly stressed lately and DH keeps telling me not to worry about things, but I can't stop lol. So, I am going to try to get some quiet, alone time and relax. Mental health is just as important as physical health!

Yes, rest and relaxation is very important for sure! :hippie:

Tracey, way to get that exercise going! :thumbsup2

Today at lunch I ordered the taco salad with grilled chicken instead of the steak burrito I would usually get.
This afternoon, after work - back in the gym!

A good lunch and a workout! Yay! :yay:

Linda, hope you are feeling better soon! :flower3:

Melinda, sorry you have to go home but I've loved your pictures! :love:

Off to do my run outside again -- beware bugs! :lmao:

Oops! Forgot to say I had a lot of fun coaching and thanks for all the nice things you all said! :flower3:

Welcome to Healthy Habits!

Every week you will have 4 “Habits” to do each day. There will also be 2 Mini-Challenges. These will be something like “Exercise for 45 minutes simultaneously once during the week.” The “Habits” will be things that are essential for good “Health.” One might be “Drink 6 8 oz. glasses of water per day.” I will be very clear about which 4 are for all 7 days and which 2 are the Mini-Challenges.

The Healthy Habits “week” is the same as for weigh-ins. A new “week” begins on Friday and ends on Thursday. At the end of each week, total your points and PM (private message) me them. Please list your total points in the subject of your PM. In the body of your PM, please separate each “Habit” and mini-challenge. Here is an example.
Habit #1: 5/7 days
Habit #2: 4/7 days
Habit #3: 7/7 days
Habit #4: 1/7 days
Mini-Challenge #1: Completed
Mini-Challenge #2: Not Completed

This will allow me to recognize participants who earned 7/7 for 1 or more “Habits.” It also gives me feedback for future weeks.

Please PM me your points by Tuesday at 5 PM Eastern Time. I will post the results as soon as possible after that. On random weeks, there will be a prize. Everyone who participates will be entered into the “hat” for a chance at the prize. I have bought many of the prizes already and I think they are great! :)

It is optional to participate, but I know I do so much better when I participate. :goodvibes

Welcome to Healthy Habits Week of 4/13: Matterhorn Bobsleds

As you know, I have never been to Disneyland. I am relying on the Disneyland website for this week's HH. Please feel free to offer any information.

For All 7 Days:

As I understand it, this ride is filled with curves. In honor of the curveballs that life throws us while we are trying to lose or maintain our weight...

1. Your “Habit” is to drink 64 oz. of water per day. Feel free to count 8 oz. of coffee or tea toward your total each day.

2. As you go about your day, write down everything you eat. This week, you "only" (your choice to add more) need to write down all the foods and and caloric beverages you eat/drink. Curveballs are not always easy, but it helps to know how things played out.

Climbing a mountain is no easy feat. One thing that helps us exercise is protein. Eat 2 servings of protein per day. (I'll let you decide what counts, but don't call your dairy serving your protein serving too.)

4. You have to be tall enough to ride this attraction. Each day, do something that makes you feel "tall." Ex: Give yourself a compliment.

Mini-Challenges:

1. I realized that I frequently ask you to exercise 7 days a week. However, that is not realistic. So, again for this week: Is your fitness plan ready for the month? Stick to it! If you complete all of your planned workouts, you completed this Mini-Challenge!

2. Did you include any strength training in your exercise plan? Include at least one strength training session during the week. Ten minutes is a great start! You will need your strength both physically and emotionally to tackle the twists, curves, and turns of everyday life.

Please, please feel free to ask any questions. You are welcome to PM me or post on the thread.

Hope everyone has a great week!

I have been tracking everything for the last four days!! Whoo-hoo!! :woohoo:

I feel a bit like a slacker...but it's because I've been working like a dog lately! It's all good, I need the money to put down on my upcoming trip to WDW for the ToT 10mi, which I haven't stopped my training for! So you're right, I'm so not a slacker :flower3:

Instead of putting in an order with some of the nurses for hot dogs, fries, and fried pickles (which is VERY hard for me to turn down!) I said No Thank You and went on my lunch break and ate my salmon and triscuits and apple. It was a good little overcome road block for me considering how good it all smelled :eek: But my salmon WAS pretty tasty popcorn::

Good job on the tracking--so far so good for me today. Sometimes I forget or am running behind and don't grab lunch for work-- your salmon gave me the idea I could always buy some smoked salmon...
Lol-- I thought today was Friday-- maybe by tomorrow I'll have lost a pound instead of having a maintain.
TTFN, Susan

Ugh, I had a post written and then the DIS went down.
Anyway, thank you Lisah0711 for coaching this week, your posts were so motivational!

QOTD: Today I drank enough water and did 30DS.

---
Hope you are all doing well, for some reason the tail end of this week exploded with things to do. I enrolled for my classes for next semester and finally get to start taking my graphics/photography classes. I'm very excited!

Made myself do 30DS tonight, especially since tomorrow is weigh-in day. Good luck everybody!

Well it's pretty close to midnight over here, so I guess it's safe to say...

:woohoo: Hi! My name is Ashley and I'm your coach this week! :woohoo:

(I really hope I don't mess this up...) :sad2:

A little about me: I'm in my 20's, I do singing and digital art in my spare time, I'm a lover of all things Disney, Sherlock, Superman and Doctor Who, and this is my 1st Biggest Loser challenge which I joined after a big scare with my blood pressure. Long story short, my blood pressure's back to normal, I've lost 25 lbs so far and am running my first 1 mile race this weekend! :banana:

But enough about me... This is about you! :thumbsup2

I've tried to think of some questions you'll enjoy. Some are health related, some are Disney related, but I look forward to picking all of your brains a little this week and will do the best I can to reply to everyone!

So here we go! popcorn::

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The other night as I was savoring some Hershey kisses, I realized how much my food of choice had changed since I started my weight loss journey.

Before, my dessert of choice had been 2 Swiss Cake Rolls and a huge glass of milk that totaled over 600 calories and I would have that almost every night!!! :eek: Now, it's 3 Hershey Kisses (66 calories) and that's MAYBE 2 nights a week. :thumbsup2

So it got me to thinking...

QOTD Friday 4/13/12: What was your food or dessert of choice before starting your weight loss journey and what is it now?

I'll be back later with replies! And please be sure to PM those numbers to Sue and CC!

Have a happy weigh-in today!

OK my woohoo moment for Wednesday is that fact that I haven't killed my kids yet. How many more days until they go back to school????
:rotfl: :rotfl:
Good morning all! :goodvibes

I enjoyed all the woo hoos yesterday! :woohoo: Thanks for sharing. :flower3:

For my last QOTD this week I am leaving you with a different list and some thoughts about ONE and keeping your MOMENTUM.

Here is an excerpt from an article that appeared on sparkpeople just yesterday called Keep Your Eyes OFF the Prize.

While each hill we encounter may feel like a roadblock, it's not. It's a challenge that, while perhaps long or hard, will eventually come to an end. If you keep moving forward, you will always reach the top. If you keep going from there, you will feel wind and gravity carrying you with speed and ease to the bottom. And once you're on a flat again, you appreciate it that much more. You harness that momentum from the downhill and keep pushing forward.

Eyes forward, I approach a hill like I would any other goal: one step at a time. Your goal may be big: to lose 100 pounds, to run a marathon, to pay down a large debt. If you only look at the end goal (the summit) from where you are now (the foot), it's easy to feel discouraged. But when you break it into smaller steps and keep your eyes focused on what you can do right now in this moment, the top doesn't matter anymore. All that matters is the next step you take.

Trust me, no one sets out to run a marathon thinking, "I am 26.2 miles from the finish line!" They take it one step and one mile at a time. And if you plan to lose 50 or 100 pounds—or whatever you goal—the worst thing you can do is focus on how far away that end goal is.

Break it down:

One step.
One minute.
One mile.
One workout.
One choice.
One bite.
One meal.
One hour.
One day.
One week.
One pound
.

As long as you're moving forward, you will eventually reach the top.

QOTD Thursday 4/12/12: Share ONE thing that you are doing today to help move you toward your goals?

Thanks everyone I had a great time coaching you this week! :goodvibes

I'll be back with some replies.

Thanks for all the great questions Lisa:) Today I went swimming even though I would have preferred not to and I'm so happy I did because I feel so much better for it:cool1:

My mums apple tart with lashings of custard at the start-no calories there:rotfl: Now I still love it but I have a much smaller slice and skip the custard plus I exercise for 30 mins to lessen the damage;)
I also asked my mum to make it a once a month treat rather than once a week so I could lose a few lbs and she was happy to support me:thumbsup2

Woohoo, thanks for coaching this week Ashley!!

QOTD: Oh, well...if I have to admit. I was an unhealthy vegetarian and for dinner I would have an entire box of macaroni with maybe fries, or pizza. My portions were outrageous, I don't know how I didn't weigh more than I did. :rolleyes1 I guess exercise took care of that. I would snack all day and usually end up with 10 reeses mini cups by the time the day was over.

Now, I actually love roasted vegetables and my favorite meal is brown rice w/quinoa and some roasted vegetables. For desserts, I'm a chocolate addict and try and put some into my day. Usually I'll end up with 2-3 reeses minis or some ghiradelli chocolate a day which is about 120 calories. I love my special k almond cereal with silk almond milk and strawberries too.

Oh good morning! I'm so tired, but hopefully today will go by fast, especially since I have a test. It sounds like it's pouring outside which is never good for a commuter. :sad2:

I woke up to another fabulous loss and right now I'm really just outstanding myself. I'm only 3.6 from my BL goal and 8.6 from my ultimate goal that I felt like I'd maintain. It's so crazy how 3 months can go by and I not even remember half the struggle and how I don't even realize how different I look because it's been so gradual. I have tried to lose weight like I did before but I didn't have the motivation or the knowledge. With everyone here and MFP it is so easy for me to see what I need to be doing. (Did that sound like an infomercial? :rotfl:) I guess what I'm saying is that I am so proud of myself. :banana:

Thanks for coaching this week, Ashley! We are also huge Dr. Who fans! My DH is actually wearing his Tardis shirt to work today! I got it for him for Christmas last year! Looking forward to the new season!

A slight gain for the week due to my overindulgences and lack of exercise last weekend! I'm ok with it since I did ti to myself and I am working hard to correct it!

Did 50 minutes on the elliptical this morning while watching Grey's Anatomy. I plan on another 50 this afternoon watching the new series Scandal. I likes last week's premiere episode. We're going out to dinner somewhere tonight so I need to compensate for that.

I picked up a new 24 week workout this morning at the Wellness Center. I couldn't get it on line and my supervisor knows how much I like to workout and I was looking for something new to try. I will let you know how it is. I'm going to bring it to work so I can read through the manual and figure out how to get started since I don't have 24 weeks. I may be able to do a few of the disks quickly since I should have some stamina to workout already! LOL!

Gotta get my tea as I have a headache coming on. Probably allergies but I had better nip it in the bud now before it gets worse!

QOTD Friday 4/13/12: What was your food or dessert of choice before starting your weight loss journey and what is it now?

This is a great question! I am a huge dessert fan, and feel like I must have something sweet, usually chocolate, after meals. (as in lunch AND dinner!!) But I have learned to work through it and now I try to only have one sweet a day--if any! That's huge for me. I've also tried to make it a smaller portion, just enough to satisfy my craving. Realistically I know I will never give up sweets, so I am really happy with my progress here. :woohoo:

Was back at the gym last night after about a week's absence! It felt not great, but good.

Thanks Ashley for coaching this week.
Dessert for me use to be a huge bowl of ice cream. While I still love the stuff, I know eat some cinnamon sugar pita chips, or a frozen fruit bar or even just chew on those Desserts gums (my fav is the orange cream!).

I am hoping to turn my attitude around soon. The scale is not my friend lately, but I don't want that to stop me from trying. I love seeing everyone's results, but I will admit to jealousy when I see someone with a 5 pound weight loss - how nice that would be.

I was doing a little better when I was writing everything down. I need to go back to that. Also, do better when I plan ahead - I did ok this week, need to do better next week.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Hoping to get my pool open this weekend and if I do - LAPS!!

QOTD Friday 4/13/12: What was your food or dessert of choice before starting your weight loss journey and what is it now?

I have a serious sweet tooth. Before I got serious about this journey, it wasn't so much that I had a go-to dessert, it was that I never said no to dessert. Ever. Now when we eat out, I often skip dessert, only ordering it when I know it's something special that I can make work with my food plan. Our favorite restaurant serves this amazing dark chocolate torta palla, and that's my absolute go-to. But it's infrequent, so it feels like a big treat when I do get it.

At home, I have a bowl of strawberries and blueberries with Splenda or Truvia on top and then a VitaTop (one of the chocolate varieties). I wait and have it later in the evening, and it feels much more indulgent than it is!

Yesterday's C25K run - my first for 20 minutes straight - was awesome! I consciously kept my pace slow and steady, and I felt like I could have kept on going no problem when the 20 minutes were up. This bodes well for the rest of the program, which has a few interval days left and then gets into the 25-30 minute jogs. Time to register for a 5K!

Melinda, I sent you a friend request on FB...I'm on as Liz Carlson Anderson.

Hope everyone has a great Friday!

XO
Liz

Good Friday morning

It has been a pretty good vacation. I spent a lot of time sewing.

I finished taxes yesterday but they were rejected since ds2 did not check a box that he needed to. SO now I have to refile his taxes, file an extension for myself and wait until the government takes care of his so I can deal with our. I am hoping that by the end of the school year it will be taken care of.

I have been making a coat for the head guard for a local production of the Wizard of Oz. The guy has a 46 in chest so I am working on an extra large costume. I have one more layer of trim to put on the bottom of the coat and then I have to put the three major components together, add some velcro and buttons. I have to drop it off tomorrow afternoon.

I am going to help sort costumes for our local high school with some friends. It shouldn't take us too long since there are 5 of us and two 8th graders looking for some community service.

Off to finish the coat. If I get a chance I will post a picture of it.

Have a happy and healthy day.

QOTD: Today I am getting back on track. Yesterday that headache never went away and I spent the day in my jammies trying not to throw up from the pain. Did go to DS2's baseball game and so about 8 PM things were tolerable. oh so nice! Today all is well.

Liz--whoo hooo :banana:
CC--:hug:
Susan--had to laugh at your mammogram story (sorry! I know they aren't comfortable) it reminded me of oh 20+ years ago I was a nervous wreck because I had a new doc and he was male. A first for me. Wasn't thrilled about having some fella other than DH touching me. I had gone a couple months without a self exam. Well, of course he found a walnut size lump. Then he sent me to a specialist (a male) and then I had to go to a surgeon (also a male). By the time it was removed (it was benign) I felt like every male doc in the county had seen me topless!

Whoever said that being here when things are going downhill was oh so right! I've had a crummy eating week, but know it would have been so much worse if I hadn't been reading along.

I've gotten my walk in, but think I might do my yoga video. I forgot to turn on my alarm for this morning and missed my stretching class! Hate it when I do that. :headache:

Have a great day!

I have yet to get my first mamogram but you guys are making me laugh as well as calming me down :) Thanks for sharing your story!!
Hope the headache has subsided!!

I really, really want dessert, but instead I am having a piece of mint hard candy! yeah me
OMG....I went to Walmart last night for tylenol and they had ALL the Easter candy on sale....KILLING ME!! I did walk right by, bought my tylenol, and had a small scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt when I got home. It was a close one....

QOTD Friday 4/13/12: What was your food or dessert of choice before starting your weight loss journey and what is it now?

I'll be back later with replies! And please be sure to PM those numbers to Sue and CC!

Have a happy weigh-in today!
Thanks for coaching Ashley!!

I don't think there was ONE food....it was many many many foods with sugar in them. Couple that with my gluten intolerance and I was eating so poorly all around. Now, I eat mostly the "outside aisles of the supermarket." More fruits and veggies, lean meats, and dairy. I still have ice cream but it's now frozen yogurt and I sometimes venture into the dark chocolate kisses. Still working on portions though...

Woohoo, thanks for coaching this week Ashley!!

Ice cream was absolutely my downfall! The dessert gum hits the spot when I need a little sweet ending to my dinner :) Hope you get the pool open!!

Great job Liz!! You are really becoming a runner and should be so proud of your progress!!! Look out 1/2 marathon!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Annoying parent meeting this morning set a yucky tone for my day....and to top it off I forgot my breakfast :scared1:
So I am CRAN-KEE!!! I'm trying to head to lunch a little early so I can savor a little bite and fill myself with good stuff...even though I am ravenous! Heading for a bit glass of water after I post...hopefully it will help!
Heading out to my walk last night and did 2.4 miles and dropped my time by a minute! It felt really good...just as being back on track felt really good too! I weigh in a WW tomorrow morning...last weigh in was 3/3/12!! Soooo nervous that I gained a lot...I mean I know I gained but I am hoping for 5 pounds maximum....we'll see what happens!
Quiet weekend in store and hopefully some outside time for a walk nearby, but I have monster laundry to do as well as food shopping. It's supposed to hit 80 in NJ on Sunday and I am dying to get my plants/flowers started...just afraid of the late frost killing them!
Happy Friday the 13th to all.....make it a lucky 13~~
Hugs!
Karen
Yahoo for all the losers! I am not one of them, and I knew I wouldn't be. Next week.
QOTD: ice cream. It is soooo gooood. But now I rarely eat it. The kids are ticked because I rarely buy it! Instead I have a glass of chocolate milk. Like so many others, I love chocolate to finish a meal, any meal. Sometimes I can skip it and sometimes I just have to have it! DH is addicted to Dove dark chocolate so those are always around if I can't resist and the milk isn't cutting it. Usually one of those is quite enough. I much prefer milk chocolate.
No big plans this weekend. Monday is a school district furlough day so it's a 3 day weekend. Unfortunately DS2 has something happening every single day so we can't head out of town! :mad:
Have a super weekend!
Good morning all! :goodvibes
Thanks for coaching this week, Ashley! :flower3: You're off to a great start! :thumbsup2
QOTD Friday 4/13/12: What was your food or dessert of choice before starting your weight loss journey and what is it now?
I used to always have a bagel and cream cheese for breakfast. I liked it, it was easy but it was a calorie buster and I was always hungry by mid-morning. Now I have an english muffin with egg. Far fewer calories and the protein really helps me to feel full most of the morning. :sunny:
Today I went swimming even though I would have preferred not to and I'm so happy I did because I feel so much better for it:cool1:
Super! :fish:
Kayla, congrats on your great loss this week! :yay:
Glad that you've had a good vacation, Dona! :goodvibes
Way to avoid the candy temptation, Karen! :thumbsup2
I really, really want dessert, but instead I am having a piece of mint hard candy! yeah me
You too, Linda! :cool2:
I'm happy to report that I am down 2 pounds and back to my all time low. Now it is time to get into some new territory and see if I can snag that 70 pound clippie before the end of the challenge. :goodvibes
Have a great day all!
CC, love the HH this week! :smickey:
A few Matterhorn facts for you: it was the first tubular steel roller coaster that is the norm for roller coasters now; the creature that lives there is the Abomindable Snowman -- he was added in the late 70's (not to be confused with the Yeti, denizen of Expedition Everest); there are two tracks and sides one is the Fantasyland and other in Tomorrowland side; there was a half court basketball court inside for the Alpine climbers on their breaks; you used to get to go through the Matterhorn on the Skyway but they've filled in the holes for good now.
Sorry, my great love for Disneyland is showing! :lmao:
The other night as I was savoring some Hershey kisses, I realized how much my food of choice had changed since I started my weight loss journey.
Before, my dessert of choice had been 2 Swiss Cake Rolls and a huge glass of milk that totaled over 600 calories and I would have that almost every night!!! :eek: Now, it's 3 Hershey Kisses (66 calories) and that's MAYBE 2 nights a week. :thumbsup2
So it got me to thinking...
QOTD Friday 4/13/12: What was your food or dessert of choice before starting your weight loss journey and what is it now?
I'll be back later with replies! And please be sure to PM those numbers to Sue and CC!
Have a happy weigh-in today!
I'm sure you will do mahhvelously!!
Good question! My favorite desserts are all still the same :rolleyes: BUT when I have them, I have far less of them and only on a couple nights a week like you do. I'm trying not to overload myself too much, so I'm in the process of finding WW foods that work for me (not necessarily WW-branded foods, but foods that keep me in my low point value for the day) and getting my training started for the ToT 10miler. My third weigh-in is tomorrow, so I'll let you all know how it goes!
I'm trying a couple WW recipes this weekend! The first is Mixed Berry Pancakes and the other is Feta and Egg Frittatas. They say both recipes freeze/reheat well, and I always run short of time in the morning, so hopefully this will help me stay on track. I'll let you know how they go!
