Best. Noms. Ever. A SOLO DxDP Review with Pictures COMPLETE

I really want to visit the EOS on my next trip.
I have heard so many good things about it
Sounds like you have to stand in line whatever time of day it is though :sad2:

We were going to try EOS on our next trip, but lately I've been paying attention to hte talk of the long lines and I think it's scaring me away. We were going to go at lunchtime on a Saturday in April, I think it's unlikely we will stick with that plan. It's too bad because the sandwiches do look so good.

Honestly, EOS is worth the lines. You just need to be prepared for what you are going to deal with. I think if one person goes and orders and the rest stay outside and waits, it's probably the best setup. I didn't have that luxury.

Well, I promised I would not go to Disney World without trying School bread. Although I won't do an overall here because the school bread and the champagne I got in Epcot were not really on the meal plan (oop) and they really weren't a meal, either, I felt remiss if I did not report on them.

Especially since the school bread is a common treat.

First, at $1.99, school bread is not something I would recommend using a snack credit for.

Second, be prepared for yet again a really, really long line here.

I got an espresso:

I am an espresso drinker, but I found this one to taste more like dirty water than espresso. Not strong at all, and reallt not what I was looking for.

Thankfully, I am thinking I had something else to drink (like a soda).

The school bread:

The filling was great, but the outside was really, really hard, and it did not taste very fresh.

Hint to all--I prefered the Boulangerie Patisserie and will go there next time.

I was shopping around the world heading towards the World Showcase Gateway to take the boat over to the Boardwalk, when I happened upon the wine kiosk in France. My intentions were to stop and get a Grey Goose slush, but something else caught my eye: a Pomegranite Kir champagne.

I absolutely enjoyed it!

Coming up. . .Flying Fish

As I got over to the Boardwalk, I realized I was really early. And really tired. Part of me would have liked to just go back to the room, but I walked around the Boardwalk for a while, finally stopping early at the Flying Fish to rest for a moment.

I wasn't worried about being seated. I wanted to rest.

Unlike the staff at Yacthsman, however, they did not want me to wait, and so they asked me if I would mind sitting at the chef's bar.

Uhm, no! Of course, I expected Gordon Ramsay to be back there dropping some choice words.

Instead, I saw this from my table:

The decor of the restaurant:

Watching this was an enjoyable experience that I will never forget!

For my appetizer, I had

Our Signature Flying Fish Cafe "Crispy Maine Coast Jonah Crab Cake" - savory vegetable slaw, roasted red pepper coulis, ancho chili remoulade $16.00

IMG_0426.jpg

Okay, seriously, don't tell them at Narcoossee's, but this was the best crab cake ever! The roasted red pepper and remoulade gave it a slight kick that being from the South, I found delightful! I've always said that we should use more of the spices in our cabinets. This was simply heavenly!

For my entre--Oak-grilled Maine Diver Scallops -- pumpkin, sage, mascarpone and pecorino-laced risotto di carnarolli, proscuitto di parma cracklins $34.00

IMG_0429.jpg

I am hard to please when it comes to scallops, living near Myrtle Beach and eating my fair shre of them. These were cooked perfectly, and the risotto was the best I have ever had.

By the time dessert came around, I wanted something really light. I had had that big sandwich and the school bread that day. I decided on the Trio of House-made Sorbets - lychee, raspberry and mango-orange with fresh berries and vanilla cookies $7.00. I had all along planned on the apple tart, but when it came to the end of the meal, I wanted something that did not weight like a ton of bricks.

IMG_0430.jpg

Just what I wanted! It was light, refreshing, and would be something I'd really want during the summer months!

My servier there was really good. He did have a large party behind me and they took a great deal of his time. Had I been at a table, I would have probably been a little restless, but as it was, I was at the chef's table being thoroughly entertained.

But next time I'm there, I'm getting the New York Strip.

Overall:
Atmosphere: 5 out of 5
Service: 4 out of 5
Wait Time: 5 out of 5
Food Quality: 5 out of 5
Overall: 4.75 out of 5

Would I return here? Certainly! It's not currently on the ADR list for June, but I am always subject to change my mind, lol! I actually am contemplating adding it in for June.

Flying Fish looks amazing. Unfortunately my hubby HATES seafood. I guess I need to book a solo trip. LOL

Oh boy, I have Flying Fish booked for an upcoming solo trip....and I think I want to order exactly what you got!!!! That Crab Cake is one of the prettiest dishes I've ever seen!

The food at the Flying Fish looks awesome and how cool to sit at the chefs counter :thumbsup2

Really the crab cakes at Flying Fish is much better than Narcoosse's...I might have to take my husband there for a good crab cakes. Thanks for the wonderful updates.

Last Oct. I ordered the scallops at FF. I was so looking forward to trying them because I love scallops, but I must say I was disappointed. Maybe they were having a bad day or something, but my scallops were barely warm, very few grill marks and mushy ( like gelatin) through and through. lso, the risotto was luke warm at best.I know I should have sent them back, but I had filled up on my appie and just didn't want the hassle.

LOVE the Flying Fish review!!! Never been there but everything you had, I would love. I can't even remember the last time I had a crab cake.

.

Great review :) I have the Flying Fish booked for my 3rd night and after seeing the chef's bar I'm so tempted to request a seat there.

Just don't try to eat the flowers. ;)

Their NY strip steak is the best steak I've had on Disney property.:thumbsup2

I wish I had gotten that. But at the same time was glad I got what I did!

Thanks for your FF review. It remains one of our top two!:goodvibes

 FF and Narcoossee's are my fave two.

They are. Having had them at Narcoossee's the night before, I wondered if I would be up for cakes again. They were simply deliciouso!

Oh--I hate that. Scallops are so wonderful when they are cooked properly--so terrible when they are not. It's interesting how two different people could have different experiences.

I used to hate them, but for some reason, I love them and look for them everywhere when we have seafood around here.

You really should! It was an experience that I will never forget!

Another Great Report :thumbsup2 can't wait for the next one!

Thanks, Hallie!

So, as I got up bright and squirrely this morning, I did something that I can't even believe now I did. I went online and canceled my ADRs for the day. I had a Lunch ADR at CP and dinner at LTT, and just decided I wanted a leisurely day.

After that abrupt decision that I think only people on a solo vacation could do with no regrets, I went down to Sassagoula floatworks with snack credits to spare and got. . .you guessed it. . .beignets.

I was much earlier than the morning prior, so I was 2nd in line for the beignets and did not have to wait long. Lesson learned? The early birds get the beignets.

I then decided on rope drop at MK and lunch at Pecos Bills. I had never been there before, but found myself at Splash Mountain just before lunch time and decided to give it a try.

The great thing about Pecos Bills is the self-serve ordering kiosks. I ordered a hamburger, fries, and a soda with carrot cake for dessert.

I was so hungry, this really hit the spot. I liked the atmosphere, was served very quickly, and did not have to fight huge crowds. This was before normal lunchtime--about 11:30. By 12:00 it was a madhouse and I was glad to be leaving.

I also did not like the fact that there were birds everywhere!

My favorite CS in MK continues to be Cosmic Rays, but I would come back here if I was close by.

To add in quickly, just before the parade at 3pm, I decided to go to the Main Street Bakery and get an ice cream sandwich.

I'm surprised this is consdered a snack credit, as it really takes 2 to eat it. I ate 3/4 of it, but it was heavenly. I can't wait to get one in the heat of June--even if I have to pay oop for it there.

Express ordering?!....self-serve kiosk?!! WHAT!?! How cool is that! Although I tend to be polarized towards Casey's while in the MK, I think this is someplace I might need to try.:)
