Where we live, the crabbing is really good in the late summer/early fall and I'll often make crab soup...I'll make cream of crab or MD crab which is tomato based. A popular option around here is called 'Camo' or 'Half & Half' soup which is a combination of the two.
I usually make a batch of turtle soup, but more often around the holidays.
Not exactly the same, but my husband is known to put smoked white fish over his potato or leek soup.
