I was checked into room 3761 at POR on 4/22/07. Found white powder in night stand drawer and dead bugs on mattresses. I was moved to building 25 and it was clean. I don't care how much or how little your hotel costs. Always check for these things. Plenty of info on-line about how to check your room. I always check, for years now. This was the first time I ever found anything. Good Luck and be careful out there! Bugs do not care how much you paid. LOL!

Don't tell me this! I'm checking in POR for the first time on Saturday!

Could you share with us how to check? I hear this has become a problem everwhere. What is especially creepy is that they'll get into your travel bags and come home with you and infect your house. I hear they are next to impossible to get rid of.

White powder in nightstand... I'm confused by this -- do bed bugs have something to do with that?

  • Peel back the bedsheets and check the mattress, running your fingers along the upper and lower seams. Make sure to check the mattress tag, bed bugs often hide there.
  • Experts recommend removing and examining the headboard if possible. Check for tiny black spots (excrement) that are smaller than poppy seeds. You may also see translucent light brown skins or, in the case of an infestation— live bugs.
  • Check the bedside table. Look for signs of bed bugs in the drawers and along the wall on the side of the bed that is less likely to be disturbed by cleaning staff and guests.
  • You may want to elevate suitcases and keep them off the floor, like on a luggage stand.
  • If you see powder in the drawers or on the headboard, it is likely that the room has already been treated for bed bugs by an exterminator.
  • If bed bugs are detected, travelers should request for another room. Be sure to inform hotel management.
  • Just moving to a different room may not be the total answer. You should repeat the thorough inspection of any new or different room you are offered.
  • When you pack to leave, inspect your luggage carefully first, and inspect every item as you pack to help detect any bugs or their signs. Laundering most cloth items with typical hot water and detergent followed by drying on low heat for at least 20 minutes (or standard dry cleaning) should kill all bed bugs in or on such items. Sealing freshly-laundered items inside a plastic bag should help keep any more bed bugs from getting in those items later to hide (and be carried back with you).

There.. now we ALL know what to do.

A girl I work with had friends that returned from POP in March with some extra travelers.:scared1: Had to get her whole house exterminated. The exterminator did tell her next time to take a flash lite & lift the sheets & the mattress/boxspring to check for the little buggers. He also said to look in dresser drawers & all along the headboard. The white powder in the drawers is from someone trying to get rid of bedbugs that were already there. Have read a little more online & they say to not put luggage on the bed or floor ( which I always do of course) & to really check the bed for the bugs because they are visable or for rusty colored stains-left from the bugs. I mean we all can't go around totally paranoid, but I guess doing this quick little inspection could save alot of aggravation later. I myself will be checking into POR on Thurs. And yes, I will be bringing my little flashlite!!!! Good luck to all.

My daughter just read on Disney World Trivia that recently Dolphin had them too! ugh

Thanks for the info! I usually try not to look to closely when in a hotel room because I easily get creeped out if I find a dirty bandage or something like that under the bed, but now I have no choice but to inspect. Blechhhh!:scared1:

Getting ready for another bed bug thread. popcorn::

Seriously, it does happen and we do need to know what to look for.

Thanks for sharing.

We'll be staying at POR in July and will be carrying a flashlight. Thanks again for the info.:thumbsup2

i appreciate the info! :thumbsup2

we'll be staying in POFQ in a few weeks and i'll definitely be looking for them.

On our last trip to Disney World we stayed at the CSR, I examined the beds very carefully and I FOUND SOME BED BUGS! I looked real close at the "bed bugs" under a magnifying and to my surprise the bed bugs were all wearing MICKEY EARS!!!! :rotfl2: Disney surely is a Magical place.

Don't even joke about CSR and bed bugs.. I'm one month away from a stay there.. I can't be paranoid about this. :)
