Well...I think the word martyr is a little strong. I don't recall my kids ever enduring great suffering or sacrifice by being held on our hips and not having the perfect view of Mickey. What you call martyr, I call common courtesy. I just try to find a balance where my kids are reasonably content and the people behind me aren't completely obscured.
As for the other bolded parts above...
I find great irony in standing there watching Wishes (which has such a positive message) while holding strong to those tenets.
I wonder if there will ever be a fireworks show at Disney called "I'm not willing to sacrifice my happiness for others." Or maybe a magical castle show called "It's not my job to make you happy". Think of how touching they could be...
