Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge--for Losers and Maintainers

dumbo_buddy the prenatal vitamins were hard on me too. I was sick for the first three months and the doctor told me that I could take two flintstone vitamins a day instead of the prenatals until my stomach was more settled. he said the flintstone vitamins will give me what I need and not be so hard on my stomach as the prenatals were. I was still sick of course lol but it helped a little. I just could not handle them that first three months.

well now I wish I had waited until today to submit my weight for the week LOL

yesterday I posted a GAIN :scared1: last week I was 224.0 and this week I was 224.4 but today I am 223.4 lol but I also have PMS (sorry for the TMI lol) so that's why my weight isn't moving much this week. blah.

Hi everyone. I had a good week and stuck to my diet. I lost 3 pounds. I've done the pity party in the past too and thats what brought me here to all of you. I love the way you incourage one another.

Sparks- I'm with you on the PMS!

I just finished going through about a dozen Family Fun magazines. I wanted to pull out some crafts and recipes that the family might like. I have a nice pile. The magazines had been piling higher and higher on the bathroom towel rack so I needed to do this and then we'll throw them in the recycle bin later today. We also watched Guys Big Bite and he made stuffed burgers and homemade fries. I'm in a cooking mood so I wrote down what I need to pick up at the grocery store later today.

Our menu for the weekend: B'fast and lunch for me will be shakes!
Dinner today will be scallion pancakes, cold cut paninis and honey stung drummies.
Sunday we will have more drummies and stuffed burgers and homemade fries.

At 12:45 Brian will take Izzie to soccer photos and then go do the dump run. At the same time I will pay a visit to the ATM to deposit my paycheck and then run to the grocery store. Ash says she'll stay here. I should run into KMart to see if my jeans are on sale but I may just wait until Wednesday to do that.

Ordered Ash's Star Wars craft book for her b'day and also Tron: Legacy and Voyage of the Dawn Treader! Kingdom Keepers will be arriving next week! I will have to wait a few extra days for the order I placed this morning but we have too many other things to watch in the meantime. I still want to rewatch Tangled sometime this weekend. Got church in the morning.

Time to put the magazines in the recycle bucket and get some cleaning done.

Have a great Saturday!

Good morning all! :goodvibes

Please be sure and PM your weights and HH numbers WITH YOUR TEAM NAME if you haven't already.

Goodnight everyone!

I have a busy weekend ahead of me.

Enjoy your busy week-end! :goodvibes

Rose- I am so sorry about the pain and the bruise. Ouch! I am having such a tough time with the fact that my knee just doesn't work right anymore. I am going to attempt another 5k tomorrow but it's distressing to have lost everything I'd worked for. I am really eager to hear about you running again.

Bless your heart, Cam. Good luck with your 5K today! Getting out there and doing it after all you've been through is totally rocking it! I believe that part of the WISH philosophy is that finishing isn't the miracle -- it's that you had the courage to start. :grouphug: And you can get out there and do a 5K. :cool2: Most people never got that far. :flower3:

Ugh! Lost most of my post. Can't figure how to do this on my iPad.

Lisa- thanks for asking about my knee. I can't imagine the rest of my life not being able to run or squat or kneel comfortably. Then again, I should be grateful for being able to walk.

Well, Cam, that totally stinks that the knee is not progressing as you had hoped. It is a big adjustment to learn to work with the body that you have. It will take some time and you have to mourn what you were hoping for. But there is nothing that says that it will be that way forever or that you can't progress. Think of LTS with her PF stuff and just recently she was told there may be some new treatments. It could happen to you, too. Never give up!

This thread is so fast moving!!!! :scared1:

Sorry I read the first page, but still am not sure how this works. Any hints?

I can’t believe that I forgot to say the Monkees. I never missed this show as a young teen. Not to make you too jealous, but I am going to be there for his concert. I just love going this time of year. I can’t believe that we will be there in 5 weeks. Oh, and Vern Yip is going to be there the same week too!

Don't worry about the thread speed -- just jump in where we are or read back a page or two. This was the first challenge in a long time that we had multiple threads. I'm really glad to be back to one thread because I missed keeping up with everyone and reading all the good info.

You picked a great time to give HH (Healthy Habits) a try since it is Pamper Week and you don't actually send your points in -- you can just practice. HH is a way to build good habits to help you with your goals. There are usually three tasks to try but you don't have to do them all. For every day you do the task you get a point.

And I am so jealous that you get to see Davy Jones soon! :cool2:

Surprisingly it is pretty common to have a negative blood test for gluten. Some people don't produce enough antibodies and some people just "aren't sick enough" for them to show up. I'm having some more tests run and should hear something next week. But honestly, I have no doubt anymore. I felt horrid yesterday. Bloated stomach, pain, cramps, tons of air bubbles. Feeling a little better today. Hopefully I have learned my lesson this time.:thumbsup2

Glad that you are feeling better, Rose.

QOTD--Friday--this is a marathon, not a sprint.:goodvibes

:thumbsup2 Isn't that the truth?

Cam this is why I will be locking my boys in their room through high school.:lmao: Just kidding. I hope he is able to make the right choice for both himself and his future. Im sure both schools are great.

QOTD Friday April 1st: Great news! The Biggest Loser folks have heard about our wonderful challenge and want to use your best tips for a healthy lifestyle from us in their new book. The bad news is that there is so much great information here that they can only take ONE tip from each of us. So please share your very best piece of advice for a healthy lifestyle.

Lisa when I read this question I actually thought you were serious for a second and got all excited.:rotfl2:

My tip would be: When all else fails try, try again.

Oh just wait, Lindsay. The girl thing will start sooner than you think or want it to. Last week before the big musical concert DS ran upstairs for a big handful of Altoids -- guess he had big hopes for something. :sad2:

I can't take the credit for the Biggest Loser thing -- that was actually a question pjlla did quite awhile ago and I shamelessly stole it. ;)
I do love your tip, though.

Had a pretty good week again, last week -- down another 2 pounds.

:woohoo: Nice job!

I did the quiz and got on the way, but I don't feel like I"m as on the way as I was last year when I did the quiz or one like it before. I remember before I had the princess half as my goal, and was really motivated. My goal now is Onederland, but I'm heading away from it the past 2 weeks, and to keep run/walking 3-5 days a week, and am pretty much making the 3. Looking for the motivation this morning to get out there. The sun is shining, it's about 40 degrees, so I have no excuse.

Thanks Lisa for getting me to look at my goals. I think I am going to get out all my ww materials, and sit down, maybe get a new journal, and start fresh this weekend.

I got on my way for my quiz answer, too, Kathy, but I'm with you in feeling that maybe I was not heading in the right direction! :lmao: I'm thinking about taking a page from Pamela and Lindsay's books and doing a do over with everything. I think I will look at my Biggest Loser 30 Day Jump Start book. I don't think it matters what you do -- just that you do something that will work for you!

Hope that work thing doesn't interfere with your run this morning! :flower3:

It is cold, wet and rainy here this morning so I am heading to the indoor track to do 9.5 miles -- that's 104.5 laps around the track. :rolleyes1 Good thing the iPhone is charged up!

Enjoy your Saturday! :flower3:

Got a beautiful picture of a male and female cardinal at my feeder with snow falling around them this morning.... guess this will be a good start for my Picture of the day for April.

DD and I have cooked up a few April Fool's pranks to play on DH. He's great at April Fool's Day pranks... hope we can get him back today!
That sounds like a great picture. I've always wanted to do one of those picture of the day albums but I just never get to it.

Speaking of April Fools- my DH never pranks me. But yesterday he got me. I picked him up at work and he came out with a box of his things. He told me he got into an argument with one of the bosses and she fired him. He used elements of truth of things that I knew had already happened and he looked really upset, so I didn't suspect. I was freaking out. When I took off my seatbelt, he knew I was about to do something so he had to come clean. I almost killed him!

Going to go home and put on my jammies and relax with the family the rest of the day when I go home. Maybe watch Tangled again as I missed half of it! I also need to watch Private Practice.
TTFN :tigger:
Ha! That's exactly what we did last night. But in reverse order. We also added in an episode of Boardwalk Empire. We are watching it on HBO demand and are really enjoying it.

My minor triumph: the belt I normally wear with jeans -- which used to religiously sit done up on the 3rd hole in -- is now on the 5th and getting loose. Might be time to dig out the smaller belt. It's those small things that get me all :woohoo: Not bothered trying on any of the old clothes yet because I don't want to disappoint myself. ;)
That's awesome! What a great feeling. I bought a pair of Mickey workout capris at walmart yesterday. I bought a large thinking I was still a few weeks away from getting into them. Not only did they fit, but I had to tighten them! I love it when you can see your results in your clothing!

So the QOTD is QOTD Saturday 4/2/11 Are you prepared to reach your goals? You can take the quiz and tell us your answer or just tell us how you feel and whether you feel like you are prepared to reach your goal.

Have a great evening all!
My results are I am prepared to reach my goal.

Ugh! Lost most of my post. Can't figure how to do this on my iPad.
!
It gets easier! I used to have my response on one page and the thread on another but that didn't work so well. The easiest way for me is to just write my responses on paper, but I don't always get to do it that way. For multi quoting I use the select tool to move up or down since there is no other way to do it. My lap top is so screwed up I try to avoid it if I can. Last night it took me 3 hours to update my dining review since my laptop kept overheating and shutting down. Unfortunately I can't do that on my iPad.

Well I have the best schedule today (next to being off). I work 1-5 pm. I never get 4 hour shifts! But I also worked 2 open/close shifts and only had one day off this week.

I agree with all the pms talk, I am so lucky I recorded my weight when I did- it skyrocketed right after. I am up close to a pound and a half since yesterday. I know it's water weight though, so I am not worried. I am trying to increase my water and decrease my salt and diet soda. This is the only time I go out of control with it. Other than that, I am on plan.

Survived the Brain Game. We had so much fun!!
If any of you have kids that are in elementary or middle school I highly recommend it!! They travel all over the US.
We also broke the book fair down last night so I don't need to go in Monday!! :woohoo:

I think I got about a million steps in yesterday, school was hopping!

Glad to be back in the game now though. I have 2 weeks til Disney and I need to focus on me for those 2 weeks.

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Cam--funny story. So I told Mike that Andrew is probably going to UD and he reminded me of last Feb. when we were visiting Tom. It was the first warm weekend that year (yes in February) and we took Tom and 5 of his friends out to dinner at the Vista--which is this clubby/restaurant area. Anyhow, the girls were out in full force in mini-skirts and the boys were so happy--they informed us they hadn't see skirts in awhile since it had been cold!:rotfl2: The girls wear their minis with either flip-flops or cowboy boots--Tom told me it depends on what part of the state they are from. That's what they wear to the football games and all around campus. If it's raining you will see some rain boots. It is quite the fashion experience down there.:thumbsup2 Anyhow, just thought I'd share in case Andrew reconsiders.:goodvibes

My tip would be: When all else fails try, try again.

I have been in a self induced pity party lately too. Not even sure the main reasons why. Partially I think its this never ending dreary weather, I am not getting out running mainly due to my own fault of not planning and using excuses, and I have just been eating whatever which we all know that is not a healthy lifestyle. So today I am proclimating a new start yet again. Like I said when all else fails TRY TRY again. Im not giving up!!!!!

I have a book from prevention magazine called the 2 week turn around. It is a 2 wk eating/exersize plan mainly to use to kick start your weight loss. It basically is portion control/and follows the food pyramid of how much protien, carbs, fat, fruits, veggies you should have, etc. So here is what I am eating today.

BF- whole grain cereal w/ FF milk, strawberries, turkey bacon
a.m. snack- cheese stick, pear
lunch- rotissere chicken, tomato, and ff mayo on one slice of wg bread
pm snack- 8oz of ff milk
dinner- broiled fish, steamed broccoli, and 1 slice of wg bread

The exercise plan is a half hour of walk/run at different intensities so I will incorparate that into my run today. It also requires a half hour of strenght exercise too.

I am looking forward to the day today. We also are taking Nick to Toys r us to make a short wish list for his bday. My family always wants specific ideas so this should be helpful for them. I also am going to my cousins purse party tonight and I am hoping I can control myself when the snacks come out.

Have a great day!!!!
All you can do is the best you can do Lindsay.:goodvibes The two week turn around sounds like a great plan. Have fun at the party. The sun is out here today--still chilly, but it's so wonderful to see the sun.:goodvibes

Congrats!

Ok, I'm going to get moving now and put in some laundry, do last nights dishes, and am hoping to meet my friend and run at 10:30. I'm on call this weekend and the hospital just called but it was just with a question, so I'm hoping I don't get called in. I hope the good weather is motivating. I just had a banana and will have a yogurt before I go. Starting off on the right foot.

Have a great weekend everyone!!:)
Kathy--hope it was a good run with your friend.:goodvibes You all do realize how jealous I am of your runs.;) And I hope you don't get called in!

Hi everyone. I had a good week and stuck to my diet. I lost 3 pounds. I've done the pity party in the past too and thats what brought me here to all of you. I love the way you incourage one another.

I hope your run went well and that there are no injuries! I hated dealing with girls in middle and high school. One of Tom's girlfriends in high school called me up to have a confab as to why I thought he broke up with her--uhh, because you are smothering him!:thumbsup2 I don't miss that part of having a kid at home at all!

Seriously--I would have killed Mike if he did that! You are such a good sport.:goodvibes

Survived the Brain Game. We had so much fun!!

It's those small things that get me all :woohoo: Not bothered trying on any of the old clothes yet because I don't want to disappoint myself. ;)

I'd recommend you take a gander at this list of foods and see if anything strikes your fancy; it includes dairy from the most recent SB version, which the older book doesn't. Some of the foods that helped me immensely were yogurt (fat free Greek, Fage brand) and lots of beans (black, kidney, pink). Hope that helps. :goodvibes

Great NSV with the belt!! And thanks SOMUCH for the link. I'll definitely take a peek tonight.

Oh, I would love to see your cardinal pictures, Pamela. I've always wanted to see a cardinal in the wild. :donald: (This is the closest thing to a bird emoticon we have! :rotfl:)

I'll try to post one in the next few days.

Ok, I am going to come clean here in the hopes that I get my act together. I have been wallowing in self-pity this week. I am a big believer that sometimes you just have to have a little pity-party, grieve what you need to grieve and move-on, but I have let this go on too long.

Between the food (I had g-f burn-out this week) and the messed up leg, I was just about ready to throw the towel in. My knee is still a mess and I just have really been struggling with the food. I made the very (un)wise decision last night to have regular beer and french fries when we went out, I decided I didn't care. Let's just say gluten is not my friend, and my body has been very unhappy with me today. Lesson learned.:thumbsup2 I'm taking a couple of days off from all exercise except my rehab stuff and Monday I'll be back at the chiropractor. As for the food--I'm back on the g-f bandwagon.:goodvibes I'm going to keep working on my patience and maybe look to my friends for a few more hugs until things get a little more back to normal. Exercise is my stress reliever and obviously I am not handling things very well right now. But I will just keep swimming. :goodvibes

Wish I could offer more than just a hug, but you KNOW what you need to do... you have the knowledge and the tools....but right now you don't havethe motivation or inspiration because of frustration and things not going right. And who can blame you?? JUST KEEP GOING!! Eat right and do whatever exercise you can....and whatever happens on the scale for the next few weeks/months....so be it!! If you gain, you'll lose it again when the leg is better. If you lose.... great. If you maintain... perfect. JUST DON'T GIVE UP!!

Rose- Let me be the first to send you a big, fat hug! I am so sorry that your theory about needing to be g-f was so on target and that you learned it the hard way. And I can definitely relate to the serious need to have that stress reliever of running or doing some intense cardio. Let me just say I think you are doing amazing. And speaking of swimming, any chance that might be the answer for you for the interim?

I was thinking the same thing!!

Thanks Cam. :goodvibes I keep thinking of you and what you went through last summer and tell myself to get it together! (Though I must say I have a very impressive bruise right now. It starts at my knee and goes towards my hip for about 8 inchs and is about two inches wide. No pain no gain, I guess.) Anyhow, I am a horrible swimmer, though I keep talking about lessons, so maybe it's time! Mike keeps saying we should do a water aerobics class, I just need to go get a one piece that fits. Thanks for the reminder.:goodvibes

Has Andrew decided about school?

You might want to try the water aerobics. And don't be put off by all the old ladies!! They had some very reasonably priced swimsuits at TJ Maxx this morning.

as for me, nothing really new to report. my stomach issues ARE still around. i think it may be the prenatal vitamin i've been taking? i didn't take it yesterday and was ok. took one this morning and spent most of the afternoon in the bathroom. i can't take it anymore! my poor son is bored out of his mind with me. we did spend the morning at Wee Play which he LOVES but we needed to leave after only an hour or so b/c i had to GO. and i barely made it home. BARELY.

ok, this is way too much sharing on my part. i'm just so frustrated that i can't get rid of this. hopefully it's the vitamin and i'll be on my way to better soon!

have a great friday evening everyone. DH is picking up pizza for himself, a big salad for me (with mozz cheese of course) and DS and i will split a slice. then...i'll probably be in bed by 8:30! lol!

Ask to be put on another prenatal vitamin. No sense in being miserable!!

Evening All!

I have been and am quite sick. I thought that I had an ear infection so I went to the doctor today, and behold, I do not. If only I knew why my ears hurt so :confused3. I do have something bacterial, so I'm on an antibiotic, plus something for my cough. Add that to the meds I already take and I feel like a pharmacy. ;)

I apologize profusely for not posting this week's Healthy Habits. It didn't even register that today is Friday. :headache: I had been toiling with the idea of another pamper week, and this seems like the perfect time for one, so that is my game plan. There are no HH points to count this week. This week is all about you!

COW Pamper Week, Saturday:
1. Give 5 hugs.
2. Drink an extra glass of water.
3. Read a good book.

No need to apologize!! You are always there with the HH and such. If you are feeling poorly, take some time to take care of yourself. We will be here when you are better!!

This is the time in the challenge where we start to find ourselves in a bit of a funk. The fun and excitement of our new lifestyles is wearing thin. Life happens and throws a bunch of obstacles in our way and, quite frankly, some of this stuff just isn't so fun anymore. :sad2: When this happens sometimes it helps to review what has worked and what hasn't and maybe try a few new things. So my theme for the week is "back to basics." And, of course, I have my handy, dandy friend sparkpeople.com to help! ;)

So I have a little quiz for you called Are You Prepared to Reach Your Goals? which starts by saying:

One of the reasons so many people fail to reach their goals--whether losing weight, exercising consistently or eating healthier--is because they fail to prepare. Anyone can set a goal, but it takes preparation, planning and motivation to see it through to the end. Take this assessment to find out if you're on the right track to reaching your goals!

Here is the link to the quiz:

http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/assessment_questions.asp?quizid=52

So the QOTD is QOTD Saturday 4/2/11 Are you prepared to reach your goals? You can take the quiz and tell us your answer or just tell us how you feel and whether you feel like you are prepared to reach your goal.

Have a great evening all!

I'll be sure to check out the link and answer the QOTD tomorrow....but right now I'm running out of time!

South Beach is a great way to lose weight. But it is really more of a lifestyle change to me than a diet. Phase 1 will usually take quite a few pounds off in two weeks. I see that you are posting on the South Beach Diet thread. You should get some good advice there too. I know a lot of people think that South Beach is low carb. But really it is good carbs. It is not like Atkins. You get to eat most veggies and nonfat dairy even in Phase 1. I did South Beach a number of years ago and took off quite a few pounds and kept it off eating Phase 3. But then things went pretty crazy in my life and I put all of it plus some back on. But now I am getting geared up to start Phase 1 this Monday. It does take a lot of meal planning and a good shopping list. But it is pretty easy to follow.

Thanks for the info.

Had a pretty good week again, last week -- down another 2 pounds.

Great job.

IPamela- Good luck with the south beach. My friend Jane who was near her goal weight, in the high 140s, started atkins after the holidays, and she has loved it and has lost 17 pounds. I think mixing it up can make a big difference, and I hope you'll see those last few pounds fly away. I'm thinking maybe I need to do something different from ww to get my focus back.
Have a great weekend everyone!!:)

Thanks for the info. I definitely don't have 17 pounds to lose....but I'm getting pretty frustrated with this same 3-5 that just won't budge! Hopefully this will help....but honestly, I'm only 10 hours into it and I'm dying for a piece of fruit!!:rotfl:

Hi everyone. I had a good week and stuck to my diet. I lost 3 pounds. I've done the pity party in the past too and thats what brought me here to all of you. I love the way you incourage one another.

GOOD JOB!

TTFN :tigger:

As usual, you've been super busy!!

It is cold, wet and rainy here this morning so I am heading to the indoor track to do 9.5 miles -- that's 104.5 laps around the track. :rolleyes1 Good thing the iPhone is charged up!

Enjoy your Saturday! :flower3:

Love to hear if you made it the full 104 laps! I think I'd be so bored, I'd give up!

I've got that BL 30 day book too and maybe I should pull itout. I just need SOMETHING to change here!! I stay on plan and count my points week after week after week after week....and I exercise regularly.... same thing I was doing last year and the year before.....but this stubbornfew pounds just won't disappear! We'll see howthis works.

Wellfriends.....I am running super late now!! Gotta leave for DD's swim banquet in 30 minutes and the gifts aren't wrapped and I'mnot even dressed for it yet. And this STUPID keyboard is all sticky.... right shift button and space bar are not working right!!

TTYL.......................P

Good Saturday afternoon teams.

I have been having a lazy day. I have been uploading pictures to snapfish. The pictures are from the show I was working with the beginning of March. I wanted to get it done today. I just did some dishes and now I have to think about dinner. Dh will be home later and I don't know when. Ds says he is going out with gf so it will just be me.

I don't have too much to say today since it has been very quiet here.

Off to download some more pictures.

Have a happy and healthy evening.

Thank you for understanding. I am feeling much better. I give my doctor's office the credit here. I mentioned the ear pain and one of the nurses felt I should come in-no waiting until days of coughing and sneezing! I only needed one cough drop today. It's the little things. :rolleyes1

I didn't eat much today. My appetite was pretty much nonexistent and I slept on and off (well, pretty much on) from about 11 AM to 4 PM. I think my body needed the rest. I have a hunch I got the cold from going, going, going for too long.

I'm hoping to go to the gym on Wednesday. I should be feeling well enough by then. I'll start small and work my way back up to five minute miles on the recumbent bike. I'm considering trying C25K outside. My neighbor asked me to join her for a walk-a-thon type event and it's a 5K walk. If I say yes, I need to be prepared to walk that far. Right now, I can barely walk around the small loop in my neighborhood. As much as I find the treadmill extremely boring, I'm a treadmill kind of girl. :confused3

Have a great, OP day tomorrow everyone!

COW Pamper Week, Sunday:
1. Read the Sunday newspaper. Enjoy the comics.
2. Spend some time listening to relaxing music.
3. Indulge in a milkshake (made with fat free milk, lowfat/nonfat ice cream or frozen yogurt, and some strawberries).

I ended up taking Izzie for photos as Brian wouldn't have known what package to order. We left there and headed to the ATM and grocery store. As soon as I got to the ATM the spa called and someone wanted to know if they could come in for a massage. Now this was close to 1:30 and we close at 4. I had to say no, as I had just gotten to the other side of town to go to the grocery store and I was not dressed for work and didn't have my ipod with me which contains all my music. I guess I'm not safe to do shopping on Saturdays until after 2:30. Why do people wait until the last minute???!!!! I felt bad but I didn't get home until 2:30 and I don't think I would've been focused enough to perform a great massage.

Made homemade scallion pancakes to have with supper tonight! They turned out really good. The sauce was ok. We also had cold cut paninis on tortillas. Tomorrow is stuffed burgers and homemade fries that we saw on Guy's Big Bite today. I still need to pick up the chorizo after church tomorrow. I did get the bacon and I have lettuce and buns. Might also make his Worcestershire ketchup. It's fun cooking new recipes on the weekends. We also had honey stung drummies and I'm proud to say I only ate 3! They were so good but I was trying to be good. But, of course, I'm on my second drink! Oh well, I have been drinking water too. I hope to get in a workout tomorrow at some point.

We're playing Lego Star Wars again. It's fun. I'm doing laundry in between so this is my break! Need to get back to playing!

Keep those weigh ins coming!

AND, YES, YOU STILL NEED TO SEND ME YOUR TEAM NAME AND YOUR ACTUAL WEIGHT! YOU ARE NOT LATE UNTIL AFTER 7:30 PM on Monday night East Coast time! I'm going to try and get out the results on Monday nights after 7:30. If you send them in late, your weights will be recorded after I have posted results on the current week's results!

On a good note, Brian and I have plans to have at least a double date with Redwalker and her husband at the end of the month. Not sure if others will join us or not but just excited to be going out. DSIL is going to take our kids overnight that Saturday night! They are way over due for "Auntie Boot Camp" as she likes to call it! We haven't seen her in a few months. She and I are spending the day together the day before watching the Royal Wedding. We've both already taken the day off!!!!

TTFN :tigger:

That's awesome! What a great feeling. I bought a pair of Mickey workout capris at walmart yesterday. I bought a large thinking I was still a few weeks away from getting into them. Not only did they fit, but I had to tighten them! I love it when you can see your results in your clothing!

My results are I am prepared to reach my goal.

Congratulations on fitting in the pants that you thought wouldn't work! :thumbsup2 I think that is a hard mental adjustment moving from worrying that things are too small to realizing that they are perfectly fine. It takes awhile! :goodvibes

Glad that you had a good time, Buffy! :flower3: I will have to check out Brain Game online. It sounds like something the middle schoolers would enjoy.

Ah, something to look forward to! :scared1:

Wish I could offer more than just a hug, but you KNOW what you need to do... you have the knowledge and the tools....but right now you don't havethe motivation or inspiration because of frustration and things not going right. And who can blame you?? JUST KEEP GOING!! Eat right and do whatever exercise you can....and whatever happens on the scale for the next few weeks/months....so be it!! If you gain, you'll lose it again when the leg is better. If you lose.... great. If you maintain... perfect. JUST DON'T GIVE UP!!

This is so true! ::yes:: Things aren't always going to go the way that you want but if you keep going forward and never give up you will get where you are supposed to be -- it may or not be where you thought you were supposed to be! :hippie:

Love to hear if you made it the full 104 laps! I think I'd be so bored, I'd give up!

Well, I did not make it to the 104 laps. :sad2: I went to 7 miles or 77 laps in about 2 hours. My hips which were bothering me before I started really started bothering me as I got into the run. I ran the soreness out at mile 5 but when it can back at mile 6 it wasn't budging. I decided to take my own advice and work with the body I had today, which needed a little break after so much riding in the car. It actually worked out better to switch my weeks around a bit here so I can do a longer run next week-end and a my 5 mile race for my short run the following week-end. Otherwise I would have had an 11 mile run, then my 5 mile race the next day. That would not work for me. My all time record at the indoor track was 10 miles -- 110 laps. I have my music and the various people there to entertain me. :rolleyes1

Dona, enjoy your quiet, relaxing day! :flower3:

CC, glad that you are feeling better! Thanks for the pampering tasks! :flower3:

BRB with the QOTD.

Tracey, sounds like a busy week-end! :goodvibes How nice to be able to get out with Redwalker and her DH for a change.

I'm continuning with the back to basics theme for my questions this week. Today I want to talk about STRESS. We all have it. We can't control what happens to us but we can control how we react to it. We also can avoid adding to the stress in our lives in our quest for a healthy lifestyle.

Here is a link to a sparkpeople.com article called "Is Weight Loss Stressing You Out?" http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/wellness_articles.asp?id=473 that talks about weight loss expectations and has a little quiz to help you evaluate yours.

It tells us that the unfortunate part is that this constant stress can make losing weight more difficult than it needs to be. Research shows that chronic stress can affect your metabolism, promoting fat storage, and increasing cravings for sugary, high-fat “comfort foods.

There are lots of things you can do to manage this stress, ranging from yoga and meditation to a hot bath or a pleasant walk in the park. In this article, however, we’ll focus on how certain (very common) expectations about weight loss can cause stress, and how you can adjust your expectations so that you’re not stressing out about your own weight loss (or lack thereof).

To find out whether your expectations about weight loss may be increasing your stress levels, take the following brief quiz. Indicate whether you think the following statements are true or false. To benefit from this exercise, your answer should reflect how you honestly feel most of the time, NOT what you think the “correct” response might be.

I have taken a careful look at my eating and exercise habits, and I have a good idea of what I need to change and how I want to do it.

I have accepted the idea that I need to make permanent changes in my lifestyle to lose weight and keep it off permanently.

I will feel successful only if reach my weight loss goal.

I know that it took time to gain weight, and I believe it is best to try to lose
the weight slowly.

I am working on weight loss now because I really want to, not because someone else thinks I should.

If I can manage to lose the weight, I think many other problems in my life will be solved.

I am willing and able to do a significant amount of physical activity on a daily basis, including planned exercise.

I can lose weight successfully with no slip-ups.

I am ready, willing, and able to spend enough time each day planning and tracking my food intake and exercise activities.

If my weight loss slows down or stalls out, I usually lose my motivation and stop my program.<

When I am having problems sticking to my plan, I usually get on the message boards or the phone and talk about it with other people.

I have many stressful situations in my life right now, but I'm determined to be successful at weight loss.

Scoring the QuizLook at your answers to questions 1,2,4,5,7, 9 and 11, and give yourself 1 point for every True answer, and 0 for every False. For questions 3,6,8,10 and 12, give yourself 1 point for every False answer, and 0 for every True. Add your total points up to get your score.

A high score (7-12 points) shows that your expectations about weight loss are more realistic, and you are more likely to reach your goal.

Each question you scored a zero for represents a misconception or unrealistic expectation that might be adding unnecessary stress to your weight loss efforts.

For example, a zero on Question 11 (you don’t talk to others when you have trouble sticking to your plan) may indicate that you tend to keep problems to yourself, which can add even more stress to the difficulties you are already having.

Scoring zero on Question 8 (believing you can lose weight successfully without slipping up) may mean that you are unrealistically expecting perfection. Slip-ups are inevitable, but they also help you learn from your experience. Expecting to be perfect creates more stress when things don’t turn out as desired. Plus, you will learn less about what does and does not work for you in different circumstances.

Likewise, a zero on Question 12 (determination for weight loss despite high stress in other areas of your life) may indicate that you don’t fully appreciate the difficulties of trying to lose weight, or the importance of modifying your weight loss expectations when other aspects of life become difficult. Sometimes, just holding your own and not gaining (or regaining) weight is a very significant accomplishment!

Finally, the most important concept—if you scored a 0 on Question 6 (believing that weight loss will solve many other problems in your life), you may be expecting more than weight loss can deliver, setting yourself up for problems both now and after you reach your goal.

At least two negative things can happen when you start looking at weight loss as the “magic” solution to everything. First, this puts an awful lot of pressure on the daily ups and downs of your weight loss journey. Every slip-up or bad day, every weight plateau, becomes magnified in importance because, in your head, it is linked to so many other important things. You can imagine how much extra stress you generate if going over your calorie budget or skipping an exercise session has come to mean that the career or the relationship you want is that much further away.

Second, the belief that you have to lose weight before you can start living the life you want only keeps you from creating that life right now.

When healthy eating and exercise are just a small part of what you do to care for yourself, you'll likely decrease stress and progress towards your weight loss goal. A big part of making a successful lifestyle change is putting your weight in meaningful perspective—and you can start doing that right now!

So now that you know how stress can affect your weight loss efforts, think about what you can do to make that stress go away.

QOTD Sunday April 3, How do you de-stress and relax? Does it help you with your efforts toward a healthy lifestyle?

* Meditation, visualization, breathing techniques
* Get a massage or take a hot bath
* Gentle exercise like yoga and Pilates
* Nothing short of an intense workout
* Take a get-away or short trip
* Something other than above (and tell us what it is).

I'll be back tomorrow with my answer.

Have a great evening all!

Hello everyone. We just got back from our cruise and I just saw that I was #1 for last week. I am afraid to step on the scales tomorrow morning. We had a great trip though and I will just get back on-plan.

4 assignments left and my Bachelors is complete. I'm going to busy from tomorrow through the end of next week trying to get everything done and turned in.

44 days til our May trip! I can't wait to spend 8 nights at Baylake!!

Nice work on the 77 laps. It sounds like that your plan works out really well with your 5 mile race in 2 weeks. 7 miles is pretty good when you already were sore starting out. You are inspiring me, lady.

I do like to have a few grown up drinks, but I know that's not what we're looking for here. Getting out for a walk/run or bike ride, mindlessly surfing the internet will help decrease the stress some days. I would say I'm not a high stress person, and when I'm really feeling it, I might talk to a friend about it. I absolutely love planning vacations, and having something to look forward to, even if it's one night away somewhere. I'm planning our summer vacation now, but want to keep the costs down this year, so I'm toying with different options.

The girl thing will start sooner than you think or want it to. Last week before the big musical concert DS ran upstairs for a big handful of Altoids -- guess he had big hopes for something.
:rotfl2: So not ready for this. When I picked up michael the other day he was joking around with a girl in his afterschool club, teasing each other, and when we got home he had a note from her that said, "love ya, sweet thang." and he was going to save it. The only comfort about the girl thing is it should make him want to shower eventually. :lmao:
Well I have the best schedule today (next to being off). I work 1-5 pm. I never get 4 hour shifts!
I love my 4 hour shifts, too. It goes by so quickly.

Kathy--hope it was a good run with your friend.:goodvibes You all do realize how jealous I am of your runs.;) And I hope you don't get called in!
Thanks rose. I didn't get called in yesterday, and fingers are crossed for today. Yesterdays run was nothing to be too jealous of.:rotfl2: I went with my friend, and neither of us was feeling great, and we ended up walking more than running. Though I know you'd take a bad run any day, and I'm going to remember that next time I'm out and appreciate the fact that I can get out there and run. Hug to you. I so hope you are able to run again soon without the pain.

I have been having a lazy day. I have been uploading pictures to snapfish. The pictures are from the show I was working with the beginning of March. I wanted to get it done today.
Hope you enjoyed your lazy day, Dona.

Glad you're feeling better, CC. Like today's challenge. I've been meaning to bring the blender out and make some smoothies, so I think I"ll do that later. I know a Mcd's shamrock shake wouldn't probably count.;)

I've got that BL 30 day book too and maybe I should pull itout. I just need SOMETHING to change here!! I stay on plan and count my points week after week after week after week....and I exercise regularly.... same thing I was doing last year and the year before.....but this stubbornfew pounds just won't disappear! We'll see howthis works.

..................P
I have a good feeling about you. I think you will see those last few pounds come off with the change in plan. :thumbsup2

Good morning everyone. We had a relaxing day yesterday. I did my run/walk and then went to pick up michael and visited with my sil for a while. Then we came home, I read for a while in the afternoon, the book I started in Disney world last month, and we watched Oceans last night. It was great, and michael loved it. Made me think my next trip we need to pull ourselves away from disney for a day and hit SeaWorld. I had picked up some books on new england bike trails, and walking trails, so I looked through them too. Then after ds went to bed, I watched some old grey's anatomy's on net flix.
I didn't pull out the ww stuff, but I am going to make a plan for meals for this week, and journal my food again. The sun is shining, so I need to get moving.

Have a great sunday.:)

good morning everyone! i'm just popping in quickly to say hello before we head out to church. party yesterday was very cute but thomas was in a mood of all moods. i guess it was the lack of nap. he would NOT go on the pony. he kept pointing to it but then when we'd try to put him on he'd scream. oh well. he enjoyed it from afar!

we are heading to the zoo today. it's supposed to be 57 today!

tomorrow is my first OB appt. i am trying not to freak out and just tell myself that whatever will be, will be. but i think we all know how that is easier said than done! kind of goes with lisa's stress QOTD - you can't control the stress but you can control how you deal with it. so, i will try to be active and keep my thoughts on other things until 3pm tomorrow instead of just sitting around and eating everything in sight (what i'd normally do).

Hello everyone. We just got back from our cruise and I just saw that I was #1 for last week. I am afraid to step on the scales tomorrow morning. We had a great trip though and I will just get back on-plan.

Welcome back Kristi! Don't stress about it too much. If you get right back on plan those pounds will come off fast.:goodvibes

QOTD--
this is my normal stress reliever--* Nothing short of an intense workout And it works great, as long as I am injury free. Yesterday I bought some books and I'm hoping that helps a little this week. I am also hoping to get outside this week, since the weather will be better. And last, I'm working on changing my idea of what constitutes exercise. Not getting what I consider exercise stresses me out. I read an article yesterday that talked about injuries and recovering and I think I really need to work on my attitude. So here's an excerpt from the article by Ann Schofield:
PEP TALK
It will help to consider those first early runs as “therapy” for the injured limb, rather than training for improved performance. To be limited to a five minute run is frustrating and may seem like a waste of time unless you keep in mind the real purpose of the run.

When returning from any injury, go out with a positive attitude and keep the specific goal for that particular run in mind. You’re out there for rehabilitation, not a personal best. This run has its place just like any other run in your program. Understand the necessity for gradual return and set yourself up for success.

It’s tempting to run for longer than planned, especially if you feel good, but you can do that the next time out. Respect the limitations your injury has placed upon you and you’ll recover faster. We often have to learn the hard way; instead try learning the smart way.

Here's the thing--I need to let go of the idea that just because I can't workout hard and burn a ton of calories, it does not mean I will gain back a ton of weight and fall off the wagon. This has been part of what has really been stressing me out. I need to work on the idea that I am not going to fail this time, because that would mean quitting and I am not quitting!:goodvibes

Good question for today Lisa! I went for a walk yesterday and my knee was really bothering me, which was getting me down, again! I hope your hips are feeling better soon!

Have a great Sunday!

hi everyone! DJust popping in to say hello. It has been a busy week so I am glad to get back on track for a new week ahead. Walking more and eating less, so lets hope the scale shows a loss this week. I bought a couple new shirts this week and was able to get a size smaller! That made me feel good.

Glad your doctor knew what you needed and I think a day of rest is PERFECT when your body is trying to recover! Hope you can get out there today and start working on the 5K.

Well.... I hate to be a party pooper about the pampering today, but I'm going to need some substitutions! I hate reading the paper.... but I have a book I'm dying to finish, so I'll aim to finish that up today. My relaxing music will be whatever we sing in church (hopefully it will include a few of my favorites), and instead of a mlkshake (you know, the whole CARBS thing right now..;)) I'll make myself a lowfat almond milk latte this afternoon as a treat!

TTFN :tigger:

Lovev to hear more about the scallion pancakes. Is it an Asian recipe??

THanks once again for being our faithful weight keeper!

Okay..... I gotta admit, I know NOTHING about this Royal wedding. Is it coming up soon?? I think I might DVR it if I know when it is.

Have a great evening all!

I don't tend to be a high stress person, so I don't spend a lot of time thinking about this. The things that stress me are kind of either tiny and silly (meeting new people.... I am very shy in person), or huge and overwhelming (how are we going to pay for college for both kids!!).

I love to disappear into a good book or movie... that definitely helps when things feel overwhelming. And exercise is always good (although I have trouble convincing myself that at the start usually). But for myself, with stress, I usually need to approach the stress-producing thing HEAD ON. If it is household issues, I tackle them. If it is finance, I take on more hours at work, or tighten up the budget. If it is issues with the kids and school.... well, usually those pass pretty easily on their own.

Hello everyone. We just got back from our cruise and I just saw that I was #1 for last week. I am afraid to step on the scales tomorrow morning. We had a great trip though and I will just get back on-plan.

Congratulations on your first place finish.... and EXCELLENT job on getting right back on plan!!

I'm planning our summer vacation now, but want to keep the costs down this year, so I'm toying with different options.

ME TOO!! That is one reason why I LOVE my Mother/Daughter and Mother/Son weekends. The frustrated world-traveler in me wants to GO, GO, GO! I've always wanted one of my kids to pick the "mystery" option for their time away, but they never have. I've always thought it would be so fun to head out with a suitcase and a map and just DRIVE (preferrably in a direction that we rarely go in) and just FIND FUN! No plans, no reservations.... just adventure! But alas.... no one has ever picked that option.

:lmao:

You'd think so, but that hasn't happened yet for me! DS has had a "girlfriend" for nearly a year now, but I STILL need to force him into the shower every other day! Although he has been better about taking care of his face lately... at least that is a step in the right direction!

Nicely said!

I have a good feeling about you. I think you will see those last few pounds come off with the change in plan. :thumbsup2

Thanks.... I have a good feeling too!

Kathy.... I hope you have a fabulous week!!

good morning everyone! i'm just popping in quickly to say hello before we head out to church. party yesterday was very cute but thomas was in a mood of all moods. i guess it was the lack of nap. he would NOT go on the pony. he kept pointing to it but then when we'd try to put him on he'd scream. oh well. he enjoyed it from afar!

we are heading to the zoo today. it's supposed to be 57 today!

tomorrow is my first OB appt. i am trying not to freak out and just tell myself that whatever will be, will be. but i think we all know how that is easier said than done! kind of goes with lisa's stress QOTD - you can't control the stress but you can control how you deal with it. so, i will try to be active and keep my thoughts on other things until 3pm tomorrow instead of just sitting around and eating everything in sight (what i'd normally do).

Glad to hear you have a plan to get through today's stress! I will say a pray for you and the baby in church this morning. I think everything will be just fine! No reason to think otherwise, right?

Rose.... you sound much more positive now than you did the last few days. I'm so pleased.

**********Well friends.... once again I spent all of my DIS time on replies and have no time left to chat!

Anyhow, last night's swim banquet was very nice. I looked very modern in my new jacket... .and that was good because the coach called me up as one of a few parents that she recognized for for extra dedication to the team. And she commented on how during DH's recovery time, that I never gave up my dedication to the team, etc. It was very nice and appreciated.

Eating at the banquet was another thing.... the menu was pasta salad, caesar salad, penne with tomato sauce, penne with cream sauce, french fries, chicken fingers, rolls and cake!!!!!!!! Oh well... two plates of salad with the croutons picked out and three glasses of seltzer with lemon was my evening meal... until I got home. Once I got home I had some turkey, nuts, and a slice of cheese and a cup of decaf green tea to finish the night. I was still a little hungry, but it was late and I figured I'd live until morning.

Honestly.... it might just be a mental thing, but I swear my belly feels flatter already! I've been feeling so gross and bloated lately and I've been attributing it to various "female" issues (which I truly have), but maybe they aren't all to blame! We'll see how this goes over the next few days.

Well.... DS doesn't want to go to church and he is not getting in the shower. Guess I gotta go move him along quickly.

I"ll hop on later after church to catch up with things.....P
