Best Shampoo for 13 year old's oily hair?

I am going to tell you what my hair stylist told me. When you wash your hair only put shampoo on the roots and let the suds slide down to the ends. Then when you condition do not put conditioner on your roots as this just makes them greasy. Roots do not need conditioner as the scalp produces oils.

What I was told was to pretend making a ponytail. Anything above the elastic closest to the scalp you shampoo. Anything hanging below you condition.

I started doing that and it made a noticeable improvement in my hair.

I also second tea tree & Suave Clarifying. Also Paul Mitchell Shampoo 3.

DD13 uses Garnier Intense Clean. It's a gray bottle with a purple circle on the label. It has salicylic acid in it. We haven't tried many others, but the oil doesn't return as fast as it did when she was using my Pantene.

I looked into tea tree online, but was afraid of how it would smell.

My 13 year old DD has very fine hair. She showers at night and her hair still looks oily the next morning. Her face is also shiny, but so far isn't breaking out. Currently she uses an aussi shampoo, but it isn't working. I looked at the store, but most shampoos were for dry hair and I couldn't find any for oily hair. Does anyone have any suggestions? She usually wears a large, fabric hair band and you can't tell that he hair is oily, but today is picture day and she doesn't want the hair band.

Just get a good stripper shampoo without all the stuff in em. They're usually the cheap brands such as Suave. Make sure she rubs it in near the roots. And don't use a conditioner unless she has long hair. And use it only on the ends. If her hair dries out, work in a different shampoo from time to time.

When I was younger I used Suave, no idea what kind, Mom bought it for me. I still use it occasionally but now I generally use Herbal Essence shampoo. I did just buy myself some Tresemme to use when my bottle of HE is gone, I'm curious how well it will work for me. :)

for the picture day, buy tresemme dry shampoo. you just rub it in (focus on roots), brush, and no oil. I was surprised at how well it worked. shower at night, dry shampoo in the morning.:thumbsup2

DH has a really oily scalp and he uses the Suave daily clarifying and it works real nice for him! I think I used to same at one point as well.

we found finesse for normal hair has helped. a clarifying shampoo helped too but she didn't like it for some reason.

I'm in my mid 40's and still have very oily hair/skin. The one plus, no wrinkles!
My hair chick told me several years ago to stay away from the clarifying shampoos as they do tend to strip and then the skin goes into overtime to reproduce oil.

My DD also has oily hair.

I switched us to Biolage Normalizing shampoo years ago and it works wonders. I buy it by the gallon at the beauty supply. DD uses a light conditioner on the ends of her hair and I use a bit of Pearatin (moroccan oil) since I use hot styling tools.

Using the blow dryer makes a huge difference. I cannot convince DD of this and she will not shower in the mornings. I wash my hair every morning and dry it, she does hers every night and then sleeps on it wet.

Sounds like my dd and me.....I can't imagine sleeping on wet hair, but she does it all the time. And then she complains that her hair looks crappy in the morning!!! Well, what does she expect??

I got the salon brand at great cuts, they told me to use a clarifying shampoo. It seems to work well.
