Ok, I know if I were in shape I wouldn't have to ask this. We're passholders, been several times during the past 5 years. I've moved to a desk job and don't get near enough exercise. I've noticed the last couple of times being at WDW, my legs are absolutely killing me by the third day. While I realize all responses are opinions, what's the best medication for sore muscles? Not headaches, allergies, etc., just aching muscles. Thanks in advance for any responses!

I had the same trouble on my last trip - for me, it ended up being shin splints (in both legs)! Very, very painful. I ended up renting an ECV for the last several days of our trip - otherwise, I swear I would have had to go home! That ECV was a real lifesaver. I was taking Celebrex, but it didn't really help (I can't take OTC pain relievers due to another medical issue).

Next trip, I plan to do much more of a walking schedule prior to leaving. If you build up gradually, I think you're less likely go have problems.

I'm curious if others have had this problem, too. What do you do to treat and/or avoid shin splints?

Aleve works very well for me regarding physical pains (although it doesn't do a thing for me with headaches). I actually have a small supply of Aleve in my Owner's Locker for when my knee acts up when I'm at Disneyworld.

I wore a pair of shoes that didn't have enough arch support for me (keens)for two days and my legs were sooo sore. We were staying at WL and I found that getting in the hot tub really helped a lot-and switching to wearing my sneakers too.

We try to do a couple things when we go to help. Fitting clothes is one, helps with your thighs rubbing together and become raw from the friction of walking. Socks and a really good pair of sneakers or you could go with the crocks this helps with the raw feet and blisters. For aching pains for the after park we go with Motrin, but we like to end the evening with a glass of wine and a jump in a spa.

Have you ever tried homeopathic Arnica? Either in the pellet form (most easily and expensively found at a health food store, but they are in other stores as well sometimes), or in lotion or gel form (Boiron makes a nice gel, though be careful if the skin you're putting it on has just been shaved).

I personally LOVE this Arnica lotion. I sent some to my stepdad after his second hip replacement, as he had a really hard time healing from the first hip, and he said it really helped with the sore muscles around the incision(s?).

We found that brand at a farmer's market (the company is semi-local to us). We were in the middle of moving to a new place, and DH was doing most of the heavy-lifting and every muscle was tired and sore. He was limping everywhere, and we decided to take a break by walking the couple blocks to the market. We stopped at the booth and decided to try it. I put half-a-pea sized drop in my palm and put it on DH's calf (he has sumo wrestler legs so it was significant that such a small amount covered he calf), and by the time we walked away from the booth, his leg felt better. Went right back, bought a bottle, and put it on his other calf and his lower back. He was a new man inside of a minute.

I can't recommend it MORE, it's so wonderful!

But the homeopathic pellets of arnica are wonderful, too; it's our first, and usually only, line of pain relief. :)

Hi
I really feel bad for you. I've had shin splints in the past and I could barely walk. I should've rented an ECV, but didn't. It's so painful, but I only had Advil, so I took that. I would get them when I wore my sneakers. For the last 2 years, I wore my Croc Scutes and my legs and feet felt the best ever. My legs didn't hurt at all, and I didn't have any blisters. These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I couldn't believe I didn't have any leg pain.

I love Advil for pain. I used to work for a group of cardiologist and they always recommended Advil to all their patients. It helps also if theres any inflamation.

In addition to the OTC pain relievers, we also take a big tube of Peppermint Lotion. I read that tip on the DIS several years ago & it really does help our leg soreness. Just rub it in good after a nice hot shower.

The body glide that alot of people here on the Dis recommend for preventing blisters and chafing also makes a product for sore muscles that is great. It looks just like the regular antichafing body glide, except the container is gray with red label instead of gray with green label. It is used by runners to warm up the muscles. I'm not at home right now, so can't check, but I believe it's called Body Glide Heat FX. It's great for sore muscles. Advil (Motrin) is also good.

I had this problem during our last trip. In addition to using Advil, I also did a lot of stretches and took a few hot baths. It really helped my sore muscles.

I take Aleve like it's candy after day 3!!!!...works like a charm on the sore legs and the inevitable headaches I get when we are at Disney (I think it's from going from air conditioning to 90 degree heat so quickly) I also want to second the Burts Bees Peppermint Foot Lotion...it's heavenly. I put it on every night when we get home from the parks with a thick pair of cotton socks. My feet feel great the next day. I also only wear sneakers or crocs at Disney...I leave my "cute" sandals at home.

2 Tylenol Arthritis pills in the morning keeps me from having achy legs/knees.

I had trouble with my hips hurting. I took Advil Liquil Gels each morning and was good all day on one dose. Helped with the sore muscles!

I walked 60 miles in the Breast Cancer 3-Day last October and discovered Biofreeze - a muscle rub that works wonders for overworked, tired muscles! This stuff is truly amazing!!! It doesn't have a strong, offensive smell like most other muscle rubs, and works WAY better! I took plenty of ibuprofen over those 3 days, but I swear that the Biofreeze was the most helpful in relieving my sore legs.

Another vote for Tylenol Arthritis!:)
