Behind the Seeds Tour

We did and it was good. DH loved it and would do it again. We don't have kids, but if your 9 year old seems interested I think she/he will enjoy it.

It was fun, affordable, and I think it would be completely appropriate for a 9 year old. Basically, they take you backstage and you get to walk through the greenhouses while a guide shares some interesting facts and trivia. Most of the time you're following the same path the boats take, just off to the side. Ask about discounts, when you sign up!

Another vote for yes! Especially since the cost isn't outrageous like some of their other tours.

Myself, DBF, and parents did it and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Like PP said, a lot of the time you're standing in the same places the boats go through, but it's fun to see the looks on the boat as people wonder what's going on. Lots of interesting facts, and it's great to be able to see some of the plants up close.

My husband and I have this booked for Monday (assuming we can escape snowy Boston this Sunday to get to WDW...) Can't wait! BTW, I didn't know before this tour, but Disney Visa cardholders get 15% off tours. In general the Disney Visa doesn't seem worth it to me, but we do want to do more tours at some point, so I'll definitely apply for one before the next trip!

We did this tour in January. Our group was all adults, but there was nothing that was inappropriate for children.

If this is something your 9 year old is interested in, they showed us a fish tank that was converted to a hydroponic gro-tank and gave us instructions on how to make our own at home.

We did this when ours were 6 and 9 and they both enjoyed it. If your 9 yr old is at all extroverted, they can engage the CM with questions. We got to release ladybugs and feed the fish and try a fresh cucumber. It was fun. Military and I believe AAA both offer discounts.

AAA is not a discount for AAA card holders, it's only available with the AAA Diamond Vacation card, which you get by booking a vacation package through AAA.

We enjoyed this tour Also, got discount with Disney Visa

The only discounts I know of are Annual Pass holders, Disney Vacation Club and Disney Visa Card which is usually the best discount. There may be a FL resident but I am not sure. Never heard of a Military discount on tours.

This is the only tour my wife and I have done, and it was really fun. We learned a lot of cool things I probbaly never would have bothered to find out (like how a pineapple grows), and they do a good joe of really explaining the hydroponic process to you. The fish tank was also fun and interactive. The kids on our tour really enjoyed it! And it's a great way to do something new at Disney without breaking the bank (at least not as much as you already have to even BE at WDW...)

How far in advance should one sign up for the tour? Specifically, is there usually availability day-of in late May?

We loved the tour. I went once with my DH in January; I liked it more than he did (but I love Living with the Land). I went again with my DS who was maybe 12 at the time; he really enjoyed it and I thought it was great even doing it a second time.

Here is my one negative - when my DS and I went it was late August. The tour was very hot! The ride might have ac but the greenhouses themselves were pretty toasty.

WRONG.....
AAA is a discount. we used it 2 times for this tour & did not have a package. Just showed our AAA card.

I think this one of the best values on property- awesome tour (if you like this sort of thing), for a very reasonable price. The tour lasts about an hour. The experience will obviously vary based on the knowledge & enthusiasm of the guide, as well as the makeup of your group- but I've done it multiple times and have never been disappointed.

We got day of, right after we got of living with the land, we had to wait 30 mins but was definitely worth it

Granted this was october, not may

Our DS is 12 and we went on the tour for the 3rd time today. It lasts a little over an hour. We learn something new each time. We used our Disney Visa for a 15% discount.

DD was 15 when we went and loved it, side note she is very interested in science. I thought it was interesting and worth the money. We went the week before Easter 2014 and I booked it months in advance. Also Disney Visa discount.
