Hey all, anyone seen this yet that can give some tips on where to stand, where not to stand, and how early I should get there to get a good spot? I have read that some of the views can be obstructed if you are in the wrong place.

you want to be able to see the entire great movie ride + the buiilding just to the right and left of it. Watch some videos online to get a feel for where the projections are so you can line yourself up.

I've seen it vary.. some days it seems like you can walk in last second other days you need to scope it out. They have been running fantasmic first which has made the park semi-empty to claim your spot and they start about 10 minutes after fantasmic ends.

Is it possible to get to the Galactic Spectacular after watching Fantasmic, or is it better planned for different days?

@yulilin3 over on the Star Wars master thread reports that standing between the new towers and the stage that sits in front of the Great Movie Ride is your best bet.

We did the Dessert Party last week and was at the very front of the reserved area.

For those that are not familiar with the layout, there is the stage, a viewing area, a walkway they tape off running parallel to the stage, and then the rest of the viewing area. The Dessert Party area is just beyond the walkway.

Something I noticed about the crowds ... people reserved their spots early by sitting. When the show started, they stood up. The result was that the entire front section between the walkway and the stage collapsed forward leaving a pretty sizable gap at the back.

It would seem to me that a person could wait until right when the show started to use that walkway and find a spot at the back of the forward viewing area.

Obviously it is a risk because if the crowd does not move forward, you'll be out of luck to find a good viewing spot.

There are two large "columns" that are in the grassy/tree area in the center stage area. In our experience, you needed to stand at least within these columns or in front of, because farther back, you couldn't see the full projection of the show. One of the columns is blue and the other is yellow-ish/pink-ish. One night last week they cancelled Fantastmic and this show was packed wall-to-wall and we found a spot at 8:45. We went back a couple of nights later when Fantasmic was showing and the crowds didn't start filling in until 9:15 or so. It's a great show!
