The players me, DW, DD 11,DS 7 and BIL,SIL and there son 14. We are all DVC members and have been to WDW many times. We have gone over Christmas the past few years so I know it will be crowded. None of us have been to WDW on NYE. I would like suggestions on the best park for everyone. What special thing should we plan on? All the kids will stay up way past midnight.

Planning ahead is keeping me sane as it snows in NY AGAIN !!!

I've never been to WDW over NYE. I'm no help. Just thought I would bump this back to page one for you.

We've been in WDW for NYE several times, but only attempted the parks once. The reason for this is because the crowds are very, very, very large. We were at MK a few years ago, and it was so crowded that they closed the park. I remember we got stuck in a human traffic jam near the castle and could not move. We were all grown people, and we were scared and feeling claustrophobic- I can only imagine how children were feeling. We had friends who decided to go to MGM for NYE, and they said it was crowded but pretty manageable. My best advice would be to stay away from MK on NYE- one of the other parks might be a better bet.

Well, we were there this past year, and while we didn't spend midnight in a park (we went to California Grill, which was a great event), we did go to MGM that morning for EE. We wanted to be there at EE opening to get all the big rides out of the way before the crowds, but due to some sort of bus problem at AKL, we actually got there around regular park opening (which was 8am). It wasn't a huge problem though as ToT and RnRC didn't really have any waits. I guess all the EE people did them between 7 and 8 so when we got there around 7:50 they were practically empty. We got RnRC fastpasses, rode ToT, then rode RnRC without the fastpasses, then went to ST, and back to RnRC for the fastpass time. CMs were handing out fastpasses to various attractions on the main street when you enter, between all the shops, and also in our character breakfast at H&V. It was crowded, but really not so bad like I had thought, even at midday. I think most of the huge crowds go to MK on NYE, since we saw their parking lot was full when we left MGM (around 3pm). They had a stage set up in front of the Sorcerer's Hat where they had entertainment and they were passing out hats and horns to guests as we left. Sorry I don't know what it was like at midnight, but hope that helps a little! Have a great trip!

I have only ever been at the Studios for NYE. It was great to see a fabulous fireworks display there! The fireworks display at MK is amazing too, with perimeter fireworks and the whole shebang.

I think I would like to be at Epcot, though since it's my favorite park.

But beware, the parks are super crowded, and if you don't want to stay at the park all day long, your chances of getting back in are slim. They do fill up during the day. I was a CM the year I was there, and I had people asking me to call MK or Epcot all day seeing if they had opened the gates again. The answer was always no.

It's an amazing celebration, wherever you are. If you want to brave the crowds, pick your favorite park and have a ball!!! :D

I would suggest MGM only because the fireworks are only shown twice a year there - NYE and July 4.

DH and I have settled on EPCOT every NYE. It is an adult park there so not so many little ones under footl. While we do not drink it is important to not that there is drinking at EPCOT. So that may be a turn off for your family. If not here is one plus.

We can go to several "countries" to spend NYE. So there is different music, cultures, entertainment etc. Each country will typically have live footage of what is actually going on at their most popular spot. Sorta like we televise the ball drop and Times Square in NY.

When we tire of one we move to the next and it isn't so far away. We always spend midnight at Rose and Crown pub.

Thanks for all the replies. My thinking was to get to the parks about 1 or 2 PM and stay till closing. If we make at PS for dinner will they let us into the parks?
Has anyone been in the MK 12/31 latter in the day 8/9 PM. Do the crowds thin out at all? Thanks

I would recommend being at the parks before 1 or 2pm. This past year when we were there, they told us to pick a park and be there by 10am with plans to stay there all day.
