Before you rent from Gold Mobility

Good to see that he is going to do right by you in the end. Hopefully you enjoy the rest of your trip with much less stress than you have had so far. Christmas time at Disney is magical!
I wouldn’t trust the owner as far as I could throw him. If they do a swap they give the scooter to HIS mechanic. If he says it’s fine they charge me $35. We already know he is a liar, I’m not going to give them any more of my money… why would I trust his mechanic. I will deal with the one I have. And tell him good riddance when I turn it in. I’m sure they won’t test the battery… they’ll just dump it on another customer.

I am really shocked at the experience you are having. I have only used Golds Mobility for scooter rentals, and never had that sort of treatment.

I want to add that I went to the web site, and see nothing about a $35 fee. The site does say that how long the battery lasts depends on terrain and the weight the scooter is carrying--the person and any extra stuff that may be on it. Having said that I always carry the power cord with me, but have only ever had to use it once--when the scooter made the drive from the Swan to the Studios due to waiting for 3 boats and still not having room for it.

Just an FYI - I had the same thing happen to me on my own ECV - it would show fully charged each morning but then drop bars when I rode it just a short distance - turned out it was a loose wire connection to the battery.

That’s interesting. Could be the issue here. I don’t trust that if their mechanic found it they would tell me though. They’ll say the scooter was fine and charge me a $35 swap out fee. I think the new Gold is mo money, mo money!

I think $35 is not much to risk when compared to the cost of making your vacation much easier. When compared to your park ticket and you are wasting how much time to keep your ecv charged each day?

I’ve rented from them 30+ days each year for YEARS…. Given them thousands of dollars. I’ve been renting scooters at Disney for decades now. I weigh 165 lbs and get the Victory for the extended battery… ironic, right? I know how to conserve a battery and I know when there is a problem.

You don’t believe something will happen to you until it does. If you rent from Gold in the future be aware there is a very dark underside to this beast and you may be posting here next time. I learned the hard way about Gold. Took time but I learned.

This is a trip I should never have come on. The whole Gold scooter fiasco is really just the end.

My sweet DD died unexpectedly in October. She had been sick and on disability for many years but no one expected it so suddenly. She was my world, making sure she was ok. This trip has been on the books for months and people kept saying I should go. But there are so many memories. I’m old and can’t do this anymore. I think that’s what Gold is showing me.
I'm very sorry for your loss.

Left resort after 9 and was down to 2 bars by noon…
Down to 2 bars, already in the red? Down 2 bars but still in the green?

Regardless customer service suggests swapping out the scooter or at least the battery.

Edited to add I note Gold is now charging a $45 convenience fee if you miss your delivery and they reschedule. Flights, luggage and traffic can cause delays. Do we waste an hour or more booking a later time? Or just rent fromna different company.

Gold now gives you 1 rain poncho instead of 4. It's not the end of the world....

I am fortunate the money isn’t the problem. The owner is a rude, arrogant bully. I will no longer use my money to support such disreputable, soulless behavior. I will give Disney the $50+ dollars to rent a park scooter as a last resort. But that is who I am.

Just to be clear, this scooter loses a bar every hour. The owner says that is normal… he insists they only say 6 hours of use for the victory then you have to charge. Being in the yellow and red is fine… your scooter will continue to operate as usual. And he insists everyone knows that so he doesn’t feel like he has to reiterate it….

And if you actually go to his first message which I posted at the beginning of this thread he reiterated what he said on the phone: he would NOT swap out the scooter… that what I described as a “problem” (he put it in quotes to be extra demeaning) was normal operation of the scooter and I’m just too ignorant to know.

Yeah, he’s giving you B.S. Driving when the battery is in yellow - let alone red - is a big big no no as it will ruin the battery - and cause it to behave just like it seems to be behaving now - says it’s charged but won’t hold the charge.

@Debbie Jean I am sorry that you had such a bad experience after being a loyal customer for years. Since having two full TKRs in less than three years, I have taken to renting an ECV for our recent trips (left leg is weak). I had always rented from Scooterbug due to convenience, but they were sold out during our recent trip so I went with Gold Mobility based on the feedback in this forum. I went with the 3-wheeled Pride Victory model and had no issues with battery life. I did appreciate the no beeping when backing up and the headlight mounted higher than Scooterbug's, but your experience gives me pause for the future.

I had the same problem in September when I needed a scooter for my fractured ankle. We were at the Poly. I drove it to GF and lots 3 bars. I plugged it in quickly. Gained back all bars after 39 minutes . Then after went to CTR. Lost 4 bars. Went and did monorail back to Poly and plugged it back in. I was thinking it probably was not fully

Now the Gold owner texts me saying he will swap out the scooter and that he never said he wouldn’t. That’s is a lie. I posted his initial emails where he says specifically that the scooter is performing as he expects and he will not swap… I posted that message above and sent it back to him.
I am wondering if they are using AI for initial responses, almost feels like it is.

Next day went to MK. Had same issues. Lost 3 to 4 bars right away. I went back to Poly and called Golds to ask if that was normal . She said no and scheduled a next day swap. Why was my experience different then the OP’s!
