What are the best type of bed sheets to buy? I know that the higher the thread count, the better. But what are the big differences in like percale, egyptian cotton...the list goes on. We really need some new ones, and I don't mind spending some $$, but the sky is not the limit. TIA!

I think it all depends on what your looking for. I would think the better the fabric the softer they would be.

I am a sheet snob, too!

I have a couple different sets of sheets, but my favorite are my 600 thread count egyptian cotton sheets. Expensive, but soooo comfy. You can actually get some high thread count, awesome sheets at Target for reasonable prices. I would look there.

Be careful how high up you go though, because if you go up too high on thread counts, you have to get them dry cleaned. I think thats just annoying. I don't mind having to get my comforter dry cleaned, but I wash my sheets alot more than my comforter too!!

I was addicted to jersey sheets for a while. Now I switch between my Egyptian cotton ones and my bamboo ones (yes, bamboo, found them at target). The bamboo ones are very soft, sort of satin-y, very nice!

But in the winter I always go back to the flannel.

Sheets are a sore spot with me. I have to change mine every other day or I just can't sleep. I've probably had more security and sales people following me and wondering what I was up to in stores...just opening corners of all their sheet packages and getting a feel! :rotfl: I'm very tough to please and over the years have learned high thread count does not necessarily mean softness. It often simply means great durability.

Eqyptian cotton is considered to be a good feeling and durable cotton. Can't stand it! Have had family members order very high thread count sheets online for me as gifts and learned they paid *astronomical* prices only to have me give it away to someone else or return them when possible. I've also walked into Target and felt their 400 thread count sheets and fallen in love.

In reading up on the different cottons used for sheets, I learned it's *how* the cotton is woven, not always the number of threads per square inch. And, some sheets are given a "finishing rinse" when manufactured and they feel fabulous in the package, only to come out of their first wash feeling like burlap! All I can suggest is feel for yourself and be the judge. Seldom are two people going to agree on this subject. :teeth:

Thanks for the replies. I'll start feeling sheets right away :thumbsup2 --we really need some new ones.
