Best Premium Site for privacy?

Good morning, everyone! Our family is staying at FW for the second time, arriving on October 3rd. We've rented a RV again - in 2013, we rented a 21' TT. This year, we've got a 38' 5th wheel from Florida Camper Rental. My DW had to be talked into both of these, but the kids are excited. Not quite as excited as I am... :tigger:

I'd like any feedback on best premium sites for privacy. I think our family would like a well-screened site with less road noise. We're renting a golf cart and will have a vehicle, so travel around the Fort and to the parks will be fine. Thanks for any input!

benjy,

In all honesty I have tried to dissuade folks from asking about specific sites. I noted on the October M&G thread that you are coming in on a Saturday in October and the Fort will be slap full that weekend (as in 95% effectively full) for a nice weather fall weekend camping time. Given that the Fort will be so full, the chances of you getting your 1st, 2nd, or 3rd site chance are slim unless you show up at 7am and are prepared to wait until after lunch if someone on your desired site is checking out.

I'm on record as saying there are no bad sites at the Fort, only good and "gooder" ones. Shannon (Shan-man) wanted to disagree with me and cited one, possibly two, bad sites but given there are 800 or so in total, the chances are 3-nines that you'll okay (I work with statistics for a living where we want "5-nines" but hey, 3-nines are good Vegas odds).

However, not to be a Negative Nelly, there are a few things you can do to accomplish what you wish. I would suggest when you arrive that you ask for a Premium site in loop 800 "on the backside" which faces the woods far away from main road where the busses run and ask for it to be "on the outside" of the loop. 800 is a BIG loop with the back half of the loop facing the woods (Wilderness Lodge is over there about 3/4 of a mile) and if you are on the outside of the circle, the site gets wider the deeper back you go into it.

Whatever happens, I hope you are happy with the site you get. And like Letsb and some of our other posters have done, if you're not happy when you drive down to it, look around for one you like then call/drive back to the lobby/office and ask for it. Chances are you will get it. Given what we are paying for a patch of ground these days, it's the least they can do!

Bama Ed

PS - make sure you ask for 800 loop when doing the early online check-in. Also, the fact that the vendor has to show up to deliver your trailer means they may get there first and put it on whatever site they are told to before you arrive.

Thanks, Bama Ed. I've seen your take on this topic elsewhere, and it's good advice as always. We're not experienced campers, but believe the comments made by folks here about the quality of the entire Fort.

I'd like to offer some advice of my own - you know, to kind of pay back for your kindness and wisdom. Perhaps I could help you and your Tide understand how better to stop the triple option? (Georgia Southern Eagle, baby. GATA!)

Sorry - thought I'd try to rumble with you and TiggerDad a bit...

We like people like that.

I will have to agree with the mindset that there really aren't bad sites at the Fort, but there are certainly those that are better in different aspects. Some have more space for decorations, some are close to bustops, some to comfort stations, those with shade, those with sun, those with water, those with sand. Some do have thicker cover between sites, but don't get your heart set on a particular site, or even a loop. They will try to meet your request as best they can.

There is a thread under the work in progress thread here that shows pics of people's campsites. I like to reference people to it so they can look and see what some of them actually look like.

Oh, and Roll Tide!

1) PRIVACY at The Fort is an oxymoron.
2) It strictly depends upon who (or what) your neighbors are.
3) You are going at a VERY busy time.
4) Expect lots of rowdy neighbors as people build up to Halloween.
5) Hope for the best.
6) And, yes, people start that early.

a) I've been called worse.
b) I'm from South Georgia - we're used to rowdy neighbors.
c) Yep - kids' Fall Break. No choice...
d) One of the things we're looking forward to - decorations ride around.
e) We'll be happy people - in the Fort and WDW!
f) With luck, maybe we'll turn into those people one day.
