BedBugs-be carefull!

UGGGHHH!! :scared1: GIVE A GIRL SOME WARNING BEFORE POSTING THAT!!!! Okay I am totally skeeved out!!! YUCKY!! I am totally afraid to go to POR now:( I know it is totally ridiculous but ewwwwww..:faint:

Note to self........ In the future, DO NOT look at the bed bug threads!! :scared1:  WOW!!

Nice visual though ConcKahuna! :scared: You have done your bed bug research :thumbsup2

Thanks for posting that. I'm completely sceeved and itchy now but I would rather know what to look for. Last fall when we went to Poly I just did a check and unpacked right into the dresser when everything looked. I don't want to have to worry about bedbugs on vacation :sad2: . OP can you tell us which building at POR has bedbugs? I'm sure people that are staying there would want to know, I would.

The thing you have to remember, bedbugs are not in any way, shape, or form a common occurance at Disney. Trust me, I'm a local and almost all of my friends are CMs, and when something happens CMs gossip worse than anyone :lmao:

Staying at POR starting Wednesday. This thread is freaking me out. I'm itchy all over. I am printing the checklist and it will be the first thing we do when we check into the room. Thanks for the heads-up! I think.

 You MUST mean dust mites, not bed bugs. I don't know anyone that has bedbugs at home. I have heard of the occasional hotel room getting them though. Foreign travelers have caused the resurgence.

Dust mites are everywhere though.

Yep. But just to put some of you more sqeemish types at ease - dust mites only eat dead skin. Approximately 50 to 70% of the dust in your home is your own dead skin cells that have flaked off. The average pillow contains many more dust mites than MK has visitors every day. The problem with mites is that the proteins in their excrement is reponsible for many allergens that cause or aggravate asthma and other conditions. Solution: Change and wash bed linens regularly and use a vacuum with a good filter(HEPA) to keep it too manageable levels. Don't go nuts though, cause you can't get most of it anyway. Keeping it down to a dull roar is the best you'll ever acheive.

We are all walking ecosystems - no matter how often we bathe. Mites, single cell animals, fungi, bacteria and viruses are just a few of the tiny living friends each one of us always has with them - by the millions and more. They're all just too small to see.

Que the music: It's a small world after all

okay i know bed bugs can happen anywhere, ive seen them at a hojo.. but really.. i just always when staying at disney think ah there's no way they can have them.. disney has nothing bad.. ahh now thats ruinied

Hi all you itchy folks...:)

I have OCD so trust me when I say that last year when I first read about bedbugs here before our Dec. trip to OKW I was so freaked out I almost could not go. But I learned how to check for them, and it's the first thing I do now in a hotel no matter where it is or how nice it is (just did it last Wed. night at Mandalay Bay in Vegas...found nothing btw...)

Just check your room before you unpack anything...leave your bags outside the door or on the tile bathroom floor while you do. If you find any of the signs, just call the front desk & get a new room (maybe even an upgrade for your trouble & the gross-out factor?) but check the new room too.

Living with OCD came close to making me lock myself in my house forever...it's a scary world, but if I can do it, so can all of you guys! I'm even off of my meds right now so I can try to have another baby, & still I'm doing OK in hotel rooms! Besides...bedbugs have been around for years and years, and most people have only started hearing about them and checking for them in recent years...think of how many times you've stayed in hotels & never checked & have been fine. Chances are good you'll be fine this time, too. Disney doesn't need/want any gross publicity, so they'll take care of things well.

Try to relax and enjoy your trips!! :thumbsup2

I too, have been checking for bedbugs for years now. I leave my luggage (and daughter) in the hallway while I go in and do the check. My dd thinks I'm a bit paranoid... :confused3

If I did find them, I'd want a new room FAR away from the current one, but I'd be ok.

Always check your beds, headboards, side tables and surrounding. Getting grossed out because you find bugs upon inspection is so much better than waking with them on you and some nasty bites to show for it!

And, you are so much more likely to find nothing at all so enjoy your trip!

LOL :rotfl:

What if the powder you saw was from someone spilling body powder
in the drawer? Did it smell like pesticide?
If it did, at least hopefully they are dead now. :confused3

I remember last junes thread and it was unbelievable!!!
 :scared:

now i am freaked out all over again.........
:surfweb:

Before widespread panic breaks out here.....in 15 trips to WDW, I have yet to find a bedbug. And yes, I look. I check around the headboard, I pull out the sheets/mattress pad. I check in the drawers. I do not put my luggage away on the floor. I leave the bags on the luggage rack.

But, last summer my dd went to summer camp. She called me on the third day, of a two week long period, to tell me that they had slept in a field that night because bedbugs had been found in their building, about 3 doors down from her room. The house was emptied of human inhabitants, the rooms emptied of all furniture. The bunk beds/mattresses were all burned in a huge bonfire. Then they got all new metal bunkbed frames and new mattresses. The girls who were in the room with the little buggers were placed elsewhere for the duration of camp. Evidently, the camp had had an issue earlier in the summer, had an exterminator come out but he didn't solve the whole issue. Looks like he had to go back. But, my dd came home with only what she left home with. Her duffle bags remained in the garage, her clothes went from the garage to the washer/dryer. We lucked out...no issues.

So...don't panic. Just double check your mattress and around the bed. It's pretty easy to see if there is an issue.

I was checked into room 3761 at POR on 4/22/07. Found white powder in night stand drawer and dead bugs on mattresses. I was moved to building 25 and it was clean. I don't care how much or how little your hotel costs. Always check for these things. Plenty of info on-line about how to check your room. I always check, for years now. This was the first time I ever found anything. Good Luck and be careful out there! Bugs do not care how much you paid. LOL!

Can you tell us what building room 3761 was in? I am going in June and want to make sure I don't ask for that building at the very least.

This has my skin crawling!!!! EWWWWW! And you'd think that if Disney wanted to "take care" of this type of thing...if the white powder was for treating the infestation they would quarantine the room and not let anyone book it until they were absolutely sure they were gone. So now I certainly have my doubts.

Note to self, pack flash light.

I am totally grossed out and itchy all over, but I'm glad I read this thread. Who woud have thought to check for bed bugs? I remember our last disney vacation. I was reading the dis boards and read all hotels dont changed the bedspread/comforter after each guess. I wouldn't even mention what I read about the remote controls. Now everytime I stay at a hotel the comforter gets taken off and I won't touch the remote control. Now I need to check for bed bugs :headache: . What next? :confused3

This thread really makes an RV and a campsite at Ft Wilderness look good!!!;)

I just hate the thought of taking the little critters home with me-- auggh.

Can you tell us what building room 3761 was in?

I am pretty certain the first 2 digits are the building number.

But you can have an incident in any room, any resort. I imagine that room/building is treated by now.

Housekeepers in hotels know what to look for.
