Before you rent from Gold Mobility

You know I have considered buying many times. But I travel alone and can’t figure out how I could handle a scooter and my luggage. Less than ideal I know.
I only travel with 1 roller bag and my tote bag. I put the tote under my feet on my ECV or in the basket and I can roll my roller bag with 1 hand going slowly until I get to the check in area at the airline. Once I’ve checked my bag, it’s easy to finish going thru security.
Once I arrive at WDW, I either roll the bag myself or pay for a bellman to bring it to my villa.
I’m in my 70s, as well, and needed the ECV to navigate the airport in addition to WDW.
My ECV is smaller than what you were renting though. I have a Go-Go Sport 3-wheel which I absolutely love.

You can check your scooter, and get wheelchair assistance to your plane.

You can gate check your scooter. You generally drop it off at the end of the jet way and retrieve just after you exit the plane. An aisle wheelchair is available if you can't walk to your seat.

Foldable scooters don't do well. Personal experience.

Getting to and from your home airport with your scooter is an issue which can be solved.

Scooter isn’t the issue… it’s handling the luggage alone before drop off and after picking it up. If I could manage that I have no issues gate checking the device and going through security.

Like you, I travel solo and also like you, I'm 73. The difference is, I have bought a scooter, but I don't bring it with me to WDW. Why? If my owned scooter conks out in the back of the park, I'm hoping for the kindness of strangers that they MAY help. With a rental, I call the company-and they replace it. Although I've always rented from Gold Mobility and trusted they'd help me, your experience has really made me doubt their current "help".
So I ask, who else does anyone recommend?

IMG_3780.jpegSo this morning with a five bar fully charged scooter I head for the bus but by the time I get to the AKL lobby I’m at 3 bars. I send them an actual pic. Head for Epcot and just plan to park it somewhere close to charge… I at least know plugs at Epcot but it’s going to be a long day including CP do I make sure my touring plan
includes the ability to charge. Not ideal but what is the alternative. I’ve been told… by the owner … that the battery is fine, my expectations are the only problem and they will not do a swap. I get the message above

I feel like this is pure vindictiveness and bullying… never in a million years anticipated how low this company has sunk.

I’ve read where they charge people a $35 fee is after “they” test the battery they say it’s fine. I’m not giving them any more of my money. I’ve rented more than 30 days at Disney for many years now. I spent literally thousands of dollars on Gold scooters and was once one of their biggest advocates. No more. They offer no customer service and are rude and belligerent.

I’ll manage for the rest of my stay. I may simply get up early and rent a scooter in the park if it comes down to that. I look forward to having nothing more to do with them.

Curbside checkin. Whoever is driving you to the airport can unload your luggage near Curbside check in.

A carservice driver will meet you at baggage claim and handle your luggage.

A porter(tipped) will take your luggage to Mears bus or taxi area. Wheelchair assistance should help you with your luggage but MCO is short staffed.

I always counted on that, too. No more. I’ve been looking around at other vendors… though according to the big boss, Gold is the biggliest, bestest and you’ll come back.
