Best Credit Card for reward miles

I am looking for the best reward program for credit card users for flights. Any suggestions?

Probably AmEx. But I don't use one. Rather I carry the cards for the two carriers I fly 98% of the time, Continental issued by Chase, and USAirways issued by Bank of America.

I like the flexibility of sometimes making large emergency purchases and having a couple months to pay them off if needed.

We use American Express because you can transfer your miles to any airline and you also have the option of using the points on their own rewards program.

My sister transferred point from Amex to her continental one pass account and got 2 free airline tickets to hawaii and then also kept some points in Amex and used them for 4 free nights in Hawaii. So all she is paying out of pocket is the rest of the hotel nights and a car rental.

AMEX and Diners allow you to transfer your points to most airlines otherwise just get the cc for the airline you plan to use most. SW has lower requirements for free tickets, the tickets are not capacity controlled but they mainly fly shorter routes.

We have a Hilton Honors AmEx, accrues HHonors points with all purchases ... even more points when we charge at Hilton properties.

The AmEx we have is a revolving credit line, doesn't have to be paid in full.

We also use Amex for EVERYTHING (the one that has to be paid off each month, otherwise we'd be in trouble. But as stated above, we like the ability to move the rewards into whatever partner we prefer, be it airlines or car rental or whatever. Also, AMEX had many different types of cards, so research, some are free some are not. Do your homework and compare fees.

We have the BLUE American Express card. It has a redemption for Buffet Breakfast at DisneyWorld for 3500 points.

My hubby says I am the Queen of the Rewards cards. I usually go for cash or mechandise rather than rewards. One of my favorite is the MyPoints Mastercard, which allows you to rack up points that can be redeemed for airline rewards (they are owned by United) or gift certificates for places like Red Lobster and K-Mart. They used to have some Disney-related rewards too but I haven't checked into those lately. We had enough points for a free Carnival cruise, but took a pass as we stick with Disney Cruise Line...I ordered various gift certificates instead. We also use Amex a lot, as we have a version that gives cash back, and Chase, which has a points program similar to MyPoints. Remember tha bad old days when you had to PAY to have a charge card?!

We like the Hilton Honors program -- get points for staying at Hilton properties (includes Hampton Inn, Conrad, Doubletree, etc.), using the Hilton AmEx (get points for any $$ charged, more points for $$ charged at Hilton properties), we also get points for flying with HHonors air partners (in addition to the miles we get from the airlines with their programs). With some of the airlines (i.e. AA, United) we can then transfer our miles from those programs and convert them to HHonors points.

We accumulated enough points that last summer I cashed in enough to cover this year's airfare to Orlando in April ... got 3 free flights on Midwest Express Airlines. If we wanted we have enough points to get 2 free weeks rental car too ... but I'm building up more points for 2004 airfare to Washington, DC.

My DH has a lot of Membership Rewards points from his corporate American Express card, but the points can't be transferred to American Airlines- which is our preferred airline. We have a Starwood Preferred Guest AMEX (Optima) card - no annual fee the first year and $30/year afterwards. The points can be transferred to a number of airline FF programs - including American. When you transfer 20,000 points to an airline program, you get 5,000 bonus miles - which equals a free domestic plane ticket on most airlines.
