We have a reservation at the Biergarten. It used to be a buffet. What can we expect this time?

We did it on Christmas and loved it! No buffet. Instead it is all-you-can-eat family style. They start with salad type dishes and pretzel rolls, then all the meats, mac n cheese, etc. Then a desert platter (warm apple pastry with cream sauce and a few other things). It was more food than we could eat without seconds. Server told us to pace ourselves, which was good advice.

Try everything, because my favorites surprised me. The cucumber salad was amazing! Meatballs were surprisingly the best meat, since I normally love sausage.

They still did the live band. Service was exceptional.

This week we have eaten at Be Our Guest, the Liberty Tree Tavern, the French restaurant, and various quick service. We all agreed that Beirgarten was our favorite.

For those who know about German beers, which should I try with my meal at Biergarten? From what I understand, Beck‘s is most well-known in the US due to good marketing, but not the highest-regarded in Germany (and may in fact be brewed in St. Louis now).

Anyone have a recommendation?

I prefer lighter beers like hefeweizen, so I very much enjoyed the weissbier there. DH and DS liked the dark beer, and DD and DSiL liked their pilsner, so I guess it depends on your taste in beer!

We love Biergarten and were there last time in Sept around Labor Day. Are they still seating one party per table or have they started back with the communal seating again? Just wondering-we are going again in 5 weeks and want to go back but not if they have restarted the communal seating. Thanks!!

Just one party per table! DH and I were there in November, and our whole family ate there on Christmas Day. No communal seating. And the tables were distanced as well, no bumping the person at the table next to you when you get out of your seat.

I’m interested in the answer also
I have a adr for it in 4 weeks

Thank you so much for your quick reply!!!

If still available, I would recommend getting a flight of beers so you can try several and see what you like the best.

The beer flight was available last week, but I didn’t look at it so have no knowledge of the details. DH says he didn’t look at it either.

One family per table, and it's served family style... You can ask for more, For just the 2 of us, it was so much food... appetizer platter, main entree platter, and dessert platter.... Go hungry...

The band still was performing which was really nice, having live music... made it seem more normal... No dancing which mostly is for the kids.

We enjoyed it very much from start to finish... and are looking forward visiting again next year..

For people who are Biergarten regulars and have eaten here since the pandemic, do you like the new family style menu better or prefer the buffet. I am not a fan of buffets so have never tried it but would give it a shot family style. I'm just wondering if there are some fan favorite buffet items that didn't make the family style menu.

Thanks for this post and all the answers. We like to try a new country each visit and Germany is up for our February trip- I was a little apprehensive over Biergarten but now very much looking forward to it!

I'm a big fan of the Biergarten so I have been pre and post Covid.

Things I enjoy now: the band is still there, love not sharing a table, like that my food is brought too me

Things I miss: sauerbraten (beef roast with yummy sauce). This was only offered at dinner so that is when we would go and even though I can recreate it at home I REALLY miss it at the Biergarten. I also miss not being able to polka dance to the band, I'm from Wisconsin so polka dancing to polka bands is a must do!

I can't speak to Biergarten family style (since I haven't been back yet but hope to soon). However, in general each has its advantages.

I'm actually a fan of buffets because on my first round, I can take just a small portion of lots of foods to see what I like, and then go back to load up my plate later. A lot less food waste, and much more flexibility. With family style, it feels like one has to finish off other stuff before asking for a third helping of a favorite. (You don't really have to, and I've never had anyone at Disney look down on me for not cleaning my plate, but it's just how I grew up.) For example, if I'm not a big fan of Weisswurst (white veal sausage, typical in Bavaria), its a bit more trouble to ask that we get less of it.

Of course, the downside of buffets is that you have to stand in line and touch tongs that everyone else has had their grubby paws all over. It was gross back before 2020, but honestly I just tried not to think about it. Or I used a strategy of only picking up tongs with my left hand, and eating bread, finger foods, etc with only my right hand.

We are big Biergarten fans and have eaten there every trip, including this week. (Over 25 times) We were not impressed this week. Family style would be fine if you could choose what salads and entrees you want but you can’t. The salads in particular were disappointing. For reference, we are a family of 4 and paid over $230 with tip. That’s crazy high for what we were served. JMO

Just ate here yesterday (New Years day) SO much food! Omg. Food was good, everyone is still sitting at individual tables, I was never crazy about the communal tables anyway. Loved that they kept the band! Felt like normal days at Disney for the first time in awhile.
