I am going to tell you what my hair stylist told me. When you wash your hair only put shampoo on the roots and let the suds slide down to the ends. Then when you condition do not put conditioner on your roots as this just makes them greasy. Roots do not need conditioner as the scalp produces oils.
What I was told was to pretend making a ponytail. Anything above the elastic closest to the scalp you shampoo. Anything hanging below you condition.
I started doing that and it made a noticeable improvement in my hair.
