Big Papi Ambushed in DR

MLB’s David Ortiz was shot in what is being called a targeted hit at home in the Dominican Republic. He is said to be in stable condition. Patrons in the bar where the shooting took place beat up the shooter! A news person who was with Papi was also shot and is also said to be stable.

I’m sure he and his family would appreciate prayers and good thoughts. He reportedly said to the doctor as he was going into surgery, “Please don't let me die. I'm a good man."

I doubt this is true because this was FAR from the professional hit you would expect from a "Dominican drug lord". Ortiz survived, there were multiple witnesses and the crowd was actually able to detain and beat the cr@p out of the suspect. This was amateur hour. Perhaps someone who thought they would inherit some money if Big Papi died.

I did read that the bullet went through his stomach and out into the person standing next to him, so that person, who was a TV host I think, also got shot. They also removed Papi's gallbladder and did some other revisions. It's probably good he transferred hospitals. He is still in the ICU in guarded condition, says Tiffany. The hit did seem like amateur hour, but supposedly it was a paid hit. Four or five have been arrested, and they're looking for one other. Glad the one suspect had his butt kicked by witnesses. Papi is a legend in his home land, and by all accounts, he really is a very nice man.

And $7800 is such an odd amount. Seems like someone could only scrape together THAT much money. It's all very odd.

I doubt the drug lord affair thingy is true. You would be a complete fool to have an affair with the drug lord's girl. Everyone knows what the outcome of that would be.

Also, agree with PP. If a drug lord wants you dead, you'll be dead. These guys were not professional hit men. Still don't understand what he could have done that someone wanted to take him out.
